Robert E. Auguststine
BOURBON — Robert E. Augustine, 86, of 504 Lincoln St. Bourbon, passed away Saturday,
Feb. 23, 2008 in his home in the care of his family and Hospice.
He was born the son of Elvin Martin Augustine and Edythe Pauline Plant Augustine on Dec. 16,
1921 at Westville. He was a resident of the Bourbon area most of his life. He was married
on
Nov. 3, 1945 to Naomi June Sickmiller who survives.
Robert worked at R.R. Donnelly of Warsaw and retired in March of 1985. He also owned and
operated Augustine Home Service. He was a graduate of Bourbon High School class of 1940.
He was also a faithful member of the Bourbon First United Methodist Church. Robert served in
the United States Air Force serving four years in the South West Pacific during World War II; he
also served in the Thirteenth Air Force for two years.
He is survived by his wife Naomi and their three children: Edith Eileen (Robert) Baker of
Plainfield, James Robert Augustine of Bourbon and Celeste Ann (Bill) Reed of Denver, Ind.;
grandchildren: Michelle Renee Reynolds Casaz, Robyn Lynn Reynolds, Keller, Jenifer Nicole
Augustine, Miller and Adam James Augustine and great-grandchildren: Jessica Casaz, Abigail
Miller and Nathan Christopher Miller.
His brother Paul Augustine preceded him in death Sept. 20, 2005.
Funeral Services to celebrate Robert’s life will be Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. in the Bourbon
First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Day officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the Service.
Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill cemetery at Bourbon, with Graveside Military services by
the Bourbon American Legion.
Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon, is in charge of local arrangements.
Carole A. Lindsey
HAMLET — Carole A. Lindsey, 63, of Hamlet, died Saturday, Feb. 23 at home.
She is survived by companion, Jim Blevins of Hamlet; daughter, Mary Ann (Tom) O’Connor of
Koontz Lake; son, Scott (Pam) Lindsey of Missouri; and three grandchildren.
Visitation is Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. EST at the Nusbaum-Elkin
Funeral Home, Walkerton. Funeral services are Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Woodlawn cemetery.
Lily B. Sult
CULVER — Lily B. Sult, 89, formerly of Leiters Ford, died Saturday, Feb. 23 at 6: 53 a.m. at
Miller's Merry Manor, Culver.
She is survived by two daughters: Mary Ellon (Dave) Ryon of Dayton, Ohio and Joan B. (David)
Hodson of Peru, Ind.; one son: John (Amy) Sult of Culver; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church
with funeral services to follow at 11 a.m.
Burial will take place at Leiters Ford cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Hope Methodist Church.
Evelyn M. Eyrich
PLYMOUTH — Evelyn M. “Narby” Eyrich, 77, formerly of Bourbon, died of natural causes at
2: 40 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, in the Northern Lakes Nursing Home, Angola.
Born on June 29, 1930 in LaPaz, the daughter of Samuel Homer Oliver and Ethel Hester
Hildebrandt Thornburg, Evelyn graduated from West High School with the class of 1948.
On July 4, 1948, in Plymouth, she and Carl L. Eyrich were married
. Carl died in June of 1998.
She helped Carl run the farm: she collected and sold eggs and tended to the animals and helped
with the field work. She also worked at Orthopedic Equipment Company in Bourbon.
A lifetime member, Evelyn was very active in her church, the House of Prayer, especially in the
Women’s Ministry. She enjoyed fishing and making afghans. She was known across the county
for the noodles and angel food cakes that she made for the church.
She is survived by her son, Steve (Betsy) Eyrich of Angola, and by their son, Thomas Stephen
Eyrich, also of Angola.
A sister, Ruth (Dennis) Zent of Nappanee and a brother, James Thornburg of Donaldson,
survives as well, together with numerous nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, Eugene Thornburg and a daughter,
Christina Correll-Laughry.
The family invites friends to share memories with them on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, from 4 to 8
p.m. and after 7 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 29, 2008 at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N.
Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Evelyn will be held in the funeral home at noon on Friday, Feb. 29, 2008.
The Rev. Ron Humphrey, pastor of the House of Prayer, Plymouth, will officiate.
Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery, Bourbon.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
Steven M. Middaugh
ARGOS — Steven M. Middaugh, 47, of 17645 Hickory Rd., Argos, passed away Sunday, Feb.
24, 2008 in Goshen General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born the son of Raymond D. Middaugh and Alberta C. Snyder Middaugh on Aug. 20,
1960 at Rochester. He was a lifetime resident of the Argos area.
He was a farmer and had worked over the years for 151 Tire Systems, Agway Seed, Mallard RV
and Damon Corporation. Steven was a 1980 graduate of Argos High School, a member of the
Rural Youth, and was a faithful member of the Walnut Church of the Brethren.
Steven loved to collect International toy tractors and antique tractors.
Steven was married
on Sept. 22, 1984 to Sharon Cretcher who survives along with his three
children; Natasha and husband Nick Shafer of Plymouth, Nathanael Middaugh and Nanette
Middaugh, both of Argos. He also has two sisters: Jean Wallace of Milford and Carolyn and
husband Dewight Manns of Akron; two brothers: Charles and wife Rita Middaugh of Argos and
Carl and wife Jill Middaugh of Bourbon.
Steven was preceded in death by a brother, David and his parents.
Funeral services to celebrate Steven’s life will be held on Friday, Feb. 29 at 10: 30 a.m. in Walnut
Church of the Brethren with Pastor Robert Rice officiating.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home
at 115 S. Main St. Bourbon, and for one hour before services in the Church Friday.
Burial will follow in the Maple Grove cemetery at Argos.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Walnut Church of the Brethren
in his memory.

