Wauneta M. Elliott
Wauneta M. Elliott, a lifetime Marshall County resident, died, following an illness, at her
residence on Baker St., Plymouth, at 11:48 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2007. She was 89 years old.
Wauneta was born on October 3, 1917, in Tippecanoe, Indiana, the daughter of J.D. and Nellie
Maze Winterrowd. She attended schools in Tippecanoe, Linkville and LaPaz.
On January 6, 1940, in Argos, Indiana, she and Denzil D. Elliott were married
. Denzil died on
April 22, 1992.
Her life long pleasure was as a homemaker, taking care of her family.
She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed her flower gardens.
Wauneta was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth.
She is survived by a daughter, a son and their families.
Her daughter and son-in-law are Kay and Jose Gonzalez, Plymouth, and her son and his wife
are Randall and Kay Elliott, Sault Ste Marie, Michigan.
Five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Wauneta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three brothers: Wayne,
George and Robert “Max” Winterrowd. Three sisters have also died. They are: Alta Best, Elma
Fanning and Delta Schrome.
Friends will be welcomed to celebrate the life of Wauneta by her family on Thursday, February
22, 2007, from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Friday, February 23, 2007, after 7:00 a.m., in the Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Paul Nye and the Rev. Dr. Ronald Liechty, pastors of
the First Presbyterian Church, will be held in the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2007.
Entombment will be in the New Oakhill Mausoleum, Plymouth, Indiana.

Eugene F. Wayman
Eugene F. Wayman, 74, died unexpectedly at 2:41 p.m. Monday, February 19, 2007 in the St.
Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth. A former resident of Hobart, he has made his home
at Myers Lake, Plymouth for the past 17 years.
Gene was born the son of Frank and Mary Ann (Machowiak) Wayman on March 22, 1932 in
East Chicago, Indiana. He was a 1951 graduate of Hammond High School.
He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952-54.
On June 6, 1953, in Harvey, Illinois he took as his bride the former Claudia C. Thornton.
Together they would raise eight children.
In 1990 after 39 years of service with NIPSCO, Gene retired as a former manager and
consultant. He enjoyed the many times spent with family and friends on the lake and liked
fishing, a good game of golf and his hand at carpentry.
He had attended St. Michael Catholic Church, Plymouth.
Survivors include his loving wife Claudia, four sons, four daughters and eighteen grandchildren.
Their children are: Michael E. (Jodi) Wayman of Valparaiso, David R. (Cookie) Wayman of Las
Vegas, Patricia J. Wayman of Valparaiso, Thomas E. (Janet) Wayman of Crown Point, Robert
D. (Christine) of Warsaw, and Michele E. (Jeff) Robertson, Christine M. (Gus) Rodriguez and
Jacquelyn M. (Tony) Kalin all of Valparaiso.
A sister, Pearl Pazdur of Valparaiso and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Gene was preceded in death by two sons; Eugene M. Wayman (1962) and James R. Wayman
(1967) along with two brothers; Edwin and Henry Wayman and a sister, Helen Stasko.
At Gene’s request his body is being bequeathed to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois for
research and a private family gathering will be held.

Jacquelyn Leeper
Jacquelyn "Jackie" Leeper, 59, of Bremen, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at
Bremen Health Care Center. She was born on October 23, 1947, in Bremen, to Ray & Bertha
(Richardson) Leeper.
A lifetime Bremen resident, Jackie was a Lab Tech for the Community Hospital of Bremen and
for Bremen Castings. She was a Member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bremen and the
Thursday Morning Ladies Bible Study.
Survivors include 1 Brother: Harland "Skip" Leeper of Colorado. She was preceded in death by
her parents.
Services will be held Friday, February 23, 2007, with a Committal service at 10:30AM at the
Bremen cemetery Chapel and following, at 11:00AM, a Funeral Memorial Service at St. Paul's
Lutheran Church, 605 S. Center Street, Bremen. Friends may call on Thursday, February 22,
2007, from 5-8PM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Bremen.

