Betty J. Harrell
CULVER — Betty J. Harrell, 80, of Culver, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007 at Kosciusko Community
Hospital.
She is survived by daughters: Jacque Middleton of Arkansas, Patricia Smith of Etna Green, Jerri
Russell of Griffith, Pamela Harrell of Mentone, Ronda Gray of Arizona and Verlonda Burleson of
Culver; son, Larry Harrell of Knox; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters: Fern Bane
of Kentucky and Irene Harrell of Knox; and brothers: James Dilts of Knox and William Dilts of
Knox.
Visitation is Wednesday, Nov. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. until the time
of services Thursday at the Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel.
Funeral services are Thursday, Nov. 8 at 3 p.m. CST at the funeral home.
Burial will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. CST at Winamac cemetery.
Leon Andrew Schuler
ANGOLA — Leon Andrew Schuler, 70, of Angola and previously Plymouth, went to be with our
heavenly and gracious Father on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Lee was born Nov. 11, 1936 in Boston, Mass. To Andrew and Virginia Schuler. On Nov. 20,
1965, he happily married
Arlene Schuler (currently of Angola).
Mr. Schuler was a proud patriot and veteran of the United States Air Force serving in the Korean
and Vietnam conflicts. Lee drove semi-trucks and then became an iron worker in the Gary area
for more than 18 years, and helped in the construction and fabrication of the Sears Tower. He
was a member of the Ironworkers' local #395. Living in Plymouth, Lee made many dear friends
while working at Bomarko, Sellers Mnfg. And Plymouth White Metals. Upon moving to Angola in
1994, he worked at Vestil Mnfg. He was a welder/fabricator, and made welding into an art form.
He enjoyed his friendships and mentoring many before retiring in 2005.
Lee enjoyed his family, coaching sports, horses, reading, metal crafting, telling humorous stories
and attending sports events. He was a devoted and providing father, loving husband,
grandfather and great-grandfather, and his family was always his top priority. He had a caring
heart, strong mind, and was always willing to help others.
Surviving are his wife, Arlene of Angola; four sons: Doug (Pam) of Warsaw, Shawn (Jenny) of
Rochester, Craig of Plymouth and Chris of Angola; three daughters: Becky (Ron) Brehmer of
Crown Point, Laura Larimore of Portage and Rhonda (Billy) Wellsandt of Post Falls, Idaho;
grandchildren: Sam Schuler, Matthew Schuler, Nathan Schuler, Chandaire Schuler, Steven
Schuler, Angie Balmer, Scott Schuler, Crystal Schuler, Joshua Wellsandt, Brandy Hall, Cassie
Larimore, David Hall, Chris Hall, Ron Brehmer Jr., Kate Brehmer, Tim Brehmer and Alli
Brehmer; four great-grandchildren: Noah Brehmer, Aaron Brehmer, Desiree Hall, Asylyn Hall,
and two others on the way.
Lee was preceded in death by his two parents; foster parents, George and Edna Hood; and
three granddaughters.
Memorial services will be held at SonLight Community Church in Angola on Monday, Nov. 12 at
12 p.m. with Pastors John Willoughby and Jay Rhodes speaking. Any and all friends and family
are encouraged to attend the celebration of Lee's life.

Clifford Wayne, Sr. Stacy
Feb. 29, 1956 - Nov. 4, 2007
LAPAZ — Clifford Wayne Stacy Sr., 51, of Plymouth passed away at 4:20 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4,
2007 in his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 29, 1956 in South
Bend to Earl Wayne and Myrtle Eloise (Handley) Stacy and lived most of his life in LaPaz.
Mr. Stacy is survived by his wife, Cynthia “Cindy” F. (Harlacher) Stacy; two daughters: Amanda
(Shane) Johnson of LaPaz and Keeley Stacy of Bass Lake; three sons: Clifford Wayne Stacy Jr.
of Mishawaka, Steve (Leah) Stacy of Plymouth and Ethan Stacy of Bass Lake; three
stepdaughters and one stepson; five grandchildren: Savannah, Megan, Adrian, MacKenzie and
MaKayla; 10 step grandchildren; sister, Janet Herrera of LaPaz; a brother, Russell Stacy of
Plymouth; and a very special cousin, Bonnie Ulrich of Inwood. A granddaughter, Madison
preceded him in death.
Mr. Stacy was honorably discharged from the United States Army. He was self-employed for 32
years as a truck driver, was formerly employed by Bettcher Trucking and for the county and state
highway departments in Marshall County. Mr. Stacy was a member of the American Legion Post
385 in LaPaz and the Teamsters Local 364 in South Bend. He loved to race and work on cars.
His great passion was being a blue grass musician.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 2007 in the Palmer Funeral Home, 314
S. Michigan St. Lakeville. Minister James Handley will officiate. Burial and military services will
follow at Fair cemetery, North Liberty. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m.
Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007 in the funeral home.

