Daniel Thomas

CHANDLER, Ind. — Daniel J. Thomas, 33, died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Indiana 66 at Epworth Road.

He worked for Lin-Care in Evansville.

He attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church and enjoyed biking and sports cars. He was a 1985 graduate of Castle High School.

Surviving are his parents, Ron and Phyllis Thomas of Chandler; a sister, Jana Ashley of Evansville; and his grandparents, Gladys Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Chappell.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel in Evansville, continuing at 11:30 a.m. at Nativity Catholic Church in Evansville, the Rev. Henry Kuykendall officiating, with burial in St. John’s cemetery in Newburgh.

Friends may call 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a memorial service at 7 p.m., and from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Daughters of Charity.

Mabel Doades

WASHINGTON, Ind. — Mabel Laverne Doades, 85, died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Joyce Williams of Ramsey; a son, Ronald of Millburn, N.J.; a sister, Mary Cornelius Christy of Bloomfield; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel Earl, in 1980, and by a daughter, Gail Doades.

Services will be at 11 a.m. EST Friday at Otterbein United Methodist Church, with burial in Sugarland Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Gill Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. to service time at the church.

Gladys Hagerty

LOOGOOTEE, Ind. — Gladys M. Hagerty, 98, died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Martin County Health Care Center.

She was a member of St. John Catholic Church, the Senior Citizens Group, Legion of Mary Auxiliary and a former member of the Royal Neighbors.

Surviving are a son, Ralph of Washington; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence W., in 1992, and by a daughter, Rosita Lavely, in 1996.

Services will be at 10 a.m. EST Saturday at St. John Catholic Church, with burial in St. John cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m., at Titzer Funeral Home.

Marion Dysert

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. — Marion E. Dysert, 73, of Fithian, Ill., formerly of Oakland City, died Monday, March 27, 2000, at Provena USMC Logan Campus.

He served on the Vermilion County Board for 19 years and as chairman from 1972 to 1978. He was appointed county treasurer in 1987 and held office until 1990.

He was the youngest township supervisor in the county when he was elected in Oakwood Township in 1959 and served in that position until 1989. He also served as chairman of the Vermilion County Board of Review from 1972 to 1981.

He and his wife farmed 700 acres of land near Fithian before retiring in 1987. He also served as vice president of the Danville Area Community College Foundation Board and president of the Muncie Consolidated School Board. He was a founding member of the Legal Aide Assistance Board and served as Vermilion County Liquor Commissioner.

He was a graduate of Oakland City High School and a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater with the 1st Cavalry Division Tank Corps.

He was a member of Oakwood United Methodist Church, Catlin Masonic Lodge 610, Danville Scottish Rite, Oakwood American Legion Post 610, Danville Elks Lodge 332, Vermilion County Farm Bureau and the Vermilion County Museum Society.

Surviving are his wife, Luella Faye; two sons, Terry Gene and Alan Ray; and three grandchildren, Cody Dylan, Cooper Reese and Ethan McKenzie Dysert.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Oakwood United Methodist Church in Oakwood, Ill., with burial in Oakwood cemetery, with military rites.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a Masonic service at 7:45 p.m., at Johnson-Lakeside Funeral Home in Oakwood.

Memorial contributions may be made to Oakwood United Methodist Church.

Robert Diekhoff

Robert L. Diekhoff, 47, of Evansville, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center from complications of cancer.

He had been with the Evansville Police Department for 26 years and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Surviving are his wife, Donna; a daughter, Alexander Diekhoff of Evansville; a son, Joey of Evansville; a stepdaughter, Heather Bishop of Lexington, Ky.; a stepson, Daniel Wright of Providence, Ky.; his mother, Mary C. Diekhoff of Evansville; a sister, Kathy Diekhoff of Evansville; two brothers, Kelly and James, both of Evansville; and nephews.

Services will be at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, continuing at 9 a.m. at St. Benedict Cathedral, the Rev. Harold Hammerstein officiating, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, with a memorial service at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the American Cancer Society.

