Raymond Zeiger
BREMEN — Raymond Zeiger, 71, of Bremen, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008 at his home.
He is survived by three sisters: Mary Zeiger of Bremen, Katherine (Jim) Doyle of Warsaw and
Toots (Ed) Parot of Bremen; a brother, John (Pam) Zeiger of Bremen; several nieces and
nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will take place on hour before services Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 10 a.m. at St. Dominic’s
Catholic Church, Bremen.
Funeral services will take place at the church Tuesday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Bremen
cemetery.
The Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St. Rd. 331 Bremen, is in charge of arrangements.
Gary Wayne Barr
NAPPANEE — Gary Wayne Barr, 62, of Newcomer Street, Nappanee, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008 at 1: 30 a.m. at Rivercrest Specialty Hospital, Mishawaka after being ill for eight years following a stroke.
He is survived by his wife Judy; two sons: Bryan (Dale) Barr and Doug Barr, both of Nappanee; two granddaughters; a brother, Ken (Loretta) Barr of Plymouth; two sisters: Judy (David) Watts of North Carolina and Anita Condon of Bourbon and mother and father-in-law Harold and Florence Surface of Nappanee.
Visitation will take place Friday, Jan. 2 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, 950 N. Main St., Nappanee.
Funeral services will take place Saturday, Jan. 3 at the funeral home at 10: 30 a.m. Burial will follow at I.O.O.F. cemetery, Tyner. Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Kathleen E. Bushey
OAK FOREST, Ill. — Kathleen E. Bushey, 84, died Dec. 22, 2008 in Lemont, Ill.
Survivors include two daughters: Cynthia Turon of Henderson, Ky. And Janet Szczender of Oak
Forest, Ill.; one granddaughter; two sisters: Frances Legate of Phoenix and Mildred Lotter of
Henderson, Ky.; and one brother, James Zirkle of Redding, Calif.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 16 at 12 p.m. (Central Time) at Rannells Funeral
Home, Hamlet Chapel. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Saturday from 10 a.m. until the
time of services.
Charles Theodore Duff
CULVER — Charles Theodore Duff of Culver died on Sunday, Dec. 28, of Parkinson’’’s disease.
He was 76.
Mr. Duff was an artist whose work was shown and admired across North America and Europe.
He worked in a variety of media, including watercolor, egg tempura, wax encaustic, pastel and
printmaking. He was born in Charleston, W. Va., on Oct. 25, 1932. He spent most of his
childhood on his grandfather’’’s farm in West Virginia, where his artistic interest was piqued by
the hilly terrain, green grass and rustic charm, and grew as he traveled and lived throughout the
United States and abroad. “What I paint is nature. It’’’s not realism, but what lies behind nature
that I am trying to capture the spirit, ” he once said. His work has been shown in Indiana, New
York, Connecticut, Virginia, Scotland and Italy, and hangs on walls of patrons around the world.
Mr. Duff had an unending curiosity and interest in learning. He was an avid organic gardener. He
loved classical music and nature, and he was fascinated with math and languages. Friends and
family described him as a walking encyclopedia and knew that if they did not have the answer to
something, Charlie would.
After graduating from high school at age 16, Mr. Duff earned a bachelor’’’s degree in geology
and German from the University of Miami, Fla., and a master’’’s degree in printmaking and
painting from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, N.Y. He also studied at Edinburgh College of Art,
Scotland, where he met his wife, Anne.
Mr. Duff taught fine arts as a master instructor at Culver Academies for 20 years and as an
adjunct professor at Ancilla College for eight years. His calm, steady and supportive demeanor
created an ideal environment for his students to create and learn. He also worked as a
cartographer and illustrator at the U.S. Naval and Oceanographic Office in Washington, D.C. He
served in the U.S. Air Force as a fighter pilot and was based in England during the Korean War.
He is survived by Anne, sons Timothy Duff and Jeremy Duff, daughter Susanna Barnett,
daughters-in-law Jane Duff and Becky Duff, son-in-law Jim Barnett, granddaughters Erica Duff
and Katie Barnett, and grandsons Graham Duff and Henry Barnett.
A Requiem Mass will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Plymouth on Friday, Jan. 2, at
11 a.m. A short reception will follow. There will be no visitation.