Gladden Robert Griggs
SOUTH BEND — Gladden Robert Griggs, 50, passed away Monday, Nov. 5 at his home in
South Bend from natural causes. He was born in Belle Glade, Fla. On May 8, 1957. He was the
only son of the late Julian Gladden and Ruth (Warstler) Griggs.
He is survived by his wife and soul mate, Ann (Donohue) Griggs and three children: Gabriel (age
16), Nathaniel (age 13) and Olivia (age 11). Surviving family members include three sisters: Mrs.
John (Anita) White, Mrs. Marian Ravenscroft and Mrs. Howard (Laura) Lamaster.
He graduated from Triton High School in Bourbon in 1975. He received a Bachelor of Science
degree in psychology at Manchester College and then studied two additional years of premedicine
courses at Manchester College. Instead of becoming a doctor, he worked as a psych
tech at the Bowen Center in Warsaw and was the director of Russell House in Plymouth for
several years.
He married
his wife Ann in September of 1988 and has resided in South Bend since then. Ann is
a nurse employed at Memorial Hospital of South Bend.
He later obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of
Notre Dame. He then was employed at Capital Technologies for 10 years as a machine designer
and at Honeywell as a mechanical engineer in the aeronautical department for two years.
His last jobs included designing software and operating computer systems. He specialized in
architectural landscaping computer-assisted drawing (CAD) with Ann’s brother Dan Donohue.
He recently co-created and designed a patent and trademark for charms, Gribbits.com, that can
be attached to earphones, iPods, stethoscopes, heart monitors and pencils. Gladden dedicated
his life to his wife and children, and opened his heart and home to family, friends and those in
need.
Visitation will be at Palmer Funeral Home in South Bend from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9. A
memorial service will be held at St. Matthews Cathedral at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10. Instead of
flowers and plants, memorial contributions can be donated to the children’s college fund at TCU

Nancy Joy Hartwell
PLYMOUTH — Nancy Joy Hartwell, 77, living at 805 Baker St., Lot 51, for the past three years,
died, following a short illness of three weeks, in Indiana University Hospital, Indianapolis, at
11:59 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, 2007.
Nancy will be remembered as a joyful Christian woman who loved the Lord, her family —
especially her three grandchildren and many friends. Next April would have marked 19
successful years as a kidney transplant recipient. She never knew the donor but always gave
praise for this life saving gift.
Nancy was the daughter of Guy Joseph and Lena Mae (Howard) Edington. She was born at
home in Ionia, Mich., on March 31, 1930.
She graduated from Ionia High School with the class of 1948, and from an Elkhart Trade School
as a dental hygienist.
In spite of losing her wedding dress and the start of their new home to the great Plymouth flood,
Nancy and Henry F. Hartwell were married
on Oct.15, 1954, in South Bend.
Over a period of 15 years, Nancy worked as the dental hygienist for Dr. Arnold Dunfee Sr., and
later Dr. Wm.Conger.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, she enjoyed hosting big family dinners.
Talented in crafts of all kinds, she was the former owner of the Goshen Gift House. She enjoyed
having been a 4-H mother, tending her garden and was a newly found Chicago Cub Fan. Her
favorite show was “The Sound of Music, ” and her favorite song, “Little Things Mean a Lot.”
Nancy’s pet dog was an Australian shepherd-mix named Mayi.
She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and for many
years she volunteered for “Meals on Wheels”, a program she helped to start with friend Sue
Read.
She and her husband have enjoyed wintering in Frost Proof, Fla. Since 1999.
Nancy is survived by Henry, her husband of 53 years and by their two children: their son, Joe A.
(Diane) Hartwell, Nappanee and grandson, Tyler and their daughter Jane L. (Jim) Williams,
Plymouth, and granddaughters, Amanda and Abby.
A sister-in-law, Mary Jane Manual, Plymouth, and several nieces and nephews survive as well.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends are invited by her family to share memories and celebrate the life of Nancy Hartwell from
4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N.
Michigan St., Plymouth. Calling will continue after 7 a.m. Friday until time of services.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, in the funeral home. The Rev.
Charles Krieg will officiate.
Interment will be in the New Oakhill Memorial Gardens, Plymouth.
Preferred gifts in Nancy’s memory may be made to the Indiana Kidney Foundation or to the
Trinity United Methodist Church.
Elizabeth June Lewandowski
NORTH JUDSON — Elizabeth June Lewandowski, 71, of North Judson, died Monday, Nov. 5 at
VNA Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso.
She is survived by daughters: Mandy Trusty of Medaryville and Beverly Walters of Argos; sisters:
Elvira Russell of Denham, Wilma Bradley of Knox and Linda Owens of Knox; brother, Ronnie
Clemons of North Judson; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Wednesday, Nov. 7 form 4 to 8 p.m. CST at the O’Donnell Funeral Home Inc., North
Judson. Funeral services are Thursday, Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Highland cemetery.
Earnestine Mallory
KNOX — Earnestine Mallory, 68, of Knox, died Monday, Nov. 5 at Starke Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Neveal; daughter, Suzanne Gerretson of Knox; son, John
Gerretson of Larkslane, Ky.; stepdaughter, Anna Currie of Pensacola, Fla.; mother, Marie
Sparkman of Knox; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gerri Jensen of
Knox.
Visitation is Tuesday, Nov. 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to the service at
Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel.
Funeral services are Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. CST at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Eagle Creek cemetery, Knox.
