Katana Sharon-Marie Steelman

Katana Sharon-Marie Steelman, 3, of West Terre Haute died at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2004. She died in an automobile accident near Staunton. She was born Dec. 21, 2000, in Union Hospital, the daughter of Timothy David Steelman and Nicolle Jean Steelman. Other survivors include a brother, Dakota M. Bayer; two stepbrothers; one stepsister; maternal grandparents, Katana Jean Fulford, Jack Caton and George Fulford; great-grandparents, Pearl and Wanda Chambers; paternal grandparents, Katheryn and John Steelman; aunts, Sherry Laffoon, Jessica Becker, Shelly Cox and Geneva Collins; uncles, Kenny L. Cox, Brendan M. Becker and John Steelman; cousins, Jake Street, Elwood Street, Dalton Kearschner, Christopher Cox, Kevin Cox, Brian Becker and Reagan Becker. Katie, we love you, your memories will constantly be in all of our hearts and thoughts. You are an angel now baby doll. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Revs. Thomas Manbeck and Julie Lake officiating. Burial is in Watson cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Tuesday.

Louise Armstrong Davis

Louise Armstrong Davis, 100, died peacefully Saturday morning, Aug. 14, 2004, in Davis Gardens Health Center after a short illness. She was born July 7, 1904, in Riley Township to Ernest Armstrong and Hulda Boyle. She married Loran "Joe" Davis in 1923. She and Joe lived and farmed all their married life in Pierson Township. She moved to Terre Haute in 1971 and Westminster Village in 1991. She was the oldest member of Union Baptist Church, which she was actively involved in until moving to Terre Haute. She is survived by one son, Charles and his wife Sharon; a daughter-in-law, Rosie Davis; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Carson Armstrong; and a host of other friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loran; a son, Ted; a daughter, Betty Dean; two grandsons, Doug and Brad; her father and mother; and two sisters. Her family and friends all helped her celebrate her 100th birthday with a big party staged in the Community Center of Westminster Village. She was loved and tenderly cared for by the staff of Davis Gardens. Funeral services are noon Monday in DeBaun Funeral Home on Springhill Road, with the Rev. Jeff Lee officiating. Visitation is 9 a.m. until services Monday. Memorials can be given in her name to Union Baptist Church.

Jaymes Christopher Draper

Jaymes Christopher Draper, 19, of Indianapolis, formerly of Terre Haute died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born in Terre Haute to James K. and Nona Buza Draper. Survivors include his parents; two sisters, Candace and Rachel Draper; paternal grandparents, Joe and Suzie Philpott; maternal grandmother, Shirley Coleman; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Services are 2 p.m. Monday in Conkle Funeral Home, Speedway Chapel. Burial is in West Ridge Park in Indianapolis. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Sharon Ann Oliver

Sharon Ann Oliver, 66, formerly of Pimento died at 2:10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, in Harborside Healthcare. She was a retired clerk from the Linton Township Trustee office. She was born June 18, 1938, in Terre Haute to Curtis B. Culver and Kathryn Apple Culver. Survivors include her father, Curtis B. Culver and his wife Lori of Terre Haute; her husband, Bobbie J. Oliver of Pimento, whom she married May 26, 1958; a son and daughter-in-law, Forest Allen and Donna Oliver of Goodyear, Ariz.; three brothers, Curtis Dean Culver and wife Nancy, Robert Lee Culver and wife Brenda, and Benjamin Curtis Culver, all of Terre Haute; one brother-in-law, Ron Oliver and wife Gwen of Terre Haute; a sister-in-law, Maydine Payne of Terre Haute; two grandchildren, Sarah Oliver and Gavin Oliver; three foster grandchildren, Julia Decker, Marle Harrah and Christie Harrah; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother. She was co-founder of the Sullivan/Vigo Rural Water Corp., was a member of the Eugene V. Debs Foundation and was a former chairwoman for the local Democratic Party. Services are 2 p.m. Monday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Rev. Kyle Andrews officiating. Burial is in New Harmony cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

John Lueckel

John Lueckel, 78, of Terre Haute, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, in Union Hospital. He retired from Quaker Maid in 1979 with 33 years of service and was employed with Cinergy for 10 years before retiring in 1990. He was born In Sullivan County to John Lueckel and Edith Marshall Lueckel. Survivors include his wife, Nellie, whom he married Sept. 23, 1944, in Terre Haute; a son, John W. Lueckel and his wife Mary Ann of Arvada, Colo.; a daughter, Debbie K. McInnis and her husband Michael of Floyds Knobs; two grandsons, John C. and Jacob A. Lueckel of Arvada; two granddaughters, Erynne E. and Whitney L. McInnis of Floyds Knobs; one brother, Arthur Lueckel and his wife Heloise of Frostproof, Fla.; and several nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Geraldine Lueckel. Before his battle with Alzheimer's, he loved to be outdoors to plant trees, hunt, fish and travel with his beloved wife. At his request, there are no services. Cremation has been scheduled, with inurnment in Roselawn Memorial Park with family at a later date. The family requests, if friends so desire, that memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer's Disease Research Association, 9135 N. Meridian St., Suite B-4, Indianapolis, IN 46260.