Marian Myers Munn
PLYMOUTH — Marian Munn, 78, a resident of Union Road, Plymouth, since 1957, died of
natural causes at her home, on Monday, Feb. 25, 2008.
Born in Plymouth on Oct. 24, 1929, Marian is the daughter of John Albert and Laura Arvivia
(Roberts) Myers. She graduated as Valedictorian of the 1947 class from Plymouth High School
On Sept. 22, 1957, in Plymouth, she and Stephen Wayne Munn were married
. Her husband died
on Jan. 28, 2001.
She was a ‘farmers wife’ as she would put it and helped maintain the family farm property often
pulling weeds, picking up road trash and pine cones.
An outgoing, friendly person, she loved to talk with her family and friends. She was always
cutting out articles about people and her grandchildren for the sake of scrapbooking and often
sent greeting cards and doing things for others.
One of her recent projects was establishing two scholarship funds in the Marshall County
Community Foundation for agricultural students at Plymouth and John Glenn high schools.
She was a longtime member of the Blissville Church of the Brethren.
Marian is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Laura Ann and James C. Vervynckt of
Plymouth and her eight children. They are: Nathan, Jessica, Jacob, Stacy, Todd, Gabriel, Lucas
and Audrey Vervynckt.
She is also survived by a sister-in-law Maxine Myers, Plymouth, and a brother-in-law, Evan Huff,
Bremen, and several nieces and nephews.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, A. Eldon Myers and two
sisters, Geraldine Ritchey and Lucille Huff.
Friends are invited to celebrate the life and share memories with her family from 5 to 8 p.m. on
Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, and after 7 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at the Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Marian will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, in the funeral home,
the Rev. Paul Nye will officiate.
Burial will be in New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.

Jack Loren Schlotterback
Jack Loren Schlotterback, 77, died on Feb. 25, 2008 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice House in
Fort Wayne. He was born in Fort Wayne on July 11, 1930 to Irvin Schlotterback and Lillian Helmke.
He was a boy scout, graduated from Central High School in 1948, joined the Navy Reserve in
1949 and also married
in 1949. He was employed as a serviceman by NIPSCO for 38 years, in
the cities of Fort Wayne, Syracuse, Goshen, Elkhart, and others before retiring in 1987.
Jack is survived by one sister, Rose Pemberton; one niece and two nephews. He had nine
children: Kristy Ohneck, Toni Smith-Wysong, Jerri Kaluza, Ben Schlotterback, Shelly Morr, Kevin
Maloney, Jeff & Greg Slough, and Mandy Miller. They gave him 28 grandchildren, 17 + great-grandchildren,
and one-great-great-grandchild.
Jack enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, boating, playing cards, fresh garden vegetables, raising
fruit trees, dancing and being with friends, summers in Wisconsin and Canada, winters in Florida
and large family gatherings for Thanksgiving and Christmas and autumn bonfires.
Viewing will take place on Saturday, March 1 at J. A. Brazzell-Renner Funeral Home in Ligonier,
from 2 to 4 p.m. with graveside service to follow at Ligonier cemetery.

