Survivors include her mother; maternal grandparents, Sam and Cindy Hawn; maternal great-grandparents, Sam and Frances Fleck, and Mary Jane Hawn; paternal grandmother, Deanna Sue Cheesman; aunts, uncles and cousins. CAYUGA - Brian Wayne Cheesman, 32, of Newport died at 1:51 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, north of Perrysville. He was born Nov. 3, 1969, in Clinton to Kenneth D. Cheesman and Deanna Sue Harrison Cheesman. Survivors include his wife, Julie Hawn Cheesman; his mother; one brother, Kip Cheesman; one sister, Kindalyn Faltersack; a nephew; and a niece. According to the family's request, cremation is scheduled, with private graveside services at a later date. DeVerter Brothers Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
Wade H. Gambill
DUGGER - Wade H. Gambill, 84, of Dugger died at 7:25 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, in Sullivan County Community Hospital in Sullivan. He was born Aug. 6, 1917, in Greene County to John Gambill and Anna Mae Smith Gambill. Survivors include one sister, Norma Jean Fulford; and 21 nieces and nephews. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday in Newkirk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Howard Sewell officiating. Burial is in Dugger cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today.

JASONVILLE - Steven D. Johnson, 43, of Jasonville died at 11:30 a.m.. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, in his residence. He was born Oct. 7, 1958, in Greene County to Dewayne Johnson and Barbara Hale Johnson. Survivors include his wife, Mary R. Shea Johnson; his father and stepmother, Dewayne and Diana Johnson; his mother and stepfather, Barbara and James Morrison; two sons, Shane Johnson and Chad Johnson; one brother, David Johnson; one sister, Lisa Neal; two stepsisters, Shelly Van Horn and Chasity Samm; maternal grandmother, Geneva Johnson; several aunts and uncles; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in McClanahan-Lee Funeral Home. Burial is in Antioch cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today.
Verta E. Marlowe
JASONVILLE - Verta E. Marlowe, 70, of Jasonville and formerly of Hammond, died at 7:02 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, in Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born Nov. 2, 1931, in Fordsville, Ky., to Johnny Baker and Beulah Howard Baker. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Kenneth H. Marlowe and Robert W. Bish. Survivors include four sons, Donald H. Marlowe, Dennis R. Marlowe, David E. Marlowe and William "Bob" Bish; three sisters, Mary Mullins, Effie Neivels and Judy Stiefel; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. There are no services. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. both Wednesday and Thursday in McClanahan-Lee Funeral Home. Cremation to follow.
Genevieve R. Osburn
FAIRBANKS - Genevieve R. Osburn, 88, of Fairbanks died at 2 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, in Sullivan County Community Hospital in Sullivan. She was a retired librarian from Shelburn Library. She was born Dec. 26, 1913, in Rocky Ford, Colo., to Walter Scott and Pearl Weatherford Scott. Her husband, Noah Allen Osburn, died in 1973. Survivors include two sons, Bill Osburn and his wife, Marilyn, and Jim Osburn and his wife, Pat; two daughters, Beth Holden and her husband, Don, and Jo Mahan and her husband, Don; one sister, Katherine Lenz; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was a long time member of Kingsley United Methodist Church. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, in Terre Haute, with the Revs. Todd Outcalt and Curtis Bond officiating. Burial is in Pogue cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today.
Alma F. Rissler
BRAZIL - Alma F. Rissler, 102, of Brazil died at 3:20 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, in St. Vincent Clay Hospital. She was born Jan. 3, 1900, in the Asherville area in Clay County, to John Byers and Margaret Fischaber Byers. Her husband, Clyde Rissler, died in April 1975. Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Jackson; one son, Bob Rissler; five grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a large extended family. Services are 10 a.m. Thursday in French Funeral Home, with the Revs. Brent Meyer and Bob Sampson officiating. Burial will follow in Boone-Hutcheson cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and before services Thursday.
