Barbara M. Wright

Barbara M. Wright, 74, of Sun Lakes, Ariz., and formerly of Terre Haute died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, in Arizona. She was born Aug. 25, 1929, in Indianapolis to Robert L. Mason and Harriett P. Mason. Survivors include her husband, Malcolm M. Wright; a daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Steve Flamion of Plainfield; a son and daughter-in-law, R. Bruce and Lynne Wright of Chandler, Ariz.; and a grandson, Chris Flamion of Plainfield. She was a graduate of DePauw University and a member of Alpha Chi Omega. She was a member of First Congregational Church, serving on its official board; the League of Terre Haute; and Service League of Union Hospital, serving as treasurer of the Service League and Gift Shop. She also was a member of the Auxiliary of Chandler (Ariz.) Regional Hospital, had served as treasurer of the auxiliary, was a volunteer in the gift shop, and was past president of Tri Kappa. Private services will be conducted with cremation to follow. Messinger Mortuary and Chapel assisted with the Arizona arrangements. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Union Hospital Foundation or First Congregational Church in Terre Haute; East Valley Regional Cancer Center, Chandler Regional Hospital Foundation in Chandler; or Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014. Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home assisted the family with local arrangements.

Margaret 'Peggy' Blair

BRAZIL - Margaret "Peggy" Blair, 79, of Brazil died at 11:56 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, in St. Vincent Clay Hospital. She was an educator for 42 years. She taught in Norris City and Belleville, Ill., and Gerstmeyer High School and Terre Haute North High School in Terre Haute. She was the chairman of the English department at Gerstmeyer from 1961 through 1971 and at Terre Haute North from 1971 through 1987. She was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Terre Haute to George Hallock and Louise Eccles Hallock. Her husband, Benjamin Paul "Bubbles" Blair died in 1998. Survivors include one stepdaughter, Nanci Blair Closson of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; one stepson, Tad O. Blair of South Bend; and grandsons, Shannon Closson of Tucson, Ariz., Corey Closson of Indianapolis, Benjamin Ray Blair of Troy, Ohio and Jeremy Blair of Kings Bay, Ga. She also was preceded in death by her parents. She graduated from Wiley High School in Terre Haute, and received her AB degree from Indiana State University in 1945 and her master's degree in 1952. She was active in the community, participating in several organizations, including Tri Kappa Sorority where she served as council (state) president from 1985 through 1987, Brazil Public Library board of trustees, Clay Civic Memorial Foundation Board of Directors, Women's Reading Club, Ladies' Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6606 in Clay City, Fort Harrison Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, Vigo County Retired Teachers, Indiana State Retired Teachers, North Ladies and the Bridge Club. She attended the First Presbyterian Church of Brazil. Private family graveside services are Friday in Summit Lawn cemetery in Brazil, with the Rev. Gary Scroggins officiating. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Moore Funeral Home. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Clay County Community Foundation, 523 E. National Ave., Brazil, IN 47834.

Kathryn Clearwaters

MARSHALL, Ind. - Kathryn Clearwaters, 97, of Marshall died at 9:35 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, in Rockville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rockville. She taught school in Marshall and Vermillion County. She was born Oct. 15, 1906, in Edgar County, Ill., near Dana to Faber R. Park and C. Grace Wheeler Park. Her husband, Wayne Clearwaters, whom she married June 24, 1944, in Kingman, died Aug. 4, 1984. Survivors include one brother, John W. Park of Santa Anna, Calif., and formerly of Crawfordsville; four nieces, Yvonne Boseker of Santa Anna, Florence Rodgers of Terre Haute, Mary Morrow of Danville, Ill., and Martha Cooper of Rockville; and two nephews, Jon W. Park of Santa Anna and Ure A. Johnson of Spring Valley, Calif. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister. She was a member of Marshall Federated Church. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in Barnes Mortuary in Rockville, with the Rev. Don Perry officiating. Burial is in Wesley Chapel cemetery in Scotland, Ill. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Wednesday.

Elizabeth Katherine Clerk

SULLIVAN - Elizabeth Katherine Clerk, 64, of Sullivan died at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, in Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. She was a retired registered nurse at Terre Haute Regional Hospital and a homemaker. She was born Oct. 12, 1939, in Sullivan to Elmer Webb and Audria Wilkerson Webb. Her husband, Hugh Kent Clerk Jr., died March 1, 2002. Survivors include three daughters, Deborah Iltzsch and her husband, Timothy, of Sullivan, Teresa Williams and her husband, BIlly, of Paxton and Laura Merritt and her husband, George, of Sullivan; one brother, Allen Webb of Carlisle; two sisters, Mary Spencer of Epharta, Wash., and Linda Aldridge of Sullivan; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and other relatives. She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Allison Clerk and Julie Clerk; her parents; and one brother, Bobby Dean Webb. She was a 1956 graduate of Dugger High School, a member of the Evangelical Methodist Church, the Sullivan Chapter Order of Eastern Star and the Homemakers Club. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday in Holmes Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Jimmy Baldwin officiating. Burial is in Mount Zion cemetery in New Lebanon. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Stanley Paul Smith

