Edgar Schimmel
Edgar Bernard "Bernie" Schimmel, 69, of Evansville, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at his home.
He was a sheet metal worker.
Surviving are his daughter, Janet Lee Johnson; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Miller & Miller Colonial Chapel, burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

David Davis
GRANDVIEW - David L. Davis, 51, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at his home.
He was a truck driver.
Surviving are his wife, Kim (Fisher); two daughters, Samantha and Nicole Davis; a son, David; two sisters, Eva James and Shirley Meredith; two brothers, Raymond Lee Masterson and Carl Davis; and a granddaughter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. EST Tuesday at Huber Funeral Home Tell City Chapel, burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Thomas Gray
VELPEN - Thomas M. Gray, 85, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at East Gate Manor Nursing Home in Washington.
He had been the Otwell post- master.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Jean (Taylor); a daughter, Peggy Church; three sons, Roger, Ed and Andy; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. EST Tuesday at Harris Funeral Home, with burial in Otwell Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. Masonic service, and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Esther Michel
FORT BRANCH - Esther M. Michel, 87, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at Owensville Convalescent Center.
She had worked for a short time at a grocery store.
Surviving are a son, Allan W. Pugh; three stepchildren, Sharon Dillon Smith and Benjamin W. and Carl R. Michel; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Stodghill Funeral Home, with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery.

Robert Norman
JASPER - Robert E. "Bob" Norman, 51, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at Deaconess St. Joseph Hospital in Huntingburg.
He was a truck driver.
Surviving are a daughter, Leah Norman; a son, Lucas; his father, Robert Norman; and a brother, Billy Joe.
Services will be at 11 a.m. EST Wednesday at Queen-Lee Funeral Home in Shoals, burial in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Clarence Berger
Clarence F. Berger, 84, of Evansville, died Monday, January 28, 2002, at Deaconess Hospi- tal. Mr. Berger was formerly a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, where he served as a Lector and Eucharistic minister. He is a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, the Retired Veterans Memorial Club and life member of VFW Post 1114. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was employed at Sunbeam Bakery and Fairmont Foods.
Mr. Berger is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda (Buente) Berger; one daughter, Mary Jo Covey of Crawfordsville, Ind.; one son, Rex Berger of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; three sisters, Marie Hoefling, Elizabeth Angermeier and Cleo Ferguson, all of Evansville; and one granddaughter, Tara Gardner.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, the Rev. Raymond Brenner officiating, with entombment in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 3 until 8 p.m. today at Pierre Funeral Home, where there will be a memorial service at 4 p.m. Friends may also visit at the church on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until service time.
Jack Cowgill
Jack Cowgill, 79, of Haines City, Fla., formerly of Evansville, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, in Winter Haven, Fla., of heart failure. He had been an executive manager.
Surviving are his wife, Lynda; a daughter, Gail Aaron; a son, Bruce; a stepdaughter, Alyson Anderson; and six grandchild-ren.
There will be no service or visitation. Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City, Fla., is handling arrangements.
Dorothea Dutton
Dorothea Jane (Oswald) Dutton, 81, of Newburgh, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Angel River Health & Rehabilitation.
Dorothea was head mistress of Raygor Day School in Matteson, Ill. She also taught kindergarten and pre-school.
She was a member of Methodist Temple and was a member of the Miriam Circle there.
Dorothea was a graduate of Bosse High School's Class of 1938, MacMurray College for Women and Indiana State Teacher's College.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Dutton on Dec. 23, 1997. Memorial tributes may be made online at www.mem.com
Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Dinah Dutton Jr. of Evansville; a daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Emil J. Becker Jr. of Evansville; grandchildren, Jill, John T. III and Julie Dutton, all of Evansville, Elesha and Brian Downs, both of Evansville, and E.J. III and Eva Becker, both of Cleveland, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Brennan Downs and Michael, Lauren and Christopher Dutton; brothers, C.E. Jr. and Lewis Oswald, both of Evansville; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Alexander East Chapel, the Reverend Robert Coleman officiating, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Alexander East Chapel.
Donations may be made to Methodist Temple.
Mary Forsythe
Mary Rachel Forsythe, 100, of Zionsville, Ind., formerly of Evansville, died Jan. 26, 2002. She was born in Newburgh at Maple Hill to Maymie and Eugene Sargeant, who owned the Sargeant Coal Co. She graduated from Newburgh Grade School and from Central High School. She went to Northwestern University as a music major, where she was in the Beta Quartet of Alpha Chi Omega. She later attended Lockyear Business College.
She retired from Citizens National Bank in 1961 as a public relations and budget consultant. She wrote a weekly budget article for the Evansville Courier. She became the first woman committee chairman of the Indiana Bankers Association. She owned the Mary Rachel Forsythe Insurance Agency in Newburgh. She sang professionally at the First Community Church for over 20 years. She sang at several national banking and sorority conventions.
She held various offices in the YWCA of Evansville and South Bend, Ind., Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, Musicians Club Board, DAR and the Rose Hill Cemetery
board. She was a charter member of Newburgh Youth Foundation, Newburgh Women's Club and Historic Newburgh.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice Swartz, 2 grandchildren, Marianne Carter and Bill Swartz; 2 great-grandchildren; a half sister, Ruth Emily Abitz and a half brother, Eugene Sargeant.
Graveside services for Mary Forsythe will be at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at Rose Hill Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at First Presbyterian Church in Evansville at 11:30 a.m., calling will follow in the church parlor. Simpson Meyer Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to the Historic Newburgh.
Infant Nathaniel Freeman
Nathaniel Evan Freeman, son of Evan and Stephanie (Helfrich) Freeman, was stillborn, Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at Deaconess Hospital.
Also surviving are a sister, Ellason; a brother, Halden; and grandparents, George Helfrich, Cathy Martin and Patrick and Jeanne Freeman.
Services will be at will be private, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Pierre Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
