Frederick L. Rentschler
Frederick L. Rentschler, 77, of The Villages, Florida, died Sunday, February 11, 2007 in Lady
Lake Specialty Care Center, Lady Lake, Florida.
The son of Carl and Sally Williams Rentschler, Fred was born in Plymouth, Indiana on March 30, 1929.
Fred was a resident of Fort Wayne, Indiana until 1999, when he retired from Indiana & Michigan
Electric Company, now American Electric Power, as a Senior Power Engineer. After his
retirement, he and his wife, the former Marilyn Hoover, moved to The Villages, Florida.
He was a member of the Purdue Alumni Association, Charter Member of Indiana Chapter #1
Korean War Veterans Association, an Honorary Duke of Paducah, and a Life
Member of the American Legion, Chapter #347. In Florida, he was a member of Hope Lutheran
Church, The Indiana Club, and the Polo Ridge Club.
Fred is survived by Marilyn, his wife of 56 years, two daughters: Jane Helton of Lafayette,
Indiana and Amy Stehlik of Marietta, Georgia, and three grandchildren.
Burial will be in New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth, Indiana.
A Memorial Service for Fred will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2007 in Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michign St., Plymouth, Indiana.

Paul W. Weaver
MONTEREY — Paul W. Weaver, 90, of 5620 E. 600 N., Monterey, died at 2:35 p.m. on Sunday,
Feb. 11 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac. He was born on Dec. 20, 1916 in Lawton, Ind.
To Leander and Lenora (Kuhn) Weaver. On Feb. 5, 1940 in Pulaski, he married
Rosanna T. Ortman.
Paul was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Monterey. He was also a member of
Pulaski County Farm Bureau. Paul enjoyed farming and buying and selling cars. He enjoyed
time spent with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Rosanna of Monterey; son, Robert E. (Sandra) Weaver of Culver;
daughters: Debra E. Penicaro of Star City and Rosalie A. Watson of Plymouth; 15 grandchildren;
21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Alvina Downey of Monticello,
Mary Margaret Dilts of Menonomee, Wis., Ellen Reinholt of Kearneysville, W. Va. And Mildred
Schmicker of Winamac; brothers: Cletus Weaver of Michigan City and Albert Weaver of Star
City; and son-in-law, Charlie Sumey.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leander Weaver; mother, Lenora Kuhn Weaver;
daughter, Pauline A. Sumey and brother, Vincent Weaver.
Visitation is Thursday, Feb. 15 from 2 to 8 p.m. CST at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. A Rosary
service will be held at 3 p.m. CST.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. CST at St. Anne's Catholic Church,
Monterey, with Rev. Bert Woolson officiating.
Burial will take place in the St. Anne's cemetery, Monterey.
Dale E. Burnham
WANATAH — Dale E. Burnham, 77, of Wanatah, died on Monday, Feb. 12 at St. Anthony
Hospital, Michigan City.
He is survived by daughters: Susan (Terry) Garner of Hanna and Nancy (Kevin) Redweik of
Wanatah; sons: Gary (Connie) of Michigan City and Roger of Hanna; brothers: Kenneth of
Kansas, Robert of South Dakota and Dean of Arizona; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Thursday, Feb. 15 after 11 a.m. until the time of services at David Wesleyan Church.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Feb. 15 at 1 p.m. CST at the church.
Burial will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hanna cemetery Association, 12844 S. 300 W., Hanna, IN 46340.

Frederick L. Rentschler, 77, of The Villages, Florida, formerly of Plymouth, died on Feb. 12 at
Lady Lake Speciality Care, Lady Lake, Fla.
Visitation is Saturday, April 14 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home,
Plymouth. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be at New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.

Norman "Carl" Walterhouse
Norman “Carl” Walterhouse, 90, a lifetime Marshall County resident, died of natural causes in
Pilgrim Manor at 7:15 p.m. on Monday, February 12, 2007.
Carl was a grand old soldier of World War II. He received his final marching orders and is now
serving in his Lord’s Army.