CENTER POINT - Stanley Paul Smith, 49, of Center Point died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital after suffering a heart attack on Tuesday. He was retired from the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller at the Terre Haute International Airport-Hulman Field. He was born Sept. 18, 1954, in Shawnee, Okla., to Paul Smith and Billie Smith. Survivors include his wife, Renay Rumple Smith; two children, John Plan of Indianapolis and Martha DeWeese and her husband, John DeWeese Jr., of Jasonville; two sisters, Toni Davidson and Sharon Chadwell; four nieces and nephews, Sarah and Curt Davidson, John Chadwell and Robert Baccus, all of Oklahoma; and three grandchildren, Westin and Allison DeWeese and Sarah Dunn. He was a member of the Friendly Grove Baptist Church in Lewis. Private services are pending. DeBaun Funeral Homes & Crematory assisted with arrangements.

Bobbie Gene Foster

WASHINGTON, Ind. - Bobbie Gene Foster, 70, of Washington died at 3:48 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, in Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. He worked for many years as a milk truck driver and construction worker with the Amish Community. He was born Feb. 21, 1934, in Alfordsville to Arvil Robert Foster and Mamie Glen Hedrick. Survivors include his wife, Judy Denu Alexander Foster, whom he married Dec. 27, 1965; six daughters, Debra Jean Ruckreigle and Mary Ellen Spaulding, both of Washington, S. Lynn May and Jennifer Leigh Luz-Reyes, both of Terre Haute, Carolyn Jo Bethel of Owensboro, Ky., and Pam Burgess of Henderson, Ky.; three sons, James R. Alexander of Chesterton and G. Randall Alexander and David W. Alexander, both of Terre Haute; three sisters, Helen Gotwald of Bloomington, Mabel Lamb of Petersburg and Mary Lou May of Fayetteville; three brothers, Don Foster of Washington, Jim Foster of Petersburg and Tom Foster of Dubois; a special cousin, Jewel Rany of Washington; 25 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Bobbie Dean Foster; one granddaughter, Margaretha Ellice Alexander; one stepsister, Vivian Moore; and one stepbrother, John Foster. He was a member of Veale Creek Baptist Church and attended Alfordsville schools. He was on the board of directors of East Union, Ebenezer and Oak Grave-Reeve Township cemeteries and also opened and closed graves in Southern Davies County for 20 years. Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Gill Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Williams officiating. Burial is in New Veale Creek cemetery. Pallbearers are Rob Foster, Brian May, Brent May, Keith Ruston, Aaron Ruston, Randy Ruston, Michael May, Richie Tolliver, Brandon Alexander and Zack Alexander. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Edith Kathryn Street Lucas

SPENCER - Edith Kathryn Street Lucas, 88, of Columbus and formerly of Spencer died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, in the Hospice of Southern Indiana facility in Columbus. She was in the abstracting business in Owen County for many years before retiring to Sarasota, Fla. She was born Dec. 30, 1915, in Orleans, to Fred Street and Nora Campbell Street. Her husband, Robert H. Lucas, whom she married Nov. 25, 1936, died earlier. Survivors include three sons, James and his wife, Jo of Columbus, Allen and his wife, Judy of Terre Haute and Thomas of Sarasota; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one niece; and one nephew. She also was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Jessie Street Curtis; two sisters, Marian Shaw and Mary Frances Mullican; and one great-granddaughter. She graduated from Twin Falls High School in Idaho and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Columbus. Services are 3 p.m. Thursday, in West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home, with the Rev. Eric Erickson officiating. Burial is in Riverside cemetery. Visitation is 1 p.m. until services Thursday. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana, Inc. 2626 E. 17th St., Columbus, IN 47201.

Paul F. Begeman

Paul F. Begeman, 81, of Terre Haute died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, in his residence. He taught vocational agriculture at Freelandville High School and also was a county agriculture agent for 24 years in Tippecanoe, Clay and Vigo counties, retiring in 1984. He was born Jan. 8, 1923, in Freelandville to Fred and Olga Strait Begeman. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Louretta Barton Begeman; a son, John Paul Begeman of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Alice Romas and husband Jim of Brazil; a brother, Conrad Begeman of Freelandville; and three grandsons, Chris Romas of Indianapolis, Matt and Brandon Romas, both of Brazil. He was a 1941 graduate of Freelandville High School, a 1948 graduate of Purdue University and later completed his master's degree. He served in the Army Infantry as a staff sergeant in the European Theater during World War II and received the Distinguished Service Medal. He was a member of Mayflower United Church of Christ in Naples, Fla., and a past member of the Brazil Rotary Club. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday in French Funeral Home in Brazil. Entombment is in Calvary cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Wilma A. Blair

