Grace Elizabeth Taylor, 97, of Terre Haute died Sunday afternoon, Dec. 19, 2004, in her residence. She was a homemaker and previously worked in school cafeterias for the Vigo County School Corp. Her husband, Robert J. Taylor, died in 1957. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Russell Archer of Basking Ridge, N.J.; nine grandchildren, Mike Jacob, Joe Jacob, Tom Jacob and Randy Stute, all of Terre Haute, Dave Jacob of Brazil, Pete Jacob of Van Buren, Ohio, John Archer of Hoboken, N.J., Susan Lattmann of Basking Ridge and Steve Archer of Vero Beach, Fla.; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sons-in-law, Lee Jacob and Jack Stute; and many nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Joan Jacob and Jane Stute; five brothers; four sisters; and two grandchildren, Beth Stute Julbert and Charlie Jacob. She formerly attended Seelyville United Methodist Church. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with the Rev. Richard Thomas officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Joe Jacob, Tom Jacob, Dave Jacob, Pete Jacob, John Archer and Steve Archer. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Jacob and Randy Stute. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, in the funeral home. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley, 600 S. First St., Terre Haute, IN 47807.

Ruth Jane Fordice

DUGGER - Ruth Jane Fordice, 85, of Decatur, formerly of Bucktown and Linton died at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, in Harborside Health Care in Decatur. She retired from RCA in Bloomington. She was born Jan. 11, 1919, in Greene County to George Payne and Sarah Peacock Payne. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Fordice, in 1989. Survivors include one daughter, Jean Keller of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by four brothers, Alfred, Wilber, Hobart and Paul Payne; and four sisters, Anna Rine, Bertha Bennett, Rose Prichett and Beulah Watkins. She attended White Rose Church and the Church of God in Linton. Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Newkirk's Funeral Home in Dugger, with the Rev. Larry Goodman officiating. Burial is in Dugger cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Pauline Margaret Julbert

BRAZIL - Pauline Margaret Julbert, 82, of Brazil died at 9:10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, in Royal Oaks Rehabilitation Center in Terre Haute. She was a homemaker. She was born May 20, 1922, in Diamond to George Mager and Alice Soltis Mager. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Julbert, whom she married July 11, 1942. Survivors include two sons, Jack R. Julbert and his wife Michele of Avon, and Donald Julbert and his wife Sally of Terre Haute; eight grandchildren, Dwight and Kristin Julbert of Trussville, Ala., Danielle and Tammy Coan-Julbert, of Indianapolis, Mindy and Brad Greenwell, and Donald "Buster" Julbert Jr, all of Terre Haute, Dodie Byrd of Florida, Gary Julbert, Glenn Julbert and Gregg Julbert, all of Indianapolis; a host of great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents. She enjoyed the outdoors and her family. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday in Moore Funeral Home, with Vanita Moore officiating. Burial is in Clearview cemetery. Visitation is 9 a.m. until services Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clay County Humane Society, 8280 N. CR 125, Brazil, IN 47834.

Mariea Meyer

BRAZIL - Mariea Meyer, 69, of Brazil died unexpectedly at 7:24 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, in Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born Nov. 2, 1935, in Terre Haute to Elmer and Doras Simrell. She married Charles Meyer, on May 6, 1961, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 2004. Survivors include her children, Diana and Don Bradshaw, Belinda Loveall, Hope and John Chubb, Sherry Britton, Pam Bowman and Robert Higgs; nine grandchildren, Haley Bradshaw, Jonathan Bradshaw, Breeanna Loveall, Carter Chubb, Spencer Chubb, Garrett Chubb, Erica Spears, Michelle Hughbanks and Josh Bowman; and five great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her father; and her mother, Doras Simrell Miller. She graduated from Gerstmeyer High School in Terre Haute. She enjoyed playing bingo, collecting baskets, and most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted mom and granny. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in French Funeral Home, with the Rev. William Price officiating. Burial is in Pell cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and before services Wednesday. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Light House Mission. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Wayne Howard Mitchel

ROCKVILLE - Wayne Howard Mitchel, 77, of Rockville and formerly of Center Point, died Dec. 25, 2004, in Lee Alan Bryant Healthcare Facility. He worked for the Ford dealership in Brazil. He was born Nov. 12, 1927, in California to Howard J. Mitchel and Thelma Deardorff Mitchel. Survivors include two brothers, John Mitchel of Brazil and Carl Mitchel of Kokomo; one sister, Delores Burnsworth of Kokomo; several nieces and nephews; and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Ray Mitchel and Kenneth Mitchel. He was raised in Indiana and graduated from Ashboro High School in 1947. When he was younger he worked at Dietz Poultry Farm and also liked to help neighbors with odd jobs. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday in Schoppenhorst Funeral Home in Clay City, with the Rev. Ray Deeter officiating. Cremation will take place following the services, with burial of the ashes at a later date.