Bradley Andrew Campbell
Bradley Andrew Campbell, 34, of Atlanta and formerly of Terre Haute died of natural causes at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, in Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. He was born Feb. 14, 1968, in Terre Haute to Tom Bridges and Rebecca Bridges and was adopted and raised by his grandparents, Edna and Clifford Campbell. Survivors include his mother; and aunts, uncles and cousins. Graveside services are 3 p.m. Saturday in Woodlawn cemetery in Knoxville, Tenn. Berry Funeral Home in Knoxville assisted with arrangements.
Winnifred Louise Toy Dilg
Winnifred Louise Toy Dilg, 77, of Terre Haute died at 11:35 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, in Westridge Healthcare. She was born March 27, 1925, in Terre Haute to William J. Toy and Ethel B. Mattox Toy. Her husband, Peter Carl Dilg, died July 9, 2000. Survivors include a special caretaker, Jill Hobert. Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in DeBaun Funeral Home Springhill Chapel, with Jerry Burns officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
Luther Gordon Johnson
Luther Gordon Johnson, 80, of Terre Haute died at 11:50 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, in Union Hospital. He was an attorney, practicing law from 1958 until his retirement in 2001. He was born June 30, 1922, in East Otterbein, Tippecanoe County, Ind., to Earl Leroy Johnson and Grace Odell Stovall Johnson. Survivors include his wife, Pauline Struble Johnson, whom he married
June 7, 1949; three daughters, Joanne Leslie Johnson of Indianapolis, Diana Louise McCleary and husband David of Terre Haute, and Laurel Lynn Lovely and husband Steve of Cincinnati; two sons, James Leroy Johnson and wife Janis of Dallas and Keith Logan Johnson and wife Susan of Terre Haute; one sister, Ruth Pollard of Lafayette; three grandsons, Eric Logan Johnson and Lucas Ritter Johnson, both of Terre Haute, and Jake Lee Johnson of Dallas; and one step granddaughter, Sarah Jane Meneely of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Alliean Johnson Christensen and Alice Johnson. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps 1st Battalion, 21st Marines, 3rd Marine Division from March 1942 to May 1946. He also served as sergeant in the U.S. Army from August 1950 to September 1951 during the Korean War. He graduated from Valparaiso Law School in 1953. He was a claims adjuster for State Farm Mutual Auto Insurance Co. from March 1953 to May 1959. He then joined the law firm headed by Earl M. Mann and Hansford C. Mann, later joined by Buena Chaney. He left the Mann Law Firm in December 1998 to practice law with his son Keith until his retirement Dec. 31, 2001. He was city attorney for Clinton under Mayors John Goldner and Hugh McGill. He was formerly commander of Clinton Civil Defense, a Boy Scout troop leader, and chairman of the Voters' Assembly of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he was a member. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and the U.S. Marine Corps League, Joseph Bray Detachment. Services are 10 a.m. Monday in Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 645 Poplar St., with the Rev. Philip G. Meyer officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Eric Johnson, Lucas Johnson, David McCleary, Steve Lovely, Hansford C. Mann Jr. and David Jones; honorary pallbearers are Charles K. McCrory, Harold J. Eugene R. Kipple, D.D.S.
