Martha J. Pipes

Martha J. Pipes, 75, of Terre Haute, died at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2003, in Davis Gardens Health Care Center. She was a retired registered nurse. She was born April 16, 1928, in Terre Haute to Lester Duncan and Florence Wagnor Duncan. Survivors include her husband, Gareth E. Pipes; one son, Douglas E. Pipes and his wife, Connie; one sister, Pat Gambill; one grandson, Christopher Pipes, a senior at the University of Kentucky; one granddaughter, Ashley Pipes, a sophomore at Butler University, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a stepmother, Edith Duncan; one sister, Helen Smith, and one niece, Lynn Turner. She was the former director of medical surgery ward in Union Hospital, and a graduate of Union Hospital's School of Nursing. She was a member of Lawton Street Christian Church in Jasonville, Order of Eastern Star in Jasonville and Tri Kappa Chapter in Jasonville. Services are 11 a.m., Saturday in the DeBaun Springhill Chapel with the Rev. Mark Messmer officiating. Burial is in Farmersburg West Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Lawton Street Christian Church in Jasonville or charity of choice. Envelopes available at DeBaun's.

Helen Rose Waggoner

Helen Rose Waggoner, 70, of Terre Haute, died Sunday, July 27, 2003, in Royal Oaks Nursing Home. She was a retired teacher at several schools, including Lange and Wabash schools. She was born in Terre Haute, May 6, 1933, to Bert Waggoner and Selda Johnson Waggoner. Survivors include one sister, Mary Jane Layman; one brother, James Waggoner; five nieces, Mary Slater, Cheryl Bacon, Teresa Schmid, Winny Stricker and Dorothy Waggoner; two nephews, Richard Kupferer and Donald Waggoner; three great-nieces, five great-nephews; three great great-nieces and three great-great-nephews. She was a member of Maplewood Christian Church, Vigo County Teachers Association and Mature Singles Club. Services are 11 a.m. Friday in Thomas Funeral Home with the Rev. Craig Wininger officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today.

John R. Hollingsworth

CLINTON - John R. Hollingsworth, 77, a lifetime resident of Vermillion County, died at 5:40 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2003, in Royal Oaks Health Care Facility in Terre Haute. He retired from Columbia House in 1990. He was born March 23, 1926, in Boglesville to James Hollingsworth and Mary Griffin Hollingsworth. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Craft Hollingsworth; one son, John L. Hollingsworth of San Antonio; two daughters, Jeanne McLeish of Mooresville, and Joanne Bennett of Indianapolis; one brother, Paul Hollingsworth of Clinton; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two nieces and three nephews. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Cremation is scheduled. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Nature Conservancy, 1505 N. Delaware St., Suite 200, Indianapolis, IN 46202. Frist Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Ralph E. Wegner

CORY - Ralph E. Wegner, 63, of Cory, died at 9:05 a.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2003, in Union Hospital after an extended illness. He was an assistant mail carrier in Brazil and later worked 24 years for Bemis Co. Inc., retiring in 1994 because of health problems. He was born Nov. 16, 1939, in Clay County to Richard Allen Wegner and Bernice A. Fretz Wegner. Survivors include his wife, Mary Anne Wright, whom he married Oct. 7, 1967; his mother, Bernice Wegner of Brazil; one son, Anthony Edwin Wegner and his wife, Bryanna of Terre Haute; one granddaughter, Alexandra Taylor Hughes; one sister, Delores Haddon and her husband, Roy of Reelsville; three sisters-in-law, Jean Wegner of Cincinnati, Wanda Caton and her husband, Jerry of Cory, and Mary Lou Sullivan; several nieces and nephews, great- and great-great-nieces and nephews and other extended family members. He was preceded by his father; one brother, Richard Warren Wegner, a brother-in-law Robert Simpson and his wife, Patsy. He graduated from Brazil High School in 1958. He was a member of the Cory United Methodist Church and served as a trustee and in other church capacities. He was a former Tractor Club leader. Services are 1 p.m. Friday in French Funeral Home with the Revs. Owen Youngblood and Anthony Ferrell officiating. Burial is in Cory Zion cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today and Friday before services.