Juanita A. Barger
Former Argos resident Juanita A. Barger, 78, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, in Miller’s Merry
Manor, Plymouth, following an extended illness.
Juanita was born the daughter of David and Mildred Wells Eaglen in West Virginia on Sept. 5, 1929.
She took Samuel R. Barger to be her husband in 1952. Together they owned and operated the
S&J Restaurant in Plymouth.
In 1976 they moved to South Bend where she opened a Licensed Home Daycare Center.
Juanita had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed shopping, her biggest pleasure, however
was her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter, Pam (Kirk) Thompson, Plymouth; a son, Steve (Terri) Barger,
Mishawaka; eight grandchildren: Shane (Dalana) Barger, Lakeville; Samantha Thompson,
Plymouth; Ryan Tucker, Noblesville; Cody Thompson, Muncie; Matt Tucker, California; Chris
Tucker, Bloomington; Chad Barger and Stacy Barger, both of Mishawaka; four great-grandchildren:
Shawna Thompson–York, Alexis, Arieze, and Ayva Barger; three sisters: Virginia,
Shirley, and Marlene; and a multitude of nieces and nephews survive as well.
Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a daughter, Donna (Barger) Tucker.
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

46563, or memorial contributions may be given to the American Lung Association.

Blanche H. Marton
Blanche H. Marton, 93, of Mount Dora, Fla., formerly of Culver, died Tuesday, Feb. 26.
She is survived by her husband, Antal Marton of Mount Dora, Fla.; sons: Brian (Barbara) Linhart
of Culver, Larry (Sherry) Linhart of Longboat Key, Fla. And Robert (Cindy) Marton of Mount
Dora, Fla.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Saturday, March 1 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Grace United Church of Christ, Culver.
Funeral services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at the church.
Burial will be at the Culver Masonic cemetery.

Byrdlee Barnett
MONTEREY — Byrdlee Barnett, 64, of Knox, died Wednesday, Feb. 27 at St. Marys Medical Center, Hobart.
She is survived by two daughters: Diana Barnett of Nappanee and Marie Graham of South
Bend; a son: Terry Barnett of Niles, Mich.; two brothers: Donald Shepherd of Smithville, Tenn.
and James Shepherd of Knox; a sister: Roberta Burden of Chicago, Ill.; seven grandchildren and
one great-grandchild.
Visitation took place from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 2 at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel, Knox.
Funeral services will take place on Monday, March 3 at 11 a.m. with burial to follow at Culver
Masonic cemetery, Culver.
Mary J. Knight
ROCHESTER — Mary J. Knight, 81, of Rochester, died at 3: 45 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27 at
Hickory Creek of Rochester.
She is survived by a daughter, Frances (Michael) Eltzroth of Wabash; son, Ernest (Sharon)
Knight Jr. of Athens; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bud (Mary)
Cunningham of Plymouth.
Funeral services are Friday, Feb. 29 at 11 a.m. in the Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester,
with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be at Citizens cemetery.
Reubin A. Rode
KNOX — Reubin A. Rode, 82, of Knox, died Wednesday, Feb. 27 at Starke Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by an adopted daughter, Sharon A. Clem of Culver; two sons: Kirk Rode of
Chicago, Ill. and Robert Rode of California; three daughters: Patricia (Berton) Willoughby of
Vernon, Ill., Melinda Bjoreen of Suprise, Ariz. and Jeanette Hrishok of Ottowa, Ill.; two brothers:
Adolph Rode of Anaheim, Cal. and Emil Rode of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Lorena Mildren of Cal.
seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation services.
Funeral services will be held at a later date. Braman & Son Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
