Margaret R. Zinn
BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Margaret R. Zinn, 87, resident of Bridgewater Retirement Village, died
Sunday morning, Aug. 19, 2007, of respiratory failure after a struggle of several months.
Mrs. Zinn was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Bourbon, to Willard and Estella Yazel Sellers. She attended
school in Bourbon, graduating in 1937, and in 1939, she married
her high school sweetheart,
Philip Zinn, who survives her.
Mrs. Zinn was a lifelong learner. She was a homemaker as her six children grew up, along with
serving the Church of the Brethren in several states as pastor’s wife, Sunday school teacher,
pianist and chorister. She also did clerical work at Bridgewater College for a few years and
worked in the SERRV Gift Shop in Houston, Texas. She served on many church and
organizational committees and boards, and was an active volunteer, primarily in Tampa, Fla.:
five years for Hospice, 20 years as a reader for Radio Reading for the Visually Handicapped,
and eight years as a Programmed Patient for medical students at the University of South Florida.
She also pursued many other interests: she was an avid reader and letter-writer, wrote poetry
and compiled a book of her verse in 1998, quilted with a church group, participated in
Leaveners, a women’s discussion group, and performed in musical presentations.
Five of their six children survive: Rebecca and husband Wayne Liskey, of Harrisonburg, Va.;
Marty and husband Pete Hill, of Athens, Ohio; Dan and wife Anneliese, of Colrain, Mass.; John
and wife Sandy, of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; and Tim and wife Sara, of Houston, Texas. Other
survivors include sister Velma and husband Dale Bules, and sister Lorna (and husband John,
deceased) Miller, all of Bourbon, and a favorite aunt, Evelyn Moody, of Port Charlotte, Fla. Mrs.
Zinn was blessed with 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Noelle Zinn Neff Webb, who died in 1997.
A memorial service will be held at Bridgewater Church of the Brethren on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 2
p.m., and a special remembrance will be held at Lantz Chapel in Bridgewater Retirement Village
on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 3 p.m. An extended family memorial gathering is planned for Oct. 13 in
Bourbon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Bridgewater Healthcare

William Kenneth Luty
BOURBON — William Kenneth Luty, 98, a resident of 5888 14th Rd. Bourbon, passed away
Monday, Aug. 20, 2007 at 6:40 a.m. in Miller‘s Merry Manor Nursing Home of Plymouth.
Kenneth was born the son of John W. Luty and Minnie Cavanaugh Luty on Sept. 12, 1908 in
Bourbon, on the very farm where he had lived his entire life.
He was joined in marriage on Sept. 12, 1929 to Mae Iola Renas who preceded in death Oct. 28,
1985. He then married
Elizabeth Craige Dec. 29, 1987; she passed away May 30, 2003.
He is survived by his two children: Sue Sell of Plymouth and Bob and Mary Lou Luty of
Mishawaka. He was also blessed with six grandchildren; Lou Ann and Bob Alger of Orlando,
Fla., Tony L. and Jackie Sell of Bourbon, Cindy and Dave Sherrier of McCordsville, Laurie Luty
of Celebration, Fla., Terry and Martha Sell of Bourbon and Lisa Morin of Granger and 11 great-grandchildren.
He also has a great-great-grandchild and three nieces who survive.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers: Arthur and Carl.
Kenneth was a graduate of Bourbon High School, class of 1926. He was a retired farmer, retiring
at the age of 72. He was past treasurer of the Bethel cemetery. He enjoyed fishing and reading
and his family was very important. He was a faithful member of the Bethel Church and later
became a member of the Bourbon First United Methodist Church.
Funeral services to celebrate Kenneth’s life will be held Thursday, Aug. 23 at 2 p.m. in the
Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home at 115 S. Main St. Bourbon.
There will be a time of visiting and sharing memories with the family on Thursday, from 11 a.m.
until the time of the services at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in the Oak Hill cemetery at Plymouth.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Bourbon First United Methodist Church in his
memory.

