Philip P. (Harry) Harris
PLYMOUTH — Philip P. (Harry) Harris, 49, of Plymouth, died Saturday, July 28, 2007 at Pilgrim Manor
Nursing Home.
He is survived by his father, William R. Harris, his brothers, William R. and Robin Harris III of
Culver and Jamie Harris of California, and his sister, Teresa Parrish of Minnesota.
Visitation is Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at VanGilder Funeral Home, Plymouth.
Services are Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Saint Michael Catholic Church, Plymouth, with Father
Glenn Kohrman officiating.
Burial will be at New Oak Hill cemetery, Plymouth.

Terry D. Whitaker
WALKERTON — Terry D. Whitaker, 51, of Walkerton, died Saturday, July 28, 2007 at the Center for Hospice and
Palliative Care, South Bend.
He is survived by two sisters, Erma Northam of Gurnee, Ill. And Carol Chapman of Walkerton.
Visitation is Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel, and
Tuesday after noon until the time of services.
Services are Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Woodlawn cemetery, Walkerton.

Esther K. Spitler
PLYMOUTH — Esther K. Spitler, 93, of Plymouth, died at 6:56 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2007 at Miller's
Merry Manor of Plymouth. She had been in failing health for two years. She was born July 23,
1914 on the family farm southwest of Plymouth to Ray and Daisy (Zehner) Spitler.
Living most of her life in the Marshall County area, she started working at the Plymouth library in
1933 and was a librarian until 1955. She moved to Indianapolis and worked for Citizen’s Gas for
15 years, then became a librarian for the Indianapolis Public Library. She retired in 1976 and
returned to the family farm to care for her parents until their deaths.
She graduated from Plymouth High School in the Class of 1933 and was a member of the Trinity
United Methodist Church in Plymouth where she taught an adult Sunday School class for many
years. She volunteered for the friends of the Plymouth Library and the Marshall County Historical
Society where she also served on the board of trustees. Listening to baseball and basketball
games while she worked around the house was one of the joys of her life. Several times a year
she drove to Indianapolis to see friends and buy a new outfit or shoes at L.S. Ayres. Hiking
around the farm, gardening and caring for her cats filled her days.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Spitler of Argos; her nieces: Beverly (Richard) Sprague
of Anderson and Portia (Barry) Wampler of Bourbon; her nephew, Terry (Cindy) Spitler of
Tippecanoe; 12 great nieces and nephews and five great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her twin brother, Ronald C. Spitler (April 29,
2006).
Friends may visit with the family Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Earl-Grossman
Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 3, 2007 at the funeral home with Rev. William Kaster officiating.
Burial will be at New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.

Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Viola G. Berkeypile
PLYMOUTH — Viola G. Berkeypile, 91, of Plymouth, died Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at 9:18 p.m.
at Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, Plymouth.
She is survived by her sons: John Berkeypile of Starkeville, Miss. And Ralph and Betty and
Berkeypile of Plymouth; her daughters: Joyce Neil of South Bend and Susan Vanderman of
South Bend; her brothers: Raymond Hunt of Indianapolis and Charles W. Hunt of Fort
Lauderdale, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. Burial will take place in New Oak Hill cemetery,
Plymouth, at a later date.
Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison St., Plymouth is handling the arrangements.
Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice.
Shelley K. Balmer
PLYMOUTH — Shelley K. Balmer, 42, of Plymouth, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, at her home.
She is survived by her husband, George Balmer of Plymouth, and their children, Allen Balmer
and Sarah Balmer.
She is also survived by her mother, Doris Hooker of Plymouth, and two brothers, Dennis Hooker
of Plymouth and Sean Hooker of Plymouth.
Visitation is Monday from 5 to 7p.m. at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth.
Services are Monday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Rosellen Morrell
PERU — Rosellen Morrell, 86, of Peru, died at 7:10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007 at home. She
was born Feb. 6, 1921 in Argos to Arley and Ila (Irwin) Jones. On June 29, 1940 in Cass County,
she married
Gabriel C. Morrell, who survives.
She graduated with the Argos High School Class of 1939. A homemaker, she was a 75-year
member of the Jordan Baptist Church, Argos, and attended Oakdale Baptist Church in Peru.
She was a quilter and made more than 64 quilts. She also loved to crochet.
She is survived by her husband, Gabriel C. Morrell of Peru; son, Roger (Kimberly) Morrell of
Montpelier, Ohio; grandchildren: Jeff (Lane) Morrell, Jon (Gina) Morrell and Julie (Kevin) Smith;
great-grandchildren: Jasmine Morrell, Brittin Morrell, Jordan Morrell, Logan Morrell, Kyle Smith
and Sarah Smith; step grandchildren: Heather Gauden and Heidie Goebel; step great-grandchildren:
Mason Gauden, Sage Gauden, Levi Gauden and John Boyer; and sister, Ruth
Adams of Argos.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers: Clair and Ancil Jones.
Visitation is Sunday, Aug. 5 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St.,
Peru.
Funeral services are Monday, Aug. 6 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Dr. Robert Stuck and
Rev. Julie Walker officiating.
Burial will be at Maple Grove cemetery, Argos.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Oakdale Baptist Church.
