Kim Earl Cox
PLYMOUTH — Lifetime Marshall County resident, Kim Earl Cox, 52, of Plymouth, died
unexpectedly at 8: 38 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center,
Plymouth.
Born in South Bend, Jan. 7, 1956, Kim is the son of Olen Earl and Shirley Mae (Lacher) Cox.
He graduated from LaVille High School with the class of 1974, and from the Indiana Police
Academy in 1983.
Kim had attended the Riverside Church in Bremen and First Christian Church of Plymouth.
On February 25, 1995, Kim and Nancy J. Martin were married
at home in Plymouth.
He first worked as a LaPaz Community Police Officer prior to joining the Marshall County Sheriff
Dept. during Richard Tyson’s tenure as Sheriff.
Kim served in law enforcement for 25 years, retiring in 2007. He currently worked as the crib
manager at I.T. Equipment in Plymouth.
Kim enjoyed his family, especially the time spent with his grandchildren and loyal dog, Earl, a
Silver Labrador.
Hunting mainly with bow was his number one interest. He enjoyed time spent outdoors in the
woods, joined by his wife. He played third baseman on various fast and slow-pitch softball teams
in Marshall County for many years. A sport he did not play but followed was hockey.
He was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, The Wild Turkey
Federation and the Raghorn News was his favorite newsprint. He also assisted Nancy in her
career with the Marshall County Humane Society.
Kim is survived by his wife, Nancy, and by their two daughters; a son and step-children. They are
Stephanie Michelle Cox and Brandon Earl Cox, both of South Bend and Kelsey Jaye Cox, Argos,
a student at Purdue University. His step-son, Abe Hundt, Plymouth, also a Purdue student and
step-daughter, Abby Jean Hundt, Plymouth, survive as well.
Grandchildren, Ethan Yoder, Alec Coleman and Rannelle Cox also survive together with his
mother, Shirley, of LaPaz and two brothers, Jim (Barb) Cox and Steve (Denise) Cox, both of
Plymouth.
Kim’s father-in-law, Lowell K. Martin of Bremen, also survives together with numerous nieces,
nephews, cousins, hunting buddies and friends.
Kim was preceded in death by his father Olen, in 1998, and DeMariss Martin also in 1998.
Friends are invited to share memories with Kim’s family Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, from 3 to 8
p.m. and after 7 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N.
Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Kim will be held at 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, in the Plymouth Wesleyan
Church, 11203 S. Michigan St., Plymouth. The Rev. Stephen Cox, pastor of the LaPaz
Cornerstone Community Fellowship, will officiate.
Burial will be next to his father in Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.

Patricia R. Polinski
PLYMOUTH — Patricia R. Polinski, 85, of Berkley Street, Plymouth, died in the Moore Regional
Medical Center, North Carolina, Dec. 13, 2008.
Born May 31, 1923, in Wilkes-Barre, Penn., Patricia was the daughter of Raymond L. and Mary
Muldowney Burke.
She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Wilkes-Barre in 1942, and worked for social
services in Washington D.C., from 1944 to 1945.
On Aug. 15, 1950, in Jim Thorpe, Penn. Patricia and Edward Polinski were married
. Edward
died in 1988.
In 1969, she worked for the St. Joseph County’s Sherriff’s Department for nine years and was a
secretary to the Juvenile Probation Department, Patricia was Activities Assistant at Miller’s Merry
Manor in Plymouth.
A member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Patricia worked with the Altar and Rosary
Society and the Harvest House. She also helped to cook for the church’s funeral dinners.
Patricia enjoyed reading, sewing and water coloring along with her cooking and baking skills.
She is survived by a son and a daughter: John A. (Kathy) Polinski, Plymouth, and Patricia (Dave)
Kennedy, Cameron, N.C.
Six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren..
Patricia was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.
