Pearl E. Wolff
WALKERTON — Pearl E. Wolff, age 96, of 20016 West 4B Road Walkerton, passed away at 5 p.m.
Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at Miller's Merry Manor in Plymouth.
Pearl was born Nov. 25, 1913, in Walkerton, to John A. and Ida I. (Cover) Gardner. Pearl and
Raymond A. Wolff were united in marriage Dec. 22, 1934. He preceded Pearl in death July 18, 1978.
Pearl was a lifetime resident of the Marshall County area. She was a member of the Tyner
United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the Women's Church Group. She also enjoyed
teaching Sunday School in her church. Her greatest joy was being a homemaker, mother, and
caring for her family. Her grandchildren were very special to her and she loved them very much.
Pearl is survived by her daughter, Janet (Daniel) Smith of Walkerton; her sons, John
(Rosemary) Wolff of Walkerton and James (Connie) Wolff of Walkerton.
Pearl is also survived by five grandsons; one granddaughter; five great-grandsons; two great granddaughters;
and several nieces and nephews.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Wolff; her sisters, Myrtle E. Walter and
Flossie Fitzgerald; and her grandson, John.

Walter N. Rhodes
WALKERTON — Walter N. Rhodes, 61, of Walkerton, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009 in his residence.
He is survived by his girlfriend, Cheryl Burns of Walkerton; a son, Walter Brooks Rhodes of
Anderson; a daughter, Lucinda Doolittle of South Bend; and four grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. Jan. 9 at Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home, 408
Roosevelt Road, Walkerton, with family visitation two hours prior to the service. Ash burial will
follow at Woodlawn cemetery.
Charles Eugene "Pop" Stacy
KNOX — Charles Eugene “Pop” Stacy, 82, of Knox, died Wednesday, Dec. 23 in Argos.
He is survived by his sons, Larry (Penny) Stacy of Argos, Gary Stacy of Knox; daughter Renee
(Rick) Scarborough of Knox; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mammie
Barnett of Pllymouth.
Visitation is at 11 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel.
Services are at 3 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Little officiating.
Burial will be at Crown Hill cemetery.
Nina Alice Howatt
ROCHESTER — Nina Alice Howat, 68, of Rochester, died at 1:08 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009
at St. Vincent's Hospital, Indianapolis.
She is survived by her husband Terry Howat Sr.; and children: Michael Howard of Rochester,
Mark Howard of Rochester, Aaron Wayne Howat, Terry Fred Howat and Anita Marie Howat.
Private family services were held at the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester.
Robert H. Albert
LAPAZ - Robert H. Albert, 79, died of natural causes at his residence, 518 S. Michigan St.,
LaPaz, at 8 a.m. Friday, Dec. 25, 2009.
Born on Christmas Day, 79 years ago in LaPaz, he was the son of Foster and Elaine Pratt
Albert. Robert graduated from LaPaz High School in the class of 1948.
He and his wife, Shirley Crum, were high school sweethearts and were married
Aug. 21, 1948, in
LaPaz. Bob, a farmer, was also a member of the Indiana National Guard.
A lifelong Marshall County resident, Robert was the owner and operator of several successful
businesses: the Albert Bowling Lanes, the Albert Texaco and Sinclair Stations, and the Alibi
Restaurant.
He was also a Union-North school bus driver for more than 35 years and a volunteer fire fighter
for the LaPaz Fire Department and a member of the Building Corporation of the LaVille
Elementary School in 1982. A regular and strong supporter of LaVille Athletics, his enthusiasm
and loyalty will be greatly missed.
Bob enjoyed old cars and he collected antique tractors. A natural carpenter and mechanic, he
was great with his hands.
An excellent bowler, he traveled around the county bowling in competitions. He enjoyed going to
auctions and playing poker with his friends.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; a son, David (Susan) Albert; and a daughter,
Deborah (Robert) Konopinski, all of LaPaz. Four grandchildren survive as well: Kane Shuppert,
Plymouth; and two grandsons, John and Jacob Albert LaPaz; and Ruth Albert, a granddaughter,
LaPaz.
Three great-grandchildren also survive. They are Olive Laurence, a great granddaughter; and
Kaneda and Quinn Shuppert, great grandsons. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and
Dale Albert, a brother.
Friends are invited to visit with and share memories of Bob with is family from 4 to 8 p.m.
Monday, Dec. 28 at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Bob will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29 in the funeral home. The Rev.
Steve Cox, pastor will officiate.
Interment will be in the Mausoleum of the Bremen cemetery, Bremen.

William R. Cook
FORT WAYNE — William R. Cook, 91, of Fort Wayne, died Dec. 25, 2009 at Woodview Health
Care Center.
He is survived by his wife Vida; daughters, Mary Ann (Rodger) Funk of Angola; son, Edwin J.
(Joyce) Cook of Monticello; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral
Home, 6131 St. Joe. Road, Fort Wayne.
Funeral services will take place at noon Wednesday at the funeral home.
Entombment will follow at Covington Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the A Hope Center or Woodburn Christian Children’s Home.
Phyllis Ann Faulkner
BOURBON — Phyllis Ann Faulkner, 80, of Bourbon passed away on Friday, Dec, 25, 2009 at
4:44 a.m. in her home surrounded by her family after a brief battle with Pancreatic Cancer.
Phyllis was born the daughter of Ernest Edward Neidig and Mabel Marie Craig Neidig on July 28,
1929 at Bourbon.
She had been a resident of the Bourbon area all her life. She married
Max Robert Faulkner on
June 2, 1949, he survives.
