MILDRED I. HAKES, 93, died Monday at Woodcrest Nursing Center, Decatur. Born in Adams County, she worked at General Electric in Decatur and retired as housekeeper at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church after 16 years. She was also a homemaker. Her husband, Willis N., died in 1977. Surviving are a son, Vincent T. Huth of Ohio City, Ohio; two stepsons, Ivan V. Hakes of Decatur and Richard O. Hakes of New Castle; a brother, Waldo "Jim" Brown of Bristol; a grandchild; a great-grandchild; 15 step-grandchildren; and 19 step-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by three stepsons, Paul Hakes, C.W. Hakes and Donald Hakes, and a stepdaughter, Betty Goodridge.

Born in Lincoln, Ill., she was a former executive secretary of Wells County Tuberculosis Association and had served on the Wells County Library Association. She had also been a part of the operation of the former Elzey & Son Funeral Homes. Her husband, Abner W., died in 1984.
