Ira M. Nunley
Ira M. Nunley, 92, Pendleton, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2004, at Rawlins House in Pendleton following a brief illness.
He was born on July 13, 1911, in Kennit, AR to Frank and Dolly (Walker) Nunley.
He retired in 1975 from Guide Lamp after 25 years of employment and was a member of the Columbus Avenue Church of Christ.
He is survived by four children, Ron (wife, Joyce) Nunley of Lapel, Darlene (husband, Herbert) Likens of Anderson, Gary (wife, Marta) Nunley, and Terry (wife, Deborah) Nunley both of Pendleton; nine grandchildren, Chris Nunley of Crown Point, Chad Nunley of Martinsville, Wesley Likens of Frankton, Matthew Likens, Addison Nunley, Brennan Nunley, Heidi Moore, Trent Miller, and Tessa Nunley all of Pendleton; eleven great-grandchildren, Sarah, Allison, Hannah, Meredith, Seth, and Rachel Nunley, Taylor, Shelby, Madison, Adam, and Joshua Likens.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosemary (Lambert) Nunley in 1986; two brothers; and four sisters.
Services will be held at 12:00 PM Monday at Columbus Avenue Church of Christ in Anderson with Rev. Charlie Soden officiating. Burial will be at the Brookside cemetery, Lapel.
Friends may call from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM Monday at the Columbus Avenue Church of Christ in Anderson.

Landon L. Peckens
Landon L. Peckens, 19, Anderson, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2004, at his residence.
He was born on April 08, 1984 in Noblesville, Indiana to Sandy Peckens and Mark Michael.
He was a 2002 graduate of Lapel High School.
He is survived by mother, Sandy Peckens of Anderson; his father and step mother, Mark and Anna Michael of Elwood; five brothers and sisters, Jessica Michael of Elwood, Farron Payne of Elwood, Gus Hunnicutt of Elwood, Marlee Michael of Elwood, and Alicia Hendricks of Anderson; his maternal grandparents, Wilbur and Mary Peckens of Anderson; and his paternal grandmother, Lois Stopper of Madison.
Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday at Lone Oak Wesleyan Church in Anderson with Rev. Jerry Snyder officiating. Burial will be at the Perkinsville cemetery.

Avis I. Redmond
Avis I. Redmond, 87, Brownsville, TX, passed away Monday, February 2, 2004, at her residence following an extended illness.
She was born on December 11, 1916, in Jennings County, Indiana to Lota M. and M. Pearl Ralstin.
On November 14, 1936, she married
John W. Redmond who preceded her in death on August 16, 2000.
She lived a major portion of her life in Madison County and was an active leader in church, missions, home economics, 4-H, and other volunteer activities. She continued her education through Indiana University adult programs.
She had been a member of Elwood East Main Street Christian Church, East Lynn Christian Church, and Markleville East Christian Church while living in Madison County.
She is survived by three daughters, Joan (husband, Forest) Maddy of Brownsville, TX, Joyce Vickery of New Castle, and Bonnie (husband, Danny) Barmes of Lapel; thirteen grandchildren, Faith Maddy of St. Louis, MO, Brian Maddy (children, Kaylee and Ethan) of Oklahoma City, OK, Mark Maddy of Brownsville, TX, Stephen (wife, Barbara) Robinson [children, Audrey Avis (husband, Jose) Arias, Joshua, and Shauna] of New Castle, Donald (wife, Ruth) Robinson (children, Donald, III, Daniel, and Michael) of New Castle, Michael Robinson (child, Brooke) of Frankfurt, Christopher (wife, Dana) Wallace (children, William, Rachel, and Joyce) of Florida, Lora West (children, Jayda, Jacob, and Jordan) of New Castle, George (wife Betty) Vickery (children, Johnna and Daniel) of California, Chrissy Boggs (children, Marie and Michael) of California, Dana (husband, Christopher) Kluemke (children, Mathias and Joseph) of Lynn, Daniel (wife, Jamie) Barmes (child, Ryan) of Cicero, and Dama Barmes of Lapel; one great-great granddaughter, Juliana Arias; two sisters, Maxine Gillespy and Eva Rike; one brother, Les (wife, Joan) Ralstin; two sisters-in-law, Grace Ralstin and Virginia Ralstin.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Lapel with the Rev. Evan Lash officiating. Burial will be in Mechanicsburg cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sunday at the Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, Lapel.
Nancy S. Rice
Nancy S. Rice, 60, Lapel, passed away Saturday June 5, 2004, at her residence with her family by her side.
She was born on June 14, 1943, in Anderson, Indiana to L. Harold and M. Waneda (Robinette) Gray.
She was a school bus driver for Lapel school for over 24 years.
She was a member of the Lapel Eagles Auxiliary, the Frankton American Legion Auxiliary and she was a 4-H leader for many years.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Norman Rice; two sons, Brett A. Rice of Poland, and Brian L. (wife, Kelly) Rice of Lapel; her mother, Waneda Gray of Leesburg; one sister, Patricia (husband, Max, Sr.) Newkirk of Indianapolis; one brother, Tom Gray of Leesburg; two grandchildren, Kraig Rice and Katee Rice; her mother-in-law, Gayle Rice of Anderson; two sisters-in-law, Georgie Jean Elgin of Salem, and Margie Sheahan of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father Harold Gray and her father-in-law, George Rice.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. Richard Cole officiating. Burial will be at the Anderson Memorial Park cemetery.
Friends may call from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel.

