George Schmaltz
CENTER POINT - George Schmaltz, 81, of Center Point died at 2:40 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, in his residence. He was employed by Public Service Indiana as an electrician, where he assembled and repaired substations across Indiana. He retired in 1978, following an accident which caused him to be paralyzed. Since his retirement he courageously battled illness, including paralysis and cancer. He was the son of Herman and Edna Givens Schmaltz. He married
Wilma Reynolds Schmaltz on June 30, 1945, and she preceded him in death. Survivors include one son, David and his wife Cindy of Brazil; two daughters, Jeri Lynn Archer and her husband Ron of Brazil and Sally McGill and her husband Jay of Martinsville; one brother-in-law, Bill Reynolds and his wife Clara of Brazil; and one sister-in-law, Catherine Reynolds of KirkIand, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Michael McGill and wife Jami of Princeton, Bradley McGill and wife Tambra of Linton, Noah Schmaltz of Brazil, Cisilee Phegley and husband Andy of Brazil, Ryan Archer of Sullivan and Riley Archer of Brazil; and six great-grandchildren, Ira, Benjamin, Zachary and Grant McGiIl and Matthew and Allison Phegley. He also was preceded in death by his parents. He was a member of Center Point Masonic Lodge 597 Free and Accepted Masons, and was a charter member of the Center Point Fire Department. He also served on the town board and as sexton of Center Point cemetery. Along with other talents, he enjoyed woodworking and made several pieces for his family. His hobbies included watching golf. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Friday in Center Point cemetery, with the Rev. Greg Comp officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley or Center Point cemetery. French Funeral Home of Brazil assisted with arrangements.
Frances Veronica Stuczynski
CLINTON - Frances Veronica Stuczynski, 89, of Clinton died at 5:29 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was a homemaker. She was born June 28, 1915, in Clinton to Joseph McDonald and Maude Davis McDonald. She married
Theodore Stuczynski on Dec. 26, 1936, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 1995. Survivors include three daughters, Martha Johnson of Arlington, Texas, Theresa Stuczynski of Clinton and Mary Jo Smith of Terre Haute; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one nephew. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Frances Russell on Jan. 23, 1997, and Dorothy Burrall on Jan. 23, 1999; three sisters, Martha C. Lanzone on March 6, 1985, Grace Chambers on May 7, 1982, and Amelia Streaker in August 1993; and two brothers, Paul McDonald on June 9, 1989, and Howard McDonald. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Clinton, the Sacred Heart Women's Club, St. Jude's Bridge Club and the Tally Bridge Club. Prayer service is 10:45 a.m. Friday in Karanovich-Giovanini Funeral Home, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 in Sacred Heart Church, with the Rev. Joseph Villa officiating. Burial is in Walnut Grove cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home, with Rosary at 7:30. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
Wilda Irene Vincent
MONTEZUMA - Wilda Irene Vincent, 96, of Montezuma died at 4:42 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, in her son's residence in Montezuma. She was a homemaker. She was born Oct. 20, 1908, in Louden, Ohio, to Joseph Peters and Pearl Swinderman Peters. She married
W.J. "Jack" Vincent on Sept. 4, 1928, and he preceded her in death in March 1987. Survivors include one son, Robert Vincent of Montezuma; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was a graduate of Mecca High School and a member of Montezuma Chapter 537 Order of Eastern Star. In her declining weeks, she was lovingly attended by her family and her nurses, Lorre Wesley and Megan Hamand of VistaCare Hospice in Terre Haute. A memorial service is 1 p.m. Sunday in Montezuma Independent Baptist Church, with the Rev. Keith McIntyre officiating. There is no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VistaCare Hospice Foundation, 3900 S. Seventh St., Terre Haute, IN 47802. Brown Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.
