Willowdean A. Gerber

MISHAWAKA -- Willowdean A. Gerber, 83, of New Road, died at 1 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 27, 2009) at Hospice House, South Bend.

She was born Aug. 28, 1925, in Wakarusa to Edgar and Fern (Secor) High. On Aug. 7, 1948, she married Dr. Wayne Gerber in Wakarusa.

He survives along with two sons, Jim (Bonnie) Gerber of Mishawaka and Dan (Karen) Gerber of Granger; one daughter, Hope Olson of Mishawaka; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Leota (John) Ecklebarger of New Paris.

One grandson, Christopher Gerber, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Gerber was a 1943 graduate of Wakarusa High School, received her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Goshen College and received her master's degree in early childhood education from Ball State University. She was a teacher and professor of early childhood development at Indiana University South Bend and Bethel College. She was a member of Beulah Missionary Church.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, 117 W. Waterford St., Wakarusa. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Olive (West) cemetery. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Beulah Missionary Church. Dr. Albert Beutler, assisted by Pastor Jack McGlasson, will officiate.

Memorials may be given to Bethel College.

R. Jackie VanEtten
Aug. 24, 1943-Oct. 4, 2009

ELKHART - R. Jackie VanEtten, 66, Lantz Boulevard, died at 1:35 a.m. Sunday at Elkhart Rehabilitation Center.

She married Robert VanEtten Dec. 31, 1966, in Elkhart. He died May 7, 1994.

She is survived by three sons, Terry Dewayne (Connie) Hill and David Blaine (Marcie) Hill, both of Elkhart, and Robert VanEtten Jr., Oklahoma City, Okla.

Visitation is set for 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m Wednesday at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, Wakarusa. The funeral service is scheduled at noon Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Olive (East) cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to American Cancer Society.

M. Jean Crist

GOSHEN -- M. Jean Crist, 79, of Maple Leaf Commons, died at 8:56 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 15, 2009) in The Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Elkhart Hospice House.

She was born Dec. 11, 1928, in Elkhart to John U. and J. Ruth (Huffman) Crist. She was preceded in death by two siblings, Mary Irene and David H. Crist.

She is survived by two brothers, Carl J. (Julianne) Crist of Wakarusa and Dale E. Crist of Goshen.

Miss Crist taught elementary music at Concord School from 1957 to 1959 and was a missionary who taught school at Hilcrest in Nigeria for 10 years, was director-ministry of music at Vineland Missionary Church, Ontario, and had worked at Missionary Church Inc. from 1987 to 1994. She was a member of Liberty Community Church, Goshen.

She an organist and secretary at the church, and a piano teacher who played music at weddings. She graduated from Elkhart High School in 1948 and from Bethel College in 1952.

Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen, where the funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Mo Vincic will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Street cemetery, Elkhart.

Memorials may be given to Liberty Community Church, Goshen.

Doris E. Wagner

NEW PARIS -- Doris E. Wagner, 82, of 69618 C.R. 27, died at 11:42 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 15, 2009) in Elkhart General Hospital.

She was born Nov. 1, 1926, in Kosciusko County to Guy and Susie (Hoffer) Hall. On Nov. 22, 1944, she married Kenneth "LaMar" Wagner at Fort Riley, Kan. He died Aug. 1, 2005.

Mrs. Wagner is survived by one son, Cork (Jan) Wagner of New Paris; four daughters, Connie (Tony) Swinehart of Millersburg, Rita (Obie) Overholser of New Paris, Gail (John) Searfoss of Syracuse and Penny (Martin) Stroup of Bristol; nine grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, LaFerne (Gene) Kieffer of Elk Horn, Wis., and Mary A. (Devon) Hartzell of Nappanee; and three brothers, Donovan (Martha) Hall of Tulsa, Okla., Herman (Doris) Hall of Goshen and Lyle (Carol) Hall of Bremen.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Jeffery Swinehart and Russel Stroup; and three brothers, Glenor, Dewey and Richard Hall.

Mrs. Weaver was a homemaker and member of New Paris Missionary Church . She was a 1944 graduate of Nappanee High School.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen, and one hour prior to Wednesday's 10 a.m. funeral service at New Paris Missionary Church. Pastors David Hackney and Venus Arnold will officiate. Burial will be in Union Center cemetery near Nappanee.

Memorials may be given to the church, The Center for Cancer Care, Goshen General Hospital or the Russel Stroup Scholarship Fund.

L. Richard Hoover
Feb. 4, 1951 - Aug. 14, 2009

ELKHART -- L. Richard Hoover, 58, of 2600 Morehouse Ave., died at 2:30 a.m. Friday (Aug. 14, 2009) in Elkhart Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Feb. 4, 1951, in Elkhart County to Lowell W. and Velorous (Shaum) Hoover, who survive in Goshen, along with Mr. Hoover's four sisters, LaVonda Hoover of Anaheim, Calif., Karen Hoover of Detroit, Phyllis (Terry) Scanlon of Elyria, Ohio, and Jean (Louis) Cheng of Charlottesville, Va.; and one brother, Howard (Mary) Hoover of Mio, Mich.

Mr. Hoover was a cross-country truck driver and a 1969 graduate of Bethany High School.

There will be no visitation or funeral service. Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen, is assisting with arrangements.

Ruth R. Houston
July 19, 1912 - Aug. 5, 2009

GOSHEN -- Ruth R. Houston, 97, of 1212 Waterford Crossing Circle, died at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 5, 2009) in The Maples.

She was born July 19, 1912, in Elkhart County to Louis and Rosa (Billett) Cripe. On Dec. 22, 1942, she married James A. Houston in Goshen. He died March 18, 1999.

