Evelyn M. Schmidt
PLYMOUTH — Evelyn M. Schmidt, 91, of 620 Bayless Str., Plymouth, passed away on Friday,
March 30, at 5 a.m. at Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth.
Evelyn was born on Aug. 20, 1915 in West Union, Iowa, to Harry and Jennie (Drewes) Turner.
On Aug. 25, 1936, she and Victor Schmidt were married in West Union, Iowa.
Victor passed away on Dec. 8, 1999. Evelyn had retired as a library administrator in Illinois after
23 years of service. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Evelyn enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, doing word puzzles, reading and gardening.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Margaret (Peg) and Robert Schulte of Bremen; her
grandchildren, Richard and Lori Schulte of Oswego, Ill., Rebecca and Tony Martin of Etna Green
and Jeffrey and Becky Schulte of Montgomery, Ill.; her great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Schulte,
Conner Schulte, Zachary Schulte, Darius Stevens, Abigail Stevens, Sara Stevens, Danielle
Martin, Dylon Martin, Tray Martin and Caleb Martin; her sisters-in-law Sylvia Peters of Carson
City, Nev. And Marty Turner of Branson, Mo.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Victor and her brother Sam Turner.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 5, at 4 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home,
with the Rev. Dennis Wenzel officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran cemetery
following the service.
A time of visiting and sharing memories of Evelyn with her family, will be on Thursday, April 5,
from 3 to 4 p.m. at Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, IN 46563.
The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Immanuel Lutheran Church,
6835 Union Rd., Plymouth, IN 46563, or to the Boys & Girls Club of Marshall County, 314 E.
Jefferson St., Plymouth, IN 46563.

Ethel Marie Belt
PLYMOUTH — Ethel Marie Belt, 81, of Plymouth, died March 31 at Pilgrim Manor Nursing
Home, Plymouth.
She is survived by daughters, Nancy and Randy Whaley of Powder Springs, Ga., Karen Azzaro
and husband Greg Pennington of Martinez, Ga. and Sheryl Thayer of Carmel; one son, Ron and
Anita Belt of Plymouth; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.
There will be a memorial service Thursday, April 5 at 11 a.m. at Sunrise Chapel, 11802 Lincoln
Hwy., Plymouth. Graveside services will be Thursday at noon at New Oakhill cemetery,
Plymouth. Memorials may be made to the Sunrise Chapel Building Fund. Arrangements are
being handled by Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth.

Catherine G. Culp
ARGOS — Catherine (Katie) G. Culp, 80, of Argos, died Saturday, March 31 at Life Care Center,
Rochester, following a short illness.
She was born Sept. 13, 1926 in Plymouth to Verlin and Constance (Barger) Rhoades and had
lived in Marshall County all of her life. Her husband, Robert Culp, preceded her in death in April,
1983. They were married in November of 1972 in Plymouth. Catherine worked for 25 years at
Wagner Wire in Plymouth, which is now known as United Technology. She was a very loving
and giving person. She was very proud of all her children, grandchildren and great
grandchildren. She loved her community and her large circle of friends.
She is survived by one daughter, Judy and John Marion of Lebanon, Ind.; three sons, Stephen
and Roxie Peltz of Plymouth, Ted and Vickie Peltz of Logansport and Dennis and Reva Peltz of
Argos; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her
parents, her husband, a daughter Paula Spencer in March 2001, a granddaughter Brandy Peltz
in December 1986, two brothers and three sisters. Friends may visit with the family Tuesday,
April 3 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, at the Church of Jesus Christ, 15676 Michigan
Rd., Argos, with the Rev. Lloyd Howard officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove cemetery.

