Dennis Loper
SANTA CLAUS, Ind. — Dennis F. Loper, 44, died Wednesday, march 1, 2000, in Santa Claus from a gunshot wound.
He was a self-employed carpenter.
Surviving are his wife, Jennifer (Libbert); two daughters, Melissa Ghulam of Evansville and Jayde Loper at home; a son, Noah Loper at home; a sister, Kathy Sarver of Evansville; a brother, Lawrence “Willie” of Chrisney; and a grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. CST Saturday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Santa Claus, with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Fuller Funeral Home and Crematory in Dale.
Augusta Simmons
BOONVILLE, Ind. — Augusta “Gustie” Simmons, 88, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at St. Mary’s Warrick.
She was a former matron of the County Home in Boonville.
She was a life member of the Bethabara General Baptist Church in Folsomville.
Surviving are a daughter, Loraine “Shorty” Aylsworth of Boonville; a son, Jerry of Boonville; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, Elwood, in 1982, and three sons, Eugene, Bill and Jack.
Services will be at 10 am. Saturday at Koehler Funeral Home Boonville Chapel, with burial in Bethabara cemetery near Folsomville.

Lovell Taylor Sr.
CANNELTON, IND. — Lovell Clark Taylor Sr., 97, died Wednesday, March, 1, 2000, at the Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, Fla.
He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 45 years as a rural carrier and had previously taught school in Kentucky for two years.
He was a member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ and Cannelton Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, Roberta (Doughty) Allen Taylor; a daughter, Dr. Ruth Ann Taylor-Georgiades of Houston; a stepdaughter, Linda Kay Jedlicka of Tampa; a son, Dr. Clark Taylor of Chattanooga, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Samantha Long and Emily, Katy, Carolyn and Andrew Taylor; a stepgranddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
His first wife, Marguerite (Rode), died in 1975.
Services will be at 11 a.m. EST Saturday at St. John’s United Church of Christ, with burial in Greenwood cemetery in Tell City.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Huber Funeral Home.

E. Russell Garner
VINCENNES, Ind. — E. Russell Garner, 66, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at his home. He was a hospice patient.
He had worked in various departments in the Indianapolis Power & Light Petersburg Generating Station.
He was a member of the Franklin Heights Christian Church, South Knox Men’s Club and Washington Boat Club.
Surviving are his wife, Jewell; two sons, Jeffrey of Henderson, Ky., and Dale of Monroe City; two sisters, Roberta Utt of Bruceville and Zella McClure of Vincennes; two brothers, Gilbert of Bruceville and Kenneth of Martinsville; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Goodwin Funeral Home, with burial in Oaktown cemetery.

Dr. William Scholl Jr.
Dr. William T. Scholl Jr, 74, of Indianapolis formerly of Evansville, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, in Indianapolis of a heart attack.
He was a dentist in Evansville until 1959 and retired from his dental practice in Colorado.
He was a flight instructor for Ranger Flight Club in Denver.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
He was a graduate of the Indiana University School of Dentistry.
Surviving are two daughters, Janet M. Castner of Indianapolis and Natalie K. Carrignan of New Haven, Conn.; three brothers, Dr. Thomas Scholl of Newburgh, Kenneth of St. Louis and Larry of Evansville; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
There will be memorial service held at the Boonville Airport hanger Saturday at 3 p.m.
Grinsteiner Funeral Home in Indianapolis handled the arrangements.
James Proctor
James R. Proctor, 90, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at his home. He had worked at the Vendome Hotel for 31 years and the Executive Inn for nine years. He was the owner of Jim Proctor’s Parking Lot for 20 years.
He had worked at Stanley’s Clothing Store and at Republic Aviation.
He was a former member of the Central Turners and the Eagles.
Surviving are a stepson, Chester Goodin of Evansville; four stepgrandchildren, Jim, Ron, Larry and Terry Goodin; and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.
His wife, Lee Vada, died in 1992 and a stepson, Estel Goodin, died in 1995.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Browning Funeral Home, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery.

Helen Meyer
Helen L. Meyer, 84, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Columbia Healthcare. She retired in 1990, after 31 years as a nursing assistant at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
She was a member of St. Benedict Cathedral, St. Benedict’s Travelers, St. Ann’s Altar Society and an Oblate of St. Benedict.
Surviving are three sisters, Adella Meyer with whom she lived in Evansville, Rosalind Gogel of Evansville and Kathryn J. Meyer of Dale, Ind.; a brother, Sylvan L. Meyer of Dale; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. CST Saturday at Mary Help of Christians Church in Mariah Hill, Ind., with burial in the church cemetery.

Elizabeth Barnett
Elizabeth A. Barnett, 92, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Regina Continuing Care. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
Surviving are three sons, Robert J. of Indianapolis, Thomas J. of Newburgh and Victor A. of Evansville; 11 grandchildren, Joey, Greg, Todd, Chris, Corey and John Barnett, Anastasia Knott, Monica Jones, Julie Nell, Jennifer Tullis and Dana Moore; seven great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Victor H., died in 1995.
Services will be at noon Friday at Ziemer Funeral Home North Chapel, continuing at 12:30 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, the Rev. Ronald Zgunda officiating, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery.

Noel Jeffreys
Noel Jeffreys, 74, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital of heart failure. He retired from the Nicholas Co. and had worked for Kroger.
He was a World War II Navy veteran.
Surviving are his wife of 15 years, Flora A. “Flo”; two daughters, Judy Shipp of Chandler, Ind., and Phyllis Jean Jeffreys of California; a son, Scott of Evansville, eight stepchildren; two sisters, Peggy Kingston of Florida, and Betty Rogers of Golden City, Mo.; a brother, Henry of Evansville; nine grandchildren; 23 stepgrandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, the Rev. Johnny Terry officiating, with burial in Locust Hill cemetery.

Frederick Hayes
Frederick J. Hayes, 73, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at home of respiratory failure. He retired in 1980, after 28 years with Whirlpool Corp.
He was a member of St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ and the Masonic Lodge 464.
He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1114, member of American Legion Post 265, past monarch of No Ruz Grotto and past commander of Swords of Bunker Hill.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Geraldine “Gerry”; two daughters, Michelle Witter of Wylie, Texas; and Jacqueline Richardson of Evansville; two sons, Brian and Tony, both of Wadesville; and six grandchildren, Lindsay, Brandon, Michael, Chris, Christina and Susan.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel, the Rev. Dan Schroeder officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.
