John L. Speheger, 77, of 1537 Lake Avenue, Plymouth, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at 5:51 p.m. at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth Campus.
He was born on June 13, 1926 in Bluffton, Indiana to John and Inez (Slough) Speheger.
On April 29, 1950 John and Jean E. Pinney were married
in Plymouth. He moved to Plymouth in 1936 from Bourbon.
John worked for Sibley Foundry in South Bend and Whitley Products in Plymouth. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, and participated in action against the enemy in Okinawa, Ryukyu Island, and then in the occupation of China. John was wounded in action on the 18th of June, 1945. He was a member of the 6th Marine Division Association, DAV, CBI (China/ Burma India Theater), the Plymouth V.F.W. Post 1162 and the Plymouth Missionary Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; his sons, Benjamin (Laura) Speheger of Indianapolis and Bard Speheger of Plymouth; his sister, Ruth (Don) Chapin of Lagrange Park, Illinois; and his grandchildren Matthew, Aaron, Sarah, and Jamie.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 23, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, with Rev. George Swank and Rev. Pat Puglisi. A military service will be held by the V.F.W. Post 1162.
Friends may call Saturday, August 23, 2003 from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until the time of the service at Van Gilder Funeral Home.

Ruby Nell Lachat, 80, of 300 East Prairie Street, Warsaw, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2003 at 9:10 p.m. at Cambridge House in Warsaw, Indiana.
She was born on February 8, 1923 in to Henry and Hallie (Bobbitt) Hinton.
Ruby married
Franklin Arnold Lachat. He passed away in 1985.
She worked in the office of the U.A.W. regional office in Columbus, Ohio, where she lived for many years. For the past one and a half years, she lived in Warsaw.
She is survived by her daughter; Nancy (Daniel) Dettloff of Tippecanoe, Indiana, her sons; Leon (Diana) Lachat of Ohio and Dr. Jerry (Paula) Lachat of Florida, a sister; Donna McCallan of Georgia, her brothers; Joseph (Wanda) Hinton of Florida and Neil (Bibb) Hinton of Ohio. Also surviving are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter; Mary Elizabeth and two brothers; Ralph and Edgar.
Memorial services will be held on August 30, 2003 in Tippecanoe, Indiana.

Vicki (Phelps) Larson, 53, of 8130 Havitshine Way, Apartment #102, Centerville, Ohio passed away Saturday, August 2, 2003 at 4:00 p.m. at Hospice House in Dayton, Ohio.
She was born on October 1, 1949, in Plymouth, to Elmo (Bud) and Virginia (Burden) Phelps.
She married
Richard Larson on March 29, 1968 in Northfield, Minnesota. Vicki graduated from Plymouth High School in 1967 and McConnell Airline School in 1968.
Vicki is survived by her husband, Richard of Centerville, Ohio, their sons Christopher Larson of Santa Rosa, California and Jeffrey Larson of Centerville, Ohio, their daughter, Julie Lynn Larson of Xenia, Ohio, her parents Elmo (Bud) and Virginia Phelps of Plymouth, her sisters Sandy and James Manuwal, Jackie and David Wright, both of Plymouth, and Carla Sue Morgan of Westerville, Ohio. Also surviving are her three grandchildren Jaelyn, Guy Jr., and Jeff Banks, Jr.
Services will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home in Plymouth, with the Rev. William Kaster officiating. Burial will be at the New Oak Hill cemetery.