Martha Lorene Friar
SOUTH BEND — Martha Lorene Friar, 71, of South Bend, died March 31, 2007 in Hospice House.
Surviving are her children: Lorrie Nunemaker of South Bend, Thomas (Debra) Friar of Plymouth
and Tyrone Scott (Virginia) Friar of Torrance, Calif.; five grandchildren; two sisters: Duke
Williams of California and Mickey Stanley of Indiana; and one brother, Terry Mann of Kentucky.
A graveside service was held Monday, April 2 at Elm Ridge cemetery in Muncie.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
McGann Hay Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Sharon James-Davis
PLYMOUTH — Sharon James-Davis, 58, of Plymouth, died on Sunday, April 1.
She is survived by daughter, Kimberly Furlan of Germantown, Tenn.; son, Ray Morrison of
Germantown, Tenn.; three grandchildren; father, Ray C. James of Pulaski, Tenn.; sister, Retha
Sistrunk of Germantown, Tenn.; and brothers: Gary James of Phoenix, Ariz., Darrell James of
Austin, Texas and Randy James of Hendersonville, Tenn.
Graveside services will be held on June 8 at Greenway cemetery, Greenway, Ark.
Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth, is in charge of the arrangements.

Matthew James Morris
PLYMOUTH — Matthew James Morris, 18, a member of the 2007 Senior Class of John Glenn
High School, died following an auto accident at 5:38 p.m. Sunday.
Matt was recently accepted as a freshman into the Indiana University — Kelley School of
Business. A lifetime area resident, Matt was born in Plymouth on Feb. 22, 1989, the son of
James W. and Monica L. (Jaeger) Morris and resided with his parents at 5280 Redwood Rd.,
Plymouth. Matt has received his education in the Walkerton school system where he excelled
as a scholastic student athlete.
Matt simply loved people — his family, friends and educators, as well as his two dogs; Cobra
and Maggie, and most other animals that might come his way. Matt had his sights set on
attending college this fall and assisted other students as a teacher’s aide and by tutoring
classmates in various subjects with the goal of seeing others attain their ambitions in life. He
volunteered as a “Big Brother, ” served four years on the Student Council and as Class
Treasurer, a member of FCCLA, the National Honor Society — Matt received a perfect math
score on the S.A.T. and competed in the Academic Decathlon. He had been a member of the
band and Spanish Club. Soccer was Matt’s longtime chosen sport and served as captain. He
has also been a member of the golf team for the past three years. There was no hiding he was
also a big Colts fan. Matt appreciated all types of music, paintballing with friends and his new
sport of hunting.
Matt is remembered by his family as having a loving heart who always awoke with a big smile
and ended his day with a smile and a bed time “I LOVE YOU.” They include his parents; Jim
and Monica Morris of Plymouth, his sister Kara E. Morris, a senior at Indiana University;
maternal grandmother, Patricia R. Jaeger and paternal grandfather, Richard C. Morris, both of
Plymouth. Aunts and uncles include: Donna and Jeff Cohen, James and Abby Jaeger of Crown
Point, Joanne and Mike Mulberger of Merrillville, Joe and Lynn Morris and Julie A. Morris all of
Plymouth, along with numerous cousins. Preceding in death was Matt’s maternal grandfather,
Donald B. Jaeger; paternal grandmother, Joyce P. Morris and uncle, Michael Morris.
Friends are invited to join the family in remembering Matt’s life on Wednesday, April 4, from 2 to
8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St. Plymouth, where calling
will continue after 7 a.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 5 at
the Plymouth Wesleyan Church, 11203 S. Michigan St. The Rev. Tim Davis, Walkerton
elementary principal and Pastor John Branch of the Plymouth Wesleyan Church will officiate.
Burial will follow in the New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth. Preferred are memorial gifts to the
Marshall Community Foundation — Matthew J. Morris Scholarship Fund, c/o 2701 N. Michigan
St., Plymouth, IN 46563.

Beth A. Mack
WINAMAC — Beth A. Mack, 45, of Winamac, died on Tuesday, April 3. She is survived by her
husband, Dale W. Mack; daughter, Jennifer J. Dilts of Fort Wayne; and brothers: Terry Dilts of
Tallahassee, Fla., Bob Dilts of New Carlise, Mike Dilts of Plymouth and Pat Dilts of LaPorte.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 6 at 2 p.m. at St. Anne's cemetery, Monterey.
O'Donnell Funeral Home, North Judson, is in charge of the arrangements.