Clarence Edward 'Red' Bond
Clarence Edward "Red" Bond, 85, of Terre Haute died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, in Southwood Health and Rehabilitation. He was a retired electrician. He was born Aug. 30, 1919, in McGee, Mo. His first wife, Harlene Bond, died earlier. Survivors include his wife, Mabel Bond; one stepson, John David Wright and his wife, Gerry of Wilmington, N.C.; one stepdaughter, Jo Wordsworth of Terre Haute; one brother-in-law, Floyd Burt and his wife, Gretchen of Florida; three step grandchildren, Amy W. Edwards and her husband, Rob, Barry Wright and his wife, Dawn and Dawn Wordsworth Wade and her husband, James; five stepgreat-grandchildren, Brayden Edwards, Chandler Edwards, Foster Edwards, Hunter Wright and Kassie Wade. He also was preceded in death by six brothers; and two sisters. He was a 55-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 725. He was a Navy veteran and was at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked. He also was a member of the Gary Masonic Lodge, Zorah Shrine and Directors Staff, the American Legion Krietenstein Post 104 and the Sycamore Country Club. Services are 1 p.m. Thursday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Harold E. 'J.R.' Chrisman
Harold E. "J.R." Chrisman, 61, of Terre Haute died at 10:55 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital's emergency room. He retired as a firefighter for the city of Terre Haute after 21 years of service, and was currently employed at the Vigo County Court House in the maintenance department. He was born Feb. 14, 1943, in Terre Haute to Edward Chrisman and Carolyn Monnett Chrisman. Survivors include two sisters, Kay Brown and her husband, Gary and Sharon Grote and her husband, Raymond; three brothers, Larry Chrisman, Robert Chrisman and his wife, Penny and Ralph Chrisman and his wife, Patty; several nieces and nephews; a close friend and companion, Betsy Keith; and a good friend, Eva Fulford. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Shirley Johnson and her husband, Al. He was a member of Eagles Lodge Aerie 291 and attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Services are 11 a.m. Friday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel. Burial is in Highland Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Richard Cottrell
Richard Cottrell, 61, of Terre Haute died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, in Union Hospital. He was born Jan. 5, 1943, in Terre Haute to Wayne I. Cottrell and Mary Jeffers Cottrell. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Cottrell; two stepdaughters, Tonya McCarter and Teresa Brown; two sisters, Ruth McKinney and Verna Hoehn; two half brothers, Samuel Jones and Keith Jones Sr.; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, a twin brother, who died at birth, Harold Wayne Cottrell, Howard Cottrell and Gary Eugene Cottrell Sr.; two sisters, Vera Long and Barbara Ann Cottrell; and a half sister, Sametta Rose Jones. Elizabeth Joan Wright Gladden
Elizabeth Joan Wright Gladden, 71, of Terre Haute died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, in Union Hospital. She was a legal secretary and a court reporter for the Vigo County Superior Court. She was born May 2, 1933, in Terre Haute to Fred Wright and Gertrude Ryle Wright. Survivors include five sons, Mark Gladden and his wife, Teresa of Cincinnati, Keith Gladden and his wife, Evelyn, Barry Gladden, Scott Gladden and his wife, Angie, Paul Gladden and his wife, Jennifer; and one daughter, Valerie Rickard, all of Terre Haute; one brother, Thomas John Wright of Albuquerque, N.M.; eight grandchildren, Brian Rickard, Renee Rickard, Barbie Gladden, Summer Gladden, Katie Gladden, Kari Gladden, Maisen Gladden and Bailey Nasser; one great-grandson; two nieces, Sharolyn Herring and Suzanne Hobbs. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Emma Jean Polk; and one grandson, Connor Gladden. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday in Roselawn Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with the Rev. James Collings
TANGIER - James Collings, 68, of Tangier died at 8:10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, in Heritage House of Clinton. He retired as a fork lift operator for Futurex Industries of Bloomingdale after 20 years of service, and also worked 15 years for the Fountain Foundry in Veedersburg. He was born April 29, 1936, in Atherton to Rupert Gordon Collings and Hallie Margaret Lientz Collings. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Linda Little Collings, whom he married
June 5, 1961, in Tangier; one son, Jay Collings and his wife, Lori of west of West Terre Haute; two daughters, Lynn White and her fiancee, Roger Walters of Covington and Missy Stites and her husband, Bob of Tangier; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a graduate of Tangier High School and served in Germany with the Army. He was a member of Mount Herman Bible Church in Howard. Services are 10 a.m. Friday in Gooch Funeral Home, with the Revs. Helen Thomas and Steven L. Crum officiating. Burial is in Rush Creek cemetery, near Tangier. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and before services Friday.
Roy Scott Jr.
UNIVERSAL - Roy Scott Jr., 84, of Universal, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, in his residence. He was a retired foreman for the highway department. He was born June 2, 1920, in Kansas, Ill., to Roy L. Scott Sr. and Mable Warmouth Scott. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Belle Scott, in 1993. Survivors include one son, Paul Scott of Easton, Kan.; one daughter, Dianne Hensley of New Goshen; two sisters, Erma Frink of Clinton and Helen Hickman of Palm Desert, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Larry, in 1988; and one daughter, Carolyn, in 1999. He was wounded at Iwo Jima during World War II and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. Services are 2 p.m. today in Valley Funeral Home, with Bill Herb officiating. Burial is in Pleasant View cemetery in Tecumseh.
Edward Settles
SHELBURN - Edward Settles, 85, of Shelburn died at 6:50 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, in Sullivan County Community Hospital. He was born Nov. 24, 1919, in Mason, Ill., to Charles Henry Settles and Arminda Palmer. Survivors include his wife, Ernestine "Tina" Blubaugh Settles; two sons, Charles E. Settles and David W. Settles; one daughter, Carolyn Sue Trulove; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Services are 11 a.m. Friday in Mattox-McHugh Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael Nave officiating. Burial is in Leith cemetery in Mason, Ill. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, in the funeral home.