Wilma A. Blair, 79, of Terre Haute died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, in Mountain Home, Ark. She was a retired teacher from Vigo County School Corp., with Terre Town Elementary second grade the last place she taught. She was born Aug. 17, 1924, in Terre Haute to Charles Franklin and Ella Leah Britton. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 49 years, Robert William Blair, in 1991; and her second husband, James L. Riddle, in 2002. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sue Ella and Ralph L. Griswold of Mountain Home; a son and daughter-in-law, William Robert and Ann Blair of Danville, Ill.; a grandson, Jason Robert Blair of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a granddaughter, Heather Lynn Blair of Schaumberg, Ill.; two step grandsons, Jay O'Blevis and Tim O'Blevis, both of Danville; three sisters, Johanna DeLong and Dorothy Steadman, both of Terre Haute, and Ruby Lewzader of Indianapolis; one brother, Billy Wayne Britton of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters and brothers. She was a member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church since 1946 and was a 1942 graduate of Gerstmeyer High School. She graduated from Indiana State University with a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in elementary education. She had a great love for little children. Private services and burial for family will be Tuesday. Visitation is noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., with burial in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Harriett S. Andrews

Harriett S. Andrews, 65, of Liberty, Ky., formerly of West Terre Haute died at 2:05 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, in her residence. She was a homemaker. She was born April 8, 1939, in West Terre Haute to Arthur Weffler and Olive Ross Weffler. Survivors include her husband, James Andrews, whom she married Nov. 7, 1959, in Las Vegas; one daughter, Susan Andrews; one brother, John Weffler; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, James Andrews Jr.; and one sister. She was a graduate of Concannon High School and had graduated from business college in Indianapolis. She had worked several years ago as a car-hop for her uncle in his Dog & Suds Restaurant. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., West Terre Haute, with the Rev. Kim I. Suits officiating. Interment is in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Elizabeth 'Betty' N. Eddy

Elizabeth "Betty" N. Eddy, 64, of Terre Haute died at 3:14 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, in Union Hospital. She was born April 29, 1940, in Troy, N.Y., to John Coyne and Evelyn Filuta. Survivors include her husband, Jerome Eddy; three sisters, Barbara Ryan, Sonia Goodspeed and Jean Hickman and her husband Fred; three nieces, Robin Murtland, Erina Lagace and Erina Turcic; and three nephews, Mark Ryan, Anthony Turcic and Kenneth Goodspeed. She was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, with a services at 7 p.m. The Rev. Russell Zint will officiate.

Maurice Busiere

Maurice Busiere, 92, of Ellenton, Fla., and formerly of Terre Haute, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, in Hospice House in Palmetto, Fla. He was a retired railroad engineer. He was born April 7, 1912, in Missouri to Theophile and Helena Busiere. Survivors include one son, Jerry Busiere and his wife Jean of Ellenton; five grandchildren, Jeff, Joanie and Jody Busiere, Jennie Chancey and Jan Farrar; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Graveside services are 2 p.m. today in Roselawn Memorial Park, with burial following. There is no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238. Roselawn Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

John Lueckel

John Lueckel, 78, of Terre Haute, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, in Union Hospital. He retired from Quaker Maid in 1979 with 33 years of service and was employed with Cinergy for 10 years before retiring in 1990. He was born In Sullivan County to John Lueckel and Edith Marshall Lueckel. Survivors include his wife, Nellie, whom he married Sept. 23, 1944, in Terre Haute; a son, John W. Lueckel and his wife Mary Ann of Arvada, Colo.; a daughter, Debbie K. McInnis and her husband Michael of Floyds Knobs; two grandsons, John C. and Jacob A. Lueckel of Arvada; two granddaughters, Erynne E. and Whitney L. McInnis of Floyds Knobs; one brother, Arthur Lueckel and his wife Heloise of Frostproof, Fla.; and several nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Geraldine Lueckel. Before his battle with Alzheimer's, he loved to be outdoors to plant trees, hunt, fish and travel with his beloved wife. At his request, there are no services. Cremation has been scheduled, with inurnment in Roselawn Memorial Park with family at a later date. The family requests, if friends so desire, that memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer's Disease Research Association, 9135 N. Meridian St., Suite B-4, Indianapolis, IN 46260.

Robin Shockley Roe

Robin Shockley Roe, 40, of Terre Haute died at 10:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, in her sister's residence in Sullivan. She was born April 22, 1964, in Vigo County to Roy Van Shockley and Bonnie Wesner Shockley. Survivors include her mother; two sons, Rodney Lawson and his significant other Clarisa, and Raymond Shockley and his wife Dawn; two sisters, Tjuana Huber and her husband Jack, and Karla Slicho and her husband Val; three grandsons, Chayse Lawson, Jakob Lawson, and Austin Shockley; one granddaughter, Cheyenne Shockley; three nephews, James, Jeffrey and Ryan; two nieces, Ashley and Erin; and a great-niece, McKensie McClung. She was preceded in death by her father. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday in Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Chief John Crow Dog officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made at the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
