Mary McDowell
WAKARUSA -- Mary McDowell, 93, of Miller's Merry Manor, formerly of C.R. 7, Goshen, died at 6 p.m. Tuesday (June 30, 2009) in Miller's Merry Manor.
She was born Oct. 6, 1915, in Goshen to Victor and Nola (Hartman) Schrock. On Oct. 29, 1938, she married
Argel McDowell in Goshen. He died Oct. 1, 1997.
Mrs. McDowell is survived by one daughter, Linda S. Holderman of Hebron, Ohio; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marjorie Sechrist of Goshen.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Guy and Norman Schrock.
Mrs. McDowell was a member of Yellow Creek Church of the Brethren and had volunteered at The Depot. She had worked as a clerk for G.L. Perry and had assisted her husband with their auction service.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, 117 W. Waterford St., Wakarusa, where a 10 a.m. funeral service will take place on Saturday. The Rev. Mark Bendes of Yellow Creek Church of the Brethren will officiate. Burial will be in Yellow Creek cemetery.
Olga S. Gouin
Jan. 8, 1922-July 1, 2009
Olga S. Gouin, 87, 1801 Greencroft Blvd., Goshen, died Wednesday at 9:32 p.m. at Greencroft Healthcare. She had been in failing health for the past five years.
She was born Jan. 8, 1922, in Wilno, Poland, to Alexander and Maria (Pedajova) Mahony.
She married
Roland A. Gouin May 5, 1959. He survives.
Also surviving are her daughter, Liliane Maria Welty, Atlanta, Ga.; three sons, Daniel (Judy) Martinsky, Elkhart, Michel (Monique) Martinsky, Pontaul Gombaul, France, and Marc (Georgia) Gouin, Goshen; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and close family member, Daniele McDonald, Goshen;
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Nicholas Mahony; and a sister, Anastasia Serikow.
She worked as a nurses aid for the Red Cross in Europe during World War II. She worked for Kodak in France and in final finish and inspection for Starcraft after her arrival in the United States in 1969. She became a homemaker after marriage. She was a member of the Holy Virgin Protection Orthodox Church, Goshen.
Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, Goshen, where a prayer service will take place at 5 p.m.
The funeral service will begin at 9 a.m. Monday at the Holy Virgin Protection Orthodox Church, Goshen. The Rev. Daniel Marshall of the church will lead the service.
Burial will be in Violett cemetery, Goshen.
Memorials may be made to the Holy Virgin Protection Orthodox Church, Goshen.
Maxine Miller
GOSHEN -- Maxine Miller, of Spring Brooke Drive, Goshen, died at 3:15 a.m. Saturday (July 4, 2009) at Greencroft Healthcare.
She was born Aug. 1, 1930, in Shipshewana to Tobias T. and Sarah (Lambright) Schrock. On June 15, 1952, at Shore Mennonite Church, she married
John K. Miller. He died Aug. 18, 1994.
Mrs. Miller is survived by one son, Michael (Dallis) Miller of Union, Mich.; one daughter, Suzanne (Paul) Yoder of Prescott, Ariz.; five grandchildren; one brother, Walter (Jeannie) Schrock of Shipshewana; and one sister-in-law, Marie Miller of New Castle, Pa..
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter.
Mrs. Miller worked as a teacher at Wakarusa Elementary School for 26 years. She was a member of College Mennonite Church, the National Education Association, the Indiana State Teachers Association, Progressive Homemakers of Wakarusa and the American Association of University Women. She volunteered at The Depot, Goshen General Hospital, Meals on Wheels, College Mennonite Church and Ten Thousand Villages and was a literacy tutor.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at College Mennonite Church. A memorial service will be held there at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Klaudia Smucker will officiate. Burial will be at Violett cemetery. Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorials may be given to the church or Goshen College.
Dean Lewis Ernest Sr.
GOSHEN -- Dean Lewis Ernest Sr., 87, of Goshen, died Monday (June 22, 2009) in his home.
He was born June 9, 1922, in Goshen to Ralph Waldo and LaVerne (Day) Ernest. On June 9, 1942, he married
Doris Maxine Mansfield in Elkhart. She died Feb. 8, 2008.
