Rudith Sheridan
Rudith Sheridan, 88, of 16564 18th B Road, Culver, Indiana, passed away Thursday, October
11, 2007, at 2:23 p.m. at her home in Culver.
Rudith was born June 3, 1919, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She graduated from Carroll College in
Wisconsin and taught school in Oxford, Wisconsin and in Plymouth, Indiana. She was a member
of A.A.U.W. and the Historical Society in South Bend and Culver, Indiana. She was an active
member of the Altar Guild at Saint Thomas Episcopal Church in Plymouth.
Rudith married
her college sweetheart, The Right Reverend William C. R. Sheridan, Retired
Bishop of Northern Indiana. Bishop Sheridan passed away on September 24, 2005.
Rudith is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth (Al) Noak of Crown Point, Indiana, Margaret
Bonen of Culver, Indiana, The Rev. Mary (Jim) Janda of Sandy, Utah; her sons, Stephen (Julie)
Sheridan of Dallas, Texas and Peter (Janet) Sheridan of Pooler, GA; ten grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren;
her sisters, Louise Summers of Middleton, Wisconsin and Betty Ann (Wally)
Punko of Brookfield, Wisconsin.
A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Thomas Episcopal
Church in Plymouth, with the Right Reverend Edward S. Little, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese
of Northern Indiana and the Reverend Margaret Shaw officiating. Burial will be in New Oak Hill
cemetery, Plymouth.
A time of meeting with the family and sharing memories of Rudith will be on Tuesday, October
16, 2007, at Saint Thomas Episcopal Church, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, Indiana, 46563, is handling the
arrangements for the family.
Memorial contributions may be given to Saint Elizabeth's Episcopal Church, 515 North State
Street, Culver, Indiana, 46511.
Larry Dean Walters
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Larry Dean Walters, 63, of Fayetteville, N.C., died Thursday, Oct. 11.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Walters of Fayetteville, N.C., his mother, Dorothy Walters of
Plymouth, a son, Kevin Walters of Indianapolis, and brothers, Thomas Walters of LaCrosse, Jeff
Walters of Hawaii, Bob Walters of North Carolina and Rick Walters of Knox.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. Services are at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel on
Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James Adcock and Rev. Merry Christine Douglas officiating.
Burial will be at Fletcher cemetery, Hamlet.
E. Ruth Flosenzier
PLYMOUTH — E. Ruth Flosenzier, 89, died of natural causes in Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth,
at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2007.
Ruth was born the daughter of Ivan and Daisy M. Stuber Read in Peru, on Aug. 17, 1918.
She was a 1936 graduate of Plymouth High School. She then attended Manchester College for
two years, obtaining her teacher’s certificate.
On Dec. 31, 1939, in Plymouth, Ruth became the bride of Vernon L. Flosenzier. Vernon died on
Sept. 4, 1995. They were married
for 56 years.
Ruth taught art, home economics and music at Inwood and Green Township schools. She
helped her husband on their farm, at the Plymouth Community Sale Barn and Flosenziers’ Farm
and Home Supply store, retiring in 1984.
Very artistic, she enjoyed flowers, crafts and painting.
A member of Sunrise Chapel, Ruth was treasurer for many years and served on the missionary
board.
She is survived by a son and two daughters. They are Dick and Barbara Flosenzier, Plymouth:
C. Jean Church, Knoxville, Tenn., and Linda K. and Richard Hartle, also of Plymouth.
Ten grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren survive.
Three sisters and three brothers survive as well. They are: Treva (Wendell) Nelson and Wilma
Ambler, all of Plymouth: Ellen (Bruce) Snyder, Toledo, Ohio: and Lester (Sue) Read, James
(Barbara) Read and Jay Read, all of Plymouth.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and an infant son, Robert Dean
Flosenzier.
Ruth’s family invites her friends to come and celebrate her life and share memories with them on
Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N.
Michigan St., Plymouth.
Additional visitation will be after 7 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the funeral home and for one
hour prior to the funeral services.
