BREMEN — Dorothy M. Tener, 75, of Bremen, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008 at Bremen Health Care Center.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathy (Jerry) Michalski of South Bend; sisters: Nellie Van Gilder
of Plymouth, Ethel Renes of South Bend, Deloris (Harry) Beechler of Elkhart and Erma (Glen)
Hochstetler of Nappanee; brother, George Andrews of Bremen; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren;
12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Thursday, Oct. 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen. Funeral
services are Friday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Bremen cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Elizabeth “Liz” Yoder
FT. MYERS, Fla. — Elizabeth “Liz” Yoder, 82, of Ft. Myers, Fla., formerly of Nappanee, died at
3: 23 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2008 at Lee Memorial Hospital, Ft. Myers, Fla.
She is survived by friend, Don Hitsman of Ft. Myers, Fla.; brothers: Sam Hochstetler of
Nappanee, Levi (Sue) Hochstetler of Elkhart and Harvey (Elizabeth) Hochstetler of Sarasota,
Fla.; sisters: Anna Mast of Nappanee and Amanda Yoder of Sarasota, Fla.; sister-in-law, Mary
Hochstetler of Nappanee; and brother-in-law, John Mast of Nappanee.
Visitation is Thursday, Oct. 2 from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral
Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to services Friday at the church. Funeral services are
Friday, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. at the Nappanee Church of the Brethren. Burial will be at Union Center
cemetery, Nappanee.
Memorials may be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.

Harvey Jackson
ROCHESTER — Harvey Jackson, 69, of Rochester, died at 10: 24 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1,
2008 at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Jackson; daughters: Nianna Jackson of Chicago, Ill., Michelle
L. Jackson of Indianapolis, Vanessa L. Jackson of South Bend and Phyllinga L. Jackson of
Rochester; sons: Harvey Jackson III of Kewanna, Joshua L. (Greta) Jackson of Kewanna, David
L. (Katrina) Jackson of Rochester and Michael L. Jackson of Rochester; 17 grandchildren;
seven great-grandchildren; sisters: Maebelle Scaife of Rochester, Nancy Thomas of Rochester,
Ruth Osborne of Chicago, Ernestine (Halbert) Worthy of Chicago, Ill., Bernadine Neil (William
James) of Chicago, Ill., Lois (Lawrence) Williams of St. Louis, Mo., Lucille (Marko) Walker of St.
Louis, Mo. and Beverly Cook of St. Louis, Mo.; brothers Johnny Lee (Dawn) Howell of
Rochester, Ernest (Marie) Howell Jr. of Rochester, Cleophus (Connie) Mooney of Rochester,
Delbert (Sybil) Howell of Chicago, Ill., Nadis Howell of Chicago, Ill., Robert (Valarie) Howell of
Chicago, Ill., Andrew Mills of St. Louis, Mo., Willie (Bonita) Jackson of St. Louis, Mo. and Harvey
Jackson of St. Louis, Mo.; mother and father-in-law, Pearlie and Eldee Norman of Blue Island,
Ill.; sister-in-law, Arnesia Hardey of Blue Island, Ill.; and brother-in-law, Ray Anthony “Tony”
(Cheryl) Norman of Blue Island, Ill.
Visitation is Friday, Oct. 3 from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 4 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Good
Family Funeral Home, Rochester. Funeral services are Saturday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. at the funeral
home. Burial will be at Leiters Ford cemetery.

Frances Isabelle VanDerWeele
ARGOS — Frances Isabelle VanDerWeele, 82, of Argos, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 1,
2008 at 3: 20 a.m. at Miller’s Merry Manor of Plymouth, following a two-week illness. She was
born April 27, 1926 in Claypool to Dewey and Sarah (Long) King. On Jan. 16, 1947 in Fort
Wayne, she married Wayne “Skip” J. VanDerWeele.
Frances lived most of her life in the Argos community. She graduated from Tippecanoe High
School with the class of 1944 and then attended Kellogg Community College, Battle Creek,
Mich. She was a registered nurse, working in Battle Creek, Mich. and Rockville, Md. She was a
member of James Lowell Corey, American Legion Post #68 Ladies Auxiliary and attended Argos
United Methodist Church, Argos, and Church of the Brethren, Bradenton, Fla.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne “Skip” VanDerWeele of Argos; one son, William C.
(Carolyn) VanDerWeele of Gaithersburg, Md.; one daughter, Suzanne (Tim) Woods of Pittsburg,
Pa.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Faye) King of Bourbon;
and several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; and a sister.
Friends may visit with the family Friday, Oct. 3 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Earl-Grossman
Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos.
Services will be at 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 at the funeral home with Elder Tim Woods
officiating.
Burial will be at Maple Grove cemetery, Argos.

