John 'Dave' Yoder
LINTON - John "Dave" Yoder, 53, of Linton died Sunday, June 23, 2002, in his residence. He was born Oct. 31, 1948, in Linton to John Lloyd Yoder and Vera Ruth Ladson Yoder. Survivors include two sons, Nickolas David Yoder and John Yoder; one daughter, Wendy Ickes; two sisters, Nancy Moss and Ruth Lacey; one brother, Bill Yoder; and five grandchildren. Services are 1 p.m. Thursday in Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel with Randy Raney officiating. Burial is in Fairview cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today.
Debra D. Smith Ausman
Debra D. Smith Ausman, 43, of Terre Haute died at 1:25 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2002, in Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. She was formerly employed at Data Label Inc. She was born Jan. 14, 1959, in Terre Haute to Robert R. Smith and Betty L. Ambs Smith. Survivors include her mother, Betty L. Smith of Terre Haute; one sister, Penny S. Hollifield of Terre Haute; two brothers, Robert R. Von Gruenigen of Denver and Gerald L. Von Gruenigen of Phoenix; one half brother, Timothy Smith of Phoenix; one half sister, Penny Ledbetter of Phoenix; five nephews, David Ledbetter and Robert Ledbetter, both of Phoenix, Michael Hollifield of Columbus, Jerry Von Gruenigen of New Virginia, Iowa, and Matthew Hollifield of Terre Haute; two nieces, Michelle Johnson of Terre Haute and Anne Von Gruenigen of Chicago; a close friend, Frank Leuteritz; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her father. She attended Terre Haute Christian School. Services are 1 p.m. Friday in the Callahan Funeral Home, with the Rev. Scott Coombes officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.
Margaret Mitchell Beecher
Margaret Mitchell Beecher, 83, of Danville, Pa., and formerly of Terre Haute died Monday, July 29, 2002, following a difficult battle with Alzheimer's disease. She had moved to Georgia in 1994, then to Pennsylvania in 1995, because of her health. She was born Nov. 19, 1918, in Tulsa, Okla., to Dr. Waldo F. Mitchell and Gladys Rippetoe Mitchell. Survivors include two daughters, Roberta "Bobbi" Brown of Milton, Pa., and Elizabeth "Libby" Schultz of Broomfield, Colo.; two brothers, Howard W. Mitchell of Richmond, Calif., and David C. Mitchell of Terre Haute; one sister, Roberta K. Deagan of Lafayette; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Chief Warrant Officer Quentin R. Beecher of the Army 1st Air Cavalry Division in 1967. She moved with her family to Terre Haute in 1931, graduated from Indiana State Teachers College Training School, and received her bachelor of arts degree in English from Indiana State Teachers College, where she was active in Sycamore Players and Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She was a member of Woman's Department Club, where she established the cotillion; was a board member of Florence Crittenton Home; a board member of Terre Haute Symphony, writing its publicity articles; was involved with "First Nighters" of Community Theatre; was a founder of Housewives Efforts for Local Progress, where she held several positions, including president; and was a friend to and docent for the Sisters of Providence at Karcher Hall of St. Mary-of-the-Woods College. She also served as state coordinator and representative for Indiana in the National League of Families for Vietnam POW-MIA. Cremation is by Brady Funeral Home in Danville, Pa., with Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Graveside memorial services in Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute will be at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Quentin R. Eleanor R. Curry
Eleanor R. Curry, 91, of Franklin and formerly of New Goshen, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin. Her husband, Dr. Delmar D. Curry, preceded her in death. She is survived by one sister, Evelyn E. Hinshaw Cronk; one niece; and one nephew. There are no services or visitation. Burial is in Washington Park East cemetery, in Indianapolis. Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center in Washington Park East, Indianapolis, assisted with arrangements.
