Rev. William A. Dehler

The Rev. William A. Dehler, SJ, 92, of Clarkston, Mich., and formerly of Terre Haute died Thursday, April 8, 2004, in Colombiere Center in Clarkston, Mich. He was a Jesuit priest and an educator. He was born in Terre Haute and attended Wiley High School and the University of Notre Dame before entering the Society of Jesus at Milford, Ohio, in 1931. During his studies to become a priest, he obtained his bachelor of arts degree from Xavier University, his master of arts degree from Loyola University in Chicago and his licentiate of philosophy and licentiate of sacred theology, both at West Baden College. He was ordained a priest June 14, 1944, in West Baden. In 1948, he completed a bachelor of library science degree at University of Chicago. His career as a Jesuit was devoted entirely to Jesuit education. He taught history at St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati and at John Carroll University in Cleveland. He served as librarian at University of Detroit and St. Xavier High School. From 1957 until his retirement in 1977, he taught philosophy and theology at Loyola University. He would have celebrated his 60th anniversary of ordination to priestly ministry later this year. Funeral Mass is 10:45 a.m. Monday in Colombiere Center, Clarkston, Mich. Wake is 3 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, with wake service at 7 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Jesuit Partnership, 2059 N. Sedgwick St., Chicago, Ill. 60614. A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home in Troy, Mich., assisted with arrangements.

Marybell R. Ingerson

Marybell R. Ingerson, 79, of Terre Haute died at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2004, in Harborside Healthcare. She was a retired supervisor for Spectrum Industries. She was born June 27, 1924, in Jasonville to Dewey Roundtree and Nellie Marie Canada. Her first husband, Don Robert McCullough; and her second husband, the Rev. George Ingerson, both died earlier. Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Scott; eight sons, George R. McCullough and his wife, Linda, Alan L. McCullough and his wife, Karen, Earl McCullough and his wife, Peg, Don E. McCullough, Dewey D. McCullough and his wife, Debra, Calvin E. McCullough and his wife, Tina, Bernard L. McCullough and his wife, Vickie and Keith McCullough and his wife, Deanna; two brothers, John Arley Price and Benny Ray Price; one sister, Betty Kennedy; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters; and one grandson, Adam McCullough. She attended Northside United Methodist Church, previously was a member of Foster Grandmothers Club and was a member of Eagles Aerie 291 Auxiliary. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday in DeBaun Idaho Street Chapel, with the Rev. Roy Carpenter officiating. Burial is in Oak Hill cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today and noon until services Saturday. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home.

Joan M. Hoffman

BRAZIL - Joan M. Hoffman, 72, of Brazil died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, in Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was an evening/night supervisor at the Clay County Hospital, retiring in 1994. She was born Aug. 13, 1932, in Brazil to Clyde McMurray and Helen Beeler McMurray. Her husband, Richard Hoffman, died June 21, 2001. Survivors include three sons; Dick Hoffman and his wife, Barbara, Max Hoffman and his wife, April and Michael Hoffman, all of Brazil; two daughters, Cindy Gardner and her husband, Virgil of Jasonville and Suzanne Tucker and her husband, Larry of Brazil; eight grandchildren, Mike Hoffman, Marjorie Hoffman, Tom Hoffman, Connie Hoffman, Jacque Hoffman, Vonda Clark, Ashley Tucker and Erika Tucker; two great-grandsons, Grant Michael Hoffman and Jacob Theisz; one brother, Bob McMurray of Austin, Texas; one aunt, Rosemary Green of Brazil; one sister-in-law, Marjorie Johnson of Brazil; and nieces, nephews and other extended family. She also was preceded in death by her parents. She graduated from Brazil High School, received her LPN from Ivy Tech and received an associate's degree from Indiana State University. She enjoyed crafts and sewing, and was an avid reader. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday in French Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lyle Monnett officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Saturday. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Otter Creek Christian Church. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home.