Doris C. Mollohan
CULVER — Doris C. Mollohan, 75, of Culver, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008 at Hickory Creek at Winamac.
She is survived by daughters: Faith (Steve) Kersey of Culver, Helen (Jamey) McAfee of
Plymouth, Rosemary (Matt) Kovacs of North Judson and Tammy (Kenny) Ross of Hamlet; sons:
Eugene Jefferies Jr. of Plymouth, David (Doris) Jefferies Sr. of Culver and William (Deborah)
Jefferies Sr. of Culver; 43 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and sister, Dorthy Overmyer of
Plymouth.
Visitation is today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Bonine-Odom Funeral Home, Culver. Funeral services
are Tuesday, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Culver Masonic cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.

Donna Lee Bowser
PLYMOUTH — Donna Lee Bowser, 81, of 805 Baker St., Lot 3, Plymouth, passed away Friday,
Oct. 3, 2008, at 11 p.m., at Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, in Plymouth.
Donna was born on Sept. 19, 1927, in LaPorte to Harold and Elsie (Baugher) Cripe. She and her
family moved to Bremen in 1934. It was in Bremen that she met Don Bowser, in school. They
graduated together, from Bremen, in the Class of 1945. On Aug. 28, 1948, after Don returned
home from the service, Donna and Don were married at the Riverside E.U.B. Church in Bremen.
Donna was a homemaker and a retired beautician. She and Don loved to travel and they spent
their winters, in their home in Florida, for 21 years.
Donna is survived by her husband of 60 years, Donald Bowser; their sons: Rex and Joyce
Bowser of Coatesville, Randy and Ann Bowser of Plymouth, and Roger and Beckey Bowser of
Cassopolis, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren (with another expected); and her
brother, Neil and Doris Cripe of Bremen. She was preceded in death by her parents and an
infant sister.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at 11 a.m., at the Van Gilder Funeral Home,
in Plymouth, with the Rev. Les Johnson officiating. Burial will be in New Oak Hill Mausoleum,
Plymouth.
Friends and family are invited to visit with the Bowser Family on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, from 4
to 7 p.m., at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, IN, 46563.
The family would like for memorial contributions to be given to the donor’s choice.

Arline Johnson
PLYMOUTH — Arline Inga Johnson passed away on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at her home, in Plymouth.
Arline was born on Nov. 24, 1919, in Roseau, Minn., to George and Signe Lawmaster. Arline
married the love of her life, Ingwald R. Johnson, on Nov. 21, 1943, in Plymouth. Ingwald
preceded her in death in 1967.
Arline’s parents, George and Signe Lawmaster, a Swedish immigrant, met and married in
Minnesota, while George was homesteading. Three children, Willie, Barney, and Arline, were
born there. Later the family moved to their farm in Tippecanoe, and three more children were
born, Walter, Ollie, and Evelyn.
While growing up, Arline loved animals, especially her horse, Rex, and her dog, Sheila. Arline
always accompanied her mother to sell produce at the Farmer’s Market in South Bend. She
graduated from Tippecanoe High School and was a beautiful redhead.
While riding her horse Rex, she passed a log cabin, in Tippecanoe, where she met her future
husband, Inwald “Snuffy” R. Johnson. They fell in love and were married on Nov. 21, 1943, in
Plymouth.
Ingwald and Arline had three children: Ingwald W. Johnson, Mike Johnson, and Kristina Johnson
They have wonderful memories of all the aunts, uncles, and cousins gathering every Sunday at
George and Signe’s farm, for dinner, and then playing in the woods, barn, and along the
Tippecanoe River.
Arline enjoyed driving for Real Rider Services. She made many friends with the passengers and
truly cared about them. In later years, she spent a lot of sunny days out in her yard, enjoying the
countryside, birds, and her flowers. She was a true lover of animals and of nature.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be missed by her family
and friends.
Surviving are her sons, Ingwald and Mike; her daughter, Kristina; her grandchildren: Regina
Mcclain, Kristen (Frank) Schittino, Ingwald Johnson (all of Florida) and Jennifer Biglane of Knox;
her great-grandchildren: Ryan Mcclain, Brandon Mcclain, Calvin King, Halie King, Carmella
Schittino, and Kaylee Johnson, all of Florida; and her brother-in-law, Jerry Johnson of Maryland.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Joselyn.
A time of visiting with the family will be Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Van
Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at 1: 30 p.m., at the Van Gilder Funeral Home
with the Rev. Denise Anderson officiating.
Burial will be in Tippecanoe cemetery, Tippecanoe.

