His father, Emery Jefferson Slone is deceased. His mother, Kathy (Schultz) Brubaker survives at North Manchester. Also surviving are a son, Ethan Michael Schultz, Roann, IN; a daughter, Emilee Erin Schultz, Roann, IN and a brother, Scott Schultz, Roann, IN. CHESTER B. ALLEN, 81, FORMERLY OF SILVER LAKE, IN
Chester B. Allen, 81, formerly of Silver Lake, IN died at 1: 05 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2009 in Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester. He was born at Magoffin County, KY on March 30, 1928 to Smith & Hattie (Howard) Allen. On February 11, 1946 he married
Naomi Ruth Oney. She died January 5, 2005. Chester had been a supervisor at the former Bryan Manufacturing in North Manchester and retired from Kinder Manufacturing at Warsaw in 1992. Surviving are one son, Chet Allen Jr., Fort Wayne, IN; two daughters, Mrs. Lynn (Dianna) Parker, Silver Lake, IN and Mrs. Phil (Debbie) Zile, North Manchester. Twenty-two grandchildren and forty-two great-grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Canton (Ella Ree) Moore, Claypool, IN. One daughter, Patricia Parker died February 18, 1998. (Ripple) Sutton. She retired in 1997 from United Technologies, North Manchester, IN after 15 years. She was affiliated with the Wabash Freewill Baptist Church at Erie Street, Wabash, IN. Dorothy Marie Nordman, 83, North Manchester, IN died at 12: 15 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2009 in Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester. She was born April 28, 1925 in Wabash County, IN to Herman Otto & Hannah Margret (Ferdinand) Nordman. She retired in 1989 from Controls Co. of America. She was a lifelong member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and a devoted daughter to her parents. Surviving are a sister-in-law, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary K. Lynch, 75, Claypool, IN died at 7: 47 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2009 in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, IN. She was born July 25, 1933 in Bonanza, KY to Jack & Biddie (Hackworth) Merritt. On March 1, 1953 she married
Rex E. Lynch. He survives. Also surviving are a son, Edward E. Lynch, Claypool, IN and a daughter, Jane A. (William) Helblig Jr., Warsaw, IN. A brother, James (Bonnie) Merritt, Sidney, IN; two sisters, Irene Kraft, Kenton, OH and Beatrice Hackworth, Warsaw, IN. Three grandchildren, Jennica, Dustin and Eric Helblig. Two brothers and two sisters are deceased. Mary graduated from Sidney High School in 1950. She was a member of the Jackson Jr.'s Home Ec Club and a former member of the Sidney Elementary School PTA. She was a member of the Packerton United Methodist Church where she taught adult sunday school for many years.She was a homemaker and farm wife. Dr. Larry D. Sharpless, 71, North Manchester, IN died Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 2: 48 a.m. in Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester, IN. He was born in Willard, Ohio on November 7, 1937 to Williard & Stella (Lynch) Sharpless. On August 1, 1958 he married
Joyce Coppler. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Mark Sharpless, Grosse Point Park, MI. Two daughters, Faith (Mark) Lunsford, Wake Forest, NC and Hope (Jim) Sobetski, Brownstown, MI. Four sisters, Judy Nye, Leesburg, FL; Cindy Lamer, Zeeland, MI; Sherry Johnston, Port Clinton, OH and Mary Ellen French. Four grandchildren. He was a US Navy veteran and a Presbyterian minister for 27 years. He graduated from Fostoria (Ohio) High School. He began studies at Gordon College in Boston, MA and finished his BA degree at Cedarville Collge, Cedarville, OH. He received his Masters Degree from Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL in 1968 and his Doctorate Degree from Trinity Seminary, Chicago, IL in 1987. He served churchs in Horeshoe, NC; Detroit, MI; and for 3 years at the Winona Lake Presbyterian Church, Winona Lake, IN. SERVICES WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT A LATER DATE.

Richard L. Shanahan, 72, Barbee Lake, IN died at 12: 50 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009 in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, IN. He was born September 5, 1936 in Wabash County, IN to Paul & Gladys E. (Teems) Shanahan. He graduated from Chester High School, North Manchester, IN in 1954 and attended Michigan State University, Farrier School. He was a US Army Veteran 1954-1956. He was a member of the Eel River Community Church of the Brethren, Silver Lake, IN and American Legion Post 253, North Webster, IN. He was a Credit Manager for Our Sunday Visitor, Huntington, IN retiring in 2000. On September 18, 1960 he married
Sandra K. Maloy. She died February 22, 2007. He is survived by one son, Sean (Pam) Shanahan, Columbia City, IN, one daughter, Tana (Terry) Moore, Jackson, TN, one sister, Patricia (Larry) Stackhouse, Bozeman, MT and six grandchildren. DR. A. BLAIR HELMAN, 88, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN
Dr. A. Blair Helman, 88, North Manchester, IN died Sunday, March 22, 2009 in Timbercrest Healthcare Center. He was born on Christmas Day in Windber, PA to Henry & Luie (Pritt) Helman in 1920. On June 22, 1947 he married
Patricia Kennedy. She preceded him in death October 28, 2005. He graduated from Windber High School. Following high school he worked as a coal miner for the White-Berwin mines for three years to help support his family before he was able to attend college. He then enrolled in Bethany Bible Training School in Chicago, IL and went on to complete his college degree at McPherson College, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. His Masters and Doctoral studies were conducted at the University of Kansas. He was pastor of three Church of the Brethren congregations in Kansas during those years in Newton, Ottawa, and Wichita. In 1956 he was named President of Manchester College at age 35. During his 30-year tenure, he started the Brethren Colleges Abroad Program, put emphasis on the International Peace Program, and was instrumental in adding sixteen buildings to the campus. He traveled to over 30 countries due to his passion for international study. He received five honorary doctorate degrees from Indiana University, Manchester College, Bridgewater College, McPherson College, and Juniata College. Among the many honors