Dorothy B. Armstrong

Dorothy B. Armstrong, 95, of Terre Haute died at 9:05 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, in Meadows Manor East. She was a school teacher and was retired from Meadows Manor East as a bookkeeper. She was born Feb. 4, 1906, in Darlington to Clyde Binford and Cora Long Binford. Her husband, Howard G. Armstrong, preceded her in death April 8, 1969. Survivors include one son, Dan A. Armstrong and his wife, Traci of Terre Haute; one sister, Nelda Carpenter of Crawfordsville; one grandson, Wesley Allen Armstrong; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, William and Helen Aitken of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of Central Christian Church, Badoura Temple 23 Daughters of the Nile, where she was a member of its Patrol Unit, and Terre Haute Chapter 43 Order of Eastern Star. She also had been a volunteer for the Meadowlarks and Meals on Wheels. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with the Rev. Lloyd V. Channels officiating. Musical selections will be by Nancee South Falber. Private burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Saturday. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Christian Church, 4950 E. Wabash Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47803.

Wilbur Keko

Wilbur Keko, 85, of Terre haute died at 2:55 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, in Union Hospital. He was born July 25, 1916, in Chicago to Louis Keko and Ann Keko. His wife, Joanne Powell Keko, died March 12, 1999. Survivors include one daughter, Susan Posey; one son, Randall Keko; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Cremation is scheduled. Memorial services are pending at DeBaun Springhill Chapel.

Fred L. Marts

Fred L. Marts, 81, of Terre Haute died at noon Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, in Union Hospital. He formerly worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and more recently retired as a die maker for the Wabash Fibre Box Co. He was born May 17, 1920, in Sullivan County to Forrest Wayne Marts and Fern Pittman Marts. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Fry Marts; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rosemary and Ward Hubbard and Patricia and Garry Woods, all of Terre Haute; four grandchildren, Brad Woods and his wife Lisa, Brian Woods, Courtney Hubbard and Anne Hubbard; three great-grandchildren, Kelsey Woods, Kaylee Woods and Hunter Woods; and several cousins. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European and African theaters. He was a member of Lawton Byrum Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home at 605 S. 25th St. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park, with military honors by VFW Post 972. Visitation is 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today.

Bessie L. Holloway Wigfall

Bessie L. Holloway Wigfall, 66, of Terre Haute died at 10:58 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, in Union Hospital's emergency room. She was the food administrator for Lighthouse Mission for 10 years. She was born Feb. 14, 1935, in Meridian, Miss., to Early Holloway and Gertrude McConnell Holloway. Her husband, John Wigfall, died October 1977. Survivors include two sons, Terrence Holloway and Vaughn Wilson and his wife, Sooki; three daughters, Catherine Holloway Thomas and her husband, Hollis, Rosie Holloway Phillips, and Monica Thompson; three brothers, Elmer Richard Holloway, Alvin Holloway and Charles Holloway; three sisters, Louise Norton, Delores Stanley and her husband, Alfred and Patricia Reese and her husband, Eddie; grandchildren, Autumn Thomas, Alexis Thomas, Aaron Thomas, Anthony Thomas, Damien Tyler, Michael Wilson, Carl Wilson, Special Wilson, Jeremy Phillips and Julius Taylor; and one great-granddaughter, Airamey Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Freddie Holloway. She was a member of Saints Home Church of God in Christ, where she was a missionary member and Mothers Board member. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday in Saints Home Church of God in Christ, with the Rev. Mark Blade officiating. Burial is in Grandview cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today in Russell Funeral Home Chapel.

