Mary Longwell
BIRDSEYE, Ind. — Mary Elizabeth Longwell, 90, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Core Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Huntingburg.
She retired from Dana Corp. in Hagerstown as a payroll clerk.
She was a member of Spiceland United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three sisters, Patricia Sanders of Birdseye, Anna E. Thomas of New Castle and Frances Phillips of North Aurora, Ill.
Her husband, John, died in 1983.
Services will be at 2 p.m. EST Monday at Spiceland United Methodist Church, with burial in Circle Grove cemetery in Spiceland.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg and from 1 p.m. to service time at the church.

Laura Getchell
BICKNELL, Ind. — Laura A. Getchell, 38, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Gibson General Hospital in Princeton. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
She attended Bicknell Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are her husband, Robert “Bob”; two daughters, Kandis R. Morwood of Mount Vernon and Jessica M. Jackson of Bicknell; a son, Kyle L. of Bicknell; her mother, Mary Frances Pharris of Bicknell; three sisters, Kathy Doane of Bicknell, Janie Hummert of St. Louis and Judy Pharris of Francisco; three brothers, Steve Pharris of Francisco, Randy Pharris of Edwardsport and Dennis Pharris of Medora; and a grandchild.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at McClure Funeral Home Bicknell Chapel, with burial in Bicknell Memorial cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Stanley Sims
MONTGOMERY, Ind. — Stanley G. Sims, 57, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at the San Diego Naval Shipyard in San Diego, Calif., of an apparent heart attack.
He was an electronics technician for Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center.
He was a member of Alfordsville Christian Church.
He was a Navy veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Janice Sue; three sons, Mark C. of Port Hueneme, Calif., William L. of Italy and Warren S. of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Ruby Rood of Spencer and Irene Rham of Covington; a brother, Billie D. of Covington; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Leslie Dawn Sims.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Titzer Funeral Home in Loogootee.
Blendena Bruce
Blendena Bruce, 94, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Holiday Health Care.
She was a nurse at Deaconess Hospital for 25 years.
She was a member and taught Sunday school at Albright United Methodist Church. She had held offices in the United Methodist Women and served as a conference delegate for eight years.
Surviving are three daughters, Marlene Goodman of Lowell, Ind., Karen Kerney of San Jose, Calif., and Catherine Stephens of Kokomo, Ind.; four sons, John, Max and Don Bruce, all of Evansville, and William of Indianapolis; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, John C. Sr., died in 1974.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel, the Rev. Jo A. Olson officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

John O. Williams
John O. Williams, 51, of Evansville, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of cancer.
He had worked with Counter Design for 10 years and had been a horse trainer in Florida for 17 years.
Surviving are his wife of eight years, Peggy; two stepsons, Chad and Jeremy Bosse, both of Evansville; three daughters, Sherry Barrows and Johnny Williams, both of Germany, and Robin Williams of Tampa, Fla.; five sisters, Susie Bryant, Mary Dawson, Molly Leggett and Darlene Merritt, all of Evansville, and Carolyn Morgan of Rockport; a brother, Jack of Tampa; and a grandchild, Jackie Williams.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, with entombment in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery.

Hayden Woodring
Hayden “Woody” Woodring, 74, of Evansville, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital of heart failure.
He retired in 1983 from Arkla Industries as a supervisor and had worked at Servel. He was an active member of Grace Baptist Church. He drove the bus at the Evergreen Senior Group.
He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, serving in the South Pacific and received a Purple Heart and Three Oak Leave Clusters. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1114 and the American Legion.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Bernice (Biggerstaff); a daughter, Ramona Woodring Fields of Evansville; two sons, Anthony “Tony” of St. Louis and Terry of Evansville; seven grandchildren, Ashley Fields Perkins, Aaron and Asha Fields, Brandon, Katherine, Joshua and Jennifer Woodring; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Browning Funeral Home, the Rev. Tom Savage officiating, with burial pending.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.

James Ricketts
James Jewell Ricketts, 79, formerly of Evansville, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at Ford Hospital in Detroit of heart failure.
He retired from the Ford Motor Co. in 1988. He was a World War II Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Betty; a daughter, Gornetta Meriwether of Evansville; a son, Larry Gene of Detroit; 10 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at noon Saturday at Jordan Baptist Church in Detroit. Cole Funeral Home in Detroit is handling arrangements.
John Tucker
John Tucker, 73, formerly of Evansville, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Ember Convalescent Home in Perris, Calif., of complications of a stroke.
He had worked at Whirlpool in Evansville and in Perris and had owned and operated a lawn- care service.
He was a World War II and Korean War Navy veteran and life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Hogue and Julia Thiel, both of Evansville; a sister, Ann Curl of Evansville; six grandchildren, Melissa and Chris Hogue, Heather Pruitt, Jenifer Fischer, Erika Haley and Eric Thiel; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Shelia, preceded him in death.
Evans Brown Funeral Home in Perris is handling arrangements, with burial in National cemetery in Perris, with military rites.
George Tarrant
George F. Tarrant, 71, of Evansville, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at St. Mary’s Health Care Services/Welborn Campus of respiratory failure.
He was a maintenance worker at Grandview Towers.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1114.
Surviving are two sisters, June Usery of Evansville and Eva Lee Hafford of Omaha, Ill.; and nieces and nephews.
Services and visitation will be private, with burial in Sunset cemetery in Harrisburg, Ill.

Paul Mitsdarffer
Paul James Mitsdarffer, 84, of Marion, Ill., father of Eva Allen of Newburgh, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at Marion Memorial Hospital.
He worked for the city of Marion as a meter patrolman, retiring in 1977.
He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in Normandy and Rhineland. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagles, Elks and American Legion Post Post 147.
Also surviving are a daughter, Paula Snoddy of Richmond Hill, Ga.; two brothers, Bill of Ridgeway, Ill., and Francis of Germany; seven grandchildren, Stephanie, Brook, Zackary and Nathan Snoddy, Christopher, Nicholas and Tara Allen. His wife of 51 years, Stella R. (Zasada), died in 1992.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church in Marion, the Rev. Richard Mohr officiating, with burial in Rose Hill cemetery, with military rites.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home in Marion.

Arthur Coultas Sr.
Arthur O. Coultas Sr., 87, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Westpark Rehabilitation Center.
He retired after more than 29 years with Bucyrus-Erie. During World War II, he worked at Republic Aviation.
He was a member of Forest Hills Wesleyan Church and served as a lay minister for several churches and nursing homes, where he played guitar and sang.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Pearl; three daughters, Joyce Byes Scales of Indianapolis, Doris Bowers of Renton, Wash., and Jean Brinker Sokeland of Oakland City, Ind.; three sons, Arthur Jr. of Elberfeld, Ind., Victor of Evansville and Stephen of Colflax, Ind.; two sisters, Rose Shadwick of Plainfield, Ind., and Mae Claise of Tell City, Ind.; a brother, Les of Evansville; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, the Rev. Stephen Coultas officiating, with entombment in Oak Hill Mausoleum.
