HYMERA - Reva M. Dean, 62, of Hymera died at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2004, in Healthsouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Terre Haute. She was a school bus driver for the Northeast School Corporation. She was born June 17, 1941, in Greene County to Levi Thomson and Vesta Watson Thomson. Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Mahlon "Dizzy" Dean of Hymera, whom she married
Sept. 30, 1958; three sons, Randall Lee Dean and his wife Dee Dee of Spencer, Michael Dee Dean and his wife Frankie of Sullivan and Scott "Boog" Allen Dean and his wife Jody of West Terre Haute; four daughters, Lisa Ann Sack and her husband Steve and Michele Marie Frossard and her husband Joe, all of Avon, Kathryn Lynn Troyer and her husband Ed of Greencastle and Bonita Kay Latta and her husband Bill of Terre Haute; three sisters, Berniece Watkins of Mooresville, Vera Vest of Linton and Wilma Mowery of Camby; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Sisie Briscoe and Lorene Brannon. She was a member of the Hymera Chapter No. 289 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Services are 11 a.m. Friday in Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan, with the Rev. David Wilson and the Rev. Eddie Hammond officiating. Burial is in Peavey cemetery near Jasonville. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
Thomas Whitmarsh
HARMONY - Thomas Whitmarsh, 71, of Harmony, died at 3 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He had been in failing health and had undergone open heart surgery five years ago. At age 18 he began working as a machine operator for Allison's in Indianapolis and retired after 30 years of employment. He was born in Harmony on May 10, 1933, to Charles Whitmarsh and Irene Shaffer Whitmarsh. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Moser Whitmarsh, whom he married
on Dec. 1, 1955; one son, Thomas J. Whitmarsh, and his wife Connie of Harmony; one daughter, Linda Lea Nicosin, and her husband, Michael of Brazil; one brother, Bob Whitmarsh, and his wife, Wanda of Harmony; six grandsons, Shawn, Travis, Austin and Caleb Nicosin, Joshua Thomas Whitmarsh and Rick Haughee, all of the Brazil area; three granddaughters, Amy Nicole Whitmarsh and Michelle Broten, both of the Brazil area, and Francie Duke of Indianapolis; two great-granddaughters, Grace Nicosin and Savannah Archer, both of the Brazil area; one great-grandson, Zebediah Duke, Indianapolis; his mother-in-law, Irene Trench, West Terre Haute; and a niece, Mickey Woodrow of California. Whitmarsh was a graduate of Van Buren High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had served overseas in Germany. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. Services are 1 p.m. Thursday in Miller Memorial Chapel in Brazil. The Rev. Tom Roeschlein, assisted by Whitmarsh's son and son-in-law, will officiate. Interment is in Clearview cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
Carolyn Susie Armstrong
Carolyn Susie Armstrong, 60, of Terre Haute died at 11:26 a.m. Monday, June 7, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She retired as a clerk from Bailey's One Stop. She was born June 12, 1943, in Terre Haute to Virgil Heramb Sr. and Loretta Abel Heramb. Her husband, Jerry R. Armstrong, died April 30, 2002. Survivors include two sons, J.R. Armstrong and Tom Armstrong; one daughter, Anna Smith; one brother, Virgil Heramb Jr. and his wife Pamela; two brothers-in-law, Lee Armstrong and his wife Sherri, and Paul "Rick" Armstrong and his wife Karla; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents. She was a member of Union Baptist Church. Services were June 14 in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Rev. Jeff Lee officiating. Burial was in Hull cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of J.R. Armstrong.
James S. Bell
James S. Bell, 74, of Terre Haute died at 11:10 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2004, in his home after a yearlong battle with leukemia. He was retired from Woodburn Graphics after 38 years of service. He was born May 15, 1930, in Terre Haute to William J. Bell and Mary Good Bell. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Paulina M. Degler Bell; two daughters, Paula Ellis and her husband Rod of Terre Haute, and Kathy Phillips and her husband Don of Kulpmont, Pa.; two sons, James Kevin Bell and his wife Wanda of Terre Haute, and Brian Bell and his girlfriend Teresa and her daughter Elaine, all of Terre Haute; his mother-in-law, Pauline Degler of Terre Haute; a brother, Jake Bell of Dugger; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Rooksberry and Lynn Degler, both of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Shawn Sullivan, Michelle Conder, Jamie Totten, Stacey Totten, Brandon Phillips, Martha Bell and Daisey Bell; step grandchildren Ramsey Ellis and Abby Ellis; special great-grandchildren, Tiffany Smith and Lacey Sullivan; and his loyal dog, Toby. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, William Bell. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. According to his wishes, cremation has been scheduled, with a memorial service later. The family would like to thank the nurses in oncology in Union Hospital, the Vista Care nurses, and Dr. Kunapareddy and staff. Betty May Leachman
Betty May Leachman, 82, of Terre Haute, died at 12:20 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2004, in Union Hospital. She retired from Quaker Maid after 33 years of employment. She was born March 28, 1922, in Vigo County to Matthew Cesinger and Ina Lowish Cesinger. Her husband of 60 years, Russell W. Leachman, died July 10, 2001. Survivors include four sisters, Roberta Fox and her husband Joe of Riley, Freda Cornett and her husband Harry of Terre Haute, Pauline McIntee and her husband Roy of Redwood City, Calif., and Julia Hayes Dupree of Acton, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Betty Cesinger and Dorothy Cesinger, both of Terre Haute; several nieces and nephews; her dog, Tippy; and several good neighbors. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and six brothers, Virgil, Bill, Tub, Buz, Kenny and Ronald Cesinger. She was a 1939 graduate of Glenn High School, was a member of Riley Post 328 American Legion, Lawton-Byrum Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 Auxiliary and Wabash Valley Sewing Connection. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, water skiing and fishing, and played the mandolin. Services were Sunday, June 13, 2004, in Callahan Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., with Mark Grayless officiating. Terry Lee Ray, 49, of West Terre Haute died at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 12, 2004, in St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, because of complications of a bacterial infection and cancer. He was an operating engineer for MISCO Enterprise, where he had been employed for 22 years. He was born July 2, 1954, in Germany to Robert Ray and Fran Leek Ray. Survivors include his parents of West Terre Haute; two daughters, Rikki Ray and Terri Dawn Price and her husband Fred, all of Riley; two sons, Jeremy Ray and his fiancee Brandy Schell, both of West Terre Haute, and Rod Ellis of Alabama; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn Ray, Logan Price and Kirstan Ellis; one sister, Pamela Steenbergen and her husband Chad of Danville; one brother, Aaron Ray and his wife Jill of West Terre Haute; and three nephews, Blake Ray, Garrett Ray and Bailey Earls. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas and Mary Leek. He was a 1972 graduate of West Vigo High School. He was a leader of 4-H Horse and Pony Club, president of Wabash Valley Horseman's Association, president of the 4-H Council, and president of Stop 16 Saddle Club. He also was a member of Illinois Barrel Racing Association, Operating Engineers Union Local 841, West Terre Haute Chapter 428 Order of Eastern Star, West Terre Haute Lodge 687 Free & Accepted Masons, where he was past master, and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute. Services are 10 a.m. today in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., West Terre Haute. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 5 to 9 p.m. today, with a Masonic memorial service at 7 p.m. by Lodge 687. Toyoko Takahashi Reagin
CORY - Toyoko Takahashi Reagin, 79, of Cory passed away at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, June 13, 2004, in her residence. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Reagin was born April 23, 1925, in Iwate Ken, Japan, to Minokicki and Kinoe Magobe Chiba. Her grandparents, Chohei and Asayo Takahashi, raised her from the age of 4. She married
David W. Reagin in Tokyo in 1957 and moved with her husband to the United States in 1960. Survivors include her son, Wesley A. Reagin and his wife Kellie of Cory; and two grandsons, Ryan and Brandon Reagin, also of Cory. Services are 11:30 a.m. Friday in Schoppenhorst Funeral Home in Clay City, Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial is in Oak Hill cemetery.
Clara Smith
MARSHALL, Ind. - Clara Smith, 98, of Marshall died at 3:40 p.m. Saturday June 12, 2004, in West Central Community Hospital in Clinton. She was born Sept. 4, 1905, in Bloomingdale. She married
her husband, Lawrence K. Smith, on Sept. 27, 1928, in Rockville. He preceded her in death Dec. 13, 1978. Survivors include one son, Tom Smith of Huntley, Ill.; one grandson; three granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and one grandson. She was a 1922 graduate of Bloomingdale High School. She was a 50-year member of Hedges Chapter 51 of the Order of Eastern Star, and attended Marshall Baptist Church. Graveside services are 1 p.m. Saturday in Poplar Grove cemetery, with the Rev. Gene Walls officiating. Visitation is 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Barnes Mortuary in Rockville.

Margaret F. Stunkard Krauchi
CLAY CITY - Margaret F. Stunkard Krauchi, 78, of Clay City passed away Saturday, June 12, 2004, in the Shakamak Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Jasonville. She married
Richard Hale Krauchi on July 7, 1946. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Krauchi and her husband had owned and operated Krauchi's Red and White Grocery Store in Clay City for 30 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of Clay City Free Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6606 Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors include two sons, Monte L. Krauchi of Clay City and Wade Krauchi of Bamberg, Germany; and two grandchildren, Nick and Catlin Krauchi. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2004, in Maple Grove cemetery in Clay City. Schoppenhorst Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ROCKVILLE - Betty Mae McGrew, 81, of Rockville and formerly of Crawfordsville died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 12, 2004, in Vermillion Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center in Clinton. She retired from Lincoln Federal Savings Bank in Plainfield, with 40 years of service to the banking industry. She was born Sept. 8, 1922, in Anderson to Herbert V. Sharp and Grace Coil Sharp. Her husband, Samuel Robert McGrew, whom she married
on May 12, 1945, in Anderson, preceded her in death April 27, 1996. Survivors include a daughter, Diana Black and her husband Monty R. of Rockville; five grandchildren, Monty R. Black Jr. of Crawfordsville, Scott Brown, Dean Brown, Buffie Pratt and Jeff Black, all of Rockville; and 10 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents. She was a graduate of Anderson High School and Anderson Business College and attended classes at Indiana University. She was a traveling cost accountant for Stokley-Van Camp, later worked for Ladoga (Ind.) Building and Loan Association, Ladoga Federal Savings and Loan at Crawfordsville. During an interim period for Lincoln Federal she served as corporation treasurer, secretary and controller. She was a member of Rockville Christian Church, was a charter member of Central Indiana Controllers Society, a past president of Ladoga American Legion Auxiliary, past worthy matron of Ladoga Order of Eastern Star, past president of Crawfordsville Business and Professional Women's Club and served as treasurer of Lake Holiday Property Owners Association. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday in Gooch Funeral Home, 112 Howard St. Entombment is in Oak Hill cemetery Mausoleum in Crawfordsville. Visitation is one hour before services Tuesday.
