Mary V. Snyder
PLYMOUTH — Mary V. Snyder, 87, of Plymouth, died at 2: 45 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2008, at home.
She is survived by her grandsons: Melvin and Julie Snyder, David and Trish Snyder, and Andrew
Snyder, all of Plymouth; her granddaughters, Teresa Snyder and Mary Snyder, both of
California; five great-grandchildren; her sisters, Phyllis Bee of Elkhart, Geneva Hawes, Cindy
Phelps, and Betty Moore, all of Evansville, Margaret Springston of Selvin, and Myra Needler of
Rochester, N.Y.; and her brother, Jerry Holland of Indianapolis.
There will be no service or visitation. Cremation has taken place, and burial will be at a later
date. The Van Gilder Funeral Home, Plymouth, is handling the arrangements.

Juanita M. Wagoner
Oct. 1, 1928 - April 4, 2008
ROCHESTER — Juanita M. Wagoner, 79, of 13th Street, Rochester, passed away at 3: 45 a.m.
on Friday, April 4, 2008, at the Life Care Center in Rochester.
Juanita was born on Oct. 1, 1928, in Bremen, to Claude and Frances (Fetters) Booker. Juanita
and Robert D. Wagoner were married in Plymouth on Dec. 29, 1945. The Wagoners owned and
operated a coin laundry, Wagoner Radiator, and Wag’s TV and Appliances in Rochester.
Juanita and Robert raised their four sons together. They had been residents of the Rochester
area since 1950 and had attended the First Baptist Church, in Rochester, since then. Juanita
was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed
antiques, swinging on the porch, cleaning house, bowling, card club with her friends, family
activities, playing dominoes with her grandchildren, and eating her favorite “Flagpole” ice cream.
Juanita is survived by her sons: Gregory Wagoner of Indianapolis, Mark and Cindy Wagoner of
Greensboro, N.C., Philip and Terri Wagoner of Greenwood and Todd Wagoner of Taylorville, Ill.;
her grandchildren: Cyle (Chris) Wagoner, Cory Wagoner, Paige Wagoner, Ty Wagoner, Eric
Wagoner, Patrick Wagoner, Kaitlyn Wagoner, and Alyssa Wagoner; one great-grandchild, Evan;
and her sister Claudine of Plymouth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D.
Wagoner, and two infant sons.
Funeral services, for Juanita, will be held at Noon, on Friday, April 11, 2008 at Van Gilder
Funeral Home in Plymouth, with Rev. Mark Spencer officiating. Burial will be in New Oak Hill cemetery, Plymouth.
A time of visiting with the Wagoner family will be on Friday, April 11, 2008 from 10 a.m. until
Noon at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be given to the Alzheimer’s
Services of Northern Indiana, 922 E. Colfax Ave., South Bend, IN 46617 or Southern Care
Hospice, 310 W. McKinley Ave., Mishawaka, IN 46565.

James E., Sr Locke
WALKERTON — James E. Locke Sr., 57, of Walkerton, died Saturday, April 5, 2008.
He is survived by his wife, Laurice (Inman); three children: Becky Locke of South Bend,
Elizabeth Locke of Walkerton and James Locke Jr. of Walkerton; siblings: Joan Piper of
Greenville, Ken., Monica Kirk of Cave Creek, Ariz., Lorriane Beron of South Bend, John Locke
Jr. of Springport, Mich. and Joe Locke of Spring Valley, Ohio and two grandchildren: Sabrina and Noah Locke.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the M.C. Smith Funeral Home, Knox.
Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, April 9 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with burial to take place following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Victoria Bell McGlothin Russel
Victoria Bell McGlothin Russell returned peacefully to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at 9: 56 p.m., surrounded by family at home after fighting a year-long illness.
She was born on April 3, 1949, to Wilma and Woodie McGlothin. She married William Everett
“Bill” Russell on Sept. 20, 1969, in Leiters Ford and was sealed at the LDS Temple in Salt Lake
City, Utah, on Oct. 20, 1971. Bill and Vicky have three children: a son, Scott and wife Kellie
Russell, children Claire, Madeline, Laura, Jessica, Katelin and Evelyn of Plain City, Utah; and
two daughters: Gretchen and husband Scott Johnson, children Michael, Renae, Rebekah and
Elizabeth, and Haidee and husband Michael Temme, children Zachary, Russell and Alexandra, all of Leiters Ford.
Bill and Vicky opened their home and hearts to many. Extended children and grandchildren
include Kristina Risner, children Ashley and Richard, Richard Ganshow, Karla and husband
Mitch Rutledge, children Linda and Andres, all of Kentucky, Rob and Kira Bettcher, children Andi
and Robby of Winamac, and foreign exchange daughter Jantje Roder of Germany.
Besides her family, Vicky leaves behind sisters: Pat Plothow, Leiters Ford, and Bettie and
husband Ron, Kewanna, a brother-in-law, Norman with wife Lane Wagoner, Sheridan, with several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death: parents, Wilma and Woodie McGlothin; in-laws, Everett and Pauline
Russell; brother-in-law, Fritz Plothow; and sisters-in-law, Barbara Wagoner and Rebecca Nelson
For the past 29 years, Vicky worked at Culver Academies, where she was known by many as
“Mother Russell.” Work was much more than a job for her. Vicky was involved with a mentoring
program, “teen talk, ” and involved with many students, getting them into the college of their
choice and much more. She was an active and energetic member of the Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-Day Saints, where she fulfilled many callings, and she enjoyed the social activity of the
Red Hatters of Fulton County.
A celebration of the life of Victoria Bell “Vicky” Russell will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, at
the Legion Memorial Chapel at the Culver Academies. President William Tincher will officiate.
(The Chapel is on the north side of the Academy just off Indiana 10.) The Leiters Ford cemetery
is the site of interment. Friends may visit with the family at the Good Family Funeral Home on
Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. and at the chapel one hour prior to her services. Preferred memorials
in lieu of flowers may be made to the Aubbee Relay for Life Team.

