Mildred K. Couch Styers
PLYMOUTH — Mildred K. Couch Styers, 87, of Plymouth, formerly of Indianapolis, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008.
Survivors include her son, Stephen W. Styers of Plymouth; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren;
and one great-great grandchild.
Services will be Saturday, Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. in Moore & Kirk Funeral Home in Indianapolis with
visitation there on Friday, Feb. 22 from 5 to 8 p.m.
Interment will be in Washington Park East cemetery, Indianapolis.
Dennis Jachim
MONTEREY — Dennis Jachim, 63, of Monterey, died on Saturday, Feb. 16.
He is survived by his wife, Myra; four children: Raymond Jachim and Richard Jachim, both of
Monterey, Roman (Dawn) Jachim of Knox and Renee (Joe) Baker of Monterey; two
grandchildren; a brother, Gary Jachim of Tennesee; a sister, Sharon Kalish of Florida; and halfsisters:
Barbara Lasko of Illinois and Doris Boyer of Texas.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 19 from 2 to 8 p.m. (CT) at the M.C. Smith Funeral Home, Knox.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. (CT) at the funeral home.
The interment will be private.
Memorials may be made to the family.
James E. Miller
PLYMOUTH — James E. “Jim” Miller, 61, of 13332 6C Road, Plymouth, went to his eternal
home at 12: 50pm on Saturday, February 16, 2008. He passed peacefully with his wife and daughter at his side.
Jim was known for his great love of his family and all people. He had a servant’s heart and gave
of himself to those in need.
Born on March 20, 1946, in Canyon, Texas, Jim was the son of Earl E. and Beulah Weaver Miller.
He spent his childhood in Texas and attended schools in the Canyon area. As a young man, he
worked as a farmhand and helped his dad.
He and Eleanor Ann Rost were married
on Dec. 23, 1967, in Bacton Chapel in Malvern, Pa.
Jim joined the United States Army in 1963. He was stationed in South Korea, Germany, Vietnam
and Edgemont, Pa. He also served at Fort Sill, Okla. And Fort Knox, Ky. He retired from active
duty in 1983 after 20 years of service. During the Vietnam War, he was awarded a Purple Heart
for injuries he sustained and a Bronze Star for heroism in ground combat.
After retiring, he moved his family to Plymouth. There he worked for five years as a Field
Representative/Training instructor for AM General in South Bend teaching in Algeria, Egypt and Morocco.
Knowing his family needed him, he then worked stateside at Challenger Wrecker Co., Elkhart as
a warranty manager and sales. He later worked as a hydraulic mechanic, roadside service, and
delivery for DUECO, Bourbon.
Jim loved fishing, reading and wood carving. He had a love for adventure and travel. This led to
serving the Lord on short term mission trips. He served with the Calvary Evangelistic Mission in
San Juan, Puerto Rico and at Lakota Chapel, White River, S.D., and with his church to Mateete,
Uganda. Jim and his wife also traveled to Israel in 2004.
He was a member of the Crossroads Evangelical Free Church, Plymouth. He looked forward to
attending the Friday noon Men’s Bible Study group at Martin’s in Plymouth.
The final chapter of Jim’s life was spent in prayer for his family. Daily, he went before the Lord
on their behalf. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor, his three children, his 11 grandsons and his
one granddaughter.
They are: Jennifer and Drew Peterson and their children, John, Joshua, Noah and Benjamin of
Coats, N.C.; James Miller and Wendi Ewing Miller and their children, Rose, Jimmy and Evan of
Plymouth; and Dawn and Mark Howland and children, Jerod, Daron, William, Robert and Nathan of Tyner.
Several siblings also survive his death. They are: Neva (Bill) Watson, Montgomery, Texas: Lois
McDonald, Conroe, Texas: Delores (Wylie) Hannah, Tulia, Texas: Sharon (Archie) Scott,
Levelland, Texas: Debbie (Gene) Cleveland, Amarillo, Texas and Kevin (Terri) Miller, Fritch,
Texas. His sister-in-law Lorena Miller of Austin, Texas survives.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Carl R. Miller.
Friends are invited to share memories and celebrate the life of Jim with his family on
Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1110 N.
Michigan St., Plymouth. There will be one hour of calling prior to services Thursday at the Church.
Funeral services for Jim will be held on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Crossroads
Evangelical Free Church, 1650 N. Oak Rd., Plymouth. The Rev. Bill Walder will officiate.
Burial will be in the Swedish cemetery, Donaldson.
Instead of flowers memorial gifts in Jim’s name may be given to the Lakota Chapel, Crossroads
EFC, or the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.
Betty Lee Schultz
HAMLET — Betty Lee Schultz, 79, of Hamlet, formerly of North Liberty, died Sunday, Feb. 17 at
home following an illness. She was born Dec. 15, 1928 in South Bend to William and Anna
(Byski) Martin. On Oct. 15, 1955 in Michigan City, she married
John Schultz Jr., who survives.
A homemaker, she enjoyed country living and traveling. She especially loved her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband; three daughters: Linda (Randy) Heidrich of North Liberty, Janet
(Dennis) Reese of Plymouth and Carol Schultz of Plymouth; one son, Brian Schultz of Hamlet;
four grandsons: David Schultz, Kyle Reese, Bryant Reese and Martin Schultz; one sister, Alice
Trubey of South Bend; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Private family visitation and services will be held Thursday, Feb. 21 at the Essling Funeral Home
in LaPorte with Pastor Vicky Blough officiating.
Burial will be at Patton cemetery.

