Barbara Carol Wilkinson Winegardner
CULVER — Barbara Carol Wilkinson Winegardner, 54, of Culver, formerly of Logansport, died
at 9:52 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2009 at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend.
She is survived by a daughter, Valerie (Joe) Brown of Russiaville; a sister, Patricia Ann
Wilkinson of Culver; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, Nov, 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Kroeger Funeral Home, 711 E.
Market St., Logansport.
Funeral services will take place Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt.
Hope cemetery, Logansport.
Doris M. Hillman
Doris M. Hillman, 86, 1729 Wabash Ave., Rochester, and formerly of Battle Creek, Mich.,
passed away at 5:15 a.m. Saturday at her residence.
She was born Aug. 16, 1923, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Harold and Clara (Gruber)
Weeks. After high school, she studied art at the University of Michigan. On July 7, 1942, at Lake
Orion, Mich., she married
Lyle L. Hillman. He preceded her in death Feb. 17, 2009. They moved
to Battle Creek, Mich., in 1962 and resided there until 2008, when they settled in at Wynnfield
Crossing, Rochester.
Mrs. Hillman was a member of the Westlake Presbyterian Church, Battle Creek, Mich., Ladies of
the Lake Quilters and the Cal-Co Quilters Guild. She was a fabric artist who enjoyed creating
hand-pieced quilts and gathering her quilting friends. She was an accomplished needlewoman,
creating hand-embroidered samples and decorative objects. She had retired from the Kellog Co.
after 23 years of service, and enjoyed birthday club and golf league in her younger days. Mrs.
Hillman loved traveling with her daughters and enjoyed trips to the West Coast, New Orleans,
the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.
Survivors include her daughters, Charis and husband Ron Conrad, Salem, Ore., and Lynn and
husband Don Groenleer, Rochester; her son, Roy and wife Brenda Hillman, Battle Creek, Mich.;
and five grandchildren, Loriel and husband Gerry Donaghy, Portland, Ore., Christopher Hillman
and Jamie Hillman, both of Battle Creek, Mich., Nicholas and wife Kae Groenleer, Grand Rapids,
Mich., and Chloe Conrad, Salem, Ore.
The family expresses their gratefulness for the loving staff at Wynnfield Crossing and the tender
touch provided by Hope Hospice. God is good.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date at Westlake Presbyterian Church, Battle Creek, Mich.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice of Fulton County or the Westlake

Kenyon "Ken" Keith Jones
Kenyon "Ken" Keith Jones, 66, of 7241 S. 875 West, Claypool, died Saturday at 1:57 a.m. at
Lutheran Hospital Coronary ICU Fort
Wayne after suffering a massive heart attack Thursday. He died surrounded by his loving family.
Ken was born Nov. 28, 1942, in Mentone to Mervin and Bernice Sine Jones. He graduated from
Mentone High School in 1960. On June 23, 1962, he married
Linda L. Blackburn; she survives.
He was a lifetime grain and livestock farmer. He loved to hunt and fish and loved to watch sports
on TV. Ken was a loving husband, father and grandfather that will be greatly missed.
Ken is survived by his wife, Linda L. Jones, Claypool; six children, Melanie and husband Carl
Rosander, Cassopolis, Mich., Sharon and husband Dan Roberts, Claypool, Audra and husband
Jim Rhodes, Plymouth, Mervin and wife April Jones, Mentone, Keith and wife Nicole Jones,
Akron, and Valinda Jones Warsaw; 10 grandchildren, Ryan and Kendra Roberts, Chelsea,
Brittany and Grant Rhodes, Chase, Wade and Reed Jones, and Gretchen Jones and Jostyn
Jones; four step grandchildren, Caleb and Devin Bandow (Jones); Tifanie Lacefield (Rosander)
and April Doll (Rhodes).
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation for Ken will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at King Memorial Home, 101 North
Tucker St. Mentone. Following Ken's wishes there will be a private family burial in the Mentone cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Mentone Youth League or the Mentone EMS.
Donnabelle Miller
BOURBON — Donnabelle Miller, 86, of Bourbon, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009 at 11:20 p.m. in Miller s Merry Manor Nursing Home.
She is survived by her two sons: Bruce David Miller of Bourbon and Terry Eugene (Lynn) Y. Miller of Warsaw; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27 at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St. Bourbon.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28 at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Sandridge cemetery, Bourbon.
Elsie Etta Rush
ROCHESTER — Elsie Etta Rush, 83, of Rochester, died at 8:10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009 at Hickory Creek, Rochester.
She is survived by daughters: Lucinda (Roy) Rudd of Rochester and Carla (Dennis) Ringle of Ocklawaha, Fla.; a sister, Gertie Townsend of Twelve Mile; and a brother, Leonard Musselman of Twelve Mile.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25 at the Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester.
Funeral services will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Rochester IOOF cemetery, Rochester.
Donald E. Stump
NAPPANEE — Donald E. Stump, 86, of Nappanee, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009 at 11:45 p.m. at
Goshen General Hospital after a short illness.
He is survived by sons: Rodney (Maribeth) Stump, Mark (Ronda) Stump and Clark (Kay) Stump,
all of Nappanee; a daughter, Judith (John) Klotz of Nappanee; seven grandchildren; two step
grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale (Glenice) Stump of Milford and
companion Betty Searfoss of Nappanee.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24 and one hour prior to services
Wednesday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, 950 N. Main St., Nappanee.
Funeral services will take place Wednesday, Nov. 25 at noon at the First Brethren Church,
Nappanee.
Burial will follow at South Union cemetery, Nappanee.