Phyllis retired from the Triton School Corporation after fifteen years, she was a first grade
teacher and retired in 2001. She was a graduate of Bourbon High School, Valedictorian of the
Class of 1947. She continued her education at Indiana University where she received her BS
Degree and MS Degrees in Elementary Education. She even earned an Eli Lilly Grant to study
education in Belize in 1996. She was a faithful member of the Bourbon United Pentecostal
Church where she also touched many young lives. Phyllis enjoyed Gardening, bird watching,
sewing, knitting sand reading in her spare time.
She is survived by her husband, Max and their six children: Teresa Ann and husband Mokhles
Sedra of Cairo, Egypt, Eric Robert and wife Pamela Faulkner of Indianapolis, Nathan Max
Faulkner of Bourbon, Seth David and wife Kathi Faulkner of Bourbon, Kirby Todd Faulkner of
Evansville and Christopher Faulkner of Atwood. She also has ten grandchildren and two great
grandchildren.
Other family includes her Sister; Ruth and husband Bill Gombos of Livingston, Va.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn Maxine Faulkner, a granddaughter, Carissa J
Faulkner/Bruner, her sisters and brothers; Roma Dinius, Marjorie Cook, William Neidig, Joe
Neidig, Gene Springer and Jim Neidig.
A celebration of Phyllis’s life will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30 in the Bourbon United
Pentecostal Church with Pastor Mark Cottrill officiating.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Bourbon United Pentecostal
Church.
Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill cemetery at Bourbon.
The family would welcome memorial contributions to United Pentecostal Church in her memory.
Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
Betty Ruth Montgomery
CULVER — Betty Ruth Montgomery, 64, of Culver passed away on Dec. 25, 2009 at her home.
Betty was born on June 25, 1946 in Blue Field, WV to Quintin and Rose (Hendricks) Armstrong.
In 1983 she married
LB Montgomery. He survives.
While in Culver Betty was an active member of VFW 6919 Ladies Auxiliary, and she was famous
for her Corner Tavern chicken recipe. She was an active contributor to Cub Scout pack 290.
Betty loved to cook and to watch over her grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons: Chuck (Ruth) and Joe (Nicki) Dilts of Culver; daughter: Kimberly
(Mike Zentz) Dilts of Argos; stepchildren: Anthony, Christina and April, living in Kentucky; brother
John Armstrong of Monmouth, Ill.; and 17 grandchildren, as well as many more that she called
her children and grandchildren, and her many friends, who will all miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents and Brother Claude Armstrong.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Jan. 16 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Culver VFW Post
#6919. Memorial contributions can be made to the VFW National Children’s Home or Culver EMS
Volunteers.
Howard W. Reed
NORTH JUDSON — Howard W. Reed, Jr., 32, of North Judson, died at Starke Memorial Hospital Friday, Dec. 25.
He is survived by his parents: Debra (Howard) Reed of North Judon, fiancee Kimberly Manns of North Judson, daughter Samantha Reed of Culver, and several aunts and uncles.
Visitation is Tuesday, Dec. 29 from 4 p.m. until the time of services at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel.
Services are at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Jeff Little officiating.
Midwest Cremation Center will handle burial.
James R. "Smiley" Guyse
WARSAW — James R. "Smiley" Guyse, 54, of Warsaw, died at 3:07 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 26,
2009 at his residence.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Guyse; son, Tyler Hartel of Michigan; step-son, Justin
Donovan of Warsaw; step-daughters, Jodi Reynolds and Nicole Duttin, both of Warsaw; sisters:
Linda (Bill) Unruh of North Judson; Roberta (Sam) Barnett of Walkerton, Chris Koehn of
Plymouth, Judy Ouellett of Walkerton, and Donna Guyse of Plymouth; and many grandchildren,
nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30 at McHatton-Sadler
Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31 at the funeral chapel. Burial will
follow art Oakwood cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
Raymond E. Kline
CULVER — Raymond E. Kline, 92, of Culver, and Fort Pierce, Fla., passed away Dec. 26,
2009, at Clarkston Specialty Healthcare, Clarkston, Mich., where he had been a patient for the
last month.
Raymond was born Dec. 3, 1917, in Culver, to Edgar and Nellie Kline. He graduated from Culver
High School and attended Moody Bible Institute.
On March 24, 1940, he married
Daralys J. Leland in Culver.
Raymond opened Kline’s TV and Appliance store on June 18, 1952, and was in business for
approximately 40 years. Ray belonged to the Gideons, providing him exciting opportunities to
distribute Bibles in numerous countries, including some “iron-curtain” countries.
He was an active member of the Grace Baptist Church in Plymouth, for many years and later
attended Antioch Baptist Church in Rochester.
Ray and Daralys enjoyed traveling all over the world together, their journeys taking them to more
than 60 countries. For the last five years, Ray shared his time with son Tim and family in Indiana
and daughter Carol and family in Michigan.
Raymond is survived by son: Tim (Cindy) Kline of Peru; daughter: Carol (Steven) Holtzclaw of
Oxford, Mich.; daughter-in-law: Christine Kline of Indianapolis; grandchildren: Matthew Kline,
Camille Brugh, Amber Terry, Arielle Adenew, Avin Kline, Kris Holtzclaw, Kristen Brody; and great
grandchildren: Steven, Erik and Audrey Brody and Elizabeth and Jacob Holtzclaw.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Daralys; son, Paul Kline; and sister, Josephine Powell.
Visitation with the family will take place at Odom Funeral Home, Culver, Wednesday, Dec. 30,
from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., with funeral at 2 p.m.
Graveside service to follow for the family at Washington cemetery, Culver.
