Evieanna "Wendy" Kinne
PLYMOUTH – Evieanna “Wendy” Kinne, 56, 6th Road, Plymouth, went home to be with her Lord
and Savior on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 in Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
Wendy was born in West Virginia, the daughter of Robert and Mary Sexton on April 8, 1952. She
attended school in West Virginia.
On March 17, 1995, in Plymouth, Wendy and John Kinne were married
in Plymouth
A homemaker, she enjoyed fishing, gardening and cooking. She liked to look at catalogs and
spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Wendy is survived by John, her husband, and by two daughters, Michelle (Hugh) Yoder, Milford
and Robin Luce, Rochester.
Four granddaughters, Haley Yoder, Rochester, Adrieanna and Sarah Yoder Milford and Hannah
Luce, Rochester, and a grandson, Steven Yoder, also of Milford, survive as well.
A sister, Colleen Sexton, Lexington, Mich., and a brother, Robert Sexton, also of Lexington, also survive.
Wendy was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Jo Jackson and Roberta Sexton.
Friends are invited to share memories of Wendy with her family from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday,
May 4, 2008, at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Visitation will continue after 7 a.m. on Monday, May 5.
Funeral services for Wendy will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 5, 2008, in the funeral home
with Pastor Charles Krieg officiating.
Burial will be in New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
Edward A. Schaefer
NORTH JUDSON — Edward A. Schaefer, 58, of North Judson, died Wednesday, April 29, 2008 at home.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Schaefer of North Judson; sons: Eric Schaefer of Knox, Kevin
Schaefer of Flowery Branch, Ga. And Jeremy Schaefer of North Judson; daughters: Carrie
Belue of Portage, Dawn Schaefer of North Judson and Natalie Schaefer of Lake Station; and
sisters: Sandy Mills of Plymouth and Connie Perez of Burns Harbor.
Visitation is Friday, May 2 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Braman & Bailey Funeral Home, North Judson.
Funeral services are Friday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will take place.
Nancy Marie Lawmaster Wicker
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Nancy Marie Lawmaster Wicker, 48, of Greensboro, N.C., formerly of
Bourbon, died on Tuesday afternoon, April 29, 2008 at University of North Carolina Hospital of
injuries she suffer in a single car crash last weekend.
She was born the daughter of the late Clifford Lawmaster and Eva Thompson Lawmaster on
Oct. 20, 1959 in Warsaw, and had been a resident of the Greensboro area for the past 25 years
moving there from Bourbon.
Nancy was married
to Howard Bradley Wicker who survives along with two sons: Clint
Lovendahl and Clifford Lovendahl, both of the Greensboro, N.C. area. She is also survived by
her mother, Eva Lawmaster of Pierceton; a sister, Sandra (Glenn) Disher of Bourbon and a
brother, Larry (Osie) Lawmaster of Pierceton.
She was preceded in death by her father and two brothers, Gary and Bruce.
Nancy was a teacher assistant at Pleasant Garden Elementary School sin 1993.
“Nancy was a very loving, kind, generous person, ” said kindergarten teacher Marty Hodgin, who
had worked in the same room with Nancy for the past two years. “The children adored her. She
was very positive and she always had a positive attitude with the children.”
“We’d been together for two years, " she said. "The parents loved her. The children loved her.
I’ve been getting a lot of support from the community and the school. We were co-workers, but
we were friends too. We laughed a lot, and we had fun at our job.” “She was a very positive
influence on a lot of kids’ lives, " said Hodgin.
The 23 boys and girls in Mrs. Hodgin’s class wrote farewell notes to their friend. They taped
messages to balloons and took them to the Pleasant Garden Elementary School playground and
released them sending messages into the endless blue sky.
She will be greatly missed by all.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 8 in the Deaton-Clemens
Funeral Home at 115 S. Main St. Bourbon, and for one hour before services in the church Friday.
A funeral service to celebrate Nancy’s life will be held on Friday, May 9 at 10: 30 a.m. at Bourbon
First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Day officiating.
Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill cemetery at Bourbon, Indiana.
The family requests any memorial contributions be made to: Mothers Against Drunk Drivers or
Riley Children’s Hospital in her memory.

Keith Winterrowd
PIERCETON — Keith Winterrowd, 85, of Pierceton, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 12: 40 a.m.
at Miller’s Merry Manor, Syracuse.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Winterrowd of Pierceton; daughters: Karen Winterrowd of
Fort Wayne and Mrs. Jim (Carla) Hamilton of Goshen; son, Dean Opdycke of Fremont; sister,
Martha Schroeder of Lakeland, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton, Friday, May 2 at 11 a.m.
Visitation was held from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral chapel Thursday, May 1. Burial will be at
Bremen cemetery, Bremen, with military rites by North Webster American Legion Post #253.

