Victor Goze
PLYMOUTH — Victor Goze, 85, WWII Veteran, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 9, 2008 at
Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth. Vic is survived by his wife, Irene. Vic and
Irene had two children, Ronald G. Goze, who served in the Navy and died in 1986 from
Exposure to Agent Orange and daughter, G. Jeane (Richard) Aman of Donaldson; three
grandchildren, Staci (Aman) Jennings and husband, Scott of Tippecanoe, Ronald V. Goze and
wife Teresa of South Bend, and Victoria (Aman) Smith and husband, Jason of Plymouth; Nine
great-grandchildren, Alyssa Miller and James Miller of Plymouth, Garrett Jennings, deceased,
Mallorie Jennings, Hannah Jennings and Courtney Jennings of Tippecanoe, Thomas Goze and
Olivia Goze of South Bend and Shelby Smith of Plymouth; one brother, George Goze.
Vic was the son of Lewis and Julia Goze, who came to Ellis Island, NY, "America", from Tarna
Mare, Romania on the President Lincoln on Oct. 8, 1913. He was born in Chicago on
"Christmas". He did not know until he went to obtain his birth certificate to enlist in the Marines,
that he was actually born on the Romanian Orthodox Christmas, which was Jan. 7.
Vic belonged to a large family of 13 siblings.They moved to the farm at Donaldson, when he was
two years of age. Vic had been hit by a "Gary Car", three streetcars coupled together, and his
parents decided to raise the children in the safer country. He graduated from Grovertown High
School in 1941. His high school credits included, student manager for all of the high school
sports, librarian, student worker in the cafeteria and President of his class for three years. He
was also a member of the orchestra, the quartet and the Starke County Schools Band.
In 1942, Vic joined the U.S. Marine Corps and the Marine Corp Band. He spent 28 months of
combat duty during WWII in the South Pacific. He served with the 5th Amphibian, the 1st Marine
Battalion and the 3rd Marine Division. Vic helped to form the first AAA unit in Hawaii.
After his discharge in 1945, Vic met old friends to celebrate Irene Biers 18th birthday. He and
Irene both had blind dates coming for the evening with friends. Neither date arrived, so he and
Irene went out together. This was Oct. 18, 1945 and they married
on Dec. 24, 1945. Vic and
Irene celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this past Christmas Eve.
Vic worked at NIPSCO in Plymouth for 39 years as a driver, groundman, underground storage
worker and storeroom operator until his retirement in 1983. With retirement were many joys;
family, family tree, gardening, reading, flea markets and travel. He and Irene are a part of the
Koontz Lake Missionary Church Family and loved the Lord. He was also a lifetime member of
the Plymouth VFW, the Plymouth American Legion Post #27 and the Plymouth Eagles.
Vic was proud of his wife, his family and his service as a WWII veteran and the wonderful life he
had been blessed with. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He
never knew a stranger and has helped and been a blessing to many people throughout his life.
Funeral services are Monday at 11 a.m. EDT at the Koontz Lake Missionary Church with Pastor
Brian Baughman officiating. Burial will be in the Grovertown cemetery, where military graveside
services will be conducted. Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. EDT at Rannells Funeral
Home, Koontz Lake Chapel and Monday at the church after 10 a.m.
Memorial contributions, in memory of Victor Goze, may be given to the Koontz Lake Missionary
Church at 8044 N. SR 23, Walkerton, IN 46574.
Patricia Maenhout
BREMEN – Patricia Maenhout, 9738 1st Road, Bremen, died of natural causes on Thursday,
Oct. 9, 2008, in the Community Hospital of Bremen. She was 57-years-old.
Patricia was born the daughter of Harold I. and Maxine Worsham Hamilton in Bremen on Dec.
18, 1950.
She graduated from LaVille High School with the class of 1969.
On July 21, 1973, in Plymouth, Patricia and Russell Maenhout were married
.
For 16 years she was a teacher’s aide at LaVille schools and had also worked as a telephone
operator.
Adept with her hands, she enjoyed knitting, sewing and cross-stitching. She loved to travel.
Raising her family was a great joy and satisfaction and she enjoyed her grandchildren and their
activities.
Patricia was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Women’s Club. She was a Red Hat Club
member, a Sunday school teacher and a member of the school board.