he received were, Indiana Academy in 1987- limited to 100 living members, Sagamore of the Wabash- the highest award the Governor of Indiana can bestow, Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International Foundation, Award for dedication to Indiana Higher Education. Some of Dr. Helman's offices and board appointments include, Commission on Arms Control Education from the United Nations, Board of Directors for the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities; President for the Indiana Conference of Higher Education; Chairman and Interim President of the Council of Protestant Colleges and Universities; President of the Associated Colleges of Indiana and the President's Advisory Committee for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA); policy board for the Department of Higher Education, National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA; and moderator of the Church of the Brethren- highest elective office in the denomination. After retirement the Helman's lived in Fort Wayne, IN where Dr. Helman was a member of the Fort Wayne Downtown Rotary Club and the Quest Club. He was a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren. In his personal life his greatest joy was seen in his relationships with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by two daughters, Bunny Hill (Patrick), Wichita, KS and Patty Magaro (Raymond), Columbus, IN. Grandchildren; Hamilton, Harrison and Katie Hill; Matthew and Marshall Magaro. RONALD L. FRUITT, 72, WEST LAFAYETTE, IN
Ronald L. Fruitt, 72, of West Lafayette, IN died March 18, 2009 in Kosciusko County, IN. He was born on February 25, 1937 at Wabash County, Indiana to Floyd H. & Josephine M. (Shipley) Fruitt. On June 14, 1959 he married
Phyllis Ross. She survives. He graduated from Sidney High School in 1954, Purdue University in 1959 and received his Masters degree from Purdue in 1965. Ron started his career at Purdue University in 1962 having positions that ranged from Hall Manager to eventually Vice President of Housing and Food Services. Under his responsibilities at Purdue were the Purdue Student Union, Elliott Hall of Music, and the Black Cultural Center. He retired in 1996 with the honorary title of Vice President Emeritus. He served as a special assistant to the director of the Purdue Alumni Association for 5 years after his retirement. Ron dedicated his life to help others and always found time to help those in need. He was a member of Lynn Treece Boys Club, board of directors of Home Hospital, chairman of Tippecanoe County United Way, and board of directors president of Westminster Village. He was former chairman of the Tippecanoe County Republican Party, former member of the Tippecanoe County Council and a member of Ag Extension of Tippecanoe County. While at Purdue he was involved in Sir Sire of the Purdue Glee Club, advisor to The Rheamer Club, and awarded Old Masters Honorary from the university. He was an avid supporter of all Purdue athletics being heavily involved with the John Purdue Club, Downtown Grid Iron Club, and Fast Breakers. Ron and Phyllis only missed four home football games since 1962. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, West Lafayette. Surviving are three sons; Mark Fruitt, David Fruitt, Steven (Debbie) Fruitt, all of West Lafayette, IN. One daughter, Nancy (Dave) Halsema, Springboro, OH. Three brothers, Eldon (Marianne) Fruitt, Danny (Debbie) Fruitt, both of North Manchester, IN and Leon (Addie) Fruitt, Florida. Sis sisters; Joan Franklin, Ft. EGON W. BORGMANN, 72, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN
Egon W. Borgmann, 72, North Manchester, IN died at 6: 00 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2009 in his residence. Over the last year he had overcome a series of obstacles in his recovery from injuries sustained in an auto accident in March 2008, and had successfully reclaimed his life and place in the community. He was born March 16, 1936 in Stettin, Germany, resettling with his family in Uelzen, Germany, in 1945 as a war refugee. He came to the United State as an exchange student in 1953 where he stayed with the family of Carl and Doreen Myers in Roaring Spring, PA. There he met his future wife, Sandra Over. After returning to Germany and serving an apprenticeship in Import/Export, he immigrated to the United States. He married
Sandra on June 25, 1960. He subsequently graduated from Temple University and received an M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He worked for the Dupont Company in Wilmington, Delaware before committing his energies to starting his own buisness in international marketing and teaching in the business program at Ursinus College. Most recently he worked as the Finance Director at the Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula. After retirement, he moved with his wife Sandra to North Manchester, IN where he was an active member of the Manchester Church of the Brethren. He was the beloved and courageous father of three children and grandfather of seven grandchildren. He enjoyed soccer, canoeing, hiking, reading, and taking on new challenges. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Sandra Borgmann, she died March 3, 2008, and his parents, Margarete and Walter Borgmann. He is survived by his children, Karin (John) Borgmann-Winter of Conshohocken, PA, R. Kurt (Loyce) Borgmann of North Manchester, IN, Kevin (Haise) Borgmann of Washington, DC, sister, Inge Whelpdale of Dalington, England and seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Manchester Church of the Brethren, Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 2: 00 p.m. with visiting to follow. Surviving are her mother, Blanche Estep, North Manchester, IN; a son, James Finch, Akron, IN; a daughter, Terena Finch, Tampa, FL. Opal J. Stine, 84, North Manchester, IN died at 4: 00 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2009 in Peabody Healthcare Center. She was born October 20, 1924 in Huntington, IN to Harry & Nora (Thompson) Williams. On October 16, 1949 she married
Wilbur B. Stine. He died October 27, 1996. Opal had been employed with Heckman Bindrey for several years. Surviving are three sons, Larry (Sally) Stine, Poway, CA ; Marvin (Carol) Stine, North Manchester, IN ; James (Nancy) Stine, Goshen, IN ; three grandchildren and three step grandchildren.