Gerald W., Rev. Fish
SACRAMENTO, CALIF. — Rev. Gerald W. Fish, 90, of Sacramento, Calif., formerly of Tiosa,
Ind., died Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 7: 15 p.m. at his residence.
He is survived by his wife Burnette C. Fish of Sacramento, Calif.: a son, Kenton W. (Margaret)
Fish of Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandsons: Gerald A. Fish of Las Vegas, Nev. And Michael Fish of
Grand Haven, Mich.; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place Tuesday May 6 from 1: 30 p.m. at the Jordan Baptist Church, 11447
19th Road., Argos until funeral service begins.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 6 at the church.
Burial will follow at Jordan cemetery, Argos.

Charles Miller
WARSAW — Charles Miller, 95, of Warsaw, died at 2: 15 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at
Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel; daughter, Karen (John) Fleck of San Diego, Calif.; son, Dennis
(Teresa) Miller of Warsaw; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of the life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 2 at the Good Family Funeral Home,
1200 W. 18th St., Rochester. Interment will follow at Rochester’s IOOF cemetery. Visitation is
from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service.
Memorials may made to the Talma United Methodist Church.
Marie C. Rice
Marie C. Rice, 93, of Carmel, formerly of Bluffton, died at 8: 15 a.m. Wednesday, April 30 at
Manor Care at Summer Trace, Carmel.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Franklin D. (Christine) Wilson of Carmel; stepdaughter, Melba
(Sam) Holmgren of Plymouth; stepsons: Gene (Sue) Rice of Columbia City and Ron (DiAnne)
Rice of Ospray, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Saturday, May 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel, Bluffton. Funeral
services are Saturday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fairview cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the “Walk thru the Bible” program or Heartland Hospice at the funeral home.
Vere H. Stiver
BOURBON — Vere H. Stiver, 86, of 601 Sunset Drive, Bourbon, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 2: 08 a.m. in Lutheran Hospital of Ft. Wayne. He had been in failing health.
Vere was born the son of Roy Stiver and Eva Nine Stiver on June 10, 1921 at Warsaw. He was
a resident of Bourbon since 1946.
He retired from Biomet Inc. of Warsaw as a machinist. He graduated from Atwood High School
in the class of 1941.
He was married
March 21, 1946 to Phyllis Cline who survives along with their two sons: Paul
(Brenda) Stiver of Argos and Steve (Cindy) Stiver of Warsaw. He was also blessed with a
grandson, Christopher, and two step-grandchildren. A sister Maxine Laughlin of Warsaw also survives.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Vere was a faithful member of the First United Church of Christ in Bourbon. He was President of
the Consistory and had taught the youth group at his church along with many other tasks and
maintenance around the Church. He was a member of the Bourbon (Plymouth) Masonic Lodge
and served as a past Master. He had served as “Rainbow Pop” for the Rainbow organization of
the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Bourbon Lions Club where he served as Chaplin.
Vere served in the United States Navy during World II and during the Korean Conflict from 1941-
1947 and 1950-1952. He was also a member of the Bourbon American Legion Post #424.
Vere loved serving others in the community. He worked several years with the Deaton-Clemens
Funeral Home where he was able to share his compassion with others. He spent many hours in
the local coffee shop sharing stories with others on a daily basis.
A funeral service to celebrate Vere’s life will be held Saturday, May 3 at 10: 30 a.m. in First
United Church of Christ with Rev. Linda Hewitt officiating.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, in the Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home at 115 S. Main St. Bourbon.
A Masonic Lodge service will be at 7 p.m. in the funeral home Friday.
Burial will follow in the Bremen cemetery at Bremen with Military Honors.
The family requests any memorial contributions be made to: Bourbon (Multi Township) EMS or
his Church in his memory.
The family of Vere Stiver wishes to thank the community for the outpouring support and concern
shown to them throughout his illness. There were many people from the community who
transported Vere to and from his dialysis appointments, doctors appointments or that helped in
many different ways. May God Bless each and every one of you.

Lisa G. Denney
PLYMOUTH — Lisa G. Denney, 47, of Plymouth, died at 5 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Denney of Plymouth; her parents, Anthony and Nellie
Stults; a daughter, Chanelle Nicole Stults; a brother, Michael Stults; a sister Jacqueline Stults; a
sister-in-law, Ann Stults; a nephew, Jason Stults and a niece, Michaela Stults.
The Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, is handling the arrangements.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the donor’s choice.
Alfred Spencer
HAMLET — Alfred Spencer, 64, died Thursday, May 1 at his home.
He is survived by two brothers, Arthur Spencer and Alan Spencer, both of Hamle, t and one
sister, Anita Mulligan of Winlock, Wash. There will be no services or visitation.
Cremation will take place. Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel is handling arrangements.
Kristi Jo Naylor Scruggs
PLYMOUTH — Kristi Jo Naylor Scruggs, 56, of Plymouth died at 11: 40 a.m. Friday, May 2,
2008, at Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home in Plymouth.
She is survived by her sons: Phillip (Stacy) Scruggs of Brookston and Daniel (Rena) Scruggs of
Stewartville, Minn.; three grandsons; and her brothers: Ronald (Susan) Naylor of Muncie,
Michael (Anne) Naylor of Swansea, Ill., Kent (Gail) Naylor of Plymouth, and Mark (Jeannie)
Naylor of Winchester, Va.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 17, 2008, at 11: 30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian
Church, Plymouth. Visitation is at 10 a.m. in the church until time of service at 11: 30 a.m. A
private interment will follow in New Oak Hill cemetery.