Funeral services for Ruth will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17, in Sunrise Chapel,
11802 Lincoln Highway, Plymouth, officiated by Pastor Rustin Krapfl.
Interment will be in New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorial gifts in Ruth’s memory may be made to Sunrise Chapel Missions.
Irvin E. Brown
KNOX — Irvin E. Brown, 77, of Knox, died Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Center for Hospice &
Palliative Care, South Bend.
He is survived by his wife, Emily Brown, one daughter, Kim and John Pulliam of Plymouth, one
son, Rick and Patti Brown of Merritt Island, Fla., two step-daughters, Linda Reinholt of Monterey
and Mary Wilcox of Knox and two step-sons, Harold Sutton of Monterey and Robert Sutton of
Kewanna; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. CDT at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet.
Cremation will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made
to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
Merlin J Hochstetler
NAPPANEE — Merlin J. Hochstetler, 53, died Saturday, Oct. 13, at 3:55 p.m. following an accident.
He is survived by his wife, Katie Hochstetler of Nappanee, his children, Samuel K. and Michelle
Schwartz of Nappanee and Susan Elaine Hochstetler of Nappanee, his grandson, Kaden
Schwartz; brothers, Robert L. and Mary Etta Hochstetler of Milford, David A. Hochstetler of Etna
Green and Mark and May Eileen Hochstetler of Bremen; and sisters Mary Jane and Atlee
Bontrager of Nappanee, Margaret and Lloyd Miller of Etna Green, Carol C. and Leon Stutzman
of Nappanee, Lora Jean and Paul Miller of Nappanee and Marlene and Gerald Hochstetler of
Salem.
Visitation will be at the family residence, all day Monday. Services will be at the Steve Borkholder
residence, 72990 CR 101, Nappanee, Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. with Bishop Lonnie Slabaugh of the
Old Order Amish Church officiating. Burial will be at Weldy cemetery, Nappanee. Arrangements
are with Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
Ethel "Jackie" Radican
Ethel “Jackie” Radican, 66, of Zapata, Texas, formerly of Bremen, passed away on Saturday,
Oct. 13, 2007, in Zapata, Texas. She was born on Nov. 3, 1940, in South Bend to Jack & Bertha
(Cochran) Stanifer.
She married
Robert Radican on New Year’s Eve, 1968. He preceded her in death in 1998.
Jackie lived in Bremen most of her life and spent the last 14 years in South Texas. She loved to
cook and bake to share with others. Jackie wrote a weekly gardening column for her local
newspaper in Texas. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed mysteries. She learned to
fish from her father and enjoyed it her whole life. She enjoyed working with special needs
children. Jackie graduated from Bremen High School in 1958.
Survivors include three sons: James (Tammie) Radican of Plymouth, Joseph Radican of Zapata,
Texas and Kirk Radican of Virginia; one daughter, Margaret (Billy) Knowles of Mishawaka; five
grandchildren: Christian & Ian Radican of Plymouth, Nichole & Brandon Knowles of Mishawaka,
Michael Radican of Virginia; one brother, Doug Stanifer of Bremen; one sister, Pat Dobrunst of
Bremen, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, George Stanifer.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen.
Pastor Wilson Shabaz will officiate. Burial will follow at Bremen cemetery. Friends may call from
4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, at the funeral home.

John Lowell Brown
PLYMOUTH – John Lowell Brown, 11942 4A Road, Plymouth, died on Monday, Oct. 15, 2007,
at 10:50 p.m. in Broadway Methodist Hospital of Merrillville, following complications from open
heart surgery. He was 83 years old.
Born in Teegarden on Jan. 29, 1924, John was the son of John Madison and Lyla Trump Brown.
He graduated from Tyner High School with the class of 1942, and served in the United States
Navy during World War II.
John and his wife of almost 63 years, Virginia Goss Brown, were married
on Jan. 20, 1945, in
Norfolk, Va. He worked at Studebakers both before and after the war. He was employed there
for 15 years before moving on to work at Bendix for the next 15 years.
He then retired and became the maintence man at the Marshall County Building. He was a
member of the Marshall County Civil Defense team for more than 30 years. John also raised and
bred national and world champion Palomino quarter horses. He was a member of the American
Quarter Horse Association.
