Nancy Jaynes
Born on Jul. 5, 1954
passed away Mar. 27, 2008 and resided in Plymouth, IN.
Visitation: Friday, Apr. 4, 2008 & Saturday, Apr. 5, 2008
Service: Saturday, Apr. 5, 2008

Nancy E. Jaynes, age 53, of 932 South Angel Street, Plymouth, Indiana, passed away at 1:05 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2008, at home, surrounded by her family.

Nancy was born on July 5, 1954, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Lewis "Jack" and Ethel (Howard) Jaynes.

Nancy graduated from Ball State University, in Muncie, Indiana, and was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She was an inactive member of the Beta Delta Chapter of Tri Kappa, Plymouth, and a member of the Plymouth Wesleyan Church.

Nancy loved teaching high school, and had been a teacher in the Family and Consumer Sciences Department, for 30 years, at Plymouth High School, serving as Department Chair, for many of those years.

Nancy was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998. She was a tireless leader in the fight against breast cancer, volunteering countless hours to the cause, including speaking to groups across the state. In 2002, she founded the nonprofit organization, IBCAT (Indiana Breast Cancer Awareness Trust), and conceived Indiana's breast cancer specialty license plate, with the help of her friends.

She was a member of the Board of Directors of that trust. The specialty license plate is available through all branches of Indiana's Bureau of Motor Vehicles. All profits from the sale of the breast cancer license plate, promote education and awareness of breast cancer prevention, to the citizens in the State of Indiana. Since the inception of these plates, 30, 000 plates have been sold, $750, 000 in funds has generated, $450, 000 has been granted to the IBCAT Mission.

Nancy was selected to carry the Olympic Torch, in January 2004, running a short distance through the streets of Fort Wayne, Indiana, as it passed through Northern Indiana, on its way to Salt Lake City, Utah, for the XIX Olympic Winter Games.

Nancy's story, Dancing at Evan's Wedding, was published in the book, Chicken Soup for the Breast Cancer Survivor's Soul, in 2006.

Nancy loved her three boys, her family, her friends, her students, and God. She had a tremendous amount of faith that sustained her throughout her long journey through her cancer. Her loving smile lit up a room, and after meeting her, even once, you were a part of her tender and caring heart forever. She loved working on "projects" with her dad and learned a lot from him, as they worked side by side.

During her illness, her family and friends were right by her side, supporting her in any way they could. She was overwhelmed, and humbled, by the love, cards, prayers, and other ways people reached out to her, during her illness and treatments.

Nancy is survived by her devoted mother, Ethel Jaynes of Donaldson, Indiana; her sons, who were the love of her life, Chas Glaub and his girlfriend Monica of Newport Beach, California, Matthew Glaub and his fiancée Michelle and their daughter, Maggie of Plymouth, and Evan Glaub at home; her loving and caring brother, David and Mary Anne Jaynes of Indianapolis, Indiana; her special niece, Maria Jaynes of Indianapolis; and her special nephew, Daniel Jaynes of Indianapolis. Nancy also leaves behind many dear friends and of course her many, many, students, whose lives were touched in a positive way by having her as their teacher. She was preceded in death by her father, Lewis "Jack" Jaynes.