Phyllis J. Black
HARRISON, Mich. — Phyllis J. Black, 90, of Harrison Mich., formerly of Nappanee, died
Sunday, April 6, 2008 at 9: 36 a.m. at Tender Care Nursing Home in Clare, Mich.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice (Dave) Cunningham of Nappanee; son, Thomas
(Darlene) Black of Elkhart; four grandchildren; and brother, Richard Callander of Scottsdale, Ariz.
Visitation is from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home,
Nappanee. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Union Center cemetery, Nappanee.
Memorials may be made to the Nappanee American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.

Phyllis Anita Short
ROCHESTER — Phyllis Anita Short, 71, of Rochester, died Sunday, April 6 at 7: 55 a.m. at the
St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
She is survived by two daughters: Angela (Paul) McIntosh and Jacqueline (Franklin) Gross, both
of Rochester; a son, Andrew Jackson Short II of Indianapolis; six grandchildren and a brother,
Paul (Barbara) Wideman of Mississippi.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 8 one hour before funeral services at 11 a.m. at the
Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester.
Burial will follow at Citizens cemetery.

Robert "Red" Griffith
HAMLET — Robert “Red” Griffith, 80, died Monday, April 7, 2008 in Columbus, Ind..
He is survived by his wife, Mindy; sons: Danny Griffith of Minot, N.D., Dennis Griffith of Garrison,
N.D., Fred Beerwart of Columbus, Ind. and Andrew Beerwart of Coralville, Iowa; daughters:
Susan Hardy of Knox and Holly Hebert of Louisiana; brother, Don Griffith of Hamlet; 10
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
There will be no funeral service. Visitation is Thursday, April 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. CDT at Rannells
Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel. Cremation will take place after visitation.

Linda K. Poff
KNOX — Linda K. Poff, 60, of Knox, died Monday, April 7 at Porter Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, David; children: Vicky (Scott) McNeece and Kyle Poff, all of
Knox; brothers: Ronnie Sischo of Knox, Donald Gene Sischo of Monterey and Leslie Sischo of
Michigan City; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A family memorial service will take place at a later date.
The M.C. Smith Funeral Home, Knox, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Marie V. (Pesak) Benner
Marie V. Benner (Pesak), 83, formerly of Rochester died on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at Miller’s
Merry Manor in Culver. Marie was a resident of Fulton, Marshall and Starke counties for more
than 50 years. Previously she resided in Chicago, Ill. Born to Andrew and Madga Kock in the
Czech Republic, she was the fourth of six children. On May 30, 1948 in Germany she was
married to Karl Pesak, who preceded her on May 23, 1977.
Survivors include seven loving and devoted children: Maria Mangun and husband Donald of
Milford, Robert Pesak and wife Kathy of Hermitage, Tenn.; Karl Pesak Jr. and wife Jenean of
Mishawaka, Tony Pesak and wife Deborah of Charleston, S.C.; Marcella Boener and husband
John of Plymouth; Milton Pesak and wife Kathryn of Rochester and Andrew Pesak of Chicago,
Ill. A surviving sister, Magda Vasak, resides in Ontario, Canada. Marie was blessed with
numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild who loved their
grandmother dearly.
Marie was a long-time member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of Rochester, and a 29-
year employee of Hart, Schaffner, Marx Corporation. Cooking, gardening, and exercise-walking
were among her favorite activities as well as contributing to various charitable organizations.
More than anything in her life, she loved her Lord, her children and her grandchildren.
Visitation and Graveside services will be held privately for family members with burial at the
I.O.O.F. cemetery of Rochester.

