Charles 'Pete' Sutton
BLOOMINGDALE - Charles "Pete" Sutton, 80, of Bloomingdale died at 5:38 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, in the emergency room of West Central Community Hospital in Clinton. He was born Aug. 4, 1922, in Rockville to Charles Sutton and Edna Osborne Sutton. Survivors include his wife, Ruthana Zackmire Sutton; one daughter, Charla Ann Hopkins; one brother, William Sutton; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. At his request his body will be donated to the Anatomical Education Program at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. Gooch Funeral home in Rockville assisted with arrangements.
Wilma S. Cade
Wilma S. Cade, 91, of Terre Haute died Saturday night, Feb. 15, 2003, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was a bookkeeper with Stewart Carey Co. She was born Nov. 16, 1911, in Vigo County to Isaac M. Spear and Alma Grace Welty spear. Her husband, Ernest Wayne Cade, whom she married
Sept. 2, 1933, died June 15, 1989. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Wegrich and her husband, Richard of Huntsville, Ala., and Linda Canner and her husband, Michael of New Castle; two sons, Ernest William Cade and his wife, Norma of Huntsville, and Don Cade and his wife Jo of Naples, Fla.; one sister, Kathryn Somers of Terre Haute; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a twin brother, Wilbur Spear; and brothers, Harold Spear and Edwin Spear. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women's Group, the Garden Club, Woman's Department Club and Sugar Grove Home Economics Club. Services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Callahan Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steven Bahrt officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Tuesday.
Macie M. Hull
BRAZIL - Macie M. Hull, 92, of Brazil died at 7:35 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, in St. Vincent Clay Hospital. She was born Aug. 26, 1910, in Logan, W.Va., to Robert L. Ray and Mary M. Chambers Ray. Her husband, Walter L. Hull, died Nov. 24, 1994. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Downey and Joyce Swartz; four sons, Cordell Hull, Lowell Thomas Hull, Richard Hull and Walter "Butch" Hull; one sister, Iris Thompson; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday in First Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Al Dicer officiating. Burial is in Summit Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today in Lawson-Slack Funeral Home, and one hour before services Tuesday in the church.
E. Irene Philpott
MARSHALL, Ind. - E. Irene Philpott, 96, of Marshall died at 3:42 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, in Ben Hur Health Care in Crawfordsville. She was born Nov. 17, 1906, in Parke County to Grant Paddock and Effie Bash Paddock. Her husband, Earl Philpott, died Nov. 16, 1980. Survivors include two sons, Charles E. Philpott and Richard D. Philpott; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. Services are 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Marshall Federated Church, with the Rev. Don Perry officiating. Burial is in Poplar Grove cemetery. Visitation is 9:30 a.m. until services Tuesday in the church. Rice Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
Helen Elaine James
Helen Elaine James, 79, of Seelyville died Sunday, June 15, 2003, in St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, Ill. She worked for Roots and LS Ayers, retiring in 1999. She was born May 18, 1924, in Terre Haute to Homer and Albertina Kemp. Survivors include two daughters, Susanna James of Seelyville and Joanna Cundiff and her husband, John of East Glen; two sons, Jonathan James and his wife, Connie of Wheatland, and David James and his wife, Marilyn of Art; 10 grandchildren, Aaron, Scott, Bill, Josh, Justin, Levi, Alison, Jon Paul, Autumn and Ian; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Arnold and her husband, Forrest and Marjorie Kearschner; one brother, Ray Kemp and his wife, Joyce; special in-laws, Anna and Mel James, and Earlene James; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Fred Kemp; and a son, Rick James in 2002. She was very active and enjoyed music and traveling. She excelled in academics, music and drama in school and was an active member of the Northview Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Brazil. Services are 1 p.m. today in Roselawn Funeral Home, with Brother Brian Hobbs officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park.

William H. Lewis III, 54, of West Terre Haute died at 2:32 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2003, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was self employed in the heating and cooling business. March 25, 1967, in West Terre Haute; his mother, Anna M. Williams of West Terre Haute; one daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Frank Przybycien of West Terre Haute; three sons, William H. Lewis IV and his wife, Bayja, Matthew Allen Lewis and his companion, Carole Nicoson, all of West Terre Haute and Austin D. Lewis and his companion, Wendy O'Neal of Terre Haute; one sister, Judith Clark of West Terre Haute; two brothers, Jackie Ridner or West Terre Haute and Jerry Dean Lewis of Terre Haute; six grandchildren, William H. Lewis V, Amishia R. Lewis, Ashlee Lewis, Brittany Lyn Lewis, Jacob Lewis and Alaina Przybycien; four step grandchildren, Meaghan Przybycien, Coryn Przybycien, Michael Nicoson and Katie Nicoson; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; and one grandson, Matthew Allen Lewis Jr. He was a trustee of the West Terre Haute Young Men's Club and a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 501 in West Terre Haute. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home. Burial is in Bethesda cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m.. Friday and 7 a.m. until services Saturday. There will be a gathering for friends and family at 4 p.m. Saturday in West Terre Haute Young Mens Club.