Diana Dee Wiles
PLYMOUTH — Diana Dee Wiles was born in Plymouth on July 29, 1945, the daughter of Adam
Robert and Mildred Eva Snider Thompson. She passed away at home after a lengthy battle with
cancer on Feb. 18 at 2: 58 a.m.
She was a 1963 graduate of Plymouth High School. She attended Ball State University. She
graduated with a certificate from Famous Artists School in Connecticut.
Diana was married
to Earl C. Wiles in 1964. She is survived by a daughter Sue and her husband
Ron Goote; her mother, Mildred Eva Snider Thompson (Fremont) Books. Also surviving are one
brother Jerry (Nina) Thompson of Tucson, Ariz. And one sister Ellen (Ron) Baney of Lakeville.
Four granchildren: Tiffany Buchanan, Michael Buchanan, Tiana Hlawacz and Alyxandra
Hlawacz. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl.
She enjoyed farming with Earl. They raised beef cattle, rabbits and horses. They owned Twin
Lakes Saddle Repair Shop. They were involved with 4-H horse, pony and rabbit clubs. Dee was
very active in local rabbit clubs and always willing to help newcomers learn more about raising
and showing rabbits. Together they were members of the American Rabbit Breeders Assn,
National Rex Club, Indiana State Rex RBA, Sycamore Satin RBA. She was the SecretaryTreasurer
for the Indiana State Rex RBA for many years.
Dee was a very bright woman with many talents. She was an accomplished pianist/organist and
greatly enjoyed playing and sharing her musical talents. She was an accomplished artist working
in all mediums, from canvas to wood. She designed jewelry and crafts, lapidary and wood
carving. She received recognition for her art and jewelry through many displays at local libraries
and craft shows. They sold stone jewelry and crafts at the Culver Farmer’s Market.
Memorial services for Dee will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, in the Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. Friends are invited to visit with the
Family from 1 p.m. until the time of the services.
Ruth N. Zechiel
Ruth N. Zechiel, 83, of Madison Township, died at 5: 40 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 18, 2008 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Wakarusa.
She is survived by a daughter, Kay (Bob) Harrell of Maineville, Ohio; sons: Lee (Susan) Zechiel
of Gurnee, Ill. And Rev. Tim (Marie) Zechiel of Steeleville, Ill.; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren;
sister, Evelyn (Hanley) Barker of Eugene, Ore.; and sister-in-law, Lois Kline of Mill Valley, Calif.
Services will be held Friday, Feb. 22 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Woodland.
Visitation is Thursday, Feb. 21, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mishler Funeral Home in
Bremen, and one hour before the service at the church.
Burial will be at St. Paul cemetery in Woodland.

James "Zook" Branden
DONALDSON — James “Zook” Branden, 72, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008 in his home.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; daughter, Debra McCoige of Koontz Lake; sons: Bill (Theresa)
McCoige of Dunedin, Fla., Bob (Sandy) McCoige and Steve (Connie) McCoige, all of Walkerton,
Jody McCoige and John Branden, both of Donaldson and Jim (Amanda) Branden of Plymouth;
11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 22 at 11 a.m. CST at the Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet
Chapel. Visitation is Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. CT at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Grovertown cemetery.