Helen L. Wajda
KNOX — Helen L. Wajda, 87, of Knox, died Tuesday, April 8.
She is survived by her husband, Bernard; children: Robert (Mary) Miller of Round Lake Beach,
Ill., Rose (Frank) Nellis of Owensville, Christine (Rick) Baker of Culver and Al (Joen) Wajda of
Knox; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation is Friday, April 11 from 4 to 8 p.m. with a rosary service at 4: 30 p.m. at the M.C. Smith
Funeral Home, Knox. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, April 12 at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas
Aquinas Catholic Church. Interment will be at Crown Hill cemetery.

Lowell "Rex" Moore
WARSAW — Lowell “Rex” Moore, 62, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at 1: 47 p.m..
He is survived by one sister, Gwendolyn Kelton, of Greenfield, Mass., and two brothers,
Lawrence “Larry” (Helen) Moore, of Columbia City, and Glen (Bernetta) Moore, of Bourbon, as
well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Tuesday, April 15, from 2 to 4 and 6- to 8 p.m. at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw.
Services are Wednesday, April 16, at 10: 30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Palestine cemetery, Palestine.
Memorials may be made to the 24 Hour Club c/o Titus Funeral Home, PO Box 705, Warsaw, IN
46581-0705.

Ida Carol Gordon Shafer
ROCHESTER — Ida Carol Gordon Shafer, 103, of Rochester, died at 4: 15 a.m. Wednesday,
April 9, 2008 at Wynnfield Crossing, Rochester.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty (Marvin) Rouch of Rochester; son, Arthur (Marilyn) Shafer
of Elkhart; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Friday, April 11 from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral Saturday at the
Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester. Funeral services are Saturday, April 12 at 10: 30 a.m. at
the funeral home. Burial will be at the Rochester IOOF cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hope Hospice of Fulton County or to the Walnut Church of the
Brethren Ladies Aid.

Samuel Edward Carlton
BURLINGTON — Rev. Samuel Edward Carlton, 87, died Thursday, April 10 at Garden Villa
Nursing Home in Bloomington, following an extended illness.
He was born in Macedonia, Ill., April 6, 1921 to Marshall and Ethel Gibbs Carlton. He graduated
from McLeansboro High School in 1940.
Carlton served as an airplane mechanic in the Air Force during World War II. When he returned
from the military he married his grade school sweetheart Martha Louise Miller.
He then attended Mckendree College in Lebanon Ill. and then Seminary at Christian Theological
Seminary in Indianapolis, graduating in 1955. As a First United Methodist minister he pastored at
churches in Bridgeport, Brazil, Plymouth, Elkhart, Rochester, Griffith and Lafayette, Ind.
He retired from full time ministry in 1986. After retirement he served as an associate minister for
churches in Dyer, Brownsburg, Pendleton, Fort Wayne and Farmland, Ind.
Carlton was also a member of the Brazil Rotary Club, member of the board of directors for the
Methodist Nursing Home in Frankfort, Council of Finance and Administration (CFA) as well as a
member of the trustees for the North Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Alberta Carlton and brother Robert Carlton.
He is survived by his wife Louise; children: Jim and Nedra Carlton, Jan and Doug Anderson,
Joan Zimmerman and Dennis Burch; grandchildren: Dianna Carlton, Jana Johnson, Melissa
Osner, Mark Anderson, Bradley Zimmerman, Meredith Anderson, Mathew Zimmerman, Molly
Chasteen; great-grandchildren: Nathanial and Zion Osner, Grant Johnson, Marah Osner, Elsa
Anderson, Silas Chasteen and a brother, Don Carlton as well as many friends parishioners and
extended family members.
Visitation will be at Lawson–Miller Chapel Tuesday, April 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. and again
Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time of services.
Funeral services will take place at the First United Methodist Church Wednesday at 10 a.m. with
Bishop Michael Coyner, Dr. Douglas T. Anderson and Pastor Tony Alstott officiating.
Burial will follow at Clearview cemetery.
