Charles Hale
Charles Hale, 86, died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Royal Oaks. He was born in Terre Haute on Aug. 7, 1915, to Thomas George Hale and Myrtle Carter Hale. Survivors include his wife, Lucille Keifner Hale; two sons, Jack Hale and Richard Hale; one daughter, Jane A. Jones; one brother, Tom Hale; two sisters, Dorothy Pennington and Virginia Higgins; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at DeBaun Idaho Street Chapel with the Rev. Charles Parr officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday.
Theresa Marcellino
Theresa Marcellino, 78, of Terre Haute died at 3:50 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, in Union Hospital. She was born April 3, 1923, in Terre Haute to Edgar Smith and Margaret Connors Smith. Survivors include her husband, Tom R. Marcellino; one daughter, Linda Sanders; one son, Tom M. Marcellino; one brother, Paul Smith; one sister, Betty Stover; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Services are pending in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home.
Virgil A. Reel
Virgil A. Reel, 36, of Pimento died at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, in an auto/semi accident at Putnamville on U.S. Highway 40. He was born Oct. 13, 1965, in New Jersey to Harold Reel and Marline Sutherland Reel. Survivors include his wife, Theresa Isham Reel; two daughters, Ashley Dawn Reel and Elizabeth Catherine Reel; one stepson, Billy McCullough; one brother, Terry Lee Reel; one sister, Amanda Darlene Reel; three nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Rev. Myra Torrance officiating. Burial is in New Harmony cemetery, with graveside military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday.
Mary Frances Ryan Smith
Mary Frances Ryan Smith, 74, of Terre Haute died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, in Union Hospital. She was born July 24, 1927, in Terre Haute to Frank M. Ryan and Mary Jane Miller Ryan. Survivors include her husband, Donald E. Smith, whom she married
June 25, 1947; two daughters, Virginia L. "Ginger" Smith and Sarah Jane "Sally" Lowery and her husband, Norman L. Lowery, all of Terre Haute; one sister, Sally Lou Russell and her husband, Jerry of Terre Haute; one brother, Patrick J. Ryan and his wife, Mary of Terre Haute; five grandchildren, Jeffrey B. Smith and his wife, Sara, Norman D. Lowery and his wife, Britt, L. Christine Lowery, Henry T. Smith and Lesley Bell and her husband, Casius; and five great-grandchildren, Norman Forrest Lowery, Alexandria Leigh Bell, Casius D. Bell Jr., Mary Elizabeth Lowery and Shaelynn Virginia Anna Bell. She was preceded in death by her parents. She graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Terre Haute and attended St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and Indiana State University. She was a member of many civic, charitable and social organizations. Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. today in St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Monsignor Larry Moran officiating. Burial is in Calvary cemetery. Pallbearers are Norman L. Lowery, Jeffrey B. Smith, Norman D. Lowery, Henry T. Smith, John Root and Steve Moody. Mattox-Ryan Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Carmelite Monastery, 59 Allendale, Terre Haute, IN 47802; or, to the Terre Haute Boys and Girls Club, 200 N. John R. White
John R. White, 77, died Friday morning, Nov. 23, 2001, in his home. He was founder and president of Hydro-Power Inc. He was born June 26, 1924 in Indianapolis to Clarence White and Georgia Felum White. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; son Steve of Terre Haute; daughters Linda of Evansville and Carolyn Trueblood and her husband Jim of Columbus; grandchildren, Anne and Mike Trueblood; and sister, Marian Woosley of Bellevue, Wa. He graduated from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in June 1947 and was an active Rose-Hulman alumnus, receiving an honorary doctorate degree from Rose-Hulman in 1997. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Engineer's Battalion on the European Front. He was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church, a 50-year member of the Euclid Lodge No. 573 and Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute. Indiana University Medical Center is handling arrangements. There will be a private memorial service. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the White Chapel of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
Louis F. Chubb
CLINTON - Louis F. Chubb, 80, of Clinton died at 12:35 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was born March 20, 1921, in Clinton to Louis Chubb and Nancy Ellen Williams. He was a mine foreman. He was preceded in death by one son, Louis Chubb; three brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife, Betty Hoke Chubb of Clinton, whom he married
on May 3, 1941; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Gary Thomas of Clinton; three grandchildren, Trace Thomas of Columbia, S.C., Jeannie Shelton of Harrison, Ohio and Jennifer Joy of Clinton; one great-granddaughter, Jordan Shelton of Harrison, Ohio; and one brother, Norman Chubb of Clinton. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Jerusalem No. 99 F&AM;, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Zorah Shrine, Vermillion County Low Twelve Club and First Christian Church of Clinton. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Frist Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Steve Christy officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday with Masonic memorial services at 7 p.m.