Jeremiah D. Brewer
ROCHESTER — Jeremiah D. Brewer, 26, died Feb. 19 in North Judson.
He is survived by his mother, Sherry Wireman of Rochester; father, Ernest (Laura) Brewer of
Knox; daughter, Courtney Brewer of Indiana; sister, Tonya Brewer of Knox; and grandparents:
Sescoe Wireman of North Judson and Irene Brewer of Knox.
Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. CST at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet
Chapel. Visitation is Monday after 11 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Oak Park cemetery, Knox.
Shirley M. Fasel
PLYMOUTH — Shirley M. Fasel, 80, of Plymouth, formerly of Merrillville, died Tuesday, Feb. 19 at home.
She is survived by her husband, George R. Fasel of Plymouth; daughters: Diane (Bill Stockton)
Fasel of Fresno, Calif. And Debbie Bercik of Plymouth; son, David (Michelle) Fasel of Hanna;
four grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Strbac of Florida.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Indiana Masonic Home.

Judith Ewing
OAK GROVE — Judith “Judy” Ewing, 67, of Oak Grove, died Wednesday, Feb. 20 in her home.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald “Jerry” Ewing; daughters: Carla (Pete) Thomas of Knox
and Darla (Ken) Bajdek of Plymouth; one granddaughter; and four brothers: Joe Romenzak Jr.
of Oak Grove, John Romenzak, Stanley Romenzak and Charles Romenzak, all of Knox.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. CST at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet
Chapel. Visitation is Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 4 to 8 p.m. CST and Wednesday after 10 a.m. until
the time of services at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Eagle Creek cemetery, Knox. Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of choice.
John Swihart
ARGOS — John Swihart, 89, of Argos, died Wednesday, Feb. 20 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Culver
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Swihart of Argos; and daughter, Sharon Swihart of Amherst, Mass.
There will be no visitation or services.

Jeffrey R. Cox
PLYMOUTH – Jeffrey R. Cox, 13616 6 C. Rd., died in Saint Joseph Medical Center, Fort
Wayne, at 3: 22 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, due to injuries received in a work-related accident.
Jeff had worked as a lineman for NIPSCO for 30 years.
One of his main objectives in life was making the world smile.
Born in South Bend on Nov. 1, 1959, the son of James R. and Anna Lucille Clark Cox, Jeff
graduated from Bremen High School with the class of 1978.
In high school he was the Sectional Champion in tennis.
On April 19, 1980, Jeff and Patti McGowan were married
in Lakeville.
An active and much talented man, Jeff loved hunting, cooking and flying model airplanes. He
enjoyed blues music and ballroom dancing. He liked to travel with his family.
He was a lifetime member of the NRA and a member of Quail Unlimited and the American Legion Post 27.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Patti, and by their son, Christopher and daughter-in-law, Jessica Cox
of Charlotte, N.C.
His parents in Bremen also survive together with a brother, Jerry (Cindy) Cox, a sister, Joetta
(Greg) Balsley, all of Plymouth, and several nieces and nephews.
Jeff is survived by his mother-in-law Jean McGowan, a sister-in-law, Suzanne (David) Adams,
Lakeville, and a brother-in-law, Dr. Jack (Rose) McGowan, Montgomery, Texas, survives as well.
Jeff was preceded in death by his beloved pet, a German shorthaired pointer, named Bear.
Friends are invited by the family to share their memories and their love on Wednesday, Feb. 27,
2008, from 2 to 8 p.m., and continued after 7 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at the Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Jeff will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, with calling one
hour prior to services in the Plymouth Wesleyan Church, 11203 S. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Burial will take place at a later date in the Bremen cemetery.
Memorial gifts in Jeff’s name may be made to the National Rifle Association.
Herman C. Faulkner
ARGOS – Herman C. Faulkner, 93, a resident of Argos for 43 years and formerly from Ohio,
passed away at his home while under Hospice care. He had been in failing health for two years.
He was born in Urbana, Ohio, the son of Lloyd and Gladys Faulkner. He married
Mildred
(Kesler) Sherer in Argos on December 3, 1965. He enjoyed his family, horses, fishing,
woodworking, dancing, Big Band music, cards, bowling, and previously was a member on the
Argos Town Board.
Herman is survived by his five step-children, Jerry Sherer and wife, Shirley, of Indianapolis,
Margie (Sherer) Buschman and husband, Dennis, of Reynolds, Becky (Sherer) Hossler and
husband, Fred, of Wisconsin, formerly of Warsaw, Jo Ann (Sherer) Alexander and husband,
Doug, of Dyer and Devon Sherer and wife, Carmelita, of Cicero. He is also survived by 17
grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and by two sisters, both from Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother and two grandsons.
Friends are invited to visit with Herman’s family and share memories of his life on Monday, Feb.
25, from 5 to 8 p.m., and on Tuesday, Feb. 26, after 7 a.m., at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral
Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Herman will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home. The Rev.
Robert J. Vale of the Argos United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery, Argos.