Sister Virginia (Anna Cecelia) Broderick

Sister Virginia Broderick, 96, of St. Mary-of-the-Woods, also known as Sister Virginia Therese, died at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2004, in Mother Theodore Hall. She was an educator. She was born June 3, 1907, in Chicago to Patrick Broderick and Bridget Nelligan Broderick. Survivors include many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Broderick; and three sisters, Mary Duckett, Julia Deveney and Rita Broderick. She attended St. Mel Grade School and Providence High School, both in Chicago, received her bachelor of arts degree in education from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and her master of arts degree in education from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Providence Sept. 8, 1926, professed First Vows Feb. 26, 1929 and Final Vows Aug. 15, 1934. She taught in schools staffed by the Sisters of Providence in Indiana and Illinois, including St. Patrick's in Terre Haute from 1935 to 1939. Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, with the Rev. Daniel R. Hopcus officiating. Burial is in the cemetery of the Sisters of Providence. Wake is 2:30 p.m. Monday in Providence Hall, with wake service at 4:30 p.m., in the church. The Callahan Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Mary Lou Barbour Campbell

Mary Lou Barbour Campbell, 87, of Terre Haute died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, in Union Hospital. She was an administrative assistant in the Bureau of Motor Vehicles from 1969 to 1972 and a clerk in the Vigo County Voters' Registration Office from 1972 to 1980. She was born Sept. 3, 1916, in Clay County to Corey Barbour and Grace Hickman Barbour. Because of the early death of her mother, she was reared by her aunt and uncle, Charles and Elizabeth Shew of Libertyville. Her husband, Robert F. Campbell, whom she married Aug. 21, 1937, died in 1998. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Jerry Isaacs of Tulsa, Okla.; one grandson, Brent Isaacs of Cincinnati; one granddaughter, Beth Layton Isaacs of Tulsa; one niece, Betty Jo Martin of Terre Haute; and several other nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents. She was a 1934 graduate of Fayette High School, a member of the former First United Methodist Church and Centenary United Methodist Church. She was a former Sunday school teacher at First United Methodist Church and was a Republican precinct committeewoman for 40 years. In her early years she was a 4-H leader. Services are 3 p.m. Saturday in Roselawn Funeral Home at 7500 N. Clinton St., with the Rev. Paul Wagner officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 1:30 p.m. until services Saturday. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the 14th and Chestnut Community Center, 1403 Chestnut St., Terre Haute, IN 47807. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home.

Ruth Steadman Boyles Delaney

Ruth Steadman Boyles Delaney, 86, of Brownsburg and formerly of Indianapolis and Terre Haute died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, in Brownsburg Health Care. She was born June 30, 1917, in Terre Haute to Harry Wilbur Steadman and Cora Hulen. Her first husband, Otis F. Boyles, and her second husband, William R. Delaney, both died earlier. Survivors include one son, Benjamin E. Boyles; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday in Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, with Roger Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. Porter Funeral Home in North Salem assisted with arrangements.

Harold 'Scootie' Jones

Harold Jones, affectionately called "Scootie" was born Sept. 2, 1932, to Doris Jones in Terre Haute. He was educated in the public school system of Terre Haute, where he attended Lincoln Elementary and Gerstmeyer High School. He later attended Indiana State Teachers College and Indiana College of Mortuary Science, and was drafted into the United States Army. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; three sons, Andre G., Marshall "Marty" and Harold Tyrone, all of Terre Haute; one special daughter-in-law, Carolyn L.; four granddaughters, Tiffany Monique, Chaundrea Nicole, Zharia L'Jaye and Krislyn Renee Jones. Harold departed this life Monday, April 5, 2004, in Terre Haute. A Celebration of Life tribute is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in Russell Funeral Home. Graveside services will be in Grandview cemetery.

