Richard L. Pfeiffer
PLYMOUTH — Richard L. Pfeiffer, 81, of Walkerton, passed away at 7:36 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7,
2007 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lucetta; a daughter, Terry Greene of Teegarden; a son,
Rick (Denise) Pfeiffer of Lakeville; four grandchildren, Jessica (Mike) Wright of Lakeville, Kelly
(Joe) Stanley of North Liberty, Christine ( Don Derda) Pfeiffer of Lakeville, and Kimberly Greene
of Anderson; and one great-granddaughter, Arianna Stanley.
A sister, Betty Thornburg of Mishawaka and a brother, Forrest W. Pfeiffer of Rochester, also
survive.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Morris cemetery, Walkerton.
The Rev. Steve Cox will officiate.
Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec.11, in the Palmer Funeral Home,
314 S. Michigan St., Lakeville.
Contributions may be offered to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Donald LeRoy Quier
ROCHESTER — Donald LeRoy Quier, 70, of Rochester, died at his home, Dec. 7, 2007 at 11:22 p.m.
He is survived by his wife Patricia (Sayger) of Rochester; one daughter: Betty Musick (Michael
Beam) of Rochester; a son: Nelson (Brenda) Quier of Deridder, La.: two sisters: Mary Castle of
Kenton, Ohio and Linda Combs of Jackson, Ky.; one brother: Walter David (Betty) Quier; three
grandchildren: Tammy LaFosse, Anthony Wardrup and Donny Wardrup; and several nieces and
nephews.
Visitation will take place Monday, Dec. 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday, Dec. 11 from 9 a.m.
until the time of service at the Good Family Funeral Home.
Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home and burial
will follow at Athens cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Marshall County Hospice.
Hildegarde H. Berkheiser
Hildegarde H. Berkheiser, 85, of 10808 Windrose Point Ave., Las Vegas, Nev., and formerly of
the Argos community, died at Hospice at the Heights of Summerlin, Las Vegas on Saturday,
Dec. 8, 2007 at 9:07 a.m. She was born on Sept. 14, 1922 in Maxwell, Texas, to the late Hugo
and Erna (Hoffman) Boenig, the first of five children. She graduated from Maxwell High School
as valedictorian of her class in 1940. She grew up in the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Maxwell,
where she was a member of the Luther League and held several offices.
Hildegarde and Franklin Devoe Berkheiser were married
in the Ebenezer Lutheran Church on
Dec. 28, 1944. Hildegarde and Devoe moved from Texas to Argos, where they raised their four
children. Hildegarde worked as the secretary to the Argos Community School Junior and Senior
High School Principal for 10 years. She loved working around the students and teachers equally,
and her involvement in the school was fitting, as she had wanted to be a high school English
teacher herself.
Wherever Hildegarde went, she spread a glow of love and gentle kindness. She loved the Lord,
and she loved to sing. She was singing as sweetly and purely as ever until the day she died. She
will be missed by the many she touched, young and old, who knew and loved her in Texas,
Indiana, Arizona and Nevada.
Hildegarde was preceded in death by her beloved husband Devoe on April 6, 1996. She is
survived by one sister, Frances Schuster, of Maxwell, Texas; two daughters: Mary, and her life
partner Becky Hansen, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Denise, and her husband Kent Morley, of
Tucson, Ariz.; two sons: Vaughn, and his wife Ava, of Thomaston, Ga., and Jeffrey, of Argos and
St. Petersburg, Fla.; four granddaughters: Shauna Lynne, Danielle Marie, Emily Grace, and
Madeline Claire; one great-granddaughter, Ella Marie, and three great-grandsons: Hunter
Devoe, Jack Roland, and Ethan Ryan.
Friends will be welcomed by the family to celebrate Hildegarde’s life, Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007
from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at the Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos, and at
the church Friday, Dec. 14, from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 14, 2007 at 10 a.m. at the Argos United Methodist Church,
540 N. Michigan St., Argos, and will be officiated by Rev. Robert Vale.
Burial will be at the Richland Center I.O.O.F. cemetery in Fulton County.
Madeline H. Burch
WALKERTON — Madeline H. Burch, 90, of Walkerton, died Sunday, Dec. 9 at Saint Joseph
Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Cleveland of Clovis, Calif.; sons: Ronald L. Burch and
Delmas G. Burch, both of Tyner; six grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers:
Raymond C. Cole of Tyner and Dwight (Pauline) Burch of Walkerton; and sister-in-law, Mildred
Cole of Plymouth.
Visitation is Friday, Dec. 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth.
Funeral services are Saturday, Dec. 15 at 11:30 a.m. at Blissville Church of the Brethren,
Plymouth.
Burial will be at Tyner cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Blissville Church of the Brethren.
Ellen M. Britton
HAMLET — Ellen M. Britton, 86, of Hamlet, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2007 at home.
She is survived by daughters: Lucille Atkins of Lincoln, Neb., Betty Kirby of Grovertown, Sarah
Loveless of Winamac, Linda Britton of Plymouth and Flo Gropp of LaPorte; sons: Charles of
Plymouth and Floyd of Elkhart; 40 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren;
and half sister, Dorothy Madsen of North Judson.
