Charles E. Ellsworth
GASTON -- Charles Edward Ellsworth, 86, of the Gaston area, died April 4, 2002, at Marion General Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born April 28, 1915, in Delaware County, the son of Clyde and Ollie (Morgan) Ellsworth. He was retired from Delco Remy in Anderson after more than 30 years of employment. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
He was a 50-year member of the Matthews Masonic Lodge, member of the Scottish Rite of Fort Wayne, Veterans of Foreign Wars and avid antique tractor enthusiast and collector. He attended Fowlerton United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra (husband, Kenneth) Strickland of Montpelier; a sister, Ardith Lambert of Gaston; sister-in-law, Dorothy Ellsworth; three grandchildren, Kenneth R. (wife, Sherri) Strickland of Carlisle, Pa., Cyndie (husband, Robert) Poe of Huntington and Stephen E. (wife, Amy) Strickland of Grand Rapids, Mich.; three nieces and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Boyd Ellsworth and George Ellsworth.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Gant Funeral Home. Burial will be in Matthews Cemetery
in Matthews where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Delaware County.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and one hour before services Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Margaret LeRoy
ALEXANDRIA -- Margaret M. "Peggy" (Crowley) LeRoy, 75, Alexandria, died April 2, 2002, at Community Hospital Extended Care Unit.
She was born Jan. 23, 1927, in Washington, D.C., at Homeopathic Hospital, the oldest daughter of Katherine (Walters) Crowley and John James Crowley. She married Lt. Alvin G. LeRoy, M.D., in 1951 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria.
She was a 1945 high school graduate of Notre Dame Academy in Washington, D.C. She then graduated in 1948 from Georgetown University receiving her RN diploma from the Nurse Cadet Program. She worked at Georgetown University Hospital in D.C. She went to work in Denver, Colo. at Mercy Hospital and Colorado General where her parents had moved. Then she worked at Wesley Memorial in Chicago, Ill. After marrying and having her family she later worked at Community Hospital in Anderson and worked in her husband's office on occasion.
Peggy was very active in her church and community. She was a member and president of the Altar and Rosary society. She was a member of the St. Mary's Mothers Club for years. She was a Girl Scout leader at St. Mary's for several years and helped with Little League baseball in Orestes where her sons played ball.
She was a member of Madison County Republican Women's Club and a Republican precinct committeeman. She was a participant in Madison County Medical Auxiliary, later she became an American Party County Chairman as well as holding state offices, supporting her husband's run for county coroner on the American Party ticket. She was a leader for a local chapter of the John Birch Society. In later years during retirement she was secretary for Lake Walk-in-the-Water Property and Owners Association in Lake Wales, Fla.
She loved athletics, she bowled in both Alexandria and Anderson leagues becoming a member of the Alexandria Hall of Fame. She golfed at Yule Golf Course and was a member of the Yule Ladies Golf Association. She loved to go to Purdue football games in West Lafayette.
She felt a deep appreciation for Sister Patricia Ann, a Eucharistic minister, bringing her and her husband the Blessed Sacrament often. The frequent visits of their dear friend Leo Roesler will not be forgotten and will always be held dear to her and her family.
Survivors include her loving husband of 50 years, Dr. Alvin G. LeRoy; their five children, Toni (husband, Gary) Foster of Frankton, Maureen Jordan and Nesie Ragsdale of Alexandria, Mike LeRoy of Modesto, Calif., and Kevin (wife, Dorothy) LeRoy of Wilmer, Ala.; her grandchildren, Grant, Frank, Kitty, Joe and Victor Foster of Frankton, Kelly, Tom, Jim and John Ragsdale of Alexandria, Kyle, Nicole and Luke Jordan of Alexandria, and Kelsey and Jon-Michael LeRoy of Modesto, Calif.; two sisters, June Turner of Kennesaw, Ga., and Jean Hunt of Woodford, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Gipe of Alexandria and Helen (husband, Bob) Bradford of Hochston, Ga.; plus many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Katherine "Kitty" Crowley and John Crowley; baby sister, Joan Crowley; and sister-in-law, Beatrice (LeRoy) Malin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Church of St. Mary's in Alexandria with Celebrants Fathers Paul Cochran, Kenneth Raczek and Victor Schott officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Interment of cremains will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery
in Elwood at a later date.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hueston-Whetsel Funeral Home, 1503 S. Park Ave. A Rosary service and Devine Mercy Chaplet will be said at 7 p.m.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Church of St. Mary's of Alexandria or St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Elwood through the funeral home.