Alberta E. Hines

Alberta E. Hines, 95, of Topeka, Kan., and formerly of Terre Haute died Monday, April 5, 2004, in Midland Hospice House in Topeka. She was born Jan. 31, 1909, in Terre Haute to James Harry Sartain and Violet Sartain. Her husband, John William Hines, whom she married in October 1931, died in 1992. Survivors include one daughter, Dr. Mary Alice Hines of Topeka; one niece, Dorothy Dunn of Terre Haute; five other nieces and nephews; and one sister-in-law. She was a 1927 graduate of Garfield High School and graduated from Indiana State University June 12, 1931, with a bachelor of arts degree with majors in Latin and mathematics. As her husband was employed by Indiana public school systems as principal, coach and teacher and by the U.S. Wage and Hour Division and the National Labor Relations Board as assistant to the Indianapolis Regional Director, she participated in church and other community activities of several Indiana communities. She was the worthy matron of the Bedford Chapter of Order of Eastern Star and was an advisor to the Bedford Chapter of Order of the Rainbow Girls. She was an elder, deacon and general church volunteer for Indianapolis, Bedford and Topeka Presbyterian Churches. Following the death of her husband in their Florida residence, she moved to Topeka to live with her daughter in 1996. Cremation is scheduled by Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel, Topeka, with a memorial service to be arranged this summer in Indianapolis. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice House, 200 S.W. Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606; or, to the First Presbyterian Church, 812 S.W. Topeka Blvd., Topeka, KS 66612.

Patty J. York Lewis

Patty J. York Lewis, 70, of Saginaw, Texas, and formerly of Terre Haute died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, in her residence. She was born Aug. 8, 1933, in Terre Haute to Roy York and Mary York. Survivors include her husband, Richard Lewis; two daughters, LeNeva Henson and Laura Wampler; two sons, Ronald Langford and Donald Langford; three stepchildren, Richard Jr., Rhonda and Anthony; six grandchildren; three step grandchildren; four sisters, Judy Williams, Janet McCullough, Sharon Locke and Brenda Ketner; one brother, Terry York; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Saturday in Roselawn Memorial Park. Roselawn Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Brian Alan Hobbs

BRAZIL - Brian Alan Hobbs, 42, of Brazil died Monday, April 5, 2004, in University of Cincinnati Hospital from complications following treatment for cancer, which he had battled since November. He was born April 1, 1962, in Hammond to Gene Hobbs and Genola Hobbs. Survivors include his wife of 22 years, April P. Hobbs; four children, Aubrey Wesley and her husband, Doug, Anna Hobbs, Alysa Hobbs and Austin Hobbs; one sister, Crystal Cooper and her husband, Tom; one brother, Martin Hobbs and his wife, Robin; his mother, Genola Hobbs; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ron and Wendy Holman and Joe and Meagan Stutz; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Nancy Stutz; one nephew, Aaron Hobbs; nieces, Caylen Cooper and Emma Holman; and a large extended family of friends. He was preceded in death by his father. He served as an elder in the Northview Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Brazil. He worked extensively with Kingdom Hall building projects. He also helped with disaster relief work in Puerto Rico and El Salvador, building homes, Kingdom Halls, and repairing Assembly Halls. A memorial service is 3 p.m. Saturday in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 2731 W. U.S. Highway 40, with David Wesley presiding. French Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

