Edgar W. Wilson
Edgar W. Wilson, 74, of Terre Haute died at 9:44 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, in Union Hospital's emergency room. He was a retired machinist for Diecast of Michigan. He was born May 21, 1930, in Terre Haute to Walter Wilson and Ida Hauser Wilson. His wife, Della "Debbie" Basham Wilson, preceded him in death in February 1997. Survivors include two sons, James W. Wilson of Michigan and Larry Embry of Kentucky; three sisters, Betty Welsh of California, Barbara Rollings, and Eileen Vire of Farmersburg; six grandchildren, Amber, Michael, Troy, David, Barbie and Casey; two great-grandchildren, Kay Leigh and Jordan; and nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents; and eight brothers and sisters. He was a Korean veteran, having been discharged and awarded the Purple Heart from injuries received in the line of duty. Services are 1 p.m. Thursday in DeBaun Idaho Street Chapel, with the Rev. Gene Jeffers officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park, with graveside military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Thursday.
Callie 'Dot' Yeager
Callie "Dot" Yeager, 99, of Caroleton Manor in Connersville for the past three years passed away Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, in Fayette Memorial Hospital. She had been a resident of North Terre Haute for most of her life until moving to Connersville three years ago. She was born March 23, 1905, in Campton, Ky., to Robert Tyler and Eliza Sheppard Tyler. Prior to beginning her family, she worked at the Gillis Drug Co., in Terre Haute. She was active in civic and family activities, as a member of the Sunshine Arts Club, the Otter Creek Homemakers Club, as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and an active volunteer with the March of Dimes. Her primary interest was in the activities of the Otter Creek School, where her husband was a teacher. For many years she was very active in many of the volunteer activities of the school. She was a member of the Central Christian Church in Terre Haute and attended the North Terre Haute Christian Church for many years. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Martha Jayne and Jack Spencer of Connersville; one brother, Melvin Tyler of Brazil; one sister, Mildred Bell of Terre Haute; four grandchildren, Kathleen Jayne Conner and Michael Edwin Conner, both of Denver; Jon Tyler Conner of Seattle, Mariette Suzanne Schuster of Denver; three step grandchildren, Carla Freels of Savannah, LeAnn Spencer of Chicago, Debra Curtis of Fort Myers, Fla.; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Yeager, whom she married
Nov. 21, 1926, in Spencer. He passed away May 9, 1991. She also was preceded in death by six brothers; and four sisters, Services are 2 p.m. Friday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel. Frank D. Caniparoli
CLINTON - Frank D. Caniparoli, 87, of LaPorte died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, in his residence. He was born Sept. 23, 1916, in Turber, Texas to John Caniparoli and Stephana Ponczek. His wife, Mary M Nevins-Caniparoli, preceded him in death July 5, 1996. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday in Karanovich-Giovanini Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joseph Villa officiating. Burial is in Walnut Grove cemetery. Visitation is 12:30 until services Thursday.
Rosa Lee Lansdown
Rosa Lee Lansdown, 85, of Terre Haute died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was a homemaker. She was born March 5, 1919, in Staunton to Henry Grafe and Beulah Childress Grafe. Her husband, Allen Lee Lansdown, died in 1983. Survivors include three sisters, Claudith Remler of Terre Haute, Vida Lawson of Bloomington and Marie Kintner of Brazil; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, William Austin Grafe; and one sister, Mildred Laudermilk. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., with burial in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 1 p.m. until services Wednesday, in the funeral home.
John Michael Larimer
John Michael Larimer, 60, of London and formerly of Terre Haute passed away July 30, 2004, in his London residence. He was born Sept. 29, 1943, in Terre Haute to John Franklin and Lenora. His father; and his brother, Larry Larimer, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Josephine of London; two daughters, Dani-Ella of London and Saba of Venice, Calif.; one grandson, Shayne of Venice; his mother, Lenora Nens; and sisters, Sue Summers and Jayne Bealmear; and nephews and nieces, who reside in the United States. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after graduating from Gerstmeyer High School in 1961 and served six of 11 years in Vietnam, receiving numerous Distinguished Service Medals, including the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Upon leaving the Marine Corps, his career in security consultancy took him overseas. When he retired, he remained active within the Marine Corps League Joseph Bray Detachment 471 in Terre Haute, established the MCL London Detachment 1088 and developed new interests in genealogy and computer technology. A small family funeral was conducted at St. Marylebone Crematorium in London on Aug. 10, 2004. His ashes will be interred in Arlington National cemetery in Virginia and Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute next month. The Joseph Bray Detachment and the London Detachment will be conducting memorial services within the coming weeks.
