Joan L Painter

ANDERSON - Joan L. Painter, 70, of Anderson died Tuesday at her residence after a sudden illness.

Joan was born in Elwood, Indiana on May 22, 1934 and was the daughter of Harley and Sylvia (Corbet) Leisure.

Joan was retired from Delco Remy-Anderson and was member of the UAW and QVC. She enjoyed taking care of her fish and playing with her dog Prince and shopping at A&K in Anderson.

Surviving is her son, Rick Painter, 2 daughters, Pam (Husband-Roger) Smith, Bee Painter, Son-in-law, Jeff Lakey Special friends, Kathy Scruggs and Greg Bristo.

Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Jeffery Lakey, Shaun Lakey, Ryan Smith, Raegan Smith, Adam Smith, Angie Painter, and great-grandchild, Lucas Lakey. In addition to her family Joan leaves her special companion Prince.

A son, Michael Painter, preceded Joan in death.

Funeral services will be Monday, at 1:00 p.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria. Burial will follow in East Maplewood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Paul R. Ellis, Sr.

ALEXANDRIA - Paul R. Ellis, Sr., 93, a resident of Englewood, FL. died May 23, 2004 in Community Hospital after a brief illness. He had recently arrived in Alexandria for a visit.

He was born in Alexandria on September 21, 1910 and was the son of Thomas P. and Anna (Hoop) Ellis. In 1932 he married Esther M Crist, she preceded him in death in 2000.

After 46 years of service he retired from Guide Lamp Corp., Anderson in 1975.

Surviving is a son, Paul R. Ellis, Jr., O.D. of Englewood, FL. Three Brothers-Harry Ellis and Richard Ellis both of Alexandria and William Ellis of Anderson. One Sister-Hilda J. Johnson of Elwood.

He is preceding him in death are his Parents, Step-Mother-Annie Wade Ellis, a Brother-Thomas W. Ellis, Sisters- Anna Brown, Martha Heffner, Ruth Thomas.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 27, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 S. Park Ave., Alexandria with Rev. Chester W. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Alexandria. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The Family request memorials be made to the charity of the Donor’s choice or The Parkinson Awareness Assn. of Central Indiana, 4755 Kingsway Dr., Indianapolis, IN 46205.

Robert E. Dyer, Jr..

ALEXANDRIA - Robert E. (Bud) Dyer, Jr., 84, of Alexandria, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004 at his residence after an extended illness.

Born in Alexandria on Feb. 17, 1919 and was the son of Robert E. and Ethel (Bitner) Dyer, Sr. On June 4, 1938 he married Anna J. (Knotts) Dyer who survives.

Bud was retired from the Art. Dept. of Ball State University, Muncie. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

Also surviving is his daughter, Shelia (Husband-John) Huffman-Alexandria, 8 Grandchildren, 12 Great-Grandchildren and several Great-Great-Grandchildren. A daughter, Sue Grooms and a son, Dennis Dyer preceded Bud in death.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of Gardens of Memory. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory, north of Muncie. military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Delaware Co. Honor Guard. There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the Donor’s choice.

Adelaide Ragsdale

ALEXANDRIA - Adelaide Ragsdale, 93, of Alexandria died Wednesday in Community North View Nursing Facility, Anderson after an extended illness.

Adelaide was born in Kenard, Indiana on Oct. 24, 1911 and was the daughter of Dr. Charles A. and Hattie (Ainsworth) Weaver. She had been a Home Maker all of her life.

Survivors include her Daughter-in-law, Denise (Nesie) Ragsdale-Alexandria, 4 Grandchildren, Kelly Ragsdale, Tom Ragsdale, Jimmie Ragsdale, John Ragsdale all of Alexandria.

Adelaide was preceded in death by her parents, her Husband, John A. Ragsdale in 1989, 2 sons, Thomas J. Ragsdale in 1959 and James Ragsdale in 2000.

Friends may call at Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday with Father Paul Cochran officiating.

Memorials may be made to Alexandria Fire Dept., St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund or the First Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.

Roger Kent Rude

Roger Kent Rude, 43, of Anderson died Sunday at his residence after a sudden illness. Born Nov. 19, 1960 in Anderson he was the son William R. Rude and Norma J. Thomas.

Roger had been employed as a painter with Painters and Allied Trade Local 669. From 1962-1974 he lived and went to school in Hawthorne, CA. Roger served 6 years in the U.S. Army and Reserves.

Roger spent many hours at his computer and playing his guitar with a group of his friends every Thursday night. He was an avid CB’er with the handle Rude Dog. He loved and was devoted to his three dogs, Runt, Whitey and Damit.

Surviving is a son, Roger Kent Bevelhimer, a daughter, Destiny Marie (Husband Carlos) Arteaga, a grandson, Carlos Arteaga, Jr. His father, William R. Rude of Rancho Cucamonga, CA., mother, Norma Stafford of Alexandria, sister, Tammie J. Walter of Cromwell, IN, a half-brother, Jeffery A. Rude of Anderson, 3 nephews, Shawn P. McCallister, Jeremiah A. Bennett, Austin Rude and great-nephew, Trae A. Bennett.

Funeral services will be Thursday, at 11:00 am in Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 S. Park Ave., Alexandria. Burial will follow in Park View Cemetery, Alexandria. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Sondra Sue Granger

Sondra Sue Granger, 61, of Alexandria died Wednesday in St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis after an extended illness.

