Verna K. Biller
BOURBON — Verna K Biller 65 of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away suddenly while visiting
friends and family in Indiana.
Verna was born in Plymouth, and is the daughter of the late Lloyd and Elsie (Merrill) Pittman.
She grew up in Lakeville, and married
William L Biller on May 20, 1960. They moved to Michigan
in 1967 and then lived in New Jersey and North Carolina, and Punta Gorda, Fla. Was her
present home.
She was a homemaker. She loved her husband of 47 years and before her husband retired, they
traveled to many places together: Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Australia, Hawaii and
many more.
She loved her children and treated her daughter-in-law and son-in-law as if they were her own.
Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and loved spoiling them and keeping up to date with
the happenings in their lives. She supported their dreams and aspirations. She loved to shop and
to spend time talking on the phone with friends and family. She had many friends whom she
treated as family and she loved her special family friends, Beverly and Andy Hoffer of Warsaw
and Betty and Dick Baney of Bourbon.
Surviving are her husband, William L Biller of Punta Gorda, son, Stephen Lyle and his wife Cindy
( Dowdy ) Biller and their two children, Zachary William and Kristen Geneva all of Eagle Lake,
Fla, daughter Cheryl Lynn ( Biller ) Wells and husband John Mark Wells of Haines City, Fla., one
brother, Wayne Myers and his wife Pam from Plymouth Indiana, Step Brother Larry Myers and
his wife Loa, Lakeville.
Verna had seven nieces, one nephew and several grand nieces and a grand nephew, two stepnieces
and one step-nephew.
She is preceded in death by her step-father Glen T. Myers, brothers Lyle Pittman, Gary Pittman
and one step-sister, Dixie Myers.
There will be no service. Verna was cremated and her wish was to not have a funeral. A
celebration of her life will be held in Punta Gorda at a later date.

Richard L. Hoffman
ETNA GREEN — Richard L. Hoffman, age 68, a resident of 115 W. State St., Etna Green,
passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2007, at 6:25 p.m. unexpectedly in his home of natural causes.
Richard was born the son of John Hoffman and Ella Koenig Hoffman on April 30, 1939 in Fulton
County. He had been a resident of Etna Green since 1970.
He was joined in marriage on June 26, 1959 to Sharon Hill, who survives, along with their
children; Cheryl and Pastor Michael VanCleave of Rogers, Ark., Kim and Rick Reneker of Fort
Wayne, Jeff Hoffman of Etna Green and Greg and Janell Hoffman of Tippecanoe. He was also
blessed with five grandchildren: Tyson and Kristyn VanCleave, Eric Hoffman, and Megan and
Ryan Reneker. He also has a brother, Paul and Charlene Hoffman of Akron.
Richard was a graduate of Gilead High School, class of 1957. He was an owner of Hoffman
Implement Sales in Etna Green from 1970 thru 2002 when he retired. He also enjoyed his
immaculate garden which he shared with friends and family many of his produce items. He and
his wife attended regularly the Warsaw Wesleyan Church.
Funeral services to celebrate Richard’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 11 at 10:30 a.m. in
the Warsaw Wesleyan Church, 2402 Old U.S. 30 West with Pastor Wanda Carter and Pastor
Michael VanCleave officiating.
There will be a time of visiting and sharing memories with the family on Tuesday, from 4 to 8
p.m. at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon, IN 46504. Also for one hour
before services in the church on Wednesday.
Burial will follow in the Etna Green cemetery at Etna Green.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Warsaw Wesleyan Church in his memory.
Orpha F. Lee
PLYMOUTH — Orpha F. Lee, 90, a resident of 635 Oakhill Ave., Plymouth, died at 4:45 p.m.
Sunday, July 8, 2007 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth, following a two-week illness. She was
born July 16, 1916 in Plymouth to Carl E. and Eva Ann (Grover) Anderson. On April 24, 1935 in
Hammond, she married
Darrel K. Lee, who preceded her in death.
Orpha moved to the Argos community in 1962 from Whiting. A homemaker most of her life, she
was also a cook at Miller’s Merry Manor in Culver for a number of years. She was a member of
the Argos Bible Church and Child Evangelism Fellowship, both of Argos, and was an Avon lady
in the Argos community.