Born in LaPaz, Indiana, on August 20, 1916, Carl was the son of Norman and Elsie Hazel
(Guyse) Walterhouse.
Carl was truly a member of The Greatest Generation.
He attended LaPaz schools until he was 16-years-old.
In 1941 he joined the Army, and served with the 168th Infantry of the Fifth Army for almost four
years, fighting battles in Algeria, Tunisia, the Po Valley and Italy. His unit was commended for
over 300 days of combat. He was awarded a Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in ground
combat in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater of Operations.
His other decorations included two Purple Hearts, Bronze and Silver battle stars and an Arrowhead.
After his honorable discharge, Carl came back to Plymouth and worked in the box factory for 10
years. He later worked for 20 years in the Indiana State Highway Department.
In his later years, he diligently and faithfully swept the walks for many downtown merchants.
He liked a good joke and enjoyed making the rounds to share them with the guys at the
Plymouth Police Department and Uncle Doug’s Barber Shop.
He loved to shop and had an extensive collection of shirts and ties. He was known to be very
giving to others and never forgot the names of his friends
In 1998, Carl was named the Honorary Blueberry Festival Parade Marshal. Former Governor
Otis R. Bowen was the official parade marshal and Carl said that shaking Dr. Bowen’s hand was
one of the thrills of his life.
He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #1162, the
American Legion of Bourbon and constant member of the Plymouth House of Prayer.
In 2002, in failing health, Carl went to live in the Indiana Veterans Home in West Lafayette.
He missed Plymouth and his many friends so much so, he soon returned home to Plymouth
where he has made Pilgrim Manor his home since June of 2003 where he appreciated the
attention and care provided by the entire staff and special friends, Kelly Wagers, Officer Gary
Cleveland and brother in Christ, Larry Harner.
Carl is survived by a sister, Margaret Parcell of LaPorte, Indiana, and four nieces and ten
nephews. His nieces are: Carol Singleton, Bremen: Martha Torrible, Silver Springs, Md.: June
(Norm) Kelley, York, Penn.; and Pat Simpson, Mill Creek, Ind.
His nephews are: Lester Moser and Carl (Helen) Moser, all of Bremen, Ind.; Art (Carolyn) Moser,
Mishawaka, Ind.: Bill (Terry) Nicholas, Mesa, Ariz.: Harold (Betty) Nicholas, Phoenix, Ariz.; John
(Wanda) Nicholas, Mill Creek, Ind.; Dale Nicholas and Richard Nicholas, both of Niles, Mich.;
Don Nicholas, LaPorte, Ind., and Jerry Nicholas, Denver, Colo. along with numerous great
nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Walterhouse and an infant brother and by four
sisters: Blanche VanVactor, Reathel Nicholas, Mildred Moser and Lois and Ruby Walterhouse.
Friends will be welcomed by his family to share memories and to celebrate Carl’s long and
inspiring life on Thursday, February 15, 2007, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral
Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth. Where calling will continue after 7 a.m. on Friday
until time of services.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 16, 2007, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. James Campbell.
Interment will be in Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth where Military Honors will be provided by
members of the V.F.W. Post 1162 and American Legion Post 27.
Memorial gifts in Walter’s memory may be given to the Marshall County Museum, 123 N.
Michigan St., Plymouth, IN 46563.
Steven Wayne Booker
Steven Wayne Booker, 46, died unexpectedly of apparent natural causes, at 3:04 p.m. on Friday,
February 16, 2007, at his Garden Court residence, 400 W. Washington St. He was a former
Benton Harbor, Michigan resident, for many years.
Born in Bremen on April 6, 1961, Steve is the son of Robert J. and Dorothy M. (Early) Booker
and attended Benton Harbor Community schools.
On October 21, 1989 he married
Wendy K. Chmielewski in Plymouth.
He was a fiberglass fabricator for several area businesses as well as a roofing contractor.
Steve, above all, loved his children and talked of them often. He was an outdoor sportsman and
enjoyed all sorts of activities, especially hunting and fishing until he became disabled.
He had a great sense of humor and was proud of his numerous tattoos.
Steve had attended the Plymouth Open Bible Church.