Born on Oct. 8, 1942 in Charter Oak, MO. and was the daughter of Dondell and Glodean (Vandergrift) Reeves. In 1961 she married Larry Granger who precedes her in death. She was a 1960 graduate of Alexandria High School where she was the Tiger mascot. Sondra retired in 1995 from the Alexandria Care Center after 20 years of service.

Sondra attended the Alexandria Church of God. She was active in the Madison Co. 4-H helping her grandchildren with their rabbit projects.

Surviving are 3 daughters: Susan Granger-Moore, Leslie Granger, Traci Granger all of Alexandria. One brother, Dondell Reeves, Jr.-Fairmount, two sisters, Helen Dickerson and Darlene Kean both of Alexandria. Five grandchildren, Jeremy Plummer, Ryan Plummer, Lainie Moore, Derick Wyatt, Jada Wilson. Also surviving are several Aunts, Uncle, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews.

Her husband, a brother, Daniel W. Reeves and Father-in-law Clyde V. Granger, preceded Sondra in death.

Funeral services for Sondra will Monday, Jan, 5, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Rev. Harrison Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Vinson Memorial Park Cemetery, Summitville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

The family requests memorials to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.

John Quentin Wilson

ALEXANDRIA- John Quentin Wilson, 85, of Alexandria, died Sunday at his residence after an extended illness.

He was born on September 29, 1919 in Alexandria to the late Orville W. and Zoe (Draper) Wilson. He had been a farmer in the Alexandria area all his life and attended the Whetstone United Church of Christ in Anderson.

Surviving is his wife Carolyn (Miller) Wilson, 2 sons, Kim (wife-Karen) Wilson-Alexandria, Brad (wife-Susan) Wilson-Kokomo; 1 daughter, Ginger Paugh- Indianapolis. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Roszella (Weed) Wilson in 1999 and 5 brothers.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at 10:00 am in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Rev. Steven Gettinger officiating. Burial will follow in the Park View Cemetery, Alexandria. Friends may call the funeral home on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm

E. Louise Chatterson

ALEXANDRIA- E. Louise Chatterson, 84,of Alexandria died Tuesday in Community Hospital, Anderson after extended illness.

Louise was born in Detroit, MI on Dec. 22, 1920 and was the daughter of James and Ruth (McKee) Reeves. On Jan. 25, 1940 she married George Chatterson who survives.

Louise was a member of the Church of St. Mary’s in Alexandria, Daughters of the American Revolution-Anderson Chapter, P. Buckley Moss Society. She was an accomplished seam dress and taught a knitting class. Louise was a talented artist and enjoyed painting ceramics and plates. Louise was a devoted volunteer. She volunteer her time to serve as a Girl Scout Leader in Michigan and Indiana and serve as a Pink Lady at Community Hospital in Anderson. And Louise was an avid Bridge player.

Surviving in addition to her husband is a son and his wife, Michael and Marge Chatterson of Alexandria; one sister, Barbara Mahan, Ferndale, MI; six grandchildren, Dr. Michael A. Chatterson, Mark Chatterson, Mindy Childers, Melissa Chatterson, Steven Ely, and Sharon Carrell. Also surviving are 12 great-grandchildren.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Mary Ely, a sister, Elaine Reeves.

Mass of Christian Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, at the Church of St. Mary’s with Father Paul Cochran as Celebrant. Cremation will follow at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service to conclude the visitation.

The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials are made to the St. Mary’s Building Fund in care of the funeral home.

Virginia C. Gibson

TAVARES, FL – Virginia C. Gibson, 73, formerly of Summitville, IN died Friday at her Florida home after a brief illness.

Survivors include her Husband of 55 years Gerald, 2 Daughters, Becky (Husband-David0 Tune and Sue (Husband-Jim) Unruh, 2 Granddaughters, Holly (Husband-Jerry) Delong and Jessica Tune. Also surviving are four Great-Grandchildren.

Her Parents, Theodore and Ruth Payne and a Brother, Dwayne Payne, preceded Mrs. Gibson in death.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be sent to the Hospice Foundation of Lake and Sumter, Inc. 12300 Lane Park Rd., Tavares, FL. 32778.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Whetsel Funeral Service of Alexandria, IN.

Lestes Armitte Gosnell, Jr.

ALEXANDRIA- Lestes Armitte Gosnell, Jr., 73 of Alexandria, died Sunday, March 20, 2005 in Community Hospital, Anderson after an extended illness.

Mr. Gosnell was born in Elwood, IN on Dec. 26, 1931 and was the son of Lestes A. and Lillian King Gosnell. On Dec. 23, 1950 he married Marilyn Jo Fuller who survives.

Mr. Gosnell was a member of the First Christian Church of Alexandria, Alexandria Lodge #235 F & AM, UAW Local 662, Anderson. He retired from General Motors after 50 years of service. Mr. Gosnell served his country during the Korean Conflict serving on the USS Cutlass as a frogman.

Mr. Gosnell was a well known Alexandria businessman. Along with his family he was the co-owner of Hi-Top Enterprises.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 53 years are two sons; Jacob L. (Denise) Gosnell-Noblesville, Matthew A. Gosnell-Alexandria. One daughter; Marcie (John Erwin) Gosnell-Alexandria. Two sisters, Vurlin R. Nivens-Kendellville, Marlene ( Lew) Merrell-Alexandria. Also surviving are two grandchildren. Paisha Thomas, Benjamin Gosnell and one great-grandchild; Anzlee Thomas.

Funeral services will Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Revs. Harold Brinkley and Sharon Lang officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Alexandria. VFW Post #266 Anderson will conduct military rites. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 22, 2005 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Alexandria Lodge #235 of the F& AM will conduct a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