Barbara M. Wright

Barbara M. Wright, 74, of Sun Lakes, Ariz., formerly of Terre Haute died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, in Arizona. She was born Aug. 25, 1929, in Indianapolis to Robert L. Mason and Harriett P. Mason. Survivors include her husband, Malcolm M. Wright; a daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Steve Flamion of Plainfield; a son and daughter-in-law, R. Bruce and Lynne Wright of Chandler, Ariz.; and a grandson, Chris Flamion of Plainfield. She was a graduate of DePauw University and a member of Alpha Chi Omega. She was a member of First Congregational Church, having served on its official board, was a member of the League of Terre Haute, Service League of Union Hospital, serving as treasurer of the Service League and Gift Shop. She also was a member of the Auxiliary of Chandler (Ariz.) Regional Hospital, had served as treasurer of the auxiliary, was a volunteer in the gift shop, and was past president of Tri Kappa. Private services will be conducted with cremation to follow. Messinger Mortuary and Chapel assisted with the Arizona arrangements. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Union Hospital Foundation or First Congregational Church in Terre Haute, East Valley Regional Cancer Center, Chandler Regional Hospital Foundation in Chandler, or Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014. Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., assisted the family with local arrangements.

Ralph H. Bohmeier

SULLIVAN - Ralph H. Bohmeier, 89, of Sullivan died at 10:50 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, in Sullivan County Community Hospital. He worked on a dairy farm and served as custodian for Sullivan schools and the Sullivan County Courthouse. He was born Aug. 11, 1915, in Bicknell to William Bohmeier and Lula Nieoringhaus Bohmeier. His first wife, Cozzette Siner Bohmeier, died in 1973. Survivors include his wife, Mabel Hudleson Bohmeier; one daughter, Sally Bohmeier of Sullivan; one stepson, LaWayne Wyatt of Riverview, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Gloria Rippy of Indianapolis and Juanita Watkins of Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, Mildred Huffer Buescher of Vincennes; one brother-in-law, John Siner of Evansville; one sister-in-law, Jeanette Bohmeier of Vincennes; several step grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Richard Bohmeier. He was a member of First Christian Church. Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Banks & Brust Funeral Home, with the Revs. David Cox and Warren Shake officiating. Burial is in Mount Zion cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Robin Shockley Roe

SULLIVAN - Robin Shockley Roe, 40, of Sullivan died at 10:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, in her residence. She was born April 22, 1964, in Vigo County to Roy Van Shockley and Bonnie Wesner Shockley. Survivors include her mother; two sons, Rodney Lawson and Raymond Shockley; two sisters, Tjuana Hauber and Karla Slicho; three grandsons, Chayse Lawson, Jakob Lawson, and Austin Shockley; one granddaughter, Cheyenne Shockley; three nephews, James, Jeffrey and Ryan; and two nieces, Ashley and Erin. She was preceded in death by her father. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday in Mattox-Wood Funeral Home in Terre Haute, with the Rev. Chief John Crow Dog officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn cemetery, Terre Haute. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made at the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.

Dorothy Lucas Jewell Beck

Dorothy Lucas Jewell Beck, 96, of Terre Haute died Monday morning, Aug. 23, 2004, in her residence. She was born Feb. 24, 1908, in Terre Haute to Andrew Berg and Catherine Wirtz Berg. She was preceded in death by three husbands, James Lucas, Nov. 13, 1954; Lawrence Jewell, April 27, 1971; and Cecil Beck, March 11, 1994. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Gerald Hartsock of Terre Haute; two sisters, Mary Blake of Terre Haute and Betty Warner of Brazil; two grandchildren, Gary Hartsock and Cheryl Shattuck and her husband, Mitch; two great-grandchildren, Aaron Shattuck and his wife, Jennifer and Lindsey Shattuck; two great-great-grandchildren, Logan Shattuck and Triston Shattuck; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Andrew Berg; and two sisters, Rosemary Rushford and Etta Blake. She was a member of Central Christian Church, Badoura Temple 23 Daughters of the Nile and Krietenstein American Legion Post 104 Auxiliary. Services are 2 p.m. Friday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with the Rev. Jimmy Baldwin officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice Foundation, 3900 S. Seventh St., Terre Haute, IN 47802; or, to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2001 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63131-3597.