Hulda E. Rye
JONESBORO -- Hulda E. Rye, 85, died April 6, 2002, at Twin City Healthcare Center in Gas City.
In 1979, she retired from Bell Fiber in Marion after 22 years of employment.
Survivors include her husband, Walter B. Rye; a daughter, Villanda Wable of Alexandria; two stepdaughters, Anna Louise (husband, Ralph) Kuhnley and Peggy Sue (husband, James) Gary; a stepson, Walter (wife, Jacqueline) Rye; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, officiated by the Rev. Ernest Laughner. Burial will be in Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion.
Visitation hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Lions Eye Bank or to the American Cancer Society through the funeral home.
James Stansberry
ELWOOD -- James "Pete" Stansberry, 90, died April 5, 2002, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after a brief illness.
In 1987, he retired from his work as a self-employed contractor.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy (husband, Rob) Higgins and Debbie (husband, John) Kellum; his sister, Mary Jane Peters; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Stansberry; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Jean (Glenn) Stansberry April 6, 1987.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Copher & Fesler Funeral Home, 415 S. Anderson St., Elwood, officiated by the Rev. Jack Cornwell. Burial will be in Elwood City Cemetery.
Visitation will be three hours prior to the Tuesday service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association through the funeral home.
Lewis C. Lloyd
Lewis "Cliff" "Arkie" C. Lloyd, 74, of Anderson, died April 6, 2002, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Jan. 15, 1928, in Bronston, Ky., and lived in this area most of his life.
In 1983, he retired from Delco Remy Division of General Motors after 30 years of employment.
He was a member of UAW Local 662. He loved bluegrass music, fishing, chopping wood and mowing grass. He also loved eating a good, greasy pork chop, York peppermint patties and Bledsoe's chocolate pie. He enjoyed his retirement to the fullest. Thanks, from the bottom of the family's hearts, to Hospice of St. John's Health System.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline "Jackie" (Williams) Lloyd, of Anderson; a daughter, Cathy (husband, Larry) Graham, of Anderson; three granddaughters, Autumn (husband, Bill) McCall of St. John, Audra (husband, Dustin) Hays of Peru and Alyssa Frazier of St. John; three great-grandchildren, Alexandra McCall, Hunter Hays and Bailey Hays; his sister, Ruth Stringer of Monticello, Ky.; two sisters-in-law, Bulah Lloyd of Anderson and Sarah Lloyd of Pendleton; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are several friends at Lost Lake Camp Ground, including John & Mary Smith and Bud and Betty Widows.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Edna (Bell) Lloyd.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson, officiated by the Rev. Gary McManus.
Visitation hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the South Chapel.

Wilma McCune
ALEXANDRIA -- Wilma McCune, 73, Alexandria, died April 4, 2002, at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis after a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 8, 1928, in Alexandria, the daughter of Henry and Emma Lucille (Hinshaw) Hague. She was a homemaker. Her family and her church were very important to her.
She was a 1946 graduate of Alexandria High School. From 1956 to 1981 she was a faithful pastor's wife and she continued to serve her church as the wife of the superintendent of the Central Yearly Meeting of Friends from 1980 to 1994. She was always an active Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed reading and was fond of embroidering.
She was a member of Gateway Friends Church in Kokomo. She attended the Ironwood Bible Methodist Church in Frankton.
Survivors include four daughters, Sharon (husband, Terry) Haight of Pittsfield, Pa., Diana (husband, Wayne) Covert of Winchester, Becky (husband, Steve) Pyle of Jonesboro and Pam McCune of Lancaster, Pa.; two sons, Larry McCune of Summitville and Jim (wife, Vicki) McCune of Marion; daughter-in-law, Brenda McCune of Jonesboro; sister, Ruth Ehrhart of Anderson; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in her parents; husband, the Rev. Ollie McCune, died in 1995; son, Stephen McCune, died in 1997; a sister, Mary Lou Six; and four brothers, Elbert Hague, Lester Hague, William Hague and Harold Hague.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Noffze Funeral Home, 501 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, officiated by the Revs. Jonathan Edward, Duane Quesenberry and Chris Blankenship. Burial will be in Vinson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Paul F. Wilke
Paul F. Wilke, 91, Crown Point Senior Living Community, died April 4, 2002, at Community Hospital.