Michael E. Lutz
Michael E. Lutz, 47, of Terre Haute died at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2003, in Union Hospital. He was a mechanic. He was born Aug. 22, 1955, in Terre Haute to Emory L. Lutz Sr. and Margaret Norris Lutz. Survivors include his mother of Terre Haute; two brothers, Emory L. Lutz Jr. and his wife, Beth and Ronald R. Lutz, all of Terre Haute; one aunt, Eva Lutz of Terre Haute; two nephews, Justin and Eric Lutz of Terre Haute; one niece, Ashley K. Lutz of Terre Haute; two great-nephews, Tanner and Conner Lutz; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father; and two brothers, Wayne Russell Lutz and Dale A. Lutz. He was a graduate of Terre Haute North Vigo. Graveside services are 1 p.m. Friday in Grandview cemetery, with the Rev. Manuel Ojeda officiating. DeBaun Funeral Homes assisted with arrangements. Francis H. Lightfoot
Francis H. Lightfoot, 91, formerly of Terre Haute died Saturday, June 14, 2003. He retired from Ernst & Young as a managing partner in 1972. He was born Nov. 18, 1911, in Buffalo, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret in November 1973; and his second wife, Ruth in February 2003. Survivors include one son, William Lightfoot; two daughters, Ruth Mackey and Joan Lightfoot; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He came to Terre Haute in 1960, as a manager of the Terre Haute office of Ernst & Ernst accounting firm (later named Ernst & Young). While in Terre Haute he was involved in many community activities including past president of the Rotary Club, past district governor of Rotary District 658, past president of the Chamber of Commerce, organizing president of Junior Achievement, on the board of directors of CCTH, charter member of Strawberry Hill Cannoneers, a member of the Aero Club and a 60 year member of the Elks Club. Memorial services are pending at Hull's Creek Chapel, 1139 Saranap Ave., Walnut Creek, Calif. Memorial contributions may be made to your local Hospice or to the charity of your choice.
Luann Oeding
Luann Oeding, 71, of Terre Haute died at 11:29 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2003, in St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis. She was a homemaker. She was born Aug. 17, 1931, in Elkville, Ill., to Laburn Catlett and Martha Doan Catlett. Survivors include her husband, William J. Oeding, whom she married
April 4, 1964; two sons, Stephen Oeding and William Oeding; five daughters, Peg Slater, Sue Parks, Cindy Moore, Kathy Culver and Marcy Contri; one brother, Casher Catlett; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Asahel Russell; and one sister, Esther Covington. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Friday in the church, with the Rev. Richard Kaley officiating. Burial is in Calvary cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Floyd L. Rollings
Floyd L. Rollings, 90, of Mattoon, Ill., and formerly of Neoga, Ill., and Terre Haute died at 9:25 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2003, in Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Coles County, Ill. He was born July 30, 1912, in Terre Haute to William Alfred Rollings and Stella M. Flowers Rollings. Survivors include his wife, Frieda P. Schoby Rollings; one son, Joe W. Rollings; one daughter, Nancy Saul; two sisters, Mary Lowe and Doyne Gober; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. Services are 11 a.m. Friday in Swengel - O'Dell Funeral Home in Neoga, with the Rev. Judith Curry officiating. Burial is in Neoga Memorial cemetery. Military services are by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4325 of Mattoon. Visitation is one hour before services Friday.