Melvin R. Lucas
Melvin R. Lucas, 65, of Terre Haute and formerly of Staunton died at 3:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was employed at AMAX Corp., south of Staunton, for 30 years. At his retirement in 1995, he was a mine supervisor. He was born Jan. 13, 1939, in Brazil to Melvin Lucas and Doris Watts Lucas Berry. Survivors include his wife, Connie Barden Rilenge Lucas, whom he married
Oct. 10, 1998; three children, Krystal Rilenge, Keyla Rilenge and Benjamin Rilenge, all at home; one sister, Marilyn J. Chrisman of Terre Haute; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, LeRoy and Betty Barden of Sullivan; one brother-in-law, Calvin Barden and his wife, Julie of Lewis; one sister-in-law, Sue Moeller of Evansville; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and two great-nieces and three great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Russell J. Berry. He was a 1957 graduate of Staunton High School and an Army veteran. He was an avid race fan, associated with the racing team of Tony Bettenhausen Jr., until Bettenhausen and his wife were killed in a plane crash. He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Terre Haute, American Legion Post 2 of Brazil, the 20-year Club of AMAX Corp., where he was currently serving as president, the Indianapolis 500 Old Timers Club, Staunton Baseball League, the Indiana High School Athletic Association, where he was a basketball referee, and was a life member of Brazil Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Lodge 762. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday in Miller Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Joseph Kern officiating. Military rites by veterans from the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will follow the services. Burial is in Center Ridge cemetery in Sullivan. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and before services Thursday.
James Kelly McCombs
James Kelly McCombs, 49, of Terre Haute died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital's Intensive Care Unit, following a long illness. Survivors include his mother, Mary Helen Stuckman McCombs of Terre Haute; two brothers, Michael D. McCombs and his wife, Jeanne of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and Kevin McCombs and his wife, Ruth O'Donnell of Riley; six nieces and nephews, Gregory McCombs and David McCombs, both of Fountain Hills, Kathryn E. McCombs of Phoenix, Holly Lynn McCombs of Indianapolis and Allison O'Donnell and Matthew O'Donnell, both of Riley. He was preceded in death by his father. He graduated as a distinguished student from James Whitcomb Riley High School in South Bend and attended the South Bend Campus of Indiana University. Memorial prayer services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, in his residence, 2701 Wallace Ave., with the Rev. Lee Dorsey officiating. Bessie Lorene Martin
ROSEDALE - Bessie Lorene Martin, 87, of Rosedale died at noon Monday, August 23, 2004, in Terre Haute Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was a homemaker. She was born May 22, 1917, in Jackson Township in Parke County, to Henry Green and Sarah Ellen Martin Green. Her husband, Harold R. Martin, whom she married
March 12, 1935, in Clay County, died in 1982. Survivors include one son, Frank Richard Martin and his wife, Kathy of Terre Haute; one daughter-in-law, Jan Martin of Terre Haute; eight grandchildren, Rick Martin of Oklahoma, Jeff Martin and Jamie Mager and her husband, Greg, all of Rosedale, Lisa Watson and her husband, Marlin and Terri Martin all of Terre Haute, Jana Webster and her husband, Bill of Crawfordsville, Ron Martin and his wife, Becky of Rockville, Cindy Hettlinger and her husband, Eric of Terre Haute; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three special friends, Ella Wilson, Elsie Poole and Verona Nelson; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one son, James H. Martin, in 1993; a grandson, Jay Allen Martin, in 1992; and a great-grandson, Nicholas Frank Hettlinger, in 1997. She was an active volunteer with the Rosedale Senior Citizens Group and enjoyed her family and friends. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday in Cottrell-Gooch Funeral Home at 287 Main St., with the Rev. Dorothy M. Ault
SULLIVAN - Dorothy M. Ault, 80, of Sullivan died at 1:24 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, in Sullivan County Community Hospital. She worked for H.W. Gossard Co. She was born March 3, 1924, in Sullivan County to Charles Lloyd Abrams and Anna Mae Jerrells Abrams. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Carl J. Ault, who died March 2, 2004. Survivors include two daughters, Connie Cole and husband Richard of Sullivan, and Pennie Lawson and husband Ronald of Graysville; three brothers, Thomas Abrams and William "Curly" Abrams, both of Oaktown and Stanley Abrams of Carlisle; two sisters, Doris Jewitt of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Marilyn McCammon of North Webster; five grandchildren, Rich Cole and wife Kelli, Stephanie Luttrell and husband Clint, Kevin Lawson and wife Sarah, Kyle Lawson and Kaleb Lawson; and three great-grandchildren, Arika Cole, Chandler Luttrell and Noah Luttrell. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Abrams. She was a member of First Christian Church. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in Banks & Brust Funeral Home, with the Rev. Cindy Bryant
SULLIVAN - Cindy Bryant, 48, of Sullivan died at 1:41 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, in Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born Sept. 13, 1955, in Wood River, Ill., to Charles Leady and Norma Day Leady. Survivors include her husband, Carl Bryant; her parents; one son, Chad Bryant of Sullivan; two daughters, Channah Thrasher and husband Brian of Sullivan and Christy VanHorn and husband Mike of Jasonville; and one sister, Toni Risinger of Bremen, Ky. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Brittney Thrasher and Adam VanHorn. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday in Souls Harbor Church in Shelburn, with Bishop Bruce Campbell officiating. Larry Ray Pierce