Milton Albert McGee
PLYMOUTH — Milton Albert McGee, 86, formerly of 15374 U.S. Hwy. 6, Plymouth, died of
natural causes at Miller’s Merry Manor, Walkerton, at 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007. He
had been a Plymouth resident since 1948.
Milton was born on March 2, 1921 in Walters, Okla. He was the son of John Alla and Ollie Marie
Stewart McGee.
He graduated from Blue High School, Walters, Okla., in 1941. Milt had worked for the C.C.C.
prior to his high school graduation.
An Oklahoma native, he rough-necked it in the oil fields before the war.
Milt served in World War II as the radio operator on a B-24 bomber and would also man the
plane’s top gun when the action got hot.
He and his crew were part of the 425th Bomb Squadron in the 308th Bomb Group stationed out
of Kunming, China. He and his crew flew 69 missions, and all of his mates survived after being
shot down over China.
Among his medals are the Air Medal with oak leaf clusters, the Purple Heart with oak leaf
clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross which was awarded by Gen. Claire Chenault.
On July 29, 1944, Milton and Edna Marie Hoffman were married
in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church,
Chicago. Edna preceded him in death on June 24, 2006.
Milt worked at Bendix for 32 years as a refrigeration and air-conditioning engineer.
He enjoyed hunting, farming, gardening, camping, fishing and spending time with his family,
especially attending the sporting events of his children and grandchildren.
Milt was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Plymouth, where he was an Elder and Trustee.
He also belonged to the V.F.W. and the National Rifle Association.
Milt leaves his loving family; three sons: John A. and wife Sharon McGee, Wayne M. and wife
Cheryl McGee, all of Walkerton and Thomas C. and wife Susan McGee of Plymouth, a
daughter: Janis K and spouse Dan Malicki of Klamath Falls, Oregon along with seven
granddaughters: Megan Hellickson, Kari Snyder, Katie McGee, Caitlin Malicki, Tara McGee,
Molly McGee and Carlin Malicki and a grandson: Andrew McGee and great granddaughter:
Alexis Snyder.
A sister: Billie Lewis of Dennison, Texas; two nieces and two nephews also survive.
Friends are invited to celebrate the life of Milton McGee from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday,
Aug. 23, 2007, in the Calvary Lutheran Church, 1314 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. Funeral
services will be held at 1 p.m. in the Church with the Rev. Steven Resner officiating.
Burial will be in Morris cemetery on U.S. 6 west of LaPaz, where Military Rites will be accorded
by the Plymouth American Legion Post 27 and the Plymouth V.F.W. Post 1162.
Memorial gifts may be given in Milt’s memory to the church.

Vida J. Pearson
UPLAND — Vida J. Pearson, 91, died at her home Tuesday, August 21, 2007 in rural Grant
County after an extended illness and has gone home to be with her Lord and Savior.
She was a member of the Marion Retired Teachers Assn., the American Assn, of University
Women, the Grant Co. Extension Homemakers Club, and the YWCA Board, of which she was a past
President and Kappa Delta Pi Sorority. She was a life long and faithful member of the Oak
Chapel United Methodist Church, where she served in several capacities, including Missions
Board and delegate to the State Methodist Conference for many years.
Mrs. Pearson was born Jan 13. 1916 to Jay Livingston Townsend and Blanche Ethel (Gillespie)
Townsend in rural Grant County, and attended Walnut Creek School, a one-room school in
Monroe Township. She graduated from Upland High School in 1933. She earned her Bachelors
of Science degree, her Masters of Secondary Education, and her Masters of Counseling from
Ball State University, and completed her Education Specialist (EdS) degree from Purdue
University. During her career as an education professional she touched the lives of many
students and their families through her roles as a 4th grade teacher, a Home Economics
teacher, a Reading Specialist, and an Elementary Counselor in Marion Schools, Jackson School
in Wells Co., and Montpelier in Blackford Co. She was a 4-H leader for many years as well.
She is survived by her children, Jerry J. (Barbara), Plymouth, Harry L. (Betty Jo), Hartford City,
Joseph R. (Anne), Hartford City, Joan (Bruce) McQuaid, Parker, Colorado, and Betsy (Larry)
Underwood, West Lafayette, a brother, Wayne (Helen) Townsend, Hartford City.
Mrs. Pearson was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, adored by her 16 grandchildren, 39
great grandchildren, and four step great-grandchildren, who also survive her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil L. Pearson to whom she was married
for 69
years before his death in 2004, son, Ted, infant son, Lavaughn, and by her siblings, Martha
Townsend, James Townsend, George Townsend, and Mary (Townsend) Burks.

Madene Turee
PLYMOUTH — Madene Tyree, 76, died Friday evening at St. Joseph Regional Hospital in
Plymouth, Indiana, after a short illness. She was born in Little Rock, Ark., on Jan. 20, 1931, to
Chester and Ruby Benoit.
She was married
to John Donald Tyree and spent most of her life in Tipp City, Ohio, before they
moved to Plymouth, to live with their only child, Daniel, and his family.
Mrs. Tyree is survived by her son, Daniel and wife Charlotte of Plymouth, and three
grandchildren, Katie, Nancy and Jonathan. Her step-brother, Bruce Benoit of California, also
survives.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Visitation will be held at Frings-Bayliff Funeral Home, 327 W. Main St., Tipp City, Ohio, on
Monday, Aug. 27, from 5 to 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tipp City, on
Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 3 p.m. Interment will follow at St. John’s cemetery.

Scholarship Fund, and can be sent to Plymouth High School Speech, #1 Big Red Drive,