She is survived by her husband, a daughter and two sons. They are Ryan E. (Jessica)
Maenhout and their children, Allyson and Ryan Nicholas of Bremen: Angela L. (Emanuel)
Reese, South Bend, and their children Karrissa and Jaisyn Reese and Kevin (Amy) Maenhout,
Bremen.
Two brothers, Harold (Delores) Gene Hamilton, Plymouth and Charles Hamilton, Bremen, and
several nieces and nephews also survive.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends are invited to share memories of Patricia with her family from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday,
Oct. 11, 2008, and for one hour prior to funeral services on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, at 2 p.m. in
the Calvary Lutheran Church, 1314 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
The Rev. Steven Resner, pastor of the Calvary Lutheran Church, will officiate.
The Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., is in charge of arrangements.
Interment will be in New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorial gifts in Patricia’s memory may be made to her church.
Mary Louise Danner
BREMEN — Mary Louise Danner, 68, of Bremen, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2008 in her home.
She is survived by her husband, Donald G. Danner; daughter, Melinda (Kevin) Flick of Plymouth;
one granddaughter; and sister, Elsie Garrett of Clinton, Neb.
Funeral services will be held at 10: 30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13 in the Community Gospel Church,
69000 S.R. 331, Bremen. Burial will follow in Bremen cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 6 p.m.
Sunday in the Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan St. Lakeville, and one hour prior to the
services in church Monday.
Ernest Elton “Al” Glant
BREMEN — Ernest Elton “Al” Glant, 83, of Bremen, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2008 at Community
Hospital of Bremen. He was born Oct. 20, 1924 in Kokomo to Ernest E. and Ruby Glant and was
raised by Ernest and Marian Glant. On Aug. 4, 1946, he married
Mildred “Middy” Utzinger in
Hamlet. She survives.
He established Glant Funeral Home and Air Ambulance Service in Bremen in 1949, owning and
operating this business for approximately 20 years. He was employed by New York Life
Insurance and Warsaw/Wabash Aviation, and was a corrections officer for Marshall County
Sheriff’s Department.
He graduated from Hamlet High School and attended Mortuary College in Indianapolis
graduating with a Funeral Director degree.
He served in U.S. Air Force in the Philippines during WWII.
He was a member of First United Church of Christ in Bremen where he sang in the choir for a
number of years. Some of Al’s interests included being a lifetime member of the Indiana
Volunteer Fire Fighters Association with the Bremen Fire Department. He was a 32nd Degree
Mason, of the Bremen Masonic Lodge and a member of the Bremen Lions Club. He was a
board member of the Community Hospital of Bremen and member of Marshall County Health
Association.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred “Middy” of Bremen; two
daughters: Pat (Steve) Dunsizer of Plymouth and Pam (Jerry) Meister of Lake of the Woods; two
sons: Dick (Sue) Glant of Bremen and Dave (Casey) Glant of High Springs, Fla.; seven
grandchildren: Mindi (Brad) Blosser, Travis (Jenna) Meister, Kimberly Dunsizer, Melissa (Jerry)
Sander, Keri Glant and Alex Klausner; and nine great-grandchildren: Macey, Madison & Brenna
Blosser, Brock, Collin & Ellis Meister, Grace Gardner, Tate Dunsizer, Jared Sander, Kieran
Glant.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, step-mother, and grandson, Matthew Glant.
A memorial service will be held at 10: 30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13 at First United Church of Christ,
323 S. Center St., Bremen officiated by Pastor Harry Clark.
Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Hospital of Bremen.
The Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen is assisting the family with arrangements.
Arnold "Dick" Umbaugh
PLYMOUTH — Arnold "Dick" Umbaugh, 84, of Oakhill Ave, Plymouth, passed away at 12: 36
a.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at the Catherine Kasper Life Care Center in Donaldson.
Dick was born on Oct. 2, 1924, in Argos, to Cecil and Esther (Cool) Umbaugh. He attended
Argos School, for 12 years, graduating in the Class of 1943.
In May of 1943, Dick joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country. He received
his basic training at Great Lakes, Ill. He served aboard the U.S.S. Granville Transport Ship, as
Pharmacist Mate 1st class, in the South Pacific, for two and a half years.
