Treva Irene Hoffman
Treva Irene Hoffman, residing in South Bend, passed away at 8: 15 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2008 in
her home at the age of 96.
She was born May 14, 1912 in Nappanee to Ervin and Cora E. (Schalliol) Hygema, and has
remained a lifelong resident of this area. On Dec. 27, 1930 in Nappanee, she and George A.
Hoffman were united in married by her grandfather, Rev. David Hygema. Mr. Hoffman passed
away June 9, 1989. Two sisters, Fern Feitz and Mabel Annis, and four brothers, Clyde, Donald,
Kenneth, and Ervin Hygema also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Hoffman retired in 1977 from Ristance Corp. and had formerly been employed with
Woolworth’s as well. She was a longtime active member of St. John United Church of Christ, Woodland.
Two daughters, Evelyn Penrod of Lakeville, and Phyllis and Larry Schafer of South Bend, and a
son, Duwaine and Yvonne Hoffman of South Bend, survive Mrs. Hoffman. Also surviving are 16
grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and nine great- great-grandchildren. A sister, Erma Miller
of South Bend survives Treva as well.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5, at St. John United Church of Christ, Woodland.
Rev. Jo An Schaetzle, pastor will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. John’s
cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Palmer
Funeral Home-Lakeville, 314 S. Michigan St., Lakeville, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the Church.
Contributions in memory of Mrs. Hoffman may be made to St. John United Church of Christ,
P.O. Box 835, Wyatt, IN 46595.

Deloris Mae Dean
PLYMOUTH – Deloris Mae Dean, 1332 Dora Lane, Plymouth, died at her home on Monday, June 2, 2008. She was 71-years-old.
Deloris was born in Fall City, Neb. on Jan. 23, 1937. She was the daughter of Jake Brisby and
Elvina Luella Anna Brisby. She was raised by Elvina and Clarence Elmer Hite, who raised her as
his own daughter. She attended school until the sixth grade.
On Jan. 14, 1954, in Fall City, Deloris and Clarence Earl Dean were married . Clarence died on May 17, 1997.
Deloris was a homemaker and part of a military family until they settled in Plymouth 35 years ago.
A very charitable woman she was active with many programs.
She helped to found the Plymouth Neighborhood Center and worked with the Food Basket
program. She volunteered for the March of Dimes and the Christmas Tree Program. She
helped with the South Bend chili supper for disadvantaged people.
She was a member of the Indiana National Guard Women’s Auxiliary, a devoted Christian she
was a member of the Church of Christ in Nebraska and was baptized in the Zion Baptist Chapel in Jack, Ala.
Deloris is survived by five daughters and three sons. Her daughters are: Helen Ruth (Eric)
Goodrich of Plymouth, Eunice Anna Marie Klaer of Parkhill, Mo., Cindy Lou Sanders of Jack,
Ala., Mary Darlene Dean and Kathleen Louise Dean of Plymouth.
Her three sons are: Earl Franklin (Mary) Dean: Clarence “Chip” Elmer Dean and Jakie O’Dell Dean, all of Plymouth.
One brother, Jake Brisby of St. Joe, Mo., and a sister, Mary (Jim) Reed of Bristol, also survive,
together with 28 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Deloris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Darlene Brisby Stewart, a
baby brother, Billy Brisby.
Friends are invited to be with her family and share memories of Deloris and her life on
Wednesday, June 4, 2008, from 5 to 8 p.m in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N.
Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services, officiated by Rev. Larry Ferguson will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, June 5, 2008, at 11 a.m.
Burial will be in New Oakhill cemetery.
Memorial gifts in Deloris’ memory may be made to The American Cancer Society.

Ricky Howard
ATWOOD — Ricky Howard, 35, of Atwood, died Monday, June 2, 2008 at 6: 14 a.m. in
Logansport Memorial Hospital as a result of complications of a motorcycle accident in 2007.
He is survived by his father, Beech Howard of Atwood and his children: Kirstan Shiann, Ricky
Auston, Bryndin Taylor and Kaylin Louise Howard with their mother, Angel Best of Elkhart. His
two sisters: Charlene Howard of Logansport and Tammy Bradley of Ligonier, and two brothers:
Dewayne (Marla) Howard of Bremen and Lance Howard of Ft. Wayne also survive.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 5 at 11 a.m. in Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home,
Bourbon. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in
the Pleasant Hill cemetery, Bourbon.