Dorothy O. Baird, 98, formally of 11820 11th Road, Plymouth, passed away Friday, August 1, 2003 at 8:35 p.m. at Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home in Plymouth.
She was born on June 27, 1905 in Nappanee to Otis and Daisy (Orcutt) Best.
Dorothy married
Raymond Keith Baird on December 21, 1940. Keith passed away on October 16, 1980. Dorothy and Keith worked their farm on 11th Road for years together. She also worked at Addie's Pie Shop in Plymouth helping with the making of the pies and waiting on customers. When she retired, she enjoyed walking up and down 11th Road and seeing all of the new building going on in that area. Dorothy enjoyed helping others and would take care of anyone when needed.
She was a member of the Plymouth Wesleyan Church and was active in her Sunday School Class. She also was a member of the Marshall County Humane Society.
She is survived by her son, Keith (Mary) Baird of Florida, her daughter-in-law, Phyllis Baird of Sheridan, Indiana, her niece, Dorothy Ann Smith of Wauseon, Ohio, and her nephew, Jack Ullery of Puget Sound, Washington. Also surviving are six grandchildren, several great -grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister.
Services will be held Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home with Rev. Lyle Breeding officiating. Burial will be in New Oak Hill cemetery,

Danny A. Young, 65, of Plymouth, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at 9:01 a.m. at Saint Joseph Regional Center in South Bend.
He was born on March 11, 1938 in Warsaw, to Allen and Lilly (Dolph) Young. Danny has been a lifetime resident of Marshall County.
Danny was a farmer and a farm equipment mechanic for most of his career. He was well know for being a kind and generous person and will be missed by his family and friends.
Danny is survived by his wife, Darlene, who he married
on June 7, 1985, his sons, Greg of Georgia and Fred of Indiana, three step-children; Lisa DeRoma of Hawaii, Lorra Keller of Plymouth, and Sam Sarullo of Chicago. Also surviving is a grandson, Nathan Dubinin of Plymouth. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Ronald.
Services will be held Saturday, August 2, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Mullin officiating. The burial will be in Tippecanoe cemetery.

Richard E. Ayers, 63, of 625 East Laporte Street, Plymouth, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at 4:38 p.m. at his home.
He was born on March 13, 1940 in Plymouth to Edgar and Bonnie (Hoyt) Ayers.
Richard worked as a auto repairman and with detailing.
Richard is survived by his daughters, Patricia (Larry) Ayers Lewis of Niles, Michigan, Karen (Douglas) Pearson of Plymouth, and Amanda (David) Compton of Warsaw, a son, David (Jennifer) Ayers of Bourbon, his sisters, Betty Biers of Elkhart, Indiana, and Edna Nissen of Plymouth. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Ian, Jacob, Emma, and Brock.
Private graveside services will be held. Burial will be in New Oak Hill cemetery.

Peggy A. (Dickson) Grossman, 43, of 900 Pearl Street, Plymouth, passed away Monday, July 21, 2003 at 12:54 p.m. at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. After a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, she went to be with the Lord.
She was born on March 18, 1960 in Plymouth to Riley and Edna (Conley) Dickson.
She was working for Ristance Products in Argos and also as a sales clerk, in the jewelry department, at Wal-Mart in Plymouth.
She is survived by her daughters, Angela (Josh) Kreiter of Warsaw, Indiana, and Tiffiany Grossman of Argos, Indiana; her sons, Michael Balke of, Kentucky, and Troy Balke of Fort Hood, Texas; her brothers, Greg Dickson and Mike Dickson, both of Plymouth; her parents, Riley and Edna Dickson of Plymouth, two grandchildren and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
There will not be any public visitation or service. A private family service will be held.

Loretta F. Beagles, 86 of 600 Oak Hill Avenue, Plymouth, passed away Friday, July 18, 2003 at 4:00 a.m. at Miller's Merry Manor, in Plymouth.
She was born on August 10, 1916 in Tyner, Indiana to Claude and Eva (Gerard) Beagles.
Loretta helped at her sister's beauty salon, Claudia's Beauty Shop, in Plymouth, and was also a clerk at J .C. Penney and Montgomery Ward in Plymouth. She also worked in the office at the Tyner Elevator.
She is survived by her brother, Raymond Beagles of Walkerton, two nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Floyd and a sister, Claudia.
There will be no visitation or services held.
Burial will be in the Tyner cemetery.