Surviving are four daughters, Rebecca (Duane) Tepe, Linda Crossman, Mary Bachert and Joyce (Harold "Turk") Hargrove, all of Goshen; three sons, Dean "Louie" (Rose Mary) Ernest of Powers, Mich., John (Cindy) Ernest of Mishawaka and Kenneth Ernest of Goshen; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Mark Crossman, and three siblings, Anna Horton and George Wayne and Dale Eugene Ernest.
Mr. Ernest was a retired farmer and contractor who graduated in 1941 from Concord High School. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and attended Sugar Grove Church.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Pastor Rick Gering of Sugar Grove Church will officiate. Burial will be in Sugar Grove cemetery.

Derek Beam
May 5, 1976 -June 9, 2009
WEEKI WACHEE, Fla. - Derek Anthony Demetrius, 33, died June 9.
He was born in Anchorage, Alaska and moved 16 years ago to Weeki Wachee.
Professionally, he worked to raise money for the Hernando County, Fla. and Pasco County, Fla., police and firefighters.
He was a parishioner of St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Spring Hill, Fla., and an altar boy for St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Goshen, Ind., when he was in grade school attending St. John's Catholic School.
As a dedicated fisherman since his early youth, he was an avid freshwater angler, but his love of easy-access roadside canal fishing compelled him to spend much of his leisure time saltwater fishing in every spot imaginable from Hernando Beach, Fla., to Holiday, Fla. for the last 16 years.
He is survived by his mother and father, W. Marie Beam and Raymond R. Beam, Weeki Wachee; and his brother, Yuri Beam, Tampa, Fla.
A graveside service will take place Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Oakridge cemetery, Goshen, Ind. Father Chris Smith of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church will officiate.
Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen, Ind., is in charge of arrangements.
Margaret May Peters
May 30, 1927-June 28, 2009
NEW PARIS - Margaret May Peters, 82, 20078 Regina Road, died Sunday at 10:35 p.m. at Greencroft Healthcare.
She married
Charles Peters July 12, 1946, in Syracuse. He died April 1, 2006.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah (William) Preston, New Paris.
There are no services or visitation scheduled. Burial will be in New Paris cemetery.

Jeffery Scott Swinehart
April 22, 1972-June 13, 2009
MILLERSBURG - Jeffery Scott Swinehart, 37, C.R. 46, died Saturday at 6:05 p.m. at his residence after a year-and-a-half battle with cancer.
He was born April 22, 1972, to Tony L. and Connie (Wagner) Swinehart in Goshen.
He married
Carolyn Aust on July 31, 1993. He later married
Cindy Miller on June 25, 2004.
He worked at Keystone RV for the past five years.
He is survived by his wife; his mother; sons Josh and Dylan Swinehart, both at home, and Michael Aust, Fort Knox, Ky.; sisters Stacie (Keith) Kiser, Kimmell, and Lori (Warren VanNess) Yoder, Millersburg; brother Scott (Kelly) Swinehart, New Paris; stepdaughters Reagan Nyce, DeeAnn Whitehead and Samantha Whitehead; stepsons Dustin and Matthew Whitehead; and six step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, Goshen, where a funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Dave Hackney of New Paris Missionary Church will lead the service.
Burial will be in Brown cemetery, Millersburg.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Center for Cancer Care at Goshen General Hospital.
Linda L. Wagoner
June 1, 1955-June 15, 2009
ELKHART - Linda L. Wagoner, 54, C.R. 26, died Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Elkhart General Hospital.
She married
William G. Wagoner June 13, 1975. He survives.
Also surviving are her mother, Bessie Wenger, Elkhart; daughter, Amy R. Wagoner, Elkhart; and a son, Brian D. Wagoner, Mishawaka.
Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, Wakarusa, and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service Thursday at Bible Baptist Church, Wakarusa.
Burial will be in Olive East cemetery.
Terry Miller
45 years old
Of College av Goshen, died Thursday, June 18, 2009 at the South Bend Memorial Hospital after complications from hip surgery.
Visitation will be 2 - 8 pm Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, 117 West Waterfor Street, Wakarusa, Indiana 46573.
Funeral Services will be Sunday at 10 am at the Old German Baptist Brethren Church, Goshen.
Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
