Makayla Lynn Grayless
Makayla Lynn Grayless, infant daughter of Amy Lynn Holstine Grayless and Christopher M. Grayless of Terre Haute died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, in her residence. She was born Sept. 2, 2003, in Terre Haute. Survivors include her parents; paternal grandparents. Mike and Madeline Grayless; maternal grandparents, Gary and Darlene Holstine; aunt, Jessica Grayless; uncle, Shane Holstine; paternal great-grandparents, Dollie Craft Grayless and Janice Haskett, both of Terre Haute; and Ronald Morlan of Brazil; maternal great-grandparents, Edward and Mary Holstine and Lawrence and Betty Benefiel; and maternal great-great-grandmother, Alice Miller of Terre Haute. In her brief life, she touched many and brought great joy to all. She will be greatly missed. Services are 10 a.m. Friday in Mattox-Wood Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Fagg officiating. Burial is in Bethesda cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Makayla Lynn Grayless Benefit Fund, in care of Terre Haute First.
Katherine L. Miller
Katherine L. Miller, 88, of Terre Haute died at noon Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, in Royal Oaks Health Care Center. She was a retired sales clerk. She was born Sept. 19, 1916, in Terre Haute to Fred S. Myers and Thena McKee Myers. Her husband, Ralph Miller, died earlier. Survivors include three sons, Stephen Miller of Terre Haute, Ralph Miller Jr., of Altamont, Ill., and Gary Miller of LeHigh Acres, Fla.; two daughters, Betty Mattick of Rosedale and Helen Monroe of Terre Haute; one brother, Fred Myers Jr., of Terre Haute; two sisters, Helen Jackson of Terre Haute and Mary Jane Stephens of Clinton; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Norma Thorpe and Lillian Art; and two brothers, Charles Myers and Bill Myers. She was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church, attended North Terre Haute Christian Church and Happy Homemakers Club and formerly was a member of the Rebekah Lodge. Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with the Rev. Gene Jeffers officiating. Burial is in Oak Hill cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Forest Park Baptist Church.
Anna Russell
Anna Russell, 87, of Terre Haute died at 11:45 a.m. Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, in her niece's residence. She was born Sept. 1, 1917, in Watts, Calif., to Isaiah Lewis and Ruanna Thompson Lewis. Her husband of 45 years, Robert H. Russell, died Sept. 26, 1990. Survivors include nephews, Lewis Travioli and his wife, Charlotte; Raymond Travioli and his wife, Judy; a special nephew and his wife, Joe and Rose Travioli; two nieces, Katherine Clough and Norma Baugh; a special niece and her husband, June and John Harvey; several other nieces and nephews; and one sister, Irma Travioli. She was preceded in death by nine brothers, William, Vern, Chancey, Jesse, Frank, Johnny, Dennis, Roy and Fred Lewis. She was a member of American Legion Post 346 Auxiliary. Services are 1 p.m. today in Callahan Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Mathias officiating. Entombment is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services in the funeral home. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Light House Mission or to the Gideons.
Mildred P. Seemann
Mildred P. Seemann 96, of Westridge Nursing Center, died at 10:25 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, in her residence. She was retired from food service at Indiana State University. She was born July 13, 1908, in Vigo County to Oscar Hancock and Edith Woodsmall Hancock. Her husband, Kenneth Seemann, died in 1992. Survivors include one daughter and her husband, Modena and Bill Fry of Terre Haute; one son and his wife, Theron and Helen Seemann of Jasper and Fort Myers, Fla.; five grandchildren, Brenda Caudill and her husband Bill, Ronda Hennis and her husband Randy, LeaAnn Seemann, Jill Boyer, and Jason Seemann and his wife Heather; five great-grandchildren, Kristina Ladika, Paige Hennis, Aaron Fry, Bryce Seemann and Bailey Seemann; one niece, Barbara Seemann; and two nephews, Tom Hancock and wife Joyce, and Charles French. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and brother and sister, Ivan Hancock and Chloe Behem. She was a member of Oregon Baptist Church, member and past worthy matron and former longtime secretary of Pimento Order of Eastern Star 516. Services are 10 a.m. Thursday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Rev. Fred Harrison officiating. Burial is in Hull cemetery. Donald E. Skinner
Donald E. Skinner, 61, of Terre Haute died at 2:05 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was a resident of Wyndmoor at the Crossing. He was born Aug. 28, 1943, in Terre Haute to Donald W. and Katherine L. Duby Skinner. Survivors include his parents; one brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Mary Lou Skinner of Terre Haute; two sisters, Kathy Skinner of Terre Haute, and Tammy Thompson and husband Irving of Graysville; one sister-in-law, Jean Skinner of Terre Haute; nieces, Jennifer Skinner, June Herrin, Jody Dean, Shanna Skinner, Kerri Skinner, and Megan Skinner; nephews, Clint Skinner, Ryan Thompson, Tyler Thompson; one great-nephew, Nolan Skinner; and great-nieces, Brianna Sappingfield and Carmen Dean. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jim "Butch" Skinner, in 2002. He graduated from Gerstmeyer High School in 1962 and entered the Navy in the fall after graduation. He did his basic training in Camp Pendleton in California and later served in Memphis, Tenn., and the Naval Air Station in Whidbey Island in Washington, where he became disabled in 1965, His greatest joys in life consisted of fishing and spending time with family and friends. He never met a stranger he didn't like nor had a meal that wasn't the best he'd ever had. He will be missed by many. Services are 11 a. m. Thursday in Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, with Charles Thompson officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park, with graveside military rites. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Pauline Margaret Julbert