James Drew

James Drew, 76, of Evansville, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital of heart failure.

He was a farmer for many years and retired from Sterling Brewery in 1983, after 36 years.

He was a World War II Army veteran, serving under General Patton in the 35th Infantry Division, was wounded in Martina, France, and was the recipient of two Bronze Stars.

He was a member of Bethany Christian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1114, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans 7 and Sterling Retirees.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Margaret Laveda (Randall); a daughter, Shella Owens of Evansville; a son, Randall of Clarendon Hill, Ill.; five grandchildren, Brian, Cindy and Beth Drew and Dustin and Derek Owens; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethany Christian Church, the Rev. Will Jewsbury officiating, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery, with military rites.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel and from 10 a.m. to service time at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Etta Thomas

Etta Jane Thomas, 56, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital from kidney disease.

She was a nursing assistant with St. Mary’s Health Care Services/Welborn Campus and Medco North.

She was a member of the First Church of God.

Surviving are her husband of 40 years, Prentice “Red”; a daughter, Sheiliea Thomas of Owensville, Ind.; a son, Ricky Lee of Evansville; a brother, Randy of Henderson, Ky.; and five grandchildren, Prentiss Lee, Michael David, Keith Alan and Brandon Wayne and Daykota Campbell; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Simpson Meyer Funeral Home, the Rev. Greg Christmas officiating, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Kidney Foundation.

Hallie Wingo

Hallie F. Wingo, 80, of Mayfield, Ky., father of the Rev. George “Pete” Wingo of Evansville, died Saturday, April 15, 2000.

He retired after 25 years with the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion, Ind.

He was a Christian and a World War II Army veteran.

Also surviving are his wife, Sally; two daughters, Mary Gregory of Henderson, Ky., and Linda Dorsey of Marion; a son, Randy Lee of Mayfield; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mason Memorial Chapel in Mayfield, the Rev. Anthony Reeves officiating, with burial in Shelton Chapel cemetery in Hickory, Ky.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dr. Anne Hopwood

Dr. Anne H. Hopwood, 85, of Evansville, formerly of Owensboro, Ky., died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at Good Samaritan Home in Evansville.

She began her career in medicine as a physician for nursing students at the University of Illinois School of Medicine in Chicago. From 1945 to 1953 she was a medical practice and public health officer at the request of Manpower Commission Procurement & Security Division in Gava, Ill. She practiced internal medicine and was on the staff of the Owensboro-Daviess County and Our Lady of Mercy hospitals, served as a medical consultant for the Owensboro-Daviess County Health Department, was a physician at Colley Allergy Clinic and became the medical director of Wendell Foster Center in Owensboro in 1981.

She had been president of the Henry County Medical Association, was a certified advanced cardiac life support provider and was made Woman of the Year by the Owensboro Business & Professional Woman’s Organization in 1983.

She received her bachelor’s degree in 1936 from George Washington University and her medical degree from the University of Indiana. She did her internship at St. Joseph’s Infirmary in Atlanta and her residency in internal medicine at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chicago.

She was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church in Owensboro.

Surviving are a daughter, Tatianna Sledd of Evansville; a son, Theodore II of Lexington, Ky.; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild and a niece and nephews.

Services were held Saturday at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, with burial in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro.

Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church building fund.

Alton Hill

Alton Davis Hill, 66, of Kokomo, Ind., formerly of Evansville, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at Howard Community Hospital in Kokomo of cancer.

He retired from American Standard Pottery in 1981.

Surviving are a daughter, Vicki Collins of Kokomo; four sons, Warren and Charles, both of Kokomo, Ralph E. of Texas and John A. of Petersburg, Ind.; four stepchildren, all of Tazewell, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ellers Mortuary in Kokomo, the Rev. Steve Pearce officiating, with burial in Memorial Park cemetery in Kokomo.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m today at the funeral home.