Mary M. Gray Meadlo
Mary M. Gray Meadlo, 84, of Terre Haute died at 7:35 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2002, in Harborside Healthcare. She was born June 12, 1918, in Vigo County to Paul Gray and Mary Gochen Gray. Her husband, Andy Meadlo, died in 1958. Survivors include one daughter, Larka-Lee Kern. There are no services or visitation. Cremation is scheduled, with burial to follow in Calvary cemetery. Mattox-Wood Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
Leora I. Pierce
Leora I. Pierce, 77, of Terre Haute died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in Union Hospital. She was a clerk for Midwest Supply Electronics for 20 years. She was born Aug. 16, 1924, in Terre Haute to Edgar W. Bonee Sr. and Molly R. Titus Bonee. Survivors include one son, David Pierce and his wife, Connie of Terre Haute; one daughter, Shirley Sparks and her husband, John of Terre Haute; one brother, Edgar Bonee Jr. and his wife, Helen of Flint, Mich.; one sister, Betty Holloway of Terre Haute; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters. She was a member of American Legion Post 104 Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 Auxiliary and Destroyer Escort Sailors Association. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday in Roselawn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Carr officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday. The family suggests, that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Violet Irene Travioli
Violet Irene Travioli, 79, of West Terre Haute died at 5:10 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2002, in Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She retired as a nurse's aide from Union Hospital after 25 years of service. She was born Feb. 2, 1923, in Vigo County to Harold Orndorff and Julia Lindsey Orndorff. Her husband, Asel O. Travioli, whom she married
May 12, 1940, in West Terre Haute, died July 25, 1972. Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Rose Holdeman and her husband Charles of Denham Springs, La., Maridee Elaine Livvix and special friend Mike Brown of St. Bernice, and Serena Dawn Foltz and special friend Allen Pennel of Shepardsville; two sons, Asel Dean Travioli and his wife Christine of Terre Haute and Harold Otto "Rusty" Travioli and his wife Edith of West Terre Haute; one sister, Rose June Perisho and her husband Dean of Marshall, Ill.; one sister-in-law, Gwen Orndorff of West Terre Haute; 14 grandchildren, Dixiana Trosclair, Wade Edward Holdeman, Emile Joseph Holdeman and Georgiana Marie Thornton, all of Louisiana; Lynn Elizabeth Pruitt of Terre Haute, Stephen Dean Travioli of Largo, Fla., Marticia Ann Shipp and Heather Irene Andrews, both of Conroe, Texas, Clytine Rose Klooz and Jerri Lynn Haynes, both of Dennison, Ill., Harold Otto Travioli Jr., Tony Eugene Asel Travioli, Aurella Dawn Travioli and Brooke Michele Foltz, all of West Terre Haute; 27 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Harold "Bill" Plew. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Orndorff. She previously attended Wesleyan Methodist Church in West Terre Haute. Services are 2 p.m. today in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home, with Max Hewitt officiating. Burial is in Livingston (Ill.) cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the charity of donor's choice.
Lora Lee Henico
JASONVILLE - Lora Lee Henico, 72, of Jasonville, died at 10:25 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born Oct. 9, 1929, in Clay County to Glenn E. Allen and Pearl Mahan Allen. Her husband, Robert Henico, died Jan. 13, 1993. Survivors include one daughter, Christina Sue Keller; one son, Robert D. Henico; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two aunts; one uncle; and several nieces and nephews.. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday in McClanahan-Lee Funeral Home. Burial is in K of P cemetery in Hymera. Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until services Saturday.
