Nancy Lofton
PRINCETON, Ind. — Nancy R. Lofton, 54, died Friday, March 17, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
She attended Francisco Gospel Ministry Church and was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Eagles Ladies Auxiliaries. She was also a life member of the Elks Lodge in Florida.
Surviving are her husband, Larry C.; a daughter, Stephanie Phelps of Patoka; a stepdaughter, Brianna Lofton of Princeton; a son, Larry B. of Owensville; two brothers, Greg Whitten of Princeton and Charles “Buck” Whitten of Evansville; and four grandchildren, Jeremy and Kelsey Phelps and Sarah and Larry Lofton Jr.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Colvin Funeral Home, with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery.

Sharon Bellamy
WINSLOW, Ind. — Sharon “Kay” Bellamy, 46, died Saturday, March 18, 2000, at her home of cancer.
She worked as a clerk at Wal-Mart.
Surviving are her husband, Floyd “Joe”; a daughter, Laurianna C. Williams of Winslow; a son, Joshua E. of Winslow; two sisters, Debbie Burnett of Winslow and Kim Whitman of Titusville, Fla.; a grandchild; and a stepgrandchild.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. EST Tuesday in Pleasant Ridge cemetery in Petersburg.

Edna Riker
WASHINGTON, Ind. — Edna Lois Riker, 71, died Friday, March 17, 2000, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Indiana 57.
She retired from Eastgate Manor Nursing Center and had worked as a nurses aid at Daviess Community Hospital and Roby’s Nursing Home.
She was a member of Burr Oak Church in Pike County.
She was a 1947 graduate of Otwell High School.
Surviving are two daughters, Cloria Jane Fields and Julie Marie Dant, both of Washington; a son, Bruce Alan of Washington; two sisters, Marceline Quackenbush of Pine Town, N.C., and Wanda Mae Potts of Bolivar, Mo.; a brother, Claude Way of Huntingburg; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Donald F., died in 1975.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. EST Monday at Gill Chapel, with burial in New Veale Creek cemetery.

Lula Newton
WASHINGTON, Ind. — Lula M. Newton, 95, died Saturday, March 18, 2000, at Washington Nursing Center.
She was a teacher at Campbell School in Crawford County.
She and her husband were involved in the development of Camp Illiana and developed the Dairylike family of the Sybil strain of Jersey cattle. She wrote pedigrees and sold bull calves in the United States and Central America.
She was a member of First Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School, and a 50-year member of the Eastern Star.
She was a graduate of Washington High School and Franklin College.
Surviving are a sister, Dorothy Kimble of Orleans; and David A. Clarke of Washington, who she raised.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Desco Harold, in 1978; a daughter, Louise Newton; and by a son, John Eugene.
Services will be at 10 a.m. EST Tuesday at Gill Chapel, with burial in Bethany cemetery.

Ida Graber
LOOGOOTEE, Ind. — Ida Graber, 88, died Friday, March 17, 2000, at the home of her daughter, Mary Ruth Graber, in Montgomery.
She was Old Order Amish.
Surviving are six daughters, Viola Knepp, Rosa Jean Raber and Mary Ruth Graber, all of Montgomery, Ida Mae Stoll of Odon, Clara Raber of Loogootee and Alma Helmuth of Plain City, Ohio; four sons, Noah of Montgomery, Harvey of Odon and Raymond and Nicholas Jr., both of Loogootee; three sisters, Lydia Graber and Viola Lengacher, both of Loogootee, and Rosie Graber of Odon; four brothers, Ben and Amos Graber, both of Montgomery, Joe Graber of Washington and John Graber of Odon; 69 grandchildren; 144 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas R., in 1995; and by two daughters, Sylvia Graber and Pauline Stoll.
Services will be at 9 a.m. EST Monday at the family residence in Loogootee, with burial in Wagler cemetery.

Gusta Splittorff
ELBERFELD, Ind. — Gusta M. Splittorff, 95, died Saturday, March 18, 2000, at Southwind Healthcare in Boonville.
She was a member of Fletcher Chapel United Methodist Church near Boonville and enjoyed gardening and sewing.
Surviving are a daughter, Ina Marie Cunditt of Marion, Ky.; a son, Adam of Elberfeld; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Adam Phillip, died in 1997.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Fletcher Chapel United Methodist Church near Boonville, with burial in McClary cemetery near Jockey.

Randall Simmons
WASHINGTON, Ind. — Randall Leroy Simmons, 84, died Saturday, March 18, 2000, at Washington Nursing Center.
He retired from Washington Community Schools after 23 years as a custodian.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, past master of Charity Lodge 30, where he served as secretary, former secretary of the Odd Fellows Lodge and a former trustee of Oak Grove cemetery.
Surviving are three daughters, Peggy Kern of Escondido, Calif., Shirley Buse of Lenoir City, Tenn., and Beverly Tomey of Wilmore, Ky.; a sister, Wanda Lowery of Carmel; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Evely (Lett), in 1993, and by a daughter, Judith Floyd.
Services will be at 7 p.m. EST Tuesday at Gill Chapel, with private burial in Plainville cemetery.
Masonic services will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ethel Blagrave
VINCENNES, Ind. — Ethel L. Blagrave, 79, died Saturday, March 18, 2000, at her home.
She worked as store manager of Spiegel’s in Washington.
She was a member of the Free Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, William E.; four daughters, Rebecca Lane of Bicknell, Penny Studley of Bloomington, Leslie Bourland of Evansville and Betty Sullivan of Winslow; two sons, Ted of Vincennes and Jeff of Lawrenceville, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. EST Tuesday at Goodwin Funeral Home, with entombment in Tower Mausoleum.

Earl Schmadel
Earl E. Schmadel, 84, of Evansville, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, at his home.
He worked as a teen-ager delivering ice for Schmadel Packing House. He also formerly owned Vanco Beverages, co-owned a silver mine in Idaho with his sister, Dr. Elnora Schmadel, and owned race horses.
He was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 1938 and, after World War II, worked as a deputy state attorney in Indianapolis. He was admitted in 1976 to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and wrote a book on the Indiana tax code.
He was a life member of St. John’s Church, where his family has attended since 1850. He was active in many clubs and organizations, including the Petroleum Club, Kennel Club, Scottish Rite, Hadi Shrine, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Western Hill Country Club, the Jockey Club of Las Vegas and the aquaflex programs at Deaconess Hospital.
He attended Indiana University, where he played varsity football. He also played professional football for one season in Indianapolis before World War II.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the 101st Airborne Division and receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Surviving are three daughters, Fredericka A. Schmadel of Osaka, Japan, and Jane L. Schmadel and Martha C. “Kay” Robertson, both of Evansville; a son, George L. of Evansville; and a grandson, Stuart “Steve” Ward.
His wife of 64 years, Martha Marie (Scherer), died in February.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Browning Funeral Home, the Rev. Brian Holtz officiating, with burial in Locust Hill cemetery, with military rites.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