There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held Thursday, Dec. 13 at 1 p.m. CST at
Crown Hill cemetery, Knox.

Bruce A. Rose
FORT WAYNE — Bruce A. Rose, 51, passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007 at his home in Fort
Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne, he worked in Information Technology Services with Lincoln
National for 20 years. He received an Outstanding Alumnus Award for Student Development
from B.S.U. in 1992.
Survivors include wife, Diane of Fort Wayne; mother and step-father, Betty and Robert Kuhn of
Plymouth; step-mother, Pat Rose of New Haven; son, Jordan at home; daughter, Jennifer at
home; brothers: Brad (Heather) of New Haven, Michael and Jeffrey Kuhn both of South Bend
and Art (Karen) of Hudson Lake; sisters: Kim (Dan) Pelz of Charlotte, N.C. and Mindi (Bryan)
Lucas of Lithia, Fla.; father-in-law, Charles (Marilyn) Miller of Windfall; brother-in-law, Tim
(Paula) Tucker of Zanesville; and Jim (Brenda) Head of Sharpsville; paternal grandmother,
Madelene Rose of Angola; nephews and nieces: Haley, Wayd, Kayla, and Levi Rose, Terry
Leatherman, Michael and Kristen Pelz, Brandon, Krystal and Alyssa Tucker of Zanesville and
Daniel, Katie and Kasey Head of Sharpsville, Ashley, Mallory, Ryan, A.J. and Laura Kuhn of
South Bend, Skyler and Mackenzie Lucas of Lithia, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Rose; sister-in-law, Tammy Jo Miller and a
nephew, Joseph Tucker.
Memorial service is 4 p.m. Saturday at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home,
1140 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, with calling two hours prior.

Larry Devon Gann
Larry Devon Gann on Dec. 14, 2007 went home to be with our Lord and Savior. He lost his battle
with cancer.
Larry was born Feb. 14, 1950, in Plymouth. He was the son of Lenora and Bernard Gann of
Argos. After graduation Larry was drafted into the United States Army. During his service in
Vietnam, Larry was honored with many medals including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal
and the Vietnam Service Medal. Several years later Larry re-enlisted in the United States Navy.
There he received the Navy Commendation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
Larry was a member of the American Legion Post 3 of Hanford. He was also a member of the
Hanford Elks Lodge 1259 and the Fresno Basque Club. Larry was currently employed as a
Manager for Campos Brothers Farms in Caruthers. There the Campos’ and employees became
family to him.
Larry is survived by his wife Rita from Caruthers and three daughters: Misty Gann and Lori Todd
of Hanford and Tammy Moore of Colorado Springs; his parents, Lenora and Bernard Gann; a
brother, Dennis Gann; and sister Kim Snider, all of Argos; a sister, Mary Runyan of South Bend;
two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, brothers in-law, nieces, nephews and several
grandchildren. He is also survived by his long time and loyal friend Steve Stover as well as many
other friends.
Larry will be greatly missed and will remain forever in our hearts.
Viewing will be at Whitehurst-McNamara Funeral Home, Hanford, Calif. On Friday, Dec 21, 2007
from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Service to begin at 1 p.m. following the viewing. Burial will be at the
Hanford cemetery District.
John W., Sr. Lowry
PLYMOUTH — John W. Lowry, Sr., 69, of 700 Berkley Street, Plymouth, passed away Friday,
Dec. 14, 2007, at 6:50 a.m., at the home of his daughter, in Warsaw.
John was born on June 9, 1938 in Bourbon, to Edward and Marie (Hart) Lowry. He worked at
Fairmont Homes as a lead man.
John is survived by his daughters, Rae Ann and Stephen Harris, Lisa and Pat Roark, and
Rejeana and Dan Dunning; his sons, John, Jr. and Shanna Lowry, Tim and Sherry Lowry, Jerry
and Tonya Lowry, Terry Lowry, and Carl and Bobby Lowry; his sisters, Mary and Raymond
McGriff, Jody and Joe Friend, and Patty Bruch; his brother, Carl and Linda Lowry; 23
grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his
brothers, Harold, Richard, Gene, and Paul; his sister, Rose Ellen; and a great- granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 1 p.m., at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, in
Plymouth, with the Rev. Robert Rice officiating.
Burial will be in New Oak Hill cemetery, Plymouth.
A time of visiting, with the family, will be on Wednesday, Dec. 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the
Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, IN, 46563.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 112 S.
Center St., Plymouth, IN 46563, or to the Kosciusko County Hospice.
Winifred L. Mast
NAPPANEE — Winifred L. Mast, 74, of Nappanee, died Dec. 14, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. at Hospice
House in South Bend after an extended illness.
He is survived by a wife: Rose Mast of Nappanee; four sons: Michael Mast, Mark (Coleen)
Mast, Matt (Diane Pippenger) Mast and Mario (Julie) Mast all of Nappanee; 17 grandchildren;
seven great-grandchildren and two sisters: Donnabelle (Dean) Keck of Columbia City and
Miriam (Bob) Wilson of South Bend.
Visitation will take place on Monday, Dec. 17 from 2 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services on
Tuesday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Homes.
Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 10:30 a.m. at burial will follow at South
Union cemetery.
