He was a World War II Army veteran, trustee of Suttons Bay Congregational Church and treasurer of Leelanau Christian Neighbors. His wife, Mary, died in 1995. Surviving are two sons, John H. K. V of Montgomery, Ala., and James R. of Milwaukee; a daughter, Jennifer S. Koerner of Stephenville, Texas; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Colegate O.