Frank L. Scott
Frank Lorenze "Scottie" Scott, 83, Anderson, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at Community Northview Care Center Anderson following a brief illness.
He was born on October 24, 1920 in Bloomingdale, Indiana to Victor and Bonnie (Vail) Scott.
He was a WWII Army veteran and was a squad leader who received three bronze stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, a good conduct medal, and a WWII victory medal.
He was a member of the Anderson Amvets, the 40 and 8, and the American Legion.
He is survived by two daughters, Pam (husband, Steve) Wilson of Lapel, and Deborah (husband, Terry) McLary of Pendleton; a step-son, Gene (wife, Barbara) Richardson of Alexandria; four sisters, Marguerite Montgomery of Lebanon, Donnie (husband, Melvin) Kelly of Crawfordsville, Ruth Long of Lafayette, and Carol Morgan of Danville, IL; one brother, Larry (wife, Dora) Scott of Perrysville; six grandchildren, Felicia Hill, Samantha Salyers-Blount, Thomas Salyers, Donna Campbell, Ritchie Richardson, and John Richardson; and sixteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mary Scott, Dorothy Snodgrass, and Barbara Loveless; and two brothers, John Kenneth Scott and James Scott.
Private services will take place at a later date.
There will be no calling hours.

Donald R. Smethers
Donald R. Smethers, 74, Lapel, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2004, at his winter home in Ellenton, Florida following an extended illness.
He was born on October 9, 1929, in Madison County, Indiana to Ralph and M. Louise (Huntzinger) Smethers.
He was a 1947 Lapel High School graduate and he owned and operated Don's Auto Body in Lapel for 35 years.
He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, and the Pendleton Lions Club where he had held many offices.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Katie (Hudson) Smethers of Lapel; three sons, David Smethers of Anderson, William (wife, Kim) Smethers of Fairmount, and Steven (wife, Pam) Smethers of Coopersville, MI; three sisters, Rachel (husband, Inos) Russell of Anderson, Eloise Hunter of Lapel, and Irma (husband, Jack) Hughes of Anderson; one brother, Keith Smethers of Westfield; nine grandchildren, Jeffrey White, Brian White, Erik White, Ryan Smethers, Carlie Smethers, Kolby Smethers, Kelly Smethers, Kaitlyn Smethers, and Donnie Smethers; five step-grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; and several loyal friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie White; his parents; and four brothers-in-law.
Services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapel with Rev. Evan Lash officiating. Burial will be at the Brookside cemetery, Lapel.