On April 21, 1946, Dick and the former Berniece Samuelson were united in marriage at the
Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Donaldson.
Dick entered Hanover College in June of 1946, where he majored in Chemistry and Biology. He
graduated from Hanover, in June of 1950. He attended one year of Medical School at Indiana
University.
He returned to Plymouth and was a Lab Tech at Parkview Hospital. He later joined Investors
Diversified Service and was a Financial Advisor for 28 years, retiring in 1985. Dick and Berniece
moved to Saint Germain, Wis., for eight years, where Dick enjoyed his hobby of fishing. They
returned to Plymouth in 1993.
Dick was a Boy Scout in his youth, and as an adult he took on the roll of Scout Leader. He was
also very active in his church. He taught Sunday School and was on the church council many
times. He was a member Rotary Club and the American Legion. Dick enjoyed spending time
with his family.
Dick is survived by his wife, Berniece; their sons, Mark and Suzanne Umbaugh of Argos, David
and Vainca Umbaugh of Pebble Beach, Calif. and Dan and Barbara Umbaugh of Carmel; his
brother, Gerald Umbaugh of Kansas; his sister, Ercell and Morris Zink of South Bend; eight
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents: Cecil and Esther Umbaugh; his sister, Lois Weidner
and his granddaughter, Sarah Jane Umbaugh.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, with one hour visitation prior to
service, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Donaldson, with the Rev. Dennis Wenzel officiating.
A time of visiting with the Umbaugh family, will be on Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, from 4 p.m. to 7
p.m. at the VAN GILDER FUNERAL HOME, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, IN, 46563.
Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran cemetery, Donaldson.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or to the World Gospel
Mission.
Robert A. Conrad
Robert A. Conrad, 83, Peru, died Saturday at Miller's Merry Manor, Logansport.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn R. Conrad, and three children, Diana J. Conrad, Indianapolis,
John R. Conrad, Brooklyn Center, Minn., and Matt L. Conrad, LaPorte.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at McClain Funeral Home, Denver. Visitation will be from
2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.
Dwayne Houston Cross
LAPAZ — Dwayne Houston Cross, 35, of LaPaz, passed away on Saturday morning, Oct. 11,
2008 as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Dwayne was born on Dec. 25,
1972 in Durham, N.C. and has lived in LaPaz for the past three years, moving from North
Carolina where he lived most of his life. On Dec. 17, 2000 in Cary, N.C., he married
the former
Michelle Julynne Unruh.
Along with his wife, Michelle, Dwayne is survived by his three children; his daughter, Emily Cross
and twin sons, Jacob and Jonah Cross; his parents, Wayne and Dorinda (Lyon) Cross of Apex,
N.C.; one sister, Andrea Cross of Clayton, N.C.; and grandmother, Dorothy Cox of Durham, N.C.
Dwayne worked at the Security Department for the University of Notre Dame. He was formerly
employed with St. Joseph County as a police deputy. Dwayne additionally served his community
by working for the North Carolina Department of Corrections. Dwayne proudly served his country
with the United States Marine Corp during the Gulf War. He enjoyed coaching soccer at Newton
Park for his children. He also enjoyed teaching preschool at Nappanee Missionary Church.
Dwayne found tremendous satisfaction visiting his children at school and playing at recess.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct.16, 2008 at the Lakeville United
Methodist Church. Rev. Steve Cox and Rev. Larry Dimick will officiate. Military services will
follow. Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the Palmer
Funeral Home, Lakeville and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Fellowship
meal will be served at the LaPaz Community Building immediately following the Funeral

Overta Edith Swank Dickson
CRAWFORDSVILLE — Oveta Edith Swank Dickson, 88, of Crawfordsville, died Saturday, Oct.
11 a St. Clare Medical Center, Crawfordsville.
She is survived by her husband, Paul; four daughters: Linda (Mike) Simms of Crawfordsville,
Karen (David) Gehrke of Plymouth, Janet (Marvin) Moffett of Lafayette and Donna (Bill) Runkle
of Lafayette; a sister, Audrey (Wes) Ehrie of Crawfordsville and eight grandchildren.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, Oct. 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Burkhart Funeral Home, 300 S.
Grant Ave., Crawfordsville.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15 at the funeral home with burial to
follow at Waynetown Masonic cemetery.