Margaret M. Rine

JASONVILLE - Margaret M. Rine, 100, of Jasonville died at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, in her residence. She was born July 6, 1904, in Sullivan County to Alfred N. McGrew and Effie Trimble McGrew. Her husband, Earl "Doc" Rine, died Nov. 28, 1988. Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis Ridinger of Jasonville; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Joan Rine; two sisters and two brothers. She was a member of Lawton Street Christian Church. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in McClanahan-Lee Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Messmer officiating. Burial is in Stevens cemetery at Lewis. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Wednesday.

Paula Grayless

Paula Grayless, 48, of Terre Haute died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born Sept. 26, 1956, in Terre Haute. She graduated from Terre Haute North Vigo High School. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Grayless; her four granddaughters, Emily Sutton, Makenna Sutton, Ryann Crowell and Rylee Grayless; her grandson, Richard Sutton Jr.; her mother, Sharon Tyler; her father, Harold Grayless; her stepfather, Gary Nelson; her three sisters, Linda Wilcox, Wanda Alvarez and Sharon Mitchell, her stepbrother, Harold; her stepsister, Brenda; her six special cousins, Christina Vernon, Donnie, Mike, Eddie, Danny and Pat; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Melinda Grayless; her husband, Dean Jones; her grandfather, Orville Ferrand; and her grandmother Wanda Ferrand. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday in Thomas Funeral Home, with Eddie Arend officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will take place at Mount Pleasant cemetery.

Paul H. Schoffstall Sr.

Paul H. Schoffstall Sr., 82, of Terre Haute died at 10:25 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, in his residence. He was a retired firefighter from the Terre Haute Fire Department. He was born Nov. 4, 1922, in Terre Haute to Phillip H. Schoffstall and Myrtle I. DeHart Schoffstall. His wife, Loray Jones Schoffstall, died April 9, 2002. Survivors include one son, Larry A. Schoffstall of Terre Haute; one daughter, Joan D. Kehoe of Terre Haute; one brother, George Schoffstall of Terre Haute; one sister, Lucille Laughter of Terre Haute; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents. He served as Harrison Township trustee for 12 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and also served in the Marine Corps. He was a member of Union Christian Church, Terre Haute Masonic Lodge 19 Free & Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Fort Harrison Post 40 American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972, and Voiture 40&8. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in Callahan Funeral Home at 2425 Wabash Ave., with the Rev. Mark Grayless officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park, with graveside military rites by VFW Post 972. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Mary Louise Smith

Mary Louise Smith, 83, of West Terre Haute died at 2:37 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She retired from the Vigo County School Corp. in 1984 after 12 years of service, during which time she had worked in the Honey Creek Middle School Cafeteria. She was born Dec. 7, 1921, in Terre Haute to Leroy Wake and Flora Morris Wake. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, William S. Smith, whom she married Feb. 7, 1942, in St. Matthews Cathedral in Washington, D.C.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Anne and Jim Berg of Dallas, Ga., and Patricia L. and Peter Theil of Moyock, N.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law, William L. and Geri Smith of West Terre Haute and Lawrence C. and Jean Smith of Crawfordsville; four sisters, Genevieve Mattox of Zionsville, Betty Boling of Venice, Fla., Erma Thomas of Terre Haute, and Judy Wyrick and her husband, Robert, of West Terre Haute; two brothers-in-law, Ray Smith of West Terre Haute, and Jerry Sims and his wife, Pat, of Lenora, N.C.; one sister-in-law, Rosemary Bauermeister of Yucca Valley, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Judy Serafin, Mary Jane Will, Cindy Burke, Greg Smith, Christopher Smith, Terri Joy, Benjamin Smith and Samantha Merryman; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was a member of St. Mary-of-the-Woods Village Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Altar Society and the Mission Circle. She also had been very active in the former St. Mary-of-the-Woods Village School. She enjoyed her family, cooking and keeping busy hauling her children and grandchildren and their friends to various sports events and other activities. She and her husband also were members of the Swinging Mates Square Dancing Club. Mass of Christian Burial is 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. Mary-of-the-Woods Village Catholic Church, with the Rev. Bernard Head officiating. Burial is in St. Mary's cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home, with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m. The family suggests that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home.