Allie T. Smith
Allie T Smith, 77, Markleville, passed away Tuesday June 1, 2004, at Saint John's Health System in Anderson following an extended illness.
He was born on January 28, 1927, in Anderson, IN to Norman and Hallie (Covington) Smith.
He was a World War II Army veteran and he retired in 1990 from Coca Cola in Anderson after 46 years of employment.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Jo (Stanford) Smith; one daughter, Kathy Sue Barbee of Anderson; and three grandsons, Brandon, David, and Corbin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Ricky J. Barbee; and two brothers, Charles D. Smith and Wilbur L. Smith.
Services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel, with Rev. Larry Barkdull officiating. Burial will be at the Brookside cemetery in Lapel.

Miyuki Smith
Miyuki "Miki" Smith, 72, Anderson, passed away Sunday, December 19, 2004, at Community Hospital in Anderson following a brief illness.
She was born on March 26, 1932, in Nagasaki, Japan.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford Smith; one daughter, Rhesa (husband, John) Mickler of Carmel; two sons, John Smith of Anderson, and Jeffery (wife, Char) Smith of Olympia, WA; five grandchildren, Lindsay Smith, Brittney Smith, Tony Brown, Mackie Smith, and Taylor Smith; and four sisters, Haruno, Tsuyako, Chieko, and Ayako all of Japan.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. Neal Brown officiating. Burial will be at the Brookside cemetery in Lapel.

William Spearman
William Spearman, 74, Anderson, passed away Wednesday January 28, 2004 at Community Hospital in Anderson after an extended illness.
He was born on October 14, 1929 in Anderson, Indiana to Cecil and Opal (Closser) Spearman.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and retired in 1990 from Emge Packing company of 44 years.
He is survived by his wife, Harriett Hersberger Spearman, one son Ted (wife, Karen) Spearman, two Grandchildren, and four sisters, Marilyn Lawson of Alexandria, Patty Chambers of, TX., Judy Parks of Anderson, Susie Swinford of Anderson, and one brother, Cecil Spearman, Jr. of Anderson, .
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside Services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday at Brookside cemetery with Rev. Russell Irwin officiating.
Friends may call Friday January 30, 2004 at 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Lapel Masonic Lodge in Lapel.

Garfield G. Steedman
Garfield G. Steedman, 92, Franklin, passed away Monday, March 1, 2004, at Franklin United Methodist Community in Franklin following a brief illness.
He was born on January 10, 1912, in Churchville, NY to William and Jean (Donald) Steedman.
He received a BA from Taylor University in Upland and a Masters in Theology from Drew Theological Seminary in Madison, NJ. He served as pastor at Cicero UMC, Williamsburg-Greens Fork UMC, Kendallville UMC, Bourbon UMC, Trinity UMC (Lapel), Union City UMC, Mishawaka East UMC, and Church of the Savior UMC in Cleveland Heights, OH where he retired in 1977.
He attended Grace UMC in Franklin and was a member of the Lapel Lions Club, the Union City Rotary, and the North Webster Kiwanis.
He is survived by his wife, Marian (Matthew) Steedman; two sons, Donald L. Steedman of Covington, KY and Richard B. Steedman of Evansville; seven grandchildren, David A. Steedman, Angela L. Vasser, Allison J. Steedman, Brian J. Steedman, Emily S. Steedman, Jeffrey M. Steedman, Daniel A. Steedman; one great-grandson, Carson Matthew Vasser; and two daughters-in-law, Kathy Steedman and Barbara Steedman.
He was preceded in death in 1990 by a son, Robert W. "Rob" Steedman.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday at North Webster United Methodist Church in North Webster with Rev. Scott Mann officiating.
Friends may call from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday or 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM Thursday at the North Webster United Methodist Church in North Webster and 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM Thursday at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Lapel. A committal service will follow in Brookside cemetery in Lapel with Rev. Evan Lash officiating.