Brandon Damien Keller
ROCHESTER — Brandon Damien Keller, 18, of 6779 N. S.R. 25, Rochester, went to be with
God on June 2, 2008.
Brandon was born May 5, 1990, in South Bend, to Tonya Keller and David Breyfogle.
Surviving family includes: his parents: Tonya (Keller) and Mario Martinez of Logansport, and
David (Heather) Breyfogle of Rochester; grandparents: Jerome and Rea Keller of Monterey and
Robert and Doris Breyfogle of Culver; great-grandmother, Marilyn Powlen of Winamac; brothers:
Emmanuel and Mario Martinez of Logansport; sister, Eva Martinez of Logansport; uncle, Jeff
(Kathy) Keller of Monterey; aunts: Amy (Rahul) Sarkar of Rochester and Stephanie (Josh)
Thomas of Monterey; uncle, Scott Breyfogle of Plymouth; aunts: Katherine Breyfogle of Culver,
and Karen (Sal) LaDuca of Phillipsburg, N.J.; and cousin, Sarah Keller of Monterey.
Brandon was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents: Clement and Marjorie
Keller, Sr., and Richard Powlen; and paternal great-grandparents: Harold and Sara Breyfogle,
and Robert and Mildred Dooley.
Visitation with the family will be held Friday, June 6, 2008 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Bonine-Odom
Funeral Home, Culver with a Spiritual Wake service led by Father Bert Woolson at 7: 30 p.m. A
mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the St. Anne’s Catholic
Church in Monterey. Brandon will be laid to rest in St. Anne’s cemetery, Monterey.
Memorials may be given to Riley Hospital for Children or Memorial Hospital of South Bend.

Charles E. Elam
KNOX — Charles E. Elam, 81, died Tuesday, June 3, 2008 in Riverview Hospital, Noblesville.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara (Kenneth) Foreman of Tippecanoe; two sons: John of
Warsaw and Michael (Wendy) of Grovertown; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren;
three brothers, Joe of Knox, Jack of Indianapolis and Bill of Lamar, Colo.
A Military Honor Service will be held Friday at 6 p.m. (Central Time) at Rannells Funeral Home,
Hamlet Chapel. Friends may call Friday from 3 to 5: 30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be given to the family.

Loretta M. Grimes
CULVER — Loretta M. Grimes, 77, of Culver passed away at home on June 3, 2008.
Loretta was born on Dec. 5, 1930, one of six children born to Burl and Mary (Walsh) Schofield in Frankfort, Ill. She was married in Metropolis, Ill. To Robert W. Grimes in May of 1976.
They later moved to Marshall County and eventually Culver, where she lived for the past 21 years. She retired from Ristance Corp in Argos after working there for many years.
Loretta was a faithful member of St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church in Culver and a member of the Finney-Shilling VFW Post 6919 Ladies Auxiliary of Culver. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and reading Harlequin Romance novels.
She is survived by her loving daughters: Rachael (Ed) Tibbs of Bristol, Conn., Donna (Tom) Woodward of Culver, Christine (Michael) Foster of Rochester, and Bobbie Jo (Mike) Grover of Culver; son, Rudy (Mary) Konderla of Lapaz; and numerous grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers; one sister; and her daughter, Deborah Grimes.
A time of sharing memories with the family will be held Saturday, June 7, 2008 from 5 to 7 p.m. EDT at the Bonine-Odom Funeral Home, Culver. Father Glenn Kohrman will officiate funeral services at 7 p.m. Interment will be private.
Memorials may be given to the Finney-Shilling VFW Post 6919 Ladies Auxiliary of Culver in Loretta's memory.

Gertrude Marie Pace
ROCHESTER — Gertrude Marie Pace, 80, of Rochester, died at 12: 15 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Life Care Center of Rochester.
She is survived by daughters: Donna (Alan) Templeton of Akron and Barbara (Tony) Zglenicki of Lucedale, Miss.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 10: 30 a.m. Friday, June 6 at Thrailkill cemetery, near Swayzee.
The Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester, is in charge of the arrangements.

Marvin "Muzz" Sumpter
BREMEN — Marvin “Muzz” Sumpter, 86, of Bremen, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at his residence.
He is survived by a son, Tom (Sherry) Sumpter of Morriston, Fla.; a daughter, Janice (Charlie) Spencer of Bremen; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and long-time companion, Edith Rector.
Services will be held Friday, June 6 at 10: 30 a.m. at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 5 at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Bremen cemetery. There will be military graveside services at the cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Geraldine Timms
ARGOS — Geraldine Timms, 92, of Argos, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at 7: 55 a.m.
She is survived by her brothers: Kenneth (Darlene) Brugh of Yorkville, Ill. and Ernest (Florence) Brugh of Sebring, Fla.; her daughter, Phyllis (Ray) Cox of Evansville; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation with the family will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. EDT Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Grace United Church of Christ, 307 N. Plymouth St., Culver, immediately followed by a memorial service in celebration of Geraldine’s life.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace UCC General Fund.
The Bonine-Odom Funeral Home, Culver, is in charge of arrangements

Anna Melnik
PLYMOUTH — Anna Melnik, 92, of Plymouth, died Friday, June 6 at Miller’s Merry Manor.
Anna is survived by a daughter, Mary (Jim) Mohon of Plymouth; three sons: George (Chalene)
Melnik of Munster, Ind., Joe (Beverly) Melnik of Las Vegas, Nev. And John (Beverly) Melnik of
Crown Pointe, Ind.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place Monday, June 9 at 10 a.m., one hour prior to the funeral service at 11
a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Walkerton. Burial will follow at Calumet Park cemetery, Crown Point.
Rannell’s Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel, is handling arrangements.