John is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters. His son is Rodney (Sheryl) Brown, Kizer,
Ore., and his daughters are Marcia (Robert) Rettinger, Plymouth and Joyce (Todd) Kanarr,
Waucoma, Iowa. His grandchildren were John’s pride and joy. They are Rick Brown, Dawn
Kinney, Robin Smith, Sabrina and Samantha Kanarr. Eight great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter
survive as well, together with a sister, Marie Trump of Florida.
John was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Sue Ellen Brown, three brothers
and a sister.
Friends are invited to celebrate the life of John Lowell Brown with his family on Thursday, Oct.
18, 2007, from 3 to 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St.,
Plymouth.
Funeral services for John will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, in the funeral home.
Brother Mark Klingerman, an elder of the Plymouth Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses,
where John was a member, will officiate.
Burial will be in New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorial gifts in memory of John may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Karen Cripe Collins
Karen Cripe Collins, 53, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Bremen, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007 in
Naples.
She is survived by her children: Clay Michael Collins and Molly Shae Collins, both of Naples; her
partner, Alfred J. DiMatties of Naples; parents, Neil and Doris Cripe of Bremen; brother, Scott
(Jody) Cripe of South Bend; sisters: Patricia (Brent) Lineberry of Bremen and Kay (John) Kelley
of Warsaw; three nephews and a niece.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24 at the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen. Burial
will follow in Bremen cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Eloise June Balmer
BOURBON — Eloise J. Balmer, 77, a resident of Bourbon since 1992, died on Oct. 16, 2007 in
South Bend, following an extended illness. Eloise has always known the existence of God and
has had guidance from Him several times throughout the years.
She was born in Lakeville June 20, 1930 the daughter of James R. and Laura M. Terwilliger
Beam. She graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1948.
Her life involved traveling and living in different areas of the United States. She resided in
Indiana, Florida and Minnesota and had visited Texas and California.
Eloise had enlisted into the Army in 1948 as a nurse in training during the Korean Conflict. After
being discharged from the service, she married
LaVon R. Balmer on March 23, 1952 in
Plymouth. LaVon preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 2001.
Eloise was never without a friend. She could talk to anyone at anytime. She kept active in the
communities in which she lived while raising four children. She had served on the Bremen
School’s PTA, the Bremen Hospital Auxiliary, worked the election polls in Cass Lake, Minn. And
named several roads in the Cass County, Ten Lakes Township. She was also a member of the
Disabled American Veteran’s Association and the local sheriff’s association. Eloise had attended
Riverside Methodist Church near Bremen and Foster’s Chapel near Bourbon. She had worked
at Teal’s Grocery store in Cass Lake, the Bendix factory in South Bend, and Meyer’s Nursing
Home in Bremen. Eloise’s “green thumb” was busy during the years she operated a small
greenhouse on the farm filled with geraniums and tomatoes.
She is survived by her two sons: Larry W. Balmer and his wife Marsha, of Plymouth and Walter
R. “Dick” Balmer and his wife Jill, of Bremen; two daughters: Yvonne E. Balmer and husband
James R. Shirley of Bloomington and Darla K. Finnegan and husband Pat of Bemidji, Minn.
Grandchildren include Melissa (Todd) Ferguson of Argos; Adam (Deidre) Balmer of Warner
Robins, Ga.; Valerie (Chris) Unruh of LaPaz; Scotty Finnegan of Bemidji, Minn.; Amanda
Hershberger of Kailua, Hawaii; and Brooke Hershberger of Bremen. Her remaining siblings are
Rhea Johnston of Phoenix, Ariz. And Anita Wamsley of Medina, Ohio. She has several nieces
and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and six great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to celebrate Eloise’s life and share memories of her from 5 to 7 p.m. on
Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Services will follow visitation at 7 p.m. in the funeral home with her nephew Rev. John Hand
presiding. Military honors will be accorded Eloise by members of the D.A.V. Chapter 42 assisted
by members of Plymouth V.F.W. Post 1162 immediately following services at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Oak Hill cemetery, Plymouth.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given in Eloise’s name to the Disabled American
Veteran’s Association.