William Lynn Durkes
ROCHESTER — William Lynn Durkes, 61, of Rochester, died at 8:33 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4 at home.
He is survived by his wife Mary Lou Durkes of Rochester; daughter, Shelly (Dan) Melton of
Rochester; son, Craig (Shari) Durkes of Akron; six grandchildren; sister, Janice NewcombMitchell
and husband Bob of Pittsboro; brother, Ron (Kay) Durkes of Fort Wayne; and sister-inlaw,
Peggy Durkes of Rochester.
Visitation is Sunday, April 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services Monday at the Good
Family Funeral Home, Rochester.
Funeral services are Monday, April 9 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the Richland Center IOOF cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted
by the LeRoy Shelton American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Memorials may be made to Hope Hospice of Fulton County.

David L. Holland
PLYMOUTH — David L. “Dave” Holland, 64, a lifetime Plymouth resident, died of natural
causes in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, at 2:02 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2007.
Born in Plymouth on May 8, 1942, Dave was the son of Eldon “Dutch” and Mary Jane (Albert) Holland.
He graduated in 1961, with the first graduating class of the new Plymouth High School.
On Nov. 4, 1961, in St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, Dave and Sandra Vinall were married .
A general contractor, licensed plumber and electrician, Dave retired from construction in 2004.
An outdoorsman, he loved fishing and gardening and enjoyed housekeeping. He won the
Plymouth Pride Award for his beautiful yard and landscaping.
NASCAR racing and Mark Martin were his favorites.
Dave is survived by his mother Mary Jane, his wife, Sandra, and by their three daughters: Lori
(Mike) Faylor of Culver, Lisa (Roger) Drown of Urbandale, Iowa and Leah (Sean) Kellenberger of
Edina, Minn.
Thirteen grandchildren also survive. They are: Lori and Mike Faylor’s children, Alicia Henely,
Michael Faylor, Jr.: Aaron (Jessica) Gilley; and Zachery Faylor. Also, Lisa and Roger’s children,
Jessica, Alicia, Ethan and Lainey Drown: and Haley, Griffin and Ian Kellenberger, children of
Leah and Sean.
Andrew Whitaker and David Holland, sons of the late Bill Holland, survive as well, together with
two great-granddaughters, Olivia and Gwendylan Gilley.
Also surviving are two sisters and a brother. They are Kathy Holland of Highland, Jan (Bill)
Berger of Valparaiso, Greg (Ann) Holland of Grovertown.
Dave’s mother-in-law, Mary Vinall, sister-in-law, Pam (Jay) Wakeland and brother-in-law, Jim
(Judy) Vinall, along with several nieces and nephews, also survive.
Dave was preceded in death by his father and a son, William Holland.
Friends are invited to share memories with Dave’s family on Saturday, April 7, 2007, at the
Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, from 1 to 4 p.m.
Funeral services for Dave will follow visitation at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Josh Wakeland, a nephew of Dave’s, will officiate.
Burial will be at a later date in New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorial gifts in Dave’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, Marshall County Chapter.

Dorothy L. Walters
Dorothy L. Walters, 91, of 971 W. Eighth St., died at 10:20 a.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Hospital,
Rochester. Her health was failing for 10 years.
Born in the Burton community of Fulton County, she was the daughter of Harry and Myrtle
Etycheson Batchelor, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Rochester High School
and lived her whole life in Fulton County.
On April 4, 1936, in Richland Township, she married Ernest "Bud" Walters, who preceded her in
death on June 8, 2000. A homemaker, she also worked in food service at Rochester Middle
School. She was a former member of the Evergreen Rebekah Lodge and Sand Hill United
Methodist Church. She enjoyed fishing with her husband and sewing for her family.
Survivors include three sons, Eddie Walters and wife Bonnie, Greensboro, N.C., Jimmie Walters
and wife Connie, Rochester, and Ronnie Walters and wife Joan, Florida; eight grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hattie Holloway, Rochester. She was preceded in death by a
son, Mickie Walters, in 1967; a grandson, Ricky Joe Walters, on Oct. 10, 1990; and a brother,
William Batchelor.
Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th
St., Rochester, with the Rev. George Hapner officiating. Burial will be at Richland Center IOOF
cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to
the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to United Ministries Outreach;
envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