She is survived by a son, Darrel W. (Nancy) Lee of Argos; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren;
sister, Elsie Johnson of Hammond; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, LeRoy E. Lee; and three sisters.
Friends may visit with the family Thursday, July 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Earl-Grossman
Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 12 at the funeral home with Rev. Timothy Lee
officiating.
Burial will be at the Maxinkuckee IOOF (Poplar Grove) cemetery, Argos.
Memorial contributions may be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship, P.O. Box 54, Argos, IN
46501. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Arrangements have been entrusted with the Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, Argos.
James J. Muday
PLYMOUTH — James. J. "Jim" Muday, 63, died at his home in Plymouth on Monday, July 9,
2007 following complications from a four-year battle with cancer.
Survivors include his wife, Janet L. (Hendrickson); daughter Angeline of Chicago; son James
Nicholas of Chicago; sisters Dorothy (James) Lesch of Plymouth, Mary (Carl) Smolinski of
Flossmoor, Ill. And brother Tom (Jan) Muday of St. Joseph, Mich.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. July 20 in the Van Gilder Funeral Home, Plymouth. A Memorial
Mass will be celebrated Saturday, July 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church.
Doris M. Norman
KNOX — Doris M. Norman, 80, passed away Monday, July 9, 2007 in Porter Hospital,
Valparaiso Campus of an illness. Doris was born Aug. 13, 1926 in Winamac to George and Ruth
(Armstrong) Bender and lived in the area all of her life.
She was a former employee of Walgreens Pharmacy, Knox, a member of the Davis Wesleyan
Church of Hamlet for more than 50 years, and a member of the Starke County Historical Society
and the Red Hat Society of Knox.
She loved to tend her garden and her birds and loved to travel, having just retuned from
Branson, Mo., last week. She was very active in her church, loved everyone and got along with
everyone.
Survivors include: one daughter, Patricia (Daniel) Norwick of Plymouth; two sons: Douglas (Ann)
Norman of Greeley, Colo. And Dan (Rebecca) Norman of Grovertown; 15 grandchildren; and
nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters: Delores Bender, Jenette Bailey and Bernice Wilson
and her parents.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 13 at 10 a.m. CDT at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake
Chapel with Pastor Steven Cunnington officiating. Burial will take place in the Fletcher cemetery,
Hamlet.
Friends may call Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. CDT and Friday after 9 a.m. until the time of services
Memorial contributions may be given to the Davis Wesleyan Church or the American Cancer
Society.
Elias Fred Norton
PLYMOUTH — Elias Fred Norton, 89, 7599 Lincoln Highway, Plymouth, a lifetime area resident,
died of natural causes in Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth, at 11:05 a.m. on Monday, July 9, 2007
Fred was born in Marshall County, on May 10, 1918, the son of Nelson and Lura Essel Reed
Norton.
He was a graduate of Plymouth High School and served in the United States Army in World War
II.
On Dec. 11, 1948, in Inwood, Fred and Norma F. Roth were married
. Norma died, after 54
years of marriage, on Dec. 27, 2002.
Fred farmed and was a factory worker, retiring from the Young Door Company, Plymouth.
He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed talking to people and was a member of the First United
Church of Christ in Plymouth.
He is survived by a son, a daughter and their families.
His son is Nelson O. “Duke” and his wife, Melody Norton of Plymouth, and their children, Brooke
Enyart of Kokomo, and Micah Robertson of Plymouth.
Mary L. and Dennis Carter, Fred’s daughter and son-in-law, live in Plymouth. Their children,
Caroline Carter, Freesoil, Mich. And Michael Carter of Holland, Mich., survive as well, along with
six great-grandchildren.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Norma.
Friends are invited to celebrate Fred’s life and share memories on Thursday, July 12, 2007, from
5 to 8 p.m. and after 7 a.m. on Friday, July 13, 2007, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home,
1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Fred will be held in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 13, 2007.
The Rev. Dr. Ronald Liechty will officiate.
Burial will be in Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorial gifts in Fred’s memory may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