Carol W. Johnson
ROCKVILLE - Carol W. Johnson, 64, of Rockville died at 4:25 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was born June 12, 1937, in Clinton to Harold Johnson and Thelma Russell Johnson. He had formerly worked at Midland Glass Co. in Terre Haute several years ago. Survivors include his parents of Hillsdale; two daughters, Esther Thomas of Tangier and Tracy Rene Johnson; one son, Frank Johnson; granddaughter Rachel Sauter of Waveland and grandson J.T. Thomas of Tangier; great-grandson William Randell Sauter of Waveland; sisters Phyllis Walker of Perrysville and Nancy Conklin of Rockville; brothers Tom Johnson of Springfield, Mo., and Jim Johnson of Bryan, Ga., and Harold Johnson Jr. of Valparaiso; and several nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Montezuma F&AM; No. 89 and the St. Berniece Sportsmans Club. Services are 2:30 p.m. Monday at Frist Funeral Home in Clinton. Burial will follow at Helts Prairie cemetery. Visitation is from 1:30 p.m. until services Monday.
Clarence Woodrow Jones
ROCKVILLE - Clarence Woodrow Jones, 83, of Rockville died at 11:10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001 in Walnut Creek Nursing Facility in Rockville. He was born Dec. 28, 1917, in Ensley, Ala., to Isaac Jones and Lucy Livingston Jones. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Phillips Jones. Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Heilig; one sister, Louise Long; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services are 2 p.m. Dec. 1 in Ridout's Roebuck East Chapel, Birmingham, Ala. Burial will follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Birmingham. Visitation is 1 p.m. until time of services Dec. 1. Gooch Funeral Home of Rockville is handling local arrangements.
Mabel S. Lindley
BLOOMINGDALE - Mabel S. Lindley, 96, of Bloomingdale died at 7:55 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, in the Skilled Care Unit of Vermillion Convalescent Center in Clinton. She was a former clerk of Coffin's Store in Bloomingdale and was a seamstress. She was born Aug. 6, 1905, in Paitesville to Burt Snow and Sarah Short Snow. She was preceded in death in 1969 by her husband, Clyde D. Lindley, whom she married
in 1942; two brothers and one sister. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Mary C. and William L. Jeffers of Bloomingdale; two grandchildren, Cathy Brook of Tangier and William C. Jeffers of Bloomingdale; four great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was a 1922 graduate of Bridgeton High School and was a member of the Bloomingdale Friends Church and Women's Organization and a 50-year member of Hedges Chapter No. 51 Order of the Eastern Star. Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Barnes Mortuary in Rockville with the Rev. Darlene Newby officiating. Burial will follow in Bloomingdale cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today with an Eastern Star memorial service at 7 p.m.
Kathryn "Kay' Mansinne
CLINTON - Kathryn "Kay" Mansinne, 59, of Clinton died at 7 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at her residence. She was born Oct. 18, 1942 to Santo Mansinne and Emma F. Riva Mansinne. Survivors include her mother, Emma F. Mansinne ; one brother, Harold Mansinne; one niece, one nephew, one great-niece and five great-nephews. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Karanovich Chapel with the Rev. Diane McCracken officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Leona M. Owen
Leona M. Owen, 93, of Greencastle and formerly of Poland, Ind., died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at The Waters in Greencastle. She was born Feb. 1, 1908 in Omaha, Neb., to Frank May and Maggie Bulier May. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Wesley Owen, on July 28, 1966. Survivors include her caregivers, Faye George, Tracy George and Kim George. Graveside services are at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cloverdale cemetery with the Rev. John Nees officiating. There will be no visitation. Whitaker Funeral Home in Cloverdale handled arrangements.
Lloyd Stanley
SULLIVAN - Lloyd Stanley, 72, of Vincennes and formerly of Sullivan died at 10 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, in his residence. He was born Aug. 18, 1929 in Sullivan County to Roy Stanley and Vina Ransford Stanley. His wife, Janet Shake Stanley, preceded him in death in 1987. Survivors include one son, Mark Stanley; one daughter, Marti Stanley; three sisters, Galeda Anderson, Freda Exline and Aretha Walters; and three grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Banks & Brust Funeral Home with the Rev. David Cox officiating. Burial with military rites by Hymera-Shelburn-Sullivan American Legion posts will follow in Center Ridge cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Malcolm L. "Mike' Steward
LINTON - Malcolm L. "Mike" Steward, 84, of Linton died at 4 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at the Lyons Health and Living Center. He was born May 13, 1917, to Charles Edwin Steward and Cora Ann Speaker Steward. His first wife, Pauline Hamilton, preceded him in death on Feb. 10, 1962. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Geneva Ramsey Steward; three daughters, Marsha Marie Silvers, Jennie Sue Fainot and Paula Jayne Hawkins; and three sons, Mark Edwin Steward, Michael Wayne Steward and Melvin Lowell Steward. Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton with the Rev. John Monroe officiating. Burial will follow at Worthington cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today and 11 a.m. until services Sunday.
Donwood Stockrahm
JASONVILLE - Donwood Stockrahm, 88, of Jasonville died at 4:37 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001 at the Greene County General Hospital in Linton. He was born Nov. 17, 1913, in Vicksburg to Sam Stockrahm and Nellie McClung Stockrahm. His wife, Lela Lucille Bartlett Stockrahm, died June 22, 1999. Survivors include three daughters, MarilynDorman Clark, Donetta Shipman and Carol Beth Waltz; one sister, Mela Lou Hays, 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Services are 2 p.m. Monday at the Welch & Cornett Linton Chapel with the Rev. Charles Rodgers officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview cemetery in Linton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from noon until services Monday.