BRAZIL - Pauline Margaret Julbert, 82, of Brazil died at 9:10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, in Royal Oaks Rehabilitation Center in Terre Haute. She was a homemaker. She was born May 20, 1922, in Diamond to George Mager and Alice Soltis Mager. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Julbert, whom she married
July 11, 1942. Survivors include two sons, Jack R. Julbert and his wife, Michele of Avon, and Donald Julbert and his wife, Sally of Terre Haute; eight grandchildren, Dwight and Kristin Julbert of Trussville, Ala., Danielle and Tammy Coan-Julbert, of Indianapolis, Mindy and Brad Greenwell, and Donald "Buster" Julbert Jr, all of Terre Haute, Dodie Byrd of Florida, Gary Julbert, Glenn Julbert and Gregg Julbert, all of Indianapolis; a host of great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Gerald Alexander Julbert. She enjoyed the outdoors and her family. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday in Moore Funeral Home, with Vanita Moore officiating. Burial is in Clearview cemetery. Visitation is 9 a.m. until services Tuesday. Delmas Booker
SULLIVAN - Delmas Booker, 90, of Sullivan died at 3:27 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, in Sullivan County Community Hospital. He was a retired plumber. He was born Aug. 20, 1914, in Dugger to John Thomas Booker and Clara Maude Robertson Booker. His first wife, Vivian Rusk Booker, died earlier. Survivors include his wife, Mertie Adamson Montgomery Booker; two daughters, Donna Michel of Gig Harbor, Washington, and Beverly Brodie of Plainfield; one stepson, Thomas Montgomery of Terre Haute; one stepdaughter, Mona Miller of Indianapolis; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was a member of North State Street Church of Christ. Services are 10 a.m. Thursday in Banks & Brust Funeral Home, with Allan Griggs officiating. Burial is in Woodward cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Gary A. Beil
Gary A. Beil, 49, of Newburgh died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was a senior staff engineer for ALCOA's Warrick operations in Newburgh for 26 years. Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Karen Rodgers; daughters, Ashley and Lindsey; his parents, James and Eileen Beil of St. John; two brothers, Richard and his wife, Angie of Frankfort, Ill., David and his wife, Tammy of Carbon; one sister, Linda Jordan of Dyer; brother-in-law, Andrew and his wife, Cindy Rodgers of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; sister-in-law, Debra and her husband, Dean Cress of Knightsville; 11 nieces and nephews, Derek and Angee Cress, Devin and his fiance, Melissa Cress, Anne, Laura, Carolyn, Cheryl Jordan, Molly, Kalyn and Travis; and one great-niece, Jordin Cress. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Harold and Delores Rodgers of Knightsville. He was an active member of the Newburgh United Methodist Church, a graduate of Lake Central High School in St. John and earned a bachelor of science degree in electircal engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 1978. Services were Monday in Newburgh United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mark L. Disken officiating. Alexander Newburgh Chapel in Newburgh assisted with arrangements.
Arthur H. Bedwell
Arthur H. "Tukie" Bedwell, 79, of Terre Haute died at 6:24 p.m.. Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, in his residence. He was a retired electrician from Alcan. He was born Dec. 13, 1925, in Dugger to Elmer and Aline Bedwell. His wife of 25 years, Irene Elizabeth Remler, preceded him in death. Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Hos and her husband Larry, Brenda McGaughy and Sharon Gross; grandchildren, Jason C. Hos of Bolingbrook, Ill., Jami L. Hos, Kimberly I. McGaughey/Dicks, Jessica Bedwell, Danielle Bedwell, Travis Bedwell, Cori Hammerbocker, Chris Nidifer and Melissa Nieft, all of Terre Haute; several great-grandchildren; a brother, James Lee Bedwell of Terre Haute; and a half brother, Jerry Healey, of Terre Haute. He also was preceded in death by a son, David Arthur Bedwell; and a special friend, Helen Davidson. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. He was an avid fisherman and motorcycle enthusiast. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in Roselawn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Richmond officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Wednesday. Edward E. Braun
Edward E. Braun, 73, of Rosedale died early Friday morning, Dec. 24, 2004, in Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was in the automotive field his whole life. He had owned two service stations in Terre Haute, and also had worked for several automobile dealerships as service adviser. He was born Nov. 17, 1931, in Terre Haute to Ernest O. Braun and Grace May Braun. He married
Betty Degler and she survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Donna and Susan; a son, Dennis; a brother, Bob Braun and his wife, Helen, of Brazil; five sisters, Virginia Galbraith, Mary Schutte and her husband Bob, all of Terre Haute, Delores Swenson and her husband Floyd of Las Vegas, Shirley McAnnally and husband Harry of Shelburn, and Sharon Lynch of Indianapolis; a sister-in-law, Patsy Braun of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill Braun and Ernest Braun Jr.; and a sister, Juanita Braun. He served four years in the Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion, William Penn Lodge 727 Free & Accepted Masons, and Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute. Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Roselawn Funeral Home in Terre Haute, with the Rev. Larry Spear officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today. Frederick D. Edwards Sr.
