Born in Grabill, he retired in 1987 as president of Trinity Wholesale Distributors, New Haven, and in 2001 as chairman of the company's board. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. He was Allen County coroner from 1968 to 1972 and had worked at Lutheran Hospital emergency room from 1980 to 1986, at Caylor Nickel, Georgetown from 1986 to 1989 and at the Occupational Health Clinic from 1989 to 1990. He had also worked at Lincoln National Bank and co-founded B.M.A. Associate Physicians. Surviving are his wife, Sharon Philips Bower; five stepdaughters, Christine Bowers and Lynn Lee, both of Fort Wayne, Michele Krakowski of Danville, Jill Myers of Sarasota, Fla., and Leslie Philips of Windfall; a brother, William of Atlanta; three sisters, Mary Wills, Margery Thompson and Jeanne Cardone, all of Fort Wayne; and five grandchildren.