Grace Caroline Wagner
INDIANAPOLIS — Grace Caroline Wagner, infant daughter of Scott and Katrina (Siebenmorgen) Wagner, died Friday, June 6, 2008 at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis.
Services were held Tuesday, June 10, at Anderson Memorial Park cemetery at 2 p.m.
Arrangements entrusted to Randall & Roberts Funeral Homes, Noblesville-Fishers.

Jim Bazini
LAKEVILLE — Jim Bazini, 48, of Lakeville, died Saturday, June 7 at St. Joseph’s Regional
Medical Center, South Bend, following an illness.
Jim is survived by his wife Sandra Bazini; his mother and stepfather Rosemary and Don
Laughlin of Claypool; two sisters: Christine (David) Sands of Syracuse and Theresa (Tom)
Breading of Warsaw; two stepsisters: Theresa (Mike) Silver of Indianapolis and Michelle (Sean)
Koos of Warsaw and a stepbrother, Chad (Manika) Laughlin of Warsaw.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. and after 7 a.m. on Wednesday,
June 11 at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth.
Funeral services will take place at the funeral home June 11 at 10 a.m.
Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation.

Nellie P. Bridges
KOONTZ LAKE — Nellie P. Bridges, 95, of Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa, formerly of Koontz Lake, died Saturday, June 7, 2008.
Nellie is survived by three daughters: Faith Knight of Peoria, Ill., Phyllis Robbins of Port Huron, Mich. And Joyce Swartz of Hot Springs, Ark.; two sons: Norman Bridges of Mishawaka and Phillip Bridges of Koontz Lake; a brother, Arhur Ackley of Colorado Springs, Colo.; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, June 10 at the Koontz Lake Missionary Church at 9 a.m., one
hour prior to funeral services at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow at the Grovertown cemetery.
Rannell’s Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel, is handling arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be offered to the Koontz Lake Missionary Church or Bethel College.

Derek R. Layton
GOSHEN, Ala. — Derek R. Layton, 31, died June 7 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash in Goshen, Ala.
There will be a memorial service Saturday, June 28 at 11 a.m. at Grace United Church of Christ, Culver.
Derek loved fast horses, fast cars and fast motorcycles but most of all he loved all his family and friends.

Linda Lee Baty
BRAZIL — Linda Lee Baty, 52, of Brazil, died Sunday, June 8, 2008 at 1: 34 p.m. at St. Vincent Clay Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Dan; sons, Paul and Tina Baty and Jason Baty; two granddaughters; and a sister, Teresa Speegle.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, June 12 at 5 p.m. at First Christian Church. Visitation is from 3 to 5 p.m.
Memorial contributions be made to the Friendly Benwood Christian Campground, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
French Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Helen M. Hollan
BREMEN — Helen M. Hollan, 61, of Bremen, died at her residence Sunday, June 8, 2008.
Survivors include her husband, Edward Hollan of Bremen; sons: Scott Calhoun of Bremen and
Steve Cook of Bremen; stepdaughters: Melissa Baughfam of Cape Canaveral, Fla., and Tina
Hollan of Logansport; brothers: Kenneth Whitaker of Bremen and Chuck Whitaker of Lakeville;
11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 12 at Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen. Burial will
take place at Bremen cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the South Side Baptist Church in Mishawaka.

Harry C. Peters
Harry C. Peters, 90, formerly of Culver, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2008, in Miller’s Merry
Manor in Plymouth. Harry, one of two children born to Charles and Altie Peters was born on April
17, 1918 in Kewanna. He was a hard worker who spent his entire life farming.
He is survived by nephews: Roger Foglesong of Dunkirk, and Carl Foglesong of Oviedo, Fla.; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by both parents and his sister, Esther Foglesong.
A time of sharing memories with Harry’s family will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2008 from 1 to
2 p.m. EDT at the Bonine-Odom Funeral Home in Culver. A graveside service will follow at the
Pleasant Hill cemetery in Kewanna, south of Bruce Lake at 2: 45 p.m.
Memorials may be given to the Culver Bible Church in Harry’s memory.

Robert D., Sr. Pranger
PLYMOUTH — Robert D. Pranger Sr., 63, of Plymouth, died at 1: 15 p.m., Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; sons: Robert and Patricia Pranger of Plymouth and Richard
and Lisa Pranger of Plymouth; daughter, Renee Bunger Pranger of Plymouth; eight
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Pearl and Watson White Jr. of Culver; brother,
Albert and Pauline Pranger; his brother-in-law, Donald and Sandy Davenport of Plymouth; his
sisters-in-law, Dorothy and David England of Plymouth and Lorraine Davenport of Tippecanoe.
There will be no visitation. A private graveside service will take place at a later date in Oak Hill cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorial contributions be given to Marshall County Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 112 S. Center St. Plymouth, IN, 46563.
The Van Gilder Funeral Home, Plymouth, is handling the arrangements.