Juanita R. Young
DANA - Juanita R. Young, 87, formerly of rural Dana and a resident of The Waters of Covington since April, died at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, in her residence. She was born July 8, 1917, in Newport to Jennings Ivan and Lelia Ellen Malone Riley. Her husband, William C. Young, died Dec. 18, 1993. Survivors include one son, Dick Young; one daughter, Rita Haskins; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Art Riley; and three sisters, Lorraine Young, Evelyn Drew and Belle Pierce. Services are 10 a.m. Friday in DeVerter Brothers Funeral Home in Cayuga, with the Rev. Carl Huxford officiating. Burial is in Thomas cemetery in Newport. Mary K. Drudge
Mary K. Drudge, 56, of Sylvania, Ohio, and formerly of Terre Haute died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, in her residence surrounded by her family. She was employed as a speech pathologist at the Sunshine Children's Home where she received the Employee of the Year Award for 2004. She was born Aug. 8, 1948, in Terre Haute to Dr. George Mitchell and Mildred Mitchell. Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Michael, whom she married
August, 1969; sons, Jeffrey M. of Berkley, Calif., and Derek P. of Illinois; her father; one sister, Linda Miller of Norman, Okla.; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Helen and Frank Drudge. She was preceded in death by her mother. She graduated with honors from Purdue University in 1970, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and later received her master's degree from Kent State University. During her school years, she participated in singing and dancing events and at one time opened for the Beatles in 1964. She was an intrepid traveler, having resided in Malaysia, Germany and South Africa. She loved animals and was an avid reader. She found great pleasure and fulfillment at Sunshine Children's Home, where she loved the children and valued the friendship of her colleagues. She was a wonderful person and a great friend, which was evident from her many lifelong friends. Memorial services are 11 a.m. Thursday in Epworth United Methodist Church. Visitation is 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Walker Funeral Home in Toledo, Ohio. Patricia Crowther Mildazis
Patricia Crowther Mildazis, 48, of Terre Haute died at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, in Health South Rehabilitation Center. She was born July 10, 1956, in Terre Haute to Robert Crowther and Patricia Ann Howard Crowther. Survivors include her husband, Wayne Mildazis; one daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Victor Rubinacci of West Terre Haute; one son, Gary Lynn Couch Jr. of West Terre Haute; two stepsons, Josh Mildazis and Eric Mildazis; five sisters, Debbie Crowther, Bobbi Jean Moore, Tammy Morrison, Sandy Maggnetti and Carol Jenkins; five brothers, Harold Crowther, Robert Crowther, Clarence Crowther, Sam Crowther and Michael Crowther; and four grandchildren, Page Bennett, Cole Bennett, Anthony Rubinacci and Aiden Rubinacci. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Kenny Crowther; and one sister, Sharon Crowther. Services are 7 p.m. Wednesday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Honalora Hubbard officiating. Cremation has been scheduled. Visitation is 5 p.m. until services Wednesday.
Kenneth R. Williams
Kenneth R. Williams, 86, of Terre Haute died Saturday afternoon, Nov. 27, 2004, in Southwood Rehabilitation Facility. He retired from the Tribune-Star as a classified advertising manager in 1984. He was born Aug. 21, 1918, in Terre Haute to William Henry Williams and Leuvilla Clark Williams. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Charlotte M. Miller Williams; four sons, Kenneth H. Williams and wife, Rebecca, Charles A. Williams and wife, Donna, all of Terre Haute, Russell Williams and wife, Patricia of Tampa, Fla., and J. Scott Williams and wife, Armeen of Glen Carbon, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, Todd Williams, Chad Williams, David Williams and wife, Janie, Kristine Bryan and husband, Craig, Elizabeth Williams, Brooke Williams, Holly Williams, Claire Williams, Reese Williams and Paige Williams; and six great-grandchildren, Nicholas Williams, Harrison Williams, Rose Williams, Luke Bryan, Corinne Bryan and Grace Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William O. Williams and David Williams; and a sister, Ruth Harmon. He attended both Garfield and Gerstmeyer high schools, graduated in 1936, and attended college for two years. He was drafted into the Army in 1941 and was honorably discharged in 1946, as a 1st Lieutenant. He also worked in sales with the Dodge Division of Chrysler Corp., in Detroit, from 1947 to 1949, was employed by the U.S. Postal Service from 1949 to 1952, was a salesman for White River Paper Co., from 1952 to 1953, was a salesman for WTHI Radio, was promoted to WTHI Television sales manager from 1954 to 1955, and was employed as advertising salesman for the Tribune-Star Publishing Co. During the time of the Tribune-Star union strike, he was a salesman for WAAC Radio, returned to the Tribune-Star after the strike as advertising salesman and assistant local sales manager, was promoted to classified sales manager in 1970, where he remained until his retirement. From 1975 to 1976, he was president of the Indiana Classified Advertising Managers and was made a life member. In 1976, he was elected to the board of directors of the Mississippi Valley Classified Advertising Managers Association and was on the board until his retirement. He was a member of National Association of Classified Advertising Managers Association from 1970 to 1984. His current memberships include 64 years as a member of Euclid Lodge 573 Free & Accepted Masons, a 50-year member of Scottish Rite, a 32nd-degree Mason, a 54-year member of Zorah Shrine AAONMS; a 20-year member of Sycamore Country Club and the Final Edition Club. He was a past member of Boy Scouts, Order of DeMolay, American Legion Post 40, was a Little League coach, manager of Babe Ruth Baseball, was a past member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 86, Noon Optimist Club, and was on the board of directors of Family Services Association. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in Roselawn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Scott officiating. Entombment is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today, with Masonic services at 7 p.m., and 10 a.m. until services Wednesday.