Albert P. Roach
Albert P. “ Al” Roach, 85, died at 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2007, in the Bremen
Health Care Center.
Born in New Brunswick, Canada on May 1, 1921, Al was the son of Fidele and Zelie Poirier Roach.
A Merchant Marine for 25 years, Al retired in 1985 as a Marine Engineer.
On January 28, 1964, Al and Dorothy M. Plowman were married
in Galveston, Texas.
Surviving along with Dorothy, his wife of 43 years, are a daughter, Jennifer and Alex Bryant of
Bremen, Indiana, a son, James and Vickie Hinesley of Angleton, Texas, six grandchildren and
four great-grandchildren.
No services will be held. Entombment will be in Galveston Memorial Park, Hitchcock, Texas.
Garnette Jennings
Garnette Jennings, 78, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 23, 2007. She had
been a resident of the Bremen Health Care Center since June 2006.
She was born on October 27, 1928, in St. Paul, Virginia, to the late Hagan and Eliza Salyer, and
had been a Bremen resident since 1987.
On November 28, 1953, she married
John A. Simmons Sr. After his death in January 1973, she
married
John J. Jennings on March 16, 1974. Mr. Jennings preceded her in death in June 1984.
She is survived by a son, John Simmons and his wife Cindy of Bremen; and a daughter, Phyllis
Weaver of Hickory, NC, two Granddaughters: Marti Vance and her husband Nathan, and
Victoria Simmons, all of South Bend and one Great Granddaughter, Brianna Vance. She was
preceded in death by six Sisters and two Brothers.
Garnette graduated top in her class from nursing school at Lynchburg (Virginia) General Hospital
in 1953. She later co-owned Farmer John's Market in Richmond, Virginia, with her first husband.
Upon retirement she moved to Lynchburg, Virginia, where she resided until moving to Bremen.
She was a longtime member of First Baptist Chruch of Bremen where she enjoyed many close
friendships. Garnette loved the Lord and was a true example of Christianity to her family and
friends. She had a kind and sweet spirit, and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2007, followed by funeral services at 3:00p.m.
Both services will be held at First Baptist Church, of Bremen, where Pastor Jerry Smith will
officiate. Garnette will be laid to rest at Fort Hill Memorial Park, Lynchburg, VA.
Our family wishes to express gratitude and appreciation to the Bremen Health Care Center,
Hospice of Marshall County, and to Home Health Care providers Virginia Graverson and Shirley
Mae Forsythe for profession and loving care of Garnette. Their dedication and support will
always be remembered.
Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Hospice of Marshall County or the First
Baptist Church in Bremen.
Elaine R. Orton
Nappanee -- Elaine R. Orton, 58, of Nappanee died Friday, Feb 23.
She is survived by her husband, Dave Orton of Nappanee, her son, David Earl Orton of
Nappanee, her daughter Sabrina and Bob Borton of Plymouth, one granddaughter and four
sisters, Cheryl and Daniel Gonzalez of Nappanee, Susie and Glen Hochstetler of Nappanee,
Cindy and Joe Lynn of Bremen and Mary Robbins of Wakarusa.
Visitation was Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Goshen United Pentecostal Church. Services were
Monday at the church at 7 p.m. with pastor Gary Roberts. Private burial was at South Union
cemetery.
Louise Redman
Louise Redman, 63, of 53871 Generation Drive, South Bend, Indiana, died of natural causes in
Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, at 11:58 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2007.
Louise was born in Plymouth, Indiana, on May 24, 1943. She was the daughter of David E. and
Jeanette Nitcher Rensbeger McGowen.
She attended Plymouth schools.
Louise enjoyed visiting people and being with her family.
She is survived by a daughter: Crystal Redman, Warsaw, Indiana, and by a sister and two
brothers. They are: Sandy and George Jarvis, Mishawaka, Indiana: Phillip McGowen, Elkhart,
Indiana, and Jim and Judy Brinkman, Plymouth.
Friends will be welcomed by her family to celebrate Louise’s life on Tuesday, March 6, 2007,
from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Sunrise Chapel, 11802 Lincoln Highway, Plymouth, Indiana.
A memorial service for Louise, officiated by the Rev. Rustin Krapfl, pastor of the Sunrise Chapel,
will follow visitation at the Chapel on Tuesday evening.
Burial will be in Oakhill cemetery at a later date.
Memorial gifts in Louise’s memory may be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice.
W. Darlene Smith
BREMEN - W. Darlene Smith, 74, died at 8:10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, in the Bremen Health Care
Center.
She was born in Bremen, Indiana, on April 21, 1932, to Guy and Mabel (Kamp) Smith.
While never marrying, she lived a fulfilling life in Bremen, and was a member of the First
Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include a sister, Esther Flory of Bremen; three nephews, Douglas (Connie) Flory of
Bremen, Jeff (Sally) Flory of Wyatt and Dennis Smith of New Paris; two neices, Carol (Steve)
Dhoore of South Bend and Kay (Ronnie) Bechler of Goshen.
Her parents and two brothers preceded her in death.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2007, in Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen, with
Pastor Neil Wonnacott officiating. Visitation will be two hours before services in the funeral
home. Burial will be at Bremen cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Bremen Health Care Center Activity Fund.
Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen, assisted the family with arrangements.
Marie Miller
Marie Miller, age 97, of 222 Parkview Street, Plymouth, Indiana, passed away Monday, February
26, 2007 at Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home in Plymouth.
Marie was born on July 16, 1909 in Thomaston, Indiana, to Herman and Atilla (Hawkins) Boldt.
On October 14, 1928 Marie married
Stanley Miller who preceded her in death.
Marie lived most of her life in the South Bend, Indiana area. She graduated from South Bend
Central High School. For a short period of time, she worked for the Studebaker Corporation. She
then became a full time homemaker and helped on the family farm.
Marie is survived by her son, Richard and Jeanie Miller of Plymouth; her grandchildren, Vickie
Hunter, Patty and Ken Alwine, and Jon and Debbie Miller; eight great-grandchildren, Dallas and
Marella Hunter, Michael Hunter, Jonathan Miller, Katie Miller, Carmen and Brian Rudisell, Isaac
Alwine, Leeann Alwine, and Emily Swain; and two great-great-grandchildren, Isaac Hunter and
Tiffany Rudisell. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley, and her sister, Melva
Boldt.
Private family funeral services will be take place. Burial will be in the Saint Joseph Valley
Memorial Park cemetery in Granger, Indiana. The Rev. Alan O. Carson, Sr. will be officiating at
the service.
Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, Indiana, 46563, is handling the
arrangements.

Raymond Dale Young
Bourbon -- Raymond Dale Young, 79, of Bourbon died on Monday, Feb 26 at Memorial Hospital
of South Bend.
He is survived by his wife Joanna (Schweisberger) Young of Bourbon; sons: Steve (Jenny)
Young of Fort Wayne and Al (Jill) Young of Bourbon; daughter, Linda (Glen) Helmuth of
Bourbon; eight grandchildren; sister, Dorothy (Harry) Niebling of Sturgis, Mich; and brothers:
Lowell (Barbara) Young of Bremen and Kenneth (Kathy) Young of Nappanee.
Visitation was Thursday, March 1 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Thompson-Lengacher
& Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee and one hour prior to services Friday.
Funeral services were Friday, March 2 at 10:30 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church,
Bremen. Burial was at the Bremen cemetery.