Violet Jane “Duke” Reader Wimmer
NEW PARIS — Violet Jane “Duke” Reader Wimmer, of New Paris, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009
at 2:15 p.m. at the home of her daughter, after a four-year battle with cancer.
She is survived by her children: Ada (Lyle) Miller of Nappanee, Thomas (Sandy) Wimmer of
Argos, Mark (Najwa) Wimmer of Syracuse, Teresa (Tom Cline) Wimmer of Rhinelander, Wis.,
Greta (Tim) Burtsfield of Millersburg, Debbie (Dan) Ostrander of Goshen and Daniel Wimmer of
New Paris; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, 1911
S. Main St., Goshen and Saturday, Nov. 28 at Hildebrand-Darton-Russ Funeral Home, Rhinelander, Wis.

Emily Sue Henderson
ARGOS — Emily Sue Henderson, 66, of Argos, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009 at 12:02 p.m. at her
residence following a year-long illness.
She was born Oct. 6, 1943 in Saginaw, Ala. to James Edward Smith and Mae Alizria (Hamrick)
Smith. She had lived in the Argos Community for 24 years.
She married
George (Tiny) William Henderson in 1972 in Jemison, Ala. He preceded her in
death July 5, 1988.
She worked at BPC Manufacturing in Plymouth, for 20 years where she was on the Safety
Controls Committee. She was a member of the American Sewers Association.
Emily is survived by daughters: Susan (Edward) Ryan of Argos and Pamela (Victor) Rundburg of
Argos; sons: Rick (Michelle) McCall of Nappanee, Robert Henderson of Hoover, Ala., and Daniel
(Heidi) Henderson of Plymouth; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sisters: Betty
Fonderon of Fla., Peggy Clark of Jemison, Ala., Bernice (Wayne) Melton of Clayton, Ala. and
Wanda (Arnold) Mills of Columbiana, Ala.; and brothers: James Edward (Dale) Smith Jr. of Gulf
Shores, Ala., Kenneth (Brenda) Lane Smith of Jemison, Ala., Glenn (Sandra) Alan Smith of
Jemison, Ala., and Jerry Vance Smith of Columbiana, Ala.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Garland L. Smith; and mother-in-law,
Geneva Henderson.
Cremation has taken place with burial at a later date.

ROCHESTER — Jan Carter Strem, 49, of Rochester, died at 11:37 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2009.
He is survived by his wife Leslie; sons: Jaron Strem of Indianapolis and Logan Strem of Rochester; mother, Pauline Strem of Crookston, Minn.; brothers: Todd (Julie) Strem of Crookston, Minn. and Cory Strem of Deluth, Minn.; and uncle and aunt, Eldon and Lavonne Jallo of Fertile, Minn.
Visitation will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27 at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester. Funeral services will take place at 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Dean R., Jr. Marks
BREMEN — Dean R. Marks Jr., 60, of Bremen, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009 at 9:34 p.m. at Community Hospital of Bremen.
He is survived by his wife Donna; son, Brian Marks of Bremen; daughter, Shelly Daugherty of South Bend; two granddaughters; a brother, Richard (Carol) Marks of Bremen; and a sister, April Wesley of Elkhart.
Visitation took place Friday, Nov. 27 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 S.R. 331, Bremen.
Funeral services will take place Saturday, Nov. 28 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow.
Calvin J. Shumaker
BREMEN — Calvin J. Shumaker, 82, of Bremen, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009 at Miller's Merry
Manor, Wakarusa.
He is survived by his wife Charlotte; daughter, Janice (Dave) Rexstrew of Bremen; son, Jack
(Cindie) Shumaker of Grand Island, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters:
Vonna Miller of Michigan, Lavera (Don) Ames of Plymouth and Diana Hundt of Bremen.
Visitation will take place Monday, Nov. 30 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Mishler Funeral Home,
2030 S.R. 331, Bremen.
Funeral services will take place Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor
Tom Hostetler officiating.
Burial will follow at Bremen cemetery.

Earl M. Leonhard
SOUTH BEND — Earl M. Leonhard, 87, residing in South Bend, passed away peacefully
Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 25, 2009 in his home, surrounded by his loving wife and family.
He was born May 7, 1922 in Plymouth, the son of Earl E. and Mildred (Myers) Leonhard.
On March 19, 1944 in the First United Brethren Church, South Bend, Earl was united in marriage
to Ruth L. Wilson. He is survived by his loving wife Ruth of 65 years. Also surviving are two
daughters: Jessica Leonhard of South Bend, and Jennifer (Don) Pamachena of Brownsburg,
Ind.; six grandchildren: Trevor Toll, Whitney Toll, Landon Toll, Nathan Coddens, Andrew
Leonhard, and Edward Leonhard; two step-grandchildren: Aubrey (Isaiah) Helms, and Gregory
Pamachena; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, John A. Leonhard in 1996, and a brother, John J. Leonhard.
He attended the University of Notre Dame for two years, and proudly served his country in the
United States Army-Air Force as a pilot, flying the B-24 Bomber in 52 missions during WWII.
Mr. Leonhard was owner and operator of Leonhard Vending & Leonhard Distributing Companies
for 47 years, retiring in 1983. From 1955 to 1975, he was Agency Manager of 1st United Life
Company.
He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Free Church, and former member and president of
People’s Church in downtown South Bend.
The family received friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27 at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718
S. Michigan St., South Bend. Rev. Paul Nye and Rev. John McFarland will officiate.
Graveside services and military honors will follow at Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