He is survived by his mother; Dorothy M. Pope of Plymouth, his former spouse and by his four
children: two daughters and two sons.
His daughters are Kayla Nicole Booker and Kristen Michelle Booker. His sons are Steven W.
Booker, Jr. and Brandon Michael Booker all of Plymouth.
Also surviving is a dear brother, Robert Michael Booker, Sawyer, Michigan and sister and
brother-in-law, Cynthia K. and Harold Tabor of Plymouth.
Several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Crystal Brink of Plymouth, survive as well.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, a step-father; Carl D. Pope, his grandparents and
several aunts and uncles.
Services will be held at a later date.
Interment will be in Graceland cemetery, Bridgman, Michigan.

Charlotte A. Jagminas
Charlotte A. Jagminas, 91, died of natural causes at her home, 712 Nueva Gorda, Culver,
Indiana, on Friday, February 16, 2007.
Formerly of Chicago, Illinois, she was born March 4, 1915, as the daughter of Sylvester and
Katie Galinski Kostecki. She went to school through the 8th grade.
In 1936, she was married
to Alexander T. Jagminas. Alexander died on October 24, 1980.
For 25 years, Charlotte was a salad maker. She worked for Rocheloo Salad. She retired in 1973.
She was a member of St. Georgia’s Church in Chicago.
She is survived by a daughter and two sons.
Her daughter is Charlotte Brettin, Culver, Indiana and her sons are Sylvester “Bill” and Vicki
Jagminas, Franklinton, Louisiana, and Robert and Lillian Jagminas, Chetek, Wisconsin.
Charlotte was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. They are Helen Pilatouskas,
Anna Kostecki, Sylvester Kostecki and Christopher Kostecki.
Funeral services will be held at St. Casimir cemetery, Chicago, Illinois, on February 20, 2007, at 11 a.m.
Thelma Angeline (Allen) Banning
Thelma Angeline (Allen) Banning passed away at the home of the granddaughter, Diane Voth in
Danville, Kentucky on Sunday, February 18, 2007 at the age of 98. She was born July 18, 1908
near West Lebanon, Indiana, the daughter of John Fingal and Sadie (Yarbrough) Allen. She
attended school at West Lebanon, graduating in 1926. She then attended Indiana State
Teachers’ College in Terre Haute, Indiana, graduating in 1929. She taught elementary school for
four and one half years in Warren County, before leaving the profession to raise a family and
assist her husband with the farming operation. Thelma returned to teaching and taught an
additional ten years in Fountain County.
Thelma married
Earnest R. Banning on December 24, 1930 in Independence, Indiana and
became the mother of eight children: Charles R. (Nancy Carey) of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Gordon
(Juanita Knauff) of Williston, Florida, Joan Gossett of Charleston, Illinois, John A. (Marsha) of
Plymouth, Indiana, Jerry P. (Susan) of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Patricia M. Youman
(William) of Terre Haute. Twins, Everett Roy and Theresa Ann died in infancy.
Thelma lived all of her life in Warren County until moving to Danville, Kentucky to live with her
granddaughter, Diane Voth, nearly four years ago. Thelma was active in the Williamsport
community as a member of the Christian Church in West Lebanon, O.E.S. Chapter #162 of
Eastern Star, Fountain/Warren Retired Teachers’ Association, Ouabache Chapter of D.A.R.,
The Attica/Williamsport Senior Citizens, Home Extension Club, Warren County Garden Club,
and several social clubs. She loved people, old and young, and valued their friendships. She was
also an avid reader and cherished her books as well as sharing them with others.
Thelma is survived by six children, 16 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; twin babies; her sister, Isabelle Galloway; her
brothers, John, Karl, and Roald Allen; and her parents, Fingal and Sadie Allen.
Services were held Saturday, February 24, 2007 at Grady Funeral Home, Williamsport, Indiana,
with Minister Bruce Thornsbrough officiating. Burial took place in West Lebanon cemetery.
Memorials may be given to West Lebanon Christian Church, 201 South Clinton Street, West
Lebanon, Indiana, 47991.