He was born May 8, 1910, in St. Charles, Mo., and lived in Anderson for the past 20 years. He was a retired certified public accountant. He had worked for John Deere, Inter-Costal Paint Co. and did public accounting.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Anderson. He was a member of the Paul Revere Masonic Lodge AF&AM in St. Louis, Mo. He was an avid Missouri Tiger athletic fan and enjoyed watching the games. He was a 1933 graduate of the University of Missouri.
Survivors include a daughter, Andrea (husband, Ron) Koepke of Anderson; a granddaughter, Laura Koepke of Chicago, Ill.; a grandson, Todd Koepke of Bloomington; three nieces; and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav and Anna (Strathmann) Wilke; wife, whom he married Aug. 5, 1939, in Columbia, Ill., Dorothy (Schmidt) Wilke, who died on March 26, 1999; a brother, Gustav Wilke; and a sister, Martha Poser.
Services were conducted Saturday at Lawler Funeral Home, 218 S. Metter Ave., Columbia, Ill., with Pastor Rob Page officiating. Burial took place in Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery, Columbia, Ill.
Local arrangements were handled by Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel.

Deva E. Martin
MIDDLETOWN -- Deva E. (Moorman) Martin, 89, Middletown, died April 4, 2002, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born July 2, 1912, in Phlox, and lived in the Elwood-Anderson area most of her life. She retired from Guide Lamp Division of General Motors after 18 years of employment.
She was a past member of the Anderson Order of Eastern Star and the United Auto Workers Local 663.
Survivors include a son, Darrell A. Martin of Middletown; a sister, Mable Kleyla of Anderson; two grandchildren, Natalie Graves and special friend Jim White of Warren, Minn., and Rhonda Kridler of Middletown; five great-grandchildren, Amanda Graves, Nicole Graves and Ryan White, all of Warren, Minn., and Samantha Kridler and Dakota Kridler, both of Middletown; five nephews, Monty Kleyla, Robert Kleyla, Jimmy Kleyla, Gene Moorman and Larry Moorman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Cora (Overman) Moorman; brothers, Melvin Moorman and Ivan Moorman; a sister, Flossie Lynas and a daughter-in-law, Shirley (Bonner) Martin.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson, officiated by the Rev. Mike Thacker. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the South Chapel.
Betty L. Bennett
Betty Lou (Crane) Bennett, 72, of Anderson, died April 6, 2002, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
She was born Jan. 7, 1930, in Bluffton. She moved from Hartford City to Anderson over 40 years ago.
She was a homemaker.
She was an avid bingo player and a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, whom she married in Hartford City, Alfred E. "Tom" Bennett; children, Liesa Bennett and fiancé, Brent Busby of Anderson, Randy (wife, Ruthanne) Bennett of Chesterfield, Douglas (wife, Dorothy) Bennett and Michelle Bennett, all of Anderson; grandchildren, Brandy Bennett and Randy Bennett, both of Anderson; two stepgrandchildren, Casey Shaw of Pendleton and Bryon Shaw of Chesterfield; six great-grandchildren, Haleigh Busby, Logan Busby, Alexceigh Westrater, Kaleib Bennett, Keegan Bennett and Kameron Bennett, all of Anderson; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Fawn Cooper and Lief Cooper, both of Pendleton, and Travis Shaw of Chesterfield; a niece, Marilyn Bennett of Indianapolis; two nephews, Johnny Bennett of Indianapolis and Steve (wife, Elaine) Grace of Clarksville, Tenn. Also surviving are special friends, Ray Yockey and Barbara Baker, both of Anderson, and all of her friends at the 29th Street Cafe and P.A.L. Club Bingo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Bessie Mae (Rickets) Crane.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes and Crematory, South Chapel, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson, officiated by James E. Harrison. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery
in Muncie.