Mrs. Houston is survived by two daughters, Eilene (Rick) Wooten of Queen Creek, Ariz., and Bonnie (Lee) Kurtz of Dewart Lake; one son, Jimmie J. (Lynne) Houston of New Paris; one stepdaughter, Elizabeth (Wayne) Blough of Edwardsburg, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by eight siblings, Alvin, Elwood, Clayton and Cleo Cripe, Viola Swihart, Mary Beron, Irene Stone and Lena Hoagland.

Mrs. Houston was a homemaker and member of New Paris Church of the Brethren.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen, and one hour prior to Saturday's 10 a.m. funeral service at New Paris Church of the Brethren. Pastor Stan Godfrey will officiate. Burial will be in New Paris cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the church.

Geraldine Lambert

WAKARUSA -- Geraldine Lambert, 80, a lifetime resident of Wakarusa, died at 5:50 p.m. Sunday (July 12, 2009) in her home.

She was born May 13, 1929, in Wakarusa to Mervin and Inez (Smeltzer) Strycker. On May 21, 1946, she married Cloise D. Lambert. He died Dec. 8, 2006.

Mrs. Lambert is survived by one daughter, Marcia Lyons of Elkhart; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, June Harter of Wakarusa; and two brothers, Mervin Strycker of Wakarusa and Larry Strycker of Mishawaka.

She was preceded in death by one son, Steven Lambert; and four siblings, Pauline, Dale, Lowell and LaMar Strycker.

Mrs. Lambert had worked at the Wakarusa Post Office, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Wakarusa.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, 117 W. Waterford St., Wakarusa, where the funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday. Pastor David Harper of Bible Baptist Church, Wakarusa, will officiate. Burial will be in Olive (West) cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Boys & Girls Club.

Aleksandra Goncharova
April 22, 1924 - Aug. 1, 2009

GOSHEN -- Aleksandra Goncharova, 85, of Goshen, died Saturday (Aug. 1, 2009) in Goshen General Hospital.

She was born on April 22, 1924.

Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Oakridge cemetery in Goshen.

Roy L. Carpenter

MILLERSBURG -- Roy L. Carpenter, 80, of C.R. 42, died at 5:05 p.m. Wednesday (July 29, 2009) in his home.

He was born May 11, 1929, in Topeka to Adrian and Lizzie (Burns) Carpenter. On Nov. 8, 1958, he married Dorothy Hoshaw.

She survives along with twin sons, the Rev. Richard Carpenter of Fort Wayne and Ronald (Susan) Carpenter of Goshen; one daughter, Debra (David) Parcell of Goshen; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Treva Kintner of Kissimmee, Fla., Dorothy Huber, Ruth Myers and Carol (David) Garber, all of Goshen, and Sarah (Chuck) Nulf of San Diego.

She was preceded in death by six siblings, Josephine Detwiler, Mary Leer, Joy Wood and Willis "Bill, " Don and Bruce Carpenter.

Mr. Carpenter was a veteran of the Korean War and a farmer who had owned Carpenters Benton Mill. He attended Zion Chapel and was a 1947 graduate of Millersburg High School.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Zion Chapel, 17285 C.R. 34, Goshen, and one hour prior to the 3 p.m. funeral service Sunday at the church. The Revs. Steve Chupp and Don Mishler will officiate. Burial will be in Rock Run cemetery.

Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, Goshen, handled the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the church.

Michael E. Klase
April 10, 1955 - July 26, 2009

SYRACUSE -- Michael E. Klase, 54, of North Oak Street, died at 10:05 a.m. Sunday (July 26, 2009) at home.

He was born April 10, 1955, in Gohsen to Charles I. and Frances (Flazowski) Klase. On April 20, 2002, he married Susan Palmer in Syracuse. She died Jan. 25, 2004.

Mr. Klase is survived by two sons, Garret Nisley of Nappanee and Jon Eiermann of Goshen; his father of Goshen; one sister, Joanne Uplinger of Syracuse; and one brother, Mark Klase of Tucson.

His mother preceded him in death.

Mr. Klase was a surgical technician at Goshen General Hospital and had worked at Jayco. He graduated from Goshen High School in 1973, attended Michiana College and received his bachelor's degree in Miami, Fla. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

Friends may call Saturday from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. memorial service at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen. Pastor Lenny Krebs will officiate.

Memorials may be given to the Center for Cancer Care at Goshen Health Systems or Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice.

R. Keith Keim
Feb. 5, 1913 - July 18, 2009

GOSHEN -- R. Keith Keim, 96, of Greencroft Healthcare, formerly of Millersburg and Syracuse, died at 5:10 p.m. Saturday (July 18, 2009) in Greencroft Healthcare.

Born to John and Elva (Starks) Keim on Feb. 5, 1913, in Clinton Township, he married Zela Juday on July 10, 1938. She died Sept. 10, 2002.

Mr. Keim is survived by one daughter, Judy (Norman) Ross of Syracuse; one son, Richard (Marilee) Keim of Goshen; and one granddaughter.

Five siblings preceded him in death.

Mr. Keim was a rural letter carrier and had operated Keith's Plumbing & Heating and K-Z Laundromat, Millersburg, for many years. He worked at Easterday Construction Co., was instrumental in creating Fairfield School Corp. and was Clinton Township trustee in the 1960s.

Mr. Keim was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Millersburg; Mason, Ligonier; OES, Goshen; Scottish Rite; Shrine Club; and a founding member of the Millersburg Lions Club.

There will be no public viewing and a private burial will be in Brown cemetery, Millersburg. A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 26, 2009, in Brown cemetery.

Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen, is assisting with arrangements.

Memorials may be given to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Millersburg, or Fairfield Dollars for Scholars.