Frederick D. "Fred" Edwards Sr., 72, of West Terre Haute died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, in his residence. He was a service technician for IBM, retiring in 1987. He was born Jan. 22, 1932, in the family home in Tecumseh, to Logan G. Edwards and Hazel R. Evans Edwards. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Theresa Edwards, on April 16, 2001. Survivors include his mother; two sons Frederick D. Edwards Jr. and Chris L. Edwards and his wife Pam A. Edwards, all of Terre Haute; one daughter, Theresa M. Kile of Brownsburg; two sisters, Cheryl Webster and her husband Mike of New Goshen, and Janice Wheat and her husband Tom of Shepardsville; two brothers, Gene Edwards and his wife Lou of Marshall, Ill., and Bob Edwards and his wife Helen of rural Illinois; grandchildren, Samantha J. Edwards, Danielle N. Kile, Emily C. Edwards, Chels/ M. Kile, Zachary L. Edwards and Caitlin Cooper; and many nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his father; and one brother, Edsley G. Edwards. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of Post 501 American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6574. He was an avid fisherman and will be remembered as a person living life to its fullest. Memorial services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in Valley Funeral Home in West Terre Haute. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Wednesday. Martha T. Stefanski McKee
Martha T. Stefanski McKee, 93, of Terre Haute died at 9:35 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, in Shakamak Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Jasonville. She was retired from Quaker Maid. She was born Oct. 20, 1911, in Jasonville to Paul Stefanski and Anna Ansorge Stefanski. Survivors include one son, Al McKee of Terre Haute; one daughter, Dorothy Morefield of Corsicana, Texas; two brothers, Thomas Stefanski of Terre Haute and Joseph Stefanski of Michigan; two sisters, Katherine Wallace of Jasonville and Margaret Stefanski of Terre Haute; three grandchildren, John Mike Saberton, Theresa Marshall and Matt McKee; and six great-grandchildren, Katie Saberton, Caroline Saberton, Caitlin Marshall, Cassidy Marshall, Matthew McKee and John Austin McKee. She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Eugene Schmitt officiating. Burial is in Grandview cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with a prayer service at 5.
John Alfred Noble
John Alfred Noble, 47, of Terre Haute died at 3:50 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, in his residence, following a lengthy illness. He had worked 15 years for the Terre Haute Housing Authority Maintenance Department. He was born Feb. 5, 1957, in Terre Haute to Paul A. Noble and Blanche L. Scott Noble. Survivors include two brothers, Thomas Noble and his companion Christine Debney, and Robert Noble and his companion Melinda Smith, all of Terre Haute; four sisters, Anita Glasstetter and her husband Joseph, Patricia Langford and her companion John Dennis II, Kristie Kaiser and her husband Mark, and Melinda Walley and her husband Robert, all of Terre Haute; a special aunt, Linda Johnson of Terre Haute; two special cousins, Donald Noble and Tina Reed; several nieces and nephews, including special nephews, Eric Powell and Aaron Powell; and other nieces and nephews, John P. Noble, Keith Martin, Brandon Glasstetter, Sharon Noble, Patricia Martin and Jessica Johnson; and a special dog named Kasey. He was preceded in death by his father on July 6, 1994; his mother on Oct. 30, 2000; and two brothers, William Noble on June 16, 2004, and Paul A. Noble Jr. on Feb. 1, 1973. The family would like to thank the Vista Care Hospice nurses and the staff of the Hope Center. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul H. Schoffstall Sr.
Paul H. Schoffstall Sr., 82, of Terre Haute died at 10:25 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, in his residence. He was a retired firefighter from the Terre Haute Fire Department. He was born Nov. 4, 1922, in Terre Haute to Phillip H. Schoffstall and Myrtle I. DeHart Schoffstall. His wife, Loray Jones Schoffstall, died April 9, 2002. Survivors include one son, Larry A. Schoffstall of Terre Haute; one daughter, Joan D. Kehoe of Terre Haute; one brother, George Schoffstall of Terre Haute; one sister, Lucille Laughter of Terre Haute; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Paul Schoffstall Jr. He served as Harrison Township trustee for 12 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and also served in the Marine Corps. He was a member of Union Christian Church, Terre Haute Masonic Lodge 19 Free & Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Fort Harrison Post 40 American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972, and Voiture 40&8. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in Callahan Funeral Home at 2425 Wabash Ave., with the Rev. Mark Grayless officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park, with graveside military rites by VFW Post 972. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
