ETNA GREEN — Mary A. Miller, 90, of Etna Green, died at 6:56 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009 at
the LuAnn Nursing Home, Etna Green.
She is survived by sons: Earl J. (Jodie) Miller of Columbus, Ohio and Ray W. (Judy) Miller of
Nappanee and three granddaughters.
Visitation is Friday, Aug. 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Thompson-Lengacher &
Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Services are Saturday, Aug. 29 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the Leesburg cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Tabor Church of God or the donor's choice.

Jerry L. Shaffer
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jerry L. Shaffer, 51, of Kansas City, Mo., passed away unexpectedly
Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009 at St. Lukes Northland Hospital. Jerry was born on March 2, 1958 in
Rochester, the son of Dee and Aletha (Sanders) Shaffer. He was preceded in death by his father.
He was a graduate of Argos High School in Argos, and of Purdue University. Jerry was
employed as a Senior Business Analyst at E-Software Professionals, based out of Portland, Ore.
He was united in marriage to Sharon (Wallace) in 1977. He was an active member in Boy
Scouts of America. Jerry took pleasure in volunteering and working at Harvesters for many years
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sharon of the home; son, Chris M. Shaffer and wife,
Elizabeth of Kansas City, Mo.; daughter, Amanda S. Mykins and husband, Terry of Overland
Park, Kan.; mother, Aletha Shaffer of South Bend; and brother, Dave Shaffer of Osceola.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009 at the Meyers Funeral
Chapel Northland, 401 Main St. Parkville, MO 64152 with Rev. Pat Tobin officiating. A visitation
will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at the Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, Argos. Burial will follow
the visitation at the Richland Center cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Harvesters, 3801 Topping Ave., Kansas City, MO
64129-1744. A live Web cast is available for those unable to attend the service.

Larry L. Hall
BOURBON — Larry L. Hall, 65, of Bourbon, died Monday, Aug. 24 at home.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Krista (Harold) Sutton of Leiters Ford; son, David
(Pia) Hall of Carry, N.C.; stepchildren: Sherry (Roy) Swineheart of Mottville, Mich., William
(Sylvia) Emanuel of Elkhart and Brad (Tori) Blosser of Middlebury; nine grandchildren; one great
grandchild; his mother, Evelyn Hall of Bourbon; and sisters: Jerilyn (Richard) Anders,
Barb (Steve) Roberts, all of Bourbon and Karen (Billy) Dillie of Adrian, Mich.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27 in the Nappanee Missionary Church. Visitation is
from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, Bourbon, and for
one hour before services in the church Thursday. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill cemetery at
Bourbon. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.

Laurie Ann Marks-Zieber
BREMEN – Laurie Ann Marks-Zieber, 40, of Bremen, died Monday, Aug. 24, 2009 at 7:55 a.m. at home.
She is survived by her mother, Marsha L. (Shaffer) Marks of Rochester; her husband, James K.
“Jim” Zieber; and five children. They are; Brittany J. Zieber, Richard D. Zieber, Dakota J. Zieber,
Ronnie W. Zieber and Johnny R. Zieber, all of Bremen.
A sister, Shannon J. (Kevin) Nelson, Rochester; two brothers: Rodney L. Marks and companion
Kathy Willard and Anthoni C. Marks and companion Cherilann Johnson of Plymouth; and motherin-law,
Peg Zieber of Lawrenceburg survive as well.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28 at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N.
Michigan St., Plymouth. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until the time of the services at 11 a.m. Burial
will be in New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth. Memorial gifts may be made to her family.

Jack B. Spencer
PHOENIX, Ariz. — Jack B. Spencer, 85, died Monday, Aug. 24, 2009 in Phoenix, Ariz.
He is survived by his wife, Madge Spencer; sister, Joan Heaton of Tipton; daughter, Barbara
(Paul) Patterson of Hebron; son, John Spencer of Dandridge, Tenn.; five granddaughters; and
three great-granddaughters.
Graveside memorial services will be held Sept.12, at noon in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park,
Granger.
Memorial contributions maybe made to the Parkinson National Parkinson Foundation.

Marjorie R. Crabill Zeller
ROCHESTER — Marjorie R. Crabill Zeller, 89, of Rochester, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009 at
Life Care Center of Rochester.
Marjorie is survived by daughters: Carole (Ray) Hupf of Henderson, Nev., Sharon (Doug)
Harried of Trenton, Ill., Judy (Jerry) Lewis of Rochester, Nancy (Ed) Bowman of Ft. Wayne and
Joyce (Chuck) Skinner of Lynn Haven, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Esther Crabill of Ft. Wayne; sister,
Doris Craigo of Middlebury; brother, Charles (Priscilla) Garner of Syracuse; 16 grandchildren; 28
great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28 in the Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
Interment at Rochester IOOF cemetery Rochester.
Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church and Hope Hospice of Fulton County.
Mrs. Marjorie R. Crabill Zeller, 89, of 1304 Wabash Ave., Rochester, passed away Tuesday at
Life Care Center of Rochester.
Marjorie was born in Fulton County on Feb. 1, 1920, the daughter of the late Virgil LeRoy and
Edith Mae Wood Garner.
Calvin D. Crabill and Marjorie were married April 17, 1938, in Donaldson. He preceded her in
death April 16, 1974. Marjorie married Lester W. Zeller on Aug. 31, 1983, in the Upper Room,
Nashville, Tenn. He preceded her in death March 11, 2007.
She was a homemaker and assisted many people with housekeeping. Marjorie had also been
employed at the County Home and the Geneva Center, both of Rochester. She was an active
member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and assisted with many
other projects. She enjoyed reading and making latch hook pictures. Her collection of cardinals
filled almost every shelf in her home.
Marjorie is survived by five daughters, Carole Hupf and husband Ray, Henderson, Nev., Sharon
Harried and husband Doug, Trenton, Ill., Judy Lewis and husband Jerry, Rochester, Nancy
Bowman and husband Ed, Fort Wayne, and Joyce Skinner and husband Chuck, Lynn Haven,
Fla.; daughter-in-law Esther Crabill, Fort Wayne; sister Doris Craigo, Middlebury; one brother,
Charles Garner and wife Priscilla, Syracuse; 16 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a son, Donald Crabill, in 1999; and
two brothers, Paul Garner and Gerald Garner.
A celebration of the life of Marjorie Crabill Zeller will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Good Family
Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, with the Rev. Will Lawson officiating. Friends may
visit with the family from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service in the
funeral home. Interment will be at Rochester IOOF cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church and Hope Hospice of Fulton County.