Stephen Louis Toth
HAMLET — Stephen Louis Toth, 60, died Friday, May 2, 2008, in LaPorte County, Ind.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; one daughter, Stefanie (Chris) Olson of LaPorte; one son,
Donald (Dana) Toth of Hamlet; three grandchildren, Devon and Delilah Toth and Grant Olson;
one brother, Daniel Toth Jr. of Union Mills.
Friends may call Tuesday, May 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. (CDT) at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet
Chapel and Wednesday at the church after 10 a.m.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 7 at 11 a.m. CDT at the Knox United Methodist
Church with Pastor Ray Squibb officiating.
Burial will be in the Fletcher cemetery, Hamlet. Memorial contributions may be made to the
Knox United Methodist Church in his memory.
John William Epley
PLYMOUTH — John William Epley, resident of Plymouth, died at 5: 50 a.m. Saturday, May 3,
2008 in Catherine Kasper Life Center, where he had been a patient the past two weeks.
He was born the son of Lawrence and Jessie Vain (White) Epley, on Dec. 23, 1923, Whiting, Lake County.
John attended Whiting High School and Indiana University. While in high school, he headed
Young America Wants to Help, British War Relief and Junior Red Cross. He was awarded
athletic letter on tennis team.
John served in United States Army as a Sergeant from 1943 to 1945, CBI (China-Burma-India),
was honorably discharged and awarded several medals, including a Battle Star and Presidential
Unit Citation. He started a relief program for Hamburg, Germany, after the war and was honored
with an award from that city for his post-war efforts.
From 1940 to 1955, he served as administrative assistant to two mayors of Whiting and was
elected a precinct committeeman and also the Democratic City Chairman.
Employed by Amoco Oil Company (now BP) in 1955, he was then promoted to managerproduction
control scheduling, remaining in management until his retirement on Oct. 1, 1986,
with more than 30 years service. He moved to Plymouth on Sept. 1, 1994.
John was proud of his heritage and received great pleasure in pursuit of genealogy, reading and
staying informed. He was a member of many Who’s Who hereditary societies including the
Alexis Coquillard Chapter, sons of the American Revolution, with soldier-patriots in both
maternal and paternal sides of family: Founders and Patriots of America, Mac-Alasdair Clan
(Scotland); Descendants of Godred Crovan, King of Dublin, Man and the Hebrides (Norse),
Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, Sons of Confederate Veterans, American Legion,
Post No. 27, Plymouth, Life Member: Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 1162, Plymouth, Life
Member; Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge #741, Plymouth, and others.
John was a unique person and a genealogist, prolific writer of family history, author of many
volumes, with copies in the Library of Congress, History Library of the Church of Latter-Day
Saints, libraries and historical societies around the United States. He was also nominated for
“Who’s Who in the Midwest.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother; Lawrence Everett Epley, sisters; Elsie
Eveline Stinson, Lyda Fern Trahan Murphy, Hazel Dawn Leech Snyder, infant brother; Jarrett
Epley, infant sister; Mae Epley, a nephew; Robert John Stinson and brother-in-law; Robert
Stinson and niece, Dianne M. Tripodi, wife of Roland.
Survivors include nephews, Roland Everett Leech, Dale Robert (Patricia) Leech, all of Plymouth;
nieces, Karen Dawn (Ron) VanDusen, Plymouth; Sherry Lee (Robert) Tuszynski, Naperville, Ill.;
Janelle Linda (Walter) Jurkiewicz, Port Henry, N.Y.: great-nephews include; Bruce (Gabby)
Tuszynski of Aurora, Ill., Robert R. Stinson, Jeffrey J. Stinson, both of Texas; Jason Robert
Leech, Andrew Clayton “Drew” Leech, Dalton Trent VanDusen, all of Plymouth; great-nieces,
Jessica Dawn Lynn Leech of Plymouth and Lori Lynn Self of Texas; several great-great nieces
and nephews; brothers-in-law, Robert Omer Stinson, Hammond, and Gale Murphy, South Bend.
Friends are invited to join the family on Wednesday, May 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth to celebrate John’s life where
services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday. Calling will continue after 7 a.m. until time of services.
Pastor Delmas Stiles of the Good News Baptist Church, of which John was an accepted
member will officiate.
Military honors will be accorded by members of the American Legion Post 27.
Burial will be in Big Prairie cemetery, Epworth Township, White County, Ill.
Memorial gifts in John’s memory may be made to the donor’s choice.