Friends are invited to share memories and celebrate the life of Patricia with her family on
Thursday, Dec. 18, from 4 to 7 p.m., and continue after 7 a.m. of Friday Dec. 19, 2008 at the
Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 11 am in St. Michael’s Roman Catholic
Church, 612 N. Walnut St., Plymouth. The Rev. Father William Kummer, pastor of the church,
will officiate.
Interment will be in Southlawn Cemeter, South Bend.
Memorial contributions in memory of Patricia may be given to St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
Lois Thomas
BRADENTON, FLA. — Lois Thomas, 96, formerly of Plymouth, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008 in
Bradenton, Fla. At the Freedom Village Nursing Home.
She is survived by two nieces: Barb Hunt of Fla. And Bev Bixel of South Bend, Ind.
Private services will be held. Burial will take place at New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth was in charge of
arrangements.
Betty Lou Wagner Turner
KNOX — Betty Lou Wagner Turner, 80, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008 in Starke Memorial
Hospital, Knox, Ind.
She is survived by two daughters: Gloria Hansen of LaPorte and Darlene Kirk of Bloomington, Ill;
two sons: Kenny Wagner of Knox and Dennis Wagner of San Pierre; seven grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren and one half-sister, Mary Choo of Indianapolis.
There will be no services or visitation. Cremation will take place.
Memorial contributions may be given to Church of the Heartland, 6020 S. 300 East, Knox, IN
46534. Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel is handling arrangements.
Kenneth Allen Basham
ROCHESTER — Kenneth Allen Basham, 59, of Rochester, died at 8: 40 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15,
2008 at the VA Hospital, Indianapolis.
He is survived by a daughter, Amber Lynn Basham of Rochester; son, Aaron Allen Basham of
Hood River, Ore.; brothers: George Basham of Akron, William Basham of Sturgis, Mich.,
Richard Basham of Indianapolis and Dale Basham of Mariposa, Calif.; and sister, Geri Rosebury
of Mariposa, Calif.
Visitation is Monday, Dec. 22 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester.
Funeral services are Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by
the LeRoy Shelton American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Walter L. DeMien
PLYMOUTH – Walter L. DeMien, 89, of 4012 Michigan Rd., Plymouth, died at Miller’s Merry
Manor, Plymouth, at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 15, 2008. He had been a Plymouth resident since
the 1930s.
Born in LaPorte, Walter was the son of George and Cecel Yocum DeMien. He graduated from
Phillips, South Dakota High School and served in the United States Army’s infantry in Germany
during WWII. He was discharged as a Staff Sgt. in 1944.
In May of 1946, Walter and Mary Heyde were married
in Plymouth.
He worked at Bendix in South Bend for 31 years as a brake packer, retiring in 1979, and was a
part-time employee for Price’s Nursery for 47 years.
Walter enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. A dedicated traveler, he enjoyed
visiting all of the states with the exception of Alaska and Hawaii.
A member of the LaPaz American Legion, he displayed military medals of all kinds and had a
nursery of his own. He also was a long time member of the North Salem Church of God, where
he had been a Deacon, Trustee, and did the lawn maintenance and landscaping.
Walter is survived by his wife, Mary and their two sons and a daughter: Glen (Linda) DeMien,
Nappanee, Jim (Virginia) DeMien, Plymouth, and Shirley (Tim) Pearson, Plymouth.
Eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren also survive.
Two brothers, Wallace T. and Marian DeMien, Peru, and Fred G. and Helen DeMien, St.
Charles, Ill., together with a sister-in-law, Marjorie DeMien, Plymouth and a brother-in-law,
Kenneth Alwine, LaPaz, also survive along with several nieces and nephews.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; two great-grandchildren: Cora and Cole Webb;
two brothers: Elsworth DeMien and Gene DeMien Sr.; and three sisters: Henrietta Beghein,
Doris Julia Milkey and Carrol E. Alwine.
Friends are invited to celebrate the life of Walter DeMien from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18,
2008, and Friday Dec. 19 after 7 a.m. at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N.
Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Walter will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, in the funeral home
with the Rev. Darrell Cardwell, pastor of the North Salem Church of God, will officiate.
Military graveside ceremonies in the New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth, will be provided by the
Plymouth American Legion and V.F.W. organizations.
Memorial gifts in Walter’s memory may be made to the North Salem Church of God.
Marilyn M. Herrmann
CULVER — Marilyn M. Herrmann, 84, of Culver died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008 at Saint Joseph
Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
She is survived by her husband, William L. Herrmann of Culver; son, William W. (Casey)
Herrmann of Ft. Myers, Fla.; daughter, Marilee (Jim) McCormack of Culver; four grandchildren;
and one great-grandchild.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s of the Lake Catholic Church, Culver at 11 a.m. Friday,
Dec. 18. There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
The Bonine-Odom Funeral Home, Culver, is in charge of arrangements.
Jon M. Smith
PLYMOUTH — Jon M. Smith, 51, passed away, Monday, Dec.15, 2008 in Saint Joseph
Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, after a sudden illness. Jon was born Dec. 6, 1957 in
Muskegon, Mich. to Charles and Janice (VanRiper) Smith and lived in the area most of his life.
Survivors include: one son, Josh Smith of Walkerton; one grandson, Braylon Smith; his former
wife, Jodi Smith of Mishawaka; his father, Charles Smith of Scottsville, Mich.; two brothers:
Craig Smith of Virginia and Charles Smith of Michigan; two sisters: Paula Endres of Michigan
and Ann Marie Wobig of Minnesota and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jill Smith; his mother, Janice and a brother, Steve
Smith.
Jon was an employee of CSX Railroad Transportation and a member of the Tuesday Night
Men's Pool League.
Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. Eastern Time at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake
Chapel. Burial will be at the Woodlawn cemetery, Walkerton. Friends may call Thursday from 4
to 8 p.m. EST and Friday one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
Donald Royce, II Johnson
Donald Royce Johnson, II, 48, of Lake of the Woods, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008 at his sister’s
home.
He is survived by brothers: Robin (Lori) Johnson of Bremen and Gaylord (Beth) Johnson Jr. of
Bremen; and sisters: Jessica (Tracy) Adams of Bremen, Tracy (Terry) Finney of Bremen and
Monical (Jay) Studlik of South Bend.
A memorial gathering is planned at the home of Jessica Adams, 3870 Lakeshore Dr., Lake of
the Woods, Bremen, where Donald resided, on Sunday, Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. Family and friends
are welcome.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
The Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen, is in charge of the arrangements.
Wanita C. Sriver
ROCHESTER — Wanita C. Sriver, 61, of Rochester died at 11 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008 at
the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Elkhart.
She is survived by her husband, Ed Sriver of Rochester; daughters: Christine Wilhelm of Argos
and Caroline Baldwin of Rochester; son, Mikel Sriver of Rochester; step-children: Christopher
Smith of Kewanna and Dennis Smith of Rochester; brother, James Clevenger of Rochester; and
sister, Janet Graham of Noblesville.
Funeral services will be at 2: 30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20 at Faith Outreach Center, Rochester.
Visitation is from 1 p.m. to funeral time at the church. Burial in the Citizens cemetery, Rochester.

Richard D. Rohrer
NAPPANEE — Richard D. “Dick” Rohrer, 79, of Nappanee, died at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17,
2008 at Elkhart General Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Rohrer; sons: David (Kathy) Rohrer of Plymouth and Stephen
(Patty) Rohrer of Lafayette; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Janet Bute of
Elkhart; and brother, Norman J. (Pat) Rohrer of Nappanee.
Visitation is Sunday, Dec. 21 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder
Funeral Home, Nappanee. Funeral services are Monday, Dec. 22 at 10: 30 a.m. at Nappanee
Missionary Church Chapel. Burial will be at Union Center cemetery.