Louis N. Knox

Louis N. Knox, 63, of Terre Haute died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, in his residence. He was a maintenance mechanic for Pfizer, retiring in 1998. He was born Nov. 1, 1940, in Terre Haute to Samuel Knox and Irene Norton Knox. Survivors include one daughter, Nicole Walker and her husband, Kale of Terre Haute; two sisters, Frieda Knox of Terre Haute and Carol Taylor of Indianapolis; two brothers, Herman T. Knox and his wife, Evelyn of Terre Haute and Gregory H. Knox of Tacoma, Wash.; three grandchildren, Loreal Knox, LaChelle Roberts and Cayleb Knox, all of Terre Haute; four aunts, Maxine Benford of Warren, Ohio, and Lucille Owens, Carolyn Armstead and Ella Mae Toades, all of South Bend; and a special friend, Tinita Smith of Terre Haute. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Jeffrey N. Knox in 2000. He was a 1960 graduate of Gerstmeyer High School and a member of Shilo Missionary Baptist Church. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday in Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 2415 Seventh Ave., with the Rev. Henry E. Barnhill officiating. Burial is in Stewart Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 pm. Friday in Dunn Family Mortuary, 2005 N. 13th St.

Melvin R. Lucas

Melvin R. Lucas, 65, of Terre Haute and formerly of Staunton died at 3:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was employed at AMAX Corp., south of Staunton, for 30 years. At his retirement in 1995, he was a mine supervisor. He was born Jan. 13, 1939, in Brazil to Melvin Lucas and Doris Watts Lucas Berry. Survivors include his wife, Connie Barden Rilenge Lucas, whom he married Oct. 10, 1998; three children, Krystal Rilenge, Keyla Rilenge and Benjamin Rilenge, all at home; one sister, Marilyn J. Chrisman of Terre Haute; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, LeRoy and Betty Barden of Sullivan; one brother-in-law, Calvin Barden and his wife, Julie of Lewis; one sister-in-law, Sue Moeller of Evansville; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and two great-nieces and three great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Russell J. Berry. He was a 1957 graduate of Staunton High School and an Army veteran. He was an avid race fan, associated with the racing team of Tony Bettenhausen Jr., until Bettenhausen and his wife were killed in a plane crash. He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Terre Haute, American Legion Post 2 of Brazil, the 20-year Club of AMAX Corp., where he was currently serving as president, the Indianapolis 500 Old Timers Club, Staunton Baseball League, the Indiana High School Athletic Association, where he was a basketball referee, and was a life member of Brazil Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Lodge 762. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday in Miller Memorial Chapel in Brazil, with the Rev. Joseph Kern officiating. Military rites by veterans from the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will follow the services. Burial is in Center Ridge cemetery in Sullivan. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today and before services Thursday.

Lawrence Herbert Thielman

Lawrence Herbert Thielman, 56, formerly of Terre Haute died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, in Mount Pleasant, S.C. He owned and operated Thielman Rare Books and Manuscripts, while living in Terre Haute. He was born Jan. 8, 1948, in Evansville to James Lawrence Thielman and Beulah May "Daisy" Thielman. Survivors include his wife, Eileen T. Thielman of Mount Pleasant; and one daughter, Katrina Danielle Thielman of Palo Alto, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents. He received his bachelor of science degree in economics from Indiana State University. Burial is Saturday in Roselawn Memorial Park. The family suggests, that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Lilly Library, Indiana University, 1200 E. Seventh St., Bloomington, IN 47405-5500; or, to Indiana State University, Cunningham Memorial Library - Special Collections, Terre Haute, IN 47809. Callahan Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., assisted with local arrangements.

Carolee Winans

Carolee Winans, 79, of Terre Haute and formerly of Paris, Ill., died at 6:35 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, in HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Terre Haute. She was a homemaker. She was born Feb. 13, 1925, in Paris to H. Ray Antrim and Neta Sanders Antrim. Her husband, Bernard Wesley Winans, whom she married Jan. 22, 1949, in Louisville. Ky., died Aug. 10, 2003. Survivors include one son, Wesley Winans of Terre Haute; one daughter, Pamalee Caress and her husband, Michael of Riley; one brother, Robert Antrim of Danville, Ill.; and three grandchildren, Jason Caress of Cincinnati and Kevin and Kyle Caress, both of Terre Haute. She also was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Michael Lee Caress. She previously worked at Allen & Steen Acceptance Corp., and Vigo Dodge, and was a licensed Realtor. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Paris, the Edgar County Home Extension and was a 12-year member of the Terre Haute Miniatures Guild, having works exhibited at the Swope Art Museum. She enjoyed reading and travel and was a frequent user of the Terre Haute South Library Branch. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Sutton & Son Funeral Home in Paris, with the Rev. Larry Beebe officiating. Burial will follow in Edgar cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until services Saturday. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society; or, to Terre Haute South Library.