Claude, Jr. Salyer
KNOX — Claude Salyer Jr., 78, died Friday, Oct. 3, in his home.
Surviving are: his wife, Justine; one daughter, Vonda (Robert) Butler of Knox; three sons, Terry
(Karen) Salyer of Henager, Ala. and Tim (Delcie) Salyer and Jerry (Janice) Salyer, all of Knox;
13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Clemons, Colleen Salyer and Jean
Minix, all of Salyersville, KY; one brother, Billy Wayne Salyer of Salyersville, KY.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. Central Time at the Free United Baptist Church with
Pastors Gerald Allen and Fred Miller officiating.
Friends may call Monday from 4-8 p.m. CDT at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel and
Tuesday at the church after 10 a.m.

Mabel (Yazel) Baney
Mrs. Mabel (Yazel) Baney, 97, who was a resident of Peace River Rehabilitation Center in Port
Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Bourbon, peacefully entered into her eternal rest on Sunday, Oct. 5 at
5: 30 a.m.
She was born the daughter of Hallie (Nick) Eby and Mary E. Carl Eby on July 31, 1911 in
Bourbon Township. She had been a resident of the Bourbon and Bremen area all her life until
she moved to Florida in the later years. She had lived in the Punta Gorda area until the hurricane
where she suffered a great loss.
Mabel was a Corporate Secretary & Liaison to the President of TV Time Foods in Bremen where
she retired in 1971.
Mabel was married to C. Blaine (Bing) Yazel on Aug. 30, 1931, he died June 7, 1974. She was
then married to Verl Baney on Nov. 10, 1979 and he died Jan. 12, 2003.
She is survived by her son, Larry (Lori) Yazel of Indianapolis and a step-son, Richard (Betty)
Baney of Bourbon. She was further blessed with a grandson, Dr. Eric Yazel; step-grandchildren:
Cynthia Shelby and Kevin (Kim) Baney along with six step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, a brother and a step-daughter.
Mabel was a very active person where her memberships included; Past member of the Order of
the Eastern Star of Bourbon, Past member of Business and Professional Women’s Club and the
River Forest Social Club. She was also a member of the Bourbon First United Methodist Church
and the Cleveland United Methodist Church of Cleveland, Fla.
Mabel also was known to be seen helping around the Deaton Funeral Home assisting during
visitations and funerals while she was in Bourbon.
A funeral service to celebrate Mabel’s life will be held Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. in Deaton-Clemens
Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St. Bourbon, with Rev. Mark Day officiating.
The family will receive friends from 12: 30 p.m. until time of funeral services Wednesday in the
funeral home.
Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill cemetery, Bourbon.
Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Lisa A. Lengacher
WAKARUSA — Lisa A. Lengacher, 39, of Wakarusa, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2008 at home.
She is survived by her husband, Jeff Lengacher; daughters: Chelsea Lengacher and Cassie
Lengacher, both at home; mother and father-in-law Barb and Mike Hattery of Indianapolis;
sisters: Pam (Ryan) Smoot of Thorntown and Angela (Ben) LaPlace of Temperance, Mich.;
brother, Ryan (Hillary) Hattery of Middlebury; grandparents: Mary Lou Dorries of Elkhart and
Raymond Replogle of Three Rivers, Mich.; father and mother-in-law, Jack and Nadine
Lengacher of Wakarusa; brother and sisters-in-law: Jack and Shelly Lengacher, Jamie and
Jolinda Lengacher and Jody and Tara Lengacher, all of Wakarusa; and sister and brother-in-law,
Nicki and Kraig Resler of Wakarusa.
Visitation is Thursday, Oct. 9 from 2 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service Friday at
Wakarusa Missionary Church. Funeral services are Friday, Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be at Olive cemetery.
Memorials may be made to “The Compass.”
Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, is in charge of the arrangements.