Gene Raymond Hobbs
BRAZIL - Gene Raymond Hobbs, 65, of Brazil died at 7 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He worked as an electrician for LTV Steel, retiring in 1987. He was born Nov. 19, 1936, in Hammond to Charles Hobbs and Veva Scott Hobbs. He is survived by his mother of Crawfordsville; his wife, Genola Scott Hobbs of Brazil, whom he married
May 26, 1956; one daughter and son-in-law, Crystal and Tom Cooper, Spanaway, Wash.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Martin Hobbs and wife, Robin and Brian Hobbs and wife, April, all of Brazil; six grandchildren, Aubrey Hobbs, Anna Hobbs, Alysa Hobbs, Austin Hobbs and Aaron Hobbs, all of Brazil, and Caylen Cooper of Spanaway; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Rita Bushong and husband, Roy and Marcella Johnson and husband, Herman, all of Crawfordsville; and one brother and sister-in-law, Steve Hobbs and wife, Loretta of Terre Haute. He was raised in the Crawfordsville area, graduated from Crawfordsville High School, and later returned to the Hammond area to work in the steel mills. He also was a licensed Realtor, was baptized in June 1953 as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, and served as an elder in the Harmony-Brazil congregation. At his request, cremation will take place with a memorial service at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Brazil. Visitation with the family will be from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Kingdom Hall. French Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
Ann Mary Boyd
Ann Mary Boyd, 89, of Terre Haute died at 8:50 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, in Union Hospital. She was born Nov. 27, 1912, in Chicago to Charles Adamec and Julia Kmotorka Adamec. Her husband, Dr. H. Clark Boyd, died Sept. 4, 1997. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia Boyd Gaughan, a graduate of St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, and her husband, John "Jack" Gaughan, a graduate of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, of Frederick, Md., and Catherine Boyd Frailing, a graduate of St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and Indiana University School of Graduate Studies, and her husband, L. G. Frailing, retired Colonel from the U.S. Army and graduate of Purdue University, of Melbourne, Fla.; two grandchildren, John Gaughan of Ponte Vedre, Fla., and Elizabeth Gaughan Brown of Potomac, Md.; four great-grandchildren, Jenna Gaughan, Natalie Gaughan, Jessica Brown and Katherine Brown; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by one sister, Melanie Tozer. She was a graduate of the University of Michigan and a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. She was an active volunteer in the Terre Haute community having worked with Meals on Wheels, Vigo County Medical Alliance and Girl Scouts. She also served on the board of directors of the Terre Haute Symphony and Visiting Nurse Association and was a life member of the Swope Art Museum. She also was a member of the Country Club of Terre Haute, Vigo County Historical Society and was past president of St. Anthony's Hospital Guild. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ron Ashmore officiating. Burial is in Calvary cemetery. There is no visitation. John W. Dupin Sr.
John W. Dupin Sr., 77, of Terre Haute, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at his residence. He was a factory worker at American Vitrified in Brazil and retired from Dever Distribution as a mechanic. He was born May 5, 1925, in Anchorage, Ky., to John Dupin and Goldie "Hall" Reisinger. His wife, Elsie M. Coleman, preceded him in death on Nov. 24, 1992. Survivors include two sons, John Dupin Jr. of Terre Haute and Jerry L. Dupin and wife, Becky of Brazil; two daughters, Rita J. Dupin of Seelyville and Marilyn R. Gammon and husband, Ron of Terre Haute; two sisters, Deloris Auterson and husband, Oscar of Prairieton, and Ann Morson of Terre Haute; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jack Reisinger; two infant sons, Jimmy Dupin and Mark Dupin; and his stepfather, Otis Reisinger. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of the Friendship Assembly of God. Private services and visitation are in Callahan Funeral Home with the Rev. James Palmer officiating. Burial is in Highland cemetery.
Sharon Darlane Garrett
Sharon Darlane Garrett, 56, of Midlothian, Va., and formerly of Terre Haute, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at her residence. She was born in Terre Haute to Victor Donner and Wanda Donner. Survivors include her husband, James R. Garrett; six children, Scott McMurray, Brian McMurray, Rhonda Barrett, Lisa Garrett, Stephanie Pittard and Chris Garrett; her mother; one brother, Jimmy Lee Donner; and seven grandchildren. Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday in Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel in Richmond, Va. Entombment is in Dale Memorial Park. Visitation is 5 to 8:30 p.m. today.