SULLIVAN - Larry Ray Pierce, 47, of Sullivan died at 3:45 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, in Sullivan County Community Hospital. He was a certified public accountant and owner of Hammer and Pierce P.C. of Sullivan. He was born Jan. 19, 1957, in Sullivan to Billy Ray Pierce and Linda Lee Pirtle Pierce. Survivors include his wife, Sherrie Lemme Pierce; one daughter, Ashley Christine Pierce of Sullivan; his parents of Sullivan; one sister, Susan Kay Abrams and husband Jeff of Sullivan; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Vivian "Rudy" Lemme of Oaktown; and other relatives. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Sullivan Elks Club, American Institute of Public Accountants and was a 1975 graduate of Sullivan High School. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in Holmes Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Timothy Fleace officiating. Burial is in Center Ridge cemetery. Marjorie Allen
Marjorie Allen, 81, of Terre Haute died at 4:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, in Southwood Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born Oct. 31, 1922, in Terre Haute to Thomas C. Welch and Rosie Bryant Welch. Her husband, Garfield E. Allen, died in 1998. Survivors include one daughter, Mary L. McGoffney of Terre Haute; 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Delilah Harris, on Jan. 27, 2001; one son, Robert Lee Welch, on Dec. 10, 2003; and one brother, Luther Welch. She was a member of Saulters United Methodist Church. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Monday in Grandview cemetery. There is no visitation. Helen S. Duggan
Helen S. Duggan, 79, of Terre Haute, died at 2:03 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, in her residence. She was a homemaker. She was born Dec. 20, 1924, in South Boston, Va., to William David Smith Sr. and Ella Chandler Smith. Her husband, Lt. Col. Samuel F. Duggan (U.S. Army, Ret.), preceded her in death Feb. 26, 1989. She is survived by two sons, W. Michael Duggan and his wife Denise of Terre Haute and Donald E. Duggan and his wife Erica of Indianapolis; one brother, William David Smith Jr. and his wife Harriette of South Boston; one sister, Ruby Hawthorne of South Boston; five grandchildren, Christine Shaffer and her husband Steve of Avon, Samuel Duggan and his companion Kristen Freeman of Evansville; and Erin, Carter and Becca Duggan, all of Indianapolis; and two great-grandchildren, Logan Mack Shaffer of Avon and Andrew Phillip Nelson Duggan of Evansville. She attended Farmville State Teacher's College in Virginia. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church located at 4701 Poplar St., with the Rev. Bernie Jackson officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn cemetery. Kelly R. Dale Kennedy
Kelly R. Dale Kennedy, 33, of Hagerstown, Md., formerly of Terre Haute died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, in Williamsport, Md., as the result of an automobile accident. She was born Dec. 23, 1970, in Terre Haute. The daughter of Shawn C. Swisher and Diana June Liffick Swisher. She also was the paternal daughter of Fred R. Dale of Shelburn. Survivors include her 12-year-old daughter, Krystal Renee Kennedy of Hagerstown; her stepfather, Shawn C. Swisher of Deltona, Fla.; a sister, Shelly Frazier of Lawton, Okla.; two half brothers, Brant Leon Liffick and Ernest V. Liffick, both of Terre Haute; her maternal grandmother, Geraldine Liffick of Terre Haute; and her step grandmother, Algury Swisher of Greenup, Ill. She was preceded in death by her mother; paternal father; and her companion of 10 years, Michael Jones. She was employed in the personnel department of GST Auto Leather in Williamsport, Md., and as a bartender at Mavericks in Falling Waters, W.Va. She attended Hagerstown Church of the Nazarene. Services were Aug. 12, 2004, in Rest Haven Funeral Chapel in Hagerstown, with the Rev. Pete Zerphy officiating. Interment followed in Rose Hill cemetery. Kathryn F. Marks
Kathryn F. Marks, 87, of Terre Haute died at 1:15 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, in Southwood Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. She was a homemaker. She was born May 26, 1917, in Terre Haute to Albert Ahlers and Hazel Sawrey Ahlers. Her husband, Walter E. "Wally" Marks, died Nov. 24, 1992. Survivors include one son, John Wallace Marks and wife Charlene of Spring, Texas; four grandchildren, John A. Marks and wife Monica of Round Rock, Texas, Cary Marks and wife Joyce of Margate, Fla., Cathy Sazinski and husband Joe of Groveland, Fla., and Craig Marks of Clearmont, Fla.; six great-grandchildren, Bailey and John Andrew Marks, both of Round Rock, Dustin and Devin Marks of Margate, Ryan Korenic of Groveland, and Kerrilynn Marks of Coral Spring, Fla. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Walter M. Marks; and a brother, Albert Ahlers. She graduated from Wiley High School and had attended Indiana State University. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Tri Kappa sorority, was a volunteer with C.O.D.A. (Counsel on Domestic Abuse), was a member of Swope Art Museum and Indiana State University Varsity Wives. She also was a lifetime member of the American Needlepoint Guild and a charter member of the Florence Crittendon Home. Services are 6 p.m. Tuesday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St. Visitation is 5 p.m. until services Tuesday. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park.