Wanda J. Houghton
SOUTH BEND — Wanda J. Houghton, 82, of 53376 Wallace Lane, South Bend, formerly of
Plymouth passed away Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at 9: 34 a.m. at Saint Joseph Regional Medical
Center in South Bend.
Wanda was born on March 26, 1926, in Plymouth, to Elnora (Brandt) Ward. She had been
married
to William Houghton Sr.
Wanda was a caregiver for Pathfinders, in Plymouth, and had been an active member of the
Ladies Auxiliary at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, in Plymouth.
Wanda is survived by her daughters: Catherine and Michael Osowski of South Bend, Patricia
and Gary Crum of Plymouth, and Marsha Martin of Plymouth; her son, Richard and Caryl
Houghton of Indianapolis; her grandchildren: Jonathan Houghton, Ted Houghton, Alex
Houghton, Chris Houghton, Jeff Houghton, Mathew Houghton, Nicholas Crum, Lauren Crum,
Nicole Osowski, David Osowski, Alexandra Osowski, Mary Osowski, and David Milner; four
great-grandchildren; her sisters: Florence Erickson of Plymouth, Phyllis Jernstrom of Plymouth,
Donna Bennett of Arkansas, and Norma Beatty of Texas.
Wanda was preceded in death by her son, William Houghton Jr.; her mother, Elnora Ward; her
sisters: Lillian Avon Ward and Thelma Scheetz; and her brother, Thurman Ward.
Funeral services for Wanda will be held Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at 10: 30 a.m., at the Van Gilder
Funeral Home with the Rev. Steven Resner with officiating.
A time of visiting with the Houghton family will be on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, from 2 to 6 p.m. at
the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, IN 46563.
The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Heart Association or to the
Ladies Auxiliary of Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, in Plymouth.
Clyde W., Jr. Smith
BOURBON — Clyde W. Smith Jr., 72, of Bourbon, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008 at 10: 41 a.m. in
his home.
He is survived by his wife, Suzanne; children: Angie (Tim) Lovegrove, Dorothy Smith, Tammy
(Mike) Cook, Butch (Pam) Smith, all of Kokomo, Linda Anger of Michigan, William Smith and
Jessica (Justin) Stoddar, all of Bourbon, J.D. Doty of Mentone, Jeananne Doty and Jacob Doty,
all of Bourbon; 28 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister,
Mary Linda (Tom) Haley of Georgia; and brothers: Ralph (Pam) Smith of Washington, D.C. and
Tom (Mary) Smith of Michigan.
Visitation is Wednesday, Dec. 31 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home,
Bourbon. Graveside services will follow at 3: 15 p.m. in the Pleasant Hill cemetery at Bourbon
with military services by the Bourbon American Legion.
Wilma Jean (Frey) Buck
BREMEN — Wilma Jean (Frey) Buck, 83, of Bremen, formerly of Bremen, died Monday, Dec.
29, 2008 at Community Hospital of Bremen.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Buck of Bremen; children: David (Jan) Buck of
Nappanee, Dennis (Jane) Buck of Bremen, Debi (Richard) Matteson of Rockwall, Texas, Diane
(Michael) Mann of Sharpsburg, Ga. and Dawn (Curt) Carius of Morton, Ill.; 18 grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; and sisters: Letty (Robert) Hueni of Bremen and Betty (Lloyd) Schumacher
of Washington, Ill.
Visitation is Thursday, Jan. 1 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen. A graveside
service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2 at Bremen cemetery. A memorial service will be
held following burial at Community Gospel Church in Bremen.