Sandra Cooper Pulmano
Sandra Cooper Pulmano, 50, of Orange Park, Fla., and formerly of Terre Haute died at 4:40 a.m. EDT Tuesday, June 10, 2003, in Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. She was born Sept. 6, 1952, in Terre Haute to Foster E. Cooper and Ida M. Cooper. Survivors include her husband of 18 years, Shane Pulmano; one son, Dane Pulmano of Orange Park; her mother of Terre Haute; three sisters, Pattey Zigler and her husband, Kenny, Linda Howard and her husband, Dan, and Connie Clapp, all of Terre Haute; one brother, Don Cooper and his wife, Kelley of Terre Haute; several nieces and nephews; and a large extended family including, Sam and Luming, Sherman and Julie, Shirley and Phil, Sherard and Chandalyn, Shamley and Sandy, Nick Perrelle, Sherwin and Tips. She was preceded in death by her father. She was a graduate of Garfield High School and a member of Cross Lane Community Church in Terre Haute. Services were June 12, 2003, in Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Hubbard officiating. Her remains will be laid to rest in Jacksonville Memory Gardens cemetery. Gloria Jeannette Sewell Walters
Gloria Jeannette Sewell Walters, 77, formerly of Terre Haute died Thursday, June 12, 2003. She was born Feb. 10, 1926, to Jeannette Rose Haverstock and Edmond A. Sewell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Ray Walters. Survivors include one daughter, Deborah May; two sons, David M. Walters and Dewey M. Walters; one stepsister, Patty Eveland; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Memorial services are 4 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2003, in Cloverdale Assembly of God Church in Cloverdale. Natalie Carty Andrews
Natalie Carty Andrews, 58, of West Terre Haute, died at 9:52 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2003, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was retired from Sony Digital Audio Disc Corp., where she worked as an accounts payable clerk. She was born July 7, 1945, in Terre Haute to Robert Young and Velma Lorraine Garner Young Hollingsworth Greene. Survivors include her husband, Ray; her mother of West Terre Haute; one daughter, Niki Carty of St. Bernice; one son, DeWayne Carty and his wife, Kim, of St. Bernice; three stepdaughters, Sarah Sotak and her husband, Jay, of Terre Haute, Anna Andrews and Dianne Andrews, both of Alexandria, Va.; two stepsons, John Andrews of Camby and Joe Andrews of Lafayette; one sister, Luann Hollingsworth of Brownsburg; one stepbrother, Dan Greene of Tucson, Ariz.; and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father. She was a 1963 graduate of Newport High School. She was a member of World Gospel Church and a lieutenant colonel in the Civil Air Patrol. She was a founding member and president of the Crossroads of America Amateur Radio Ladies Association. She was the former secretary of the Wabash Valley Amateur Radio Association and an American Red Cross volunteer. She was the recipient in 2000 of the John K. Lamb and the Everyday Hero awards. She also received the Brentlinger Award in 2003. She received the Meritorious Service Award from the Civil Air Patrol and was a trained severe weather spotter for the National Weather Service. Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Coker officiating. Burial is in South Vigo cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
Thermon T. Howard
Thermon T. Howard, 86, of Prairieton, died at 8:15 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2003, in his residence. He was a retired insulator for Insulators Local No. 18. He was born Dec. 8, 1916, in Vigo County to Harry Howard and Nellie Pearson Howard. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Gardner Howard in 1999. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Eddie Myers and Nancy and Mike Davis; three sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Brenda Howard, Mike and Gay Howard and Harry and Penny Howard; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his parents. He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the Prairie Creek American Legion Post 404. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday in DeBaun Funeral Home Springhill Chapel with the Rev. Rick Swan officiating. Burial is in New Harmony cemetery with graveside military services by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. Visitation is 10 a.m. to service time Tuesday.
Evelyn C. Holmes
Evelyn C. Holmes, 83, of Terre Haute, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, in Union Hospital. She was an active volunteer in the Spay-Neuter League of Vigo County and the Indiana Literacy Foundation/Vigo County program. She was born in Terre Haute to Frederick Holmes and Flora Mae Greg Holmes. Survivors include a sister, Ann Holmes Olson of Rockford, Ill.; a niece, Susan Miller of Carmel; four nephews, Bradley Holmes and Robert Olson, both of Indianapolis, Brian Holmes of McCordsville and Edward Gassman of Winchester, Ky. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Frederick G. Holmes of Indianapolis; and a sister, Virginia Gassman of Palo Alto, Calif. She was a 1937 graduate of Wiley High School. She was employed as an office manager for Joseph Callahan at Eastside Loan Company between 1950-1963 and as an executive secretary to Virgil Morris at International Laborers & Hood Carriers Union, Local No. 204 between 1964-1979, at which time she retired. She was actively involved in professional businesswomen's organizations during her career. She was a member of St. Mark's United Church of Christ. A memorial service is 10 a.m. Saturday in Roselawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Spay-Neuter League of Vigo County, P.O. Box 3251, Terre Haute, IN 47803.