Agnes Adams Blake

ROCKVILLE - Agnes Adams Blake, 85, of Rockville, died at 8:59 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, in St. Vincent's Clay Hospital in Brazil. She was a homemaker. She was born Dec. 1, 1919, in Pulaski County, Ky., to Lundy Hackney and Polly Polley Hackney. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lloyd Adams on May 23, 1939; and her second husband, George Blake, on Sept. 14, 1991. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Ed Gallatin of Brazil; two sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Elaine Adams of Maple Grove, Minn., and Wayne and June Adams of Kingman; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Hackney of Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Haun Hackney, Estal Hackney, Jim Hackney and Sidney Hackney; and seven sisters, Gladys, Grace, Hazel, Artie, Beatrice, Bernice and Glennis. She was a member of American Legion Post 48 Auxiliary in Rockville. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday in Butler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Perry officiating. Burial is in Memory Garden cemetery. Visitation is one hour before services Tuesday.

Edward D. Braun

ROSEDALE - Edward D. Braun, 73, of Rosedale died early Friday morning, Dec. 24, 2004, in Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was in the automotive field his whole life. He had owned two service stations in Terre Haute, and also had worked for several automobile dealerships as service adviser. He was born Nov. 17, 1931, in Terre Haute to Ernest D. Braun and Grace May Braun. He married Betty Degler and she survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Donna and Susan; a son, Dennis; a brother, Bob Braun and his wife, Helen, of Brazil; five sisters, Virginia Galbraith, Mary Schutte and her husband Bob, all of Terre Haute, Delores Swenson and her husband Floyd of Las Vegas, Shirley McAnnally and husband Harry of Shelburn, and Sharon Lynch of Indianapolis; a sister-in-law, Patsy Braun of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill Braun and Ernest Braun Jr.; and a sister, Juanita Braun. He served four years in the Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion, William Penn Lodge 727 Free & Accepted Masons, and Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute. Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Roselawn Funeral Home in Terre Haute, with the Rev. Larry Spear officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

Curtis Richard Jones

CLAY CITY - Curtis Richard "Dick" Jones, 80, of Clay City died at 5:35 a.m. Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at Crawfordsville-Williamsburg Health Care in Crawfordsville. He was employed at Arketex for 27 years, prior to working for Growers Co-op in Clay City, the Worthington IGA and Wal-Mart. He was the son of Paul Jones and Blanche Perry Jones. Survivors include his wife, Helen Rine Jones; a daughter, Rhonda Backfish Carroll and her husband Phil of Crawfordsville; eight siblings, Marge Chapman, Glendora Rhoderick, Lorene Pearson, Corene Akers, Anna May Robinson, Gloria Fern Duncan, Bud Jones and John Jones; four grandchildren, Christopher Backfish and his wife Stephanie, Michael Backfish, Matthew Backfish, and Aaron Backfish and his wife Hannah; and three great-grandchildren, Gretchen, Christopher and Alexander Backfish. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ron Jones; and three siblings, Freda McDaniels, Virginia Fry and Flo Phipps. He served his country in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Free Methodist Church. Services are 1 p.m. Monday in Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ted Malone officiating. Burial is in Peavey cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley.

Georgeanna Callahan

Georgeanna Callahan, 81, of St. Mary-of-the-Woods Village died at 1 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born June 21, 1923, in St. Mary-of- the-Woods Village to Clarence Chrisman and Jenny Corzetto Chrisman. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Paul J. Callahan, whom she married June 20, 1942, in St. Mary-of-the-Woods Village Catholic Church; a daughter and son-in-law, Roseann and Jesse Richey of West Terre Haute; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Ginny Callahan of Greencastle; a sister, Rosemary Chrisman of St. Mary-of-the-Woods; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Dorothy Chrisman of Fishers; and four grandchildren, Heather Gilbert and her husband Chris, Amanda Callahan, Jamison Richey, and Allison Pope and her husband Joel; two great-grandchildren, Christopher Gilbert and Shelby Gilbert; and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. Mary-of-the-Woods Village Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church with the Rev. Bernard Head officiating. Burial is in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a rosary service at 7 led by Sister Peggy Lynch. Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Jonathan M. Cobble

Jonathan M. Cobble, 24, of New Goshen died at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was employed by Simenton Windows of Paris, Ill. He was born Sept. 16, 1980, in Terre Haute to Larry Cobble and Phyllis Carlson Cobble. Survivors include his parents of New Goshen; two brothers, Larry L. Cobble II of Clinton and David L. Cobble of New Goshen; maternal grandmother, Norma Carlson of Clinton; aunts and uncles, Ron Carlson, Gary Carlson, Dallas and Joyce Godbey, and one special aunt, Marlene Carlson of Clinton; nephews, Jordan Cobble and Jacob Cobble; nieces, Catie Cobble, Abbey Cobble, Chelsea Richmond and Nicole Andrew. Services are 11 a.m. Monday in Frist Funeral Home in Clinton, with the Rev. Doug Davis officiating. Burial is in Rose Hill cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