Eugene R. Kipple, D.D.S., 82, of Terre Haute died at 1:35 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, in the emergency room of Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was a retired dentist. He was born Sept. 16, 1920, in Terre Haute to Oscar Kipple and Leah Coleman Kipple. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Vester and her husband Alfred Vester Jr., and Lee Ann Waychoff and her husband Roger Waychoff; two sons, Brian Kipple and Gary Featherston; one sister, Rosemary Fread; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William Kipple; a brother-in-law, Jerry Fread; and one granddaughter, Natasha Evans. He was a graduate of Indiana University School of Dentistry and was a Navy veteran of World War II, where he served on the USS Tanner and attained the rank of lieutenant junior grade. He was a charter member and past president of the Greater Terre Haute Kiwanis Club and was a past lieutenant governor of the Collegiate Division of the Kiwanis. He also was a member of the Sycamore Club and the Indiana University Alumni Club. Services are 11 a.m. Monday in DeBaun Idaho Street Chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Leek officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn cemetery, with graveside military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. Pallbearers are Jerry Armstrong, E.V. Halt, Robert Puckett, John Cundiff, Walter L. Nelda Louise Sheehan
Nelda Louise Sheehan, 79, of Terre Haute died at 11:27 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, in Union Hospital. She worked for 33 years in the Vigo County Courthouse in the Treasurer's Office and the Auditor's Office. She was born July 9, 1923, in Terre Haute to Fred "Goody" Goodwin and Anna Oates Goodwin. Her husband, Francis "Buddy" Sheehan, died in 1975. Survivors include one daughter, Janice "Tootie" Morris and husband Danny of Terre Haute; three sons, Timothy F. Sheehan and wife Lucy, Patrick J. Sheehan and Michael P. Sheehan, all of Terre Haute; nine grandchildren, Brian Sheehan, Courtney Sheehan, Cari Sheehan, Michael Sheehan, Matt Sheehan, Erin Downey and husband Patrick of Carmel, Renee Patterson and husband Shawn of Valparaiso, Stephanie Bramel and husband Cory of Noblesville, and Danielle Morris; and one great-grandchild, Cameron Patterson. She also was preceded in death by her parents. She was a lifelong member of St. Ann's Parish and the Altar Society of St. Ann's, the Vigo County Democrat Club, and a past member of the Knights of Columbus. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Ann Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ron Ashmore officiating. Burial is in Calvary cemetery. Pallbearers are Danny Morris, Brian Sheehan, Shawn Patterson, Michael Sheehan, Matt Sheehan, Patrick Downey and Cory Bramel; honorary pallbearers are Chuck Hanley and Andy Atelski. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in Mattox-Ryan Funeral Home, with rosary service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Ron Ashmore officiating.
Lois E. Strole
Lois E. Strole, 93, of Terre Haute died at 11:47 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, in Heritage House Health Care in Clinton. She was retired as a schoolteacher from the Vigo County School Corp. She was born March 15, 1909, in Vigo County to Aldine Strole and Elizabeth Groves Strole. Survivors include several cousins, including Robert Strole and his wife Phyllis of West Terre Haute. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Indiana State University. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, Vigo County Retired Teachers Association and Indiana State Retired Teachers Association. Private graveside services were Friday in Highland Lawn cemetery. There were no funeral services or visitation. Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., assisted with arrangements.
Irma G. Crays
ROCKVILLE - Irma G. Crays, 96, of Rockville died at 3:05 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, in Asbury Towers in Greencastle. She was a homemaker and former music teacher in Rossville, Ill. She was born Nov. 16, 1905, in Clayton, Ill., to Alden Marshall Gibson and Electa Beckman Gibson. Her husband, Dwight L. Crays, whom she married
Aug. 25, 1928, died Aug. 25, 1976. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Norval Dixon of Rockville; three grandchildren, David Dixon of Dallas, Susan Harbison of Rockville and Douglas Dixon of St. Louis; and four great-grandchildren, Collin Harbison, Kyle Harbison and Rachel Harbison, all of Rockville, and Erin Dixon of Dallas. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Merrill Gibson; one half brother; and three half sisters. She attended Jacksonville College for Women in Jacksonville, Ill. She was a member of the board of directors of Rockville National Bank and a member and former choir director and soprano soloist for many years at Rockville United Methodist Church. She also was a member of YADIRF Bridge Club, Tri Kappa sorority, Rockville Current Literature Club and Estabrook Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution. Services are 11 a.m. Monday in Rockville United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Alvin Wilson, Henry Oakes and Jenny Charles officiating. Burial is in Memory Garden cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Barnes Mortuary. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Rockville United Methodist Church.