J. Frank Robertson

J. Frank Robertson, 51, of Terre Haute died at 11:35 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001 in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was a truck driver for Underwood Trucking Co. He was born April 4, 1950, in Terre Haute to Neil A. Robertson and Myrtle Louise Foos Robertson. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Heckelsberg Robertson; two sons, Scott Robertson and his wife, Susie of Evansville and Shawn Robertson of Terre Haute; three brothers, the Rev. Byron K. Robertson and his wife, Donna of San Jose, Calif., David R. Robertson and his wife, Linda of Lenexa, Kan., and his twin brother, J. Fred Robertson and his wife, Sandra of Terre Haute; two sisters, Joretta M. Lowe and Judith A. Kraemer and her husband, Orval L., all of Terre Haute; four grandchildren, Sydney Carter, Laura Robertson, Quinn Robertson and Owen Robertson; one brother-in-law, William E. Heckelsberg and his wife, Kay of Bowling Green; two uncles, Billy Joe Robertson and his wife, Annabell of Newport and J. Frank Foos and his wife, Verna of Linden, Mich.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a graduate of Wiley High School and was a volunteer firefighter for the Fontanet Fire Department. Services are 4 p.m. Saturday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with the Rev. Byron K. Robertson officiating. Cremation is scheduled with private disposition at a later date. Visitation is 2 p.m. until services Saturday. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 850 N. Meridian St., Suite 203, Indianapolis, IN 46204.

Roland Francis "Ron' Trombley

Roland Francis "Ron' Trombley, 58, of Salem Mo., and formerly of Terre Haute died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001. He was born Aug. 15, 1943, in Trenton, Mich., to Charles Lewis Trombley and Ardis Trombley. Survivors include his wife, Lula Bell Bratcher Trombley; two sons, Bradley Trombley and Randy Trombley; one daughter, Helania Chase; his mother; seven brothers, Louis Trombley, David Trombley, Leonard Trombley, Lawrence Trombley, Charlie Trombley, Terrance Trombley and Ralph Trombley; one sister, Sherry Ham; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services were Nov. 26, 2001, in Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Burial was in American Legion Plot of Cedar Grove cemetery in Salem, with full military honors.

Leona Annabell Creager

LINTON - Leona Annabell Creager, 83, of Linton died at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, in Glenburn Home. She was born March 9, 1918, in Vigo County to William Clements and Bonnie Correll Clements. Survivors include her husband, Clarence Creager; two sons, Ronald D. Creager and Darrell E. Creager; one daughter, Marsha Kay Brown; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services are 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Otterbein Church, with the Rev. John Monroe officiating. Burial is in Fairview cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 9 p.m. today and after 1:30 p.m. Saturday, in the church.

Thelma K. Ferree

LINTON - Thelma K. Ferree, 91, of Linton died at 12:55 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, in Glenburn Home. She was born Sept. 19, 1910, in Corydon to George Kraft and Katherine Buse Kraft. Her husband, Albert E. Ferree, died Aug. 22, 1981. Survivors include two daughters, Lois Gaunnac Ammell and Sarah "Sally" Baize; eight sons, Gilbert R. Ferree, Ronald E. Ferree, Franklin D. Ferree, Robert T. Ferree, Delbert L. Ferree, Dennis C. Ferree, John T. Ferree and George E. Ferree; one brother, Orville Kraft; one sister, Isabella Carwile; 35 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday in Olive Branch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Myron Young officiating. Burial is in Olive Branch cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 9 p.m. today in Welch & Cornett Linton Chapel and after 9 a.m. Saturday, in the church.

Leah Winona Lewis

MONTEZUMA - Leah Winona Lewis, 102, of Rockville and formerly of Montezuma died at 9:28 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in Walnut Creek at Rockville. She was born July 5, 1899, in Montezuma to John W. Coffin and Martha Swindle Coffin. Her husband, Elisha Lewis, died March 17, 1956. Survivors include two nephews, John Adams and Warren Adams; and one niece, Martha Pankall. Services are 2 p.m. Monday in Brown Funeral Home, with the Rev. Leon Myers officiating. Burial is in Oakland cemetery. Visitation is 1 p.m. until services Monday.