Donnie "Don" L. Haas
PLYMOUTH — Donnie “Don” L. Haas, 68, of Plymouth, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008 in Saint
Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
He is survived by his wife, Carol (Grass) Haas of Plymouth; two daughters: Carrie (Paul) Harrell
and Kelli (Keith) Snyder; son, Gregory (Sheila) Haas; six grandchildren; four sisters: Midge
Bradford, Rowena Beery, Eunice Beery and Gertrude Shinneman; four brothers: Herbert, Lyle,
Ervin and Ron Haas.
Funeral services will be held at 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009 in the County Line Brethren
Church, 69988 U.S. 31 S., Lakeville. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Palmer Funeral
Home, 314 S. Michigan St. Lakeville and one hour prior to the services in the church on
Saturday.
Thomas A. Huggins
WINONA LAKE — Thomas A. Huggins, 75, of The Pass of Winona Lake, died Monday, Dec.
29, 2008 at 5: 20 a.m. at Parkview Hospital of Fort Wayne.
He is survived by daughters: Donna (Rick) Hackworth of Warsaw and Deb Cosgrove of Winona
Lake; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sisters: Beverly (Bill) Long of Hoffman Lake
and Peg (Bill) Baumgartner of Lake Placid, Fla.
Visitation is Thursday, Jan. 1 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home,
Bourbon. Funeral services are Friday, Jan. 2 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be at
Pleasant Hill cemetery, Bourbon.

Larry A. Paxton
OKEECHOBEE, Fla. — Larry A. Paxton, 71, of 1 Lemon St. B.H.R., Okeechobee, Fla., formerly
of Bourbon, died at 3: 05 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2008 at Hendry Regional Medical Center,
Clewiston, Fla. He was born Jan. 11, 1937 in Warsaw to Donald and Alta (Hemminger) Paxton.
Larry was a graduate of Etna Green High School. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He
retired from Biomet in Warsaw where he was a polisher. He moved to Okeechobee, Fla., where
he was an avid fisherman. He was a member of the Bourbon American Legion Post #424, VFW
of Rochester, The Eagles Lodge #852 of Rochester and the Moose of Warsaw. He also
attended the First Methodist Church, Okeechobee, Fla.
He is survived by two daughters: Lori (Chalmer) Campbell of Akron and Lisa (Mark) Nifong of
Plymouth; one son, Dayton A. Paxton of Claypool; and three grandchildren: Travis (Sally)
Campbell, Corey Campbell and Morgan Nifong.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Donna Groshuns.
Visitation is Friday, Jan. 2 from 12 to 2 p.m. at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St.,
Mentone. Funeral services are Friday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Terry Canfield
officiating.
Burial will be at Etna Green cemetery, where graveside military rites will be performed by the
Bourbon American Legion Post #424.

Juanita P. Teghtmeyer
AKRON — Juanita P. Teghtmeyer, 86, of Akron, died at 6: 22 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2008 at
Memorial Hospital, South Bend. She is survived by a son, Allen Teghtmeyer of Florence, Ariz.;
five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Lovie Mathias of Akron; and half brother,
Nelson Bowen of Cleveland, Ohio.
Visitation is Thursday, Jan. 1 from 4 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to services Friday at the Good
Family Funeral Home, Rochester. Funeral services are Friday, Jan. 2 at 10 a.m. at the funeral
home. Burial will be at Omega cemetery.
Diane Christine Bauer
MONTEREY — Diane Christine Bauer, 40, of N. Maple St., Monterey, died Tuesday, Dec. 30,
2008 at 6: 15 a.m. at St. Vincent Medical Center, Indianapolis.
She is survived by a son, Kaleb P. Bauer of Monterey; three sisters: Janice Stotler of Monterey,
Francine (Thomas) Turflinger of Bloomington and Carolyn (Anthony) Vantwoud of Monticello;
three brothers: John Bauer of Yorktown, Ind., James Bauer of Monterey and Tedmund (Amy)
Bauer of Monterey; two nephews and 10 nieces.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2009 at Frain Mortuary, 305 E. Main St.,
Winamac. A rosary will be recited at 7: 15 p.m. Friday, followed by a Scriptural Wake Service at
7: 30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will take place at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Monterey, Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009
at 11 a.m. (EST) with Rev. Bert Woolson officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Anne’s cemetery, Monterey.

TYNER — J. Willard Burkholder, 90, of Tyner, died at 9: 38 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008 at
Miller's Merry Manor, Walkerton.
He is survived by sons: Ronald Burkholder of Argos, Alan Burkholder of Walkerton, Randy
Burkholder of Plymouth and Arden Burkholder of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Laverne Replogle of
Plymouth; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Friday, Jan. 2 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home,
Plymouth. Funeral services will follow at noon in the funeral home.