James H. Hunley

BLOOMINGDALE - James H. Hunley, 81, of Bloomingdale and formerly of Cedar Lake died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2004, in West Central Community Hospital in Clinton. He retired in 1984, from Amoco Oil Co., in Whiting, as a pipefitter and in the asphalt lab, after 42 years of service. He was born Nov. 13, 1922, in Bearcreek, Mont., to Parke Farnsworth and Jane Edith Reavley Farnsworth. Survivors include three sons, James W. Hunley and his wife, Eileen and John A. Hunley and his wife, Terry, all of Cedar Lake and Thomas H. Hunley of Bloomingdale; three sisters, Betty Wilhite and her husband, Melvin of Wooster, Ohio, Doris Lee of West Terre Haute and Donna Walls and her husband, Gene of Rockville; a very special friend, Evelyn Hutson of Bloomingdale; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John Farnsworth, Tom Farnsworth and William Ellington; and one sister, Dorothy Alexander. He attended Rockville High School and Nyesville Full Gospel Fellowship Church. He was a 50-year Mason, a member of McKinley Lodge 712 in Hammond and attended Parke Lodge 8 in Rockville. He was a member of Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute. Services are 2 p.m. Friday in Gooch Funeral Home, 112 Howard St., Rockville, with the Rev. Gene Walls officiating. Burial is in Rockville cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today in Gooch Funeral Home, with a Masonic memorial service at 7:30 p.m., by Parke Lodge 8.

Glenn F. 'Tim' Fields

Glenn F. "Tim" Fields, 71, of Terre Haute died at 8:43 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2004, in Union Hospital's emergency room. He was a retired supervisor for Townsend Tree Service. He was born Nov. 19, 1932, in West Terre Haute to Robert Clark Fields and Corine Davis Fields. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Wilma J. Wallace Fields, whom he married April 6, 1951, in Terre Haute; seven daughters, Polly Lee and her husband, Mike, Sally Cuffle and her husband, Mark, Glenna Wester and her husband, Tom and Diana Hein and her husband, George, all of Terre Haute, Cindy Meyer and her husband, Jerry of Bowling Green, Anita Donaldson of Indianapolis and Bonnie Massa and her husband, Paul of West Terre Haute; three sons, Jack Fields of Rockville, Clark Fields of Hawaii and Timothy Fields of Terre Haute; three sisters, Carol White, Rosemary Schimmel and Peggy Readinger, all of Terre Haute; four brothers, Charles Fields and Rex Fields, both of Terre Haute, Harold Fields of Kokomo and Alan Fields of Texas; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of Terre Haute Bible Center. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Nash officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today and 7 a.m. until services Thursday. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Russell Rogers

Russell Rogers, 78, of Orange City, Fla., and formerly of Terre Haute died Saturday, April 3, 2004, in Orange City. He was born Feb. 23, 1926, in Terre Haute. Survivors include five sons, Russell Carl Rogers II, Gary Shane Rogers, Larry Wayne Rogers, Ronnie C. Rogers and John Michael Rogers; two daughters, Rita Louise Rogers and Carla Jean Rogers; one brother, Ernest L. Rogers; his fiancee, Dottie Gladue; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday in Oaklawn Chapel of Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home in Sanford, Fla.

Mary Love Adamson

GREENCASTLE - Mary Love Adamson, 93, of Greencastle died Monday, April 5, 2004, in Rockville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rockville. She had been a resident there since November 2002. She was born Dec. 31, 1910, in Salisbury, N.C., to John Thomas Love and Susan Elizabeth Pace Love. Her husband, Howard Randall Adamson, whom she married Sept. 29, 1958, died Feb. 7, 1993. Survivors include one brother, Edgar Robert Love of Greensboro, N.C.; one sister-in-law, Leslie Love of Salisbury; two stepdaughters, Ellen Thomas and Ethel Watt; two stepdaughters-in-law, Marie and Delilah Adamson; nieces and nephews; step grandchildren; and stepgreat-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Paul, Thomas and Tince Love; a sister-in-law, Laverne Love; two stepsons, Raymond and George Adamson; two stepsons-in-law, Gerald Thomas and Byron Watt. She was a member of Lena United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of Salisbury Chapter 117 Order of Eastern Star and Tri-County Extension Club. Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday in Lawson-Slack Funeral Home in Brazil, with the Rev. Bob Kumpf and Jay Wayne Love officiating. Burial is in Calcutta cemetery in Brazil. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday with an OES service at 7 p.m. The family suggests that friends' expression of sympathy be a donation to the Lena United Methodist Church; or, to their favorite charity. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