Betty Sue Hatfield
ROCHESTER — Betty Sue Hatfield, 64, of Rochester, died at 8:38 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 26,
2009 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
She is survived by her husband Lloyd Hatfield of Rochester and two brothers..
Private family graveside services were held at Citizens cemetery, Rochester.
Good Family Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

George L. Cook
CARENCRO, La. — George L. Cook, 78, of Carencro, La., formerly of Etna Green, died Friday,
Aug. 28, 2009. He is survived by his wife Ola Mae, of Carencro; five children: Lorraine
Amerikanos of Leesburg, Samuel Cook of Tracy, Calif., Andrew (Patricia) Cook of Etna Green,
Amy (Marlin) Heinlein of Plymouth, and Janet (Rich)Walls of Warsaw; 23 grandchildren; many
great-grandchildren; and three siblings: Betty Lane of Turrell, Ark., Joy Chalk of South Haven,
Miss., and Jerry Cook of West Memphis, Ark.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3 at the Deaton-Clemens Funeral
Home, 115 S. Main St. Bourbon.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4 at the Etna Green United Methodist
Church.
Burial will follow at the Etna Green cemetery, Etna Green.

Richard Cox
BREMEN — Richard Cox, 93, of Bremen, died Friday, Aug. 28, 2009.
He is survived by a granddaughter and friends.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, Sept. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Mishler Funeral Home,
Bremen.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, in the Bremen cemetery Chapel.
Burial will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran School, 605 S.
Center St., Bremen, IN 46506.

Mildred A. Smith
VESPER, Wis. — Mildred A. Smith, 69, Vesper, Wisc., died Friday, Aug. 28, 2009 at House of
the Dove, Marshfield. Mildred was born in Dexterville, Wisc. March 31, 1940 to Archie and
Dorothy (Mallory) Topping. She moved to Plymouth and married her former husband Malcolm Young.
Mildred moved to Wisconsin Rapids where she married James Smith June 19, 1995. He
preceded her in death May 5, 2000. Mildred was a seamstress for Hart, Shaffner and Marx,
Rochester, for 20 years. She was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints for 25 years and
a member of the Warsaw Womens Moose Lodge, the Plymouth Eagles Ladies Auxiliary and the
Wisconsin American Legion Auxiliary. Mildred enjoyed crafting, playing bingo and dancing.
She is survived by one daughter, Heather (Robert) Sasaoka of Seattle, Wash.; two sons: Rod
(Teri) Young of Elkhart and Mark Young of Vesper; two grandchildren: Nathan and Jessica
Young; and three great-grandchildren: Nathan Jr., Addison and Deianara.
Services were held at the Chak-Ha-Chee Community Building in Nekoosa Monday, Aug. 31.
Burial was at Dexterville, cemetery.

Mildred M. Fritter
PLYMOUTH — Mildred M. Fritter, 92, of Parkview Street, Plymouth, passed away Saturday,
Aug. 29, 2009, at 11:15 a.m., at the Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, Plymouth.
She was born Aug. 20, 1917, in May, Ind., to Lowell and Pearl (Warrick) Bowles. John E. Fritter
and Mildred Bowles were united in marriage Nov. 17, 1937, in South Bend. John passed away
Oct. 24, 1985.
Mildred was a wife, homemaker, and mother. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and drawing. She
had been a member of the Women of the Moose, Lodge #1355.
Mildred is survived by her daughters: Peggy Amor of Plymouth, Virginia Hummel of Greenwood
and Sue (John) Drews of Plymouth; sons: Leland Fritter of Argos and William Fritter of
Plymouth; 21 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; her brother,
Ivan Bowles of Rushville, Ind, ; and sister, Jane Ashton of Florida.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, John; her daughter, Donna Jacobs; her sons:
John Fritter (as an infant) and Harold Fritter. Also preceding her in death were six brothers and
sisters.
A time of meeting with the family will be Tuesday, Sept. 1, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the VAN GILDER
FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, IN 46563.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the
Rev. Dr. E. Dean Fager officiating. Burial will be in New Oak Hill cemetery, Plymouth.

Lois J. Hawley
BREMEN — Lois J. Hawley, age 86, of 4881 Hawthorne Road, Bremen, passed away at 2:05
p.m., Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at the home of her daughter.
Lois was born July 6, 1923, in Hamlet, to Earl D. and Lucy (Sour) Heiser. Lois married Howard
H. Hawley July 11, 1942. Howard preceded Lois in death July 4, 2006.
Lois is survived by her children: Noel (Phyllis) Hawley of Plymouth, Rebecca (Russell) Young of
Plymouth, Randall (Diane) Hawley of Bremen, and Peggy (Gary) Radford of Stuards Draft, Va.;
nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; her brother, Lloyd (Loretta) Heiser of South Bend;
her sisters: Leota Hamilton of South Carolina and Grace (Paul) Bartholomew of North Carolina;
and her sister-in-law, Eva Jerome of Florida.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
A time of visiting with the Hawley family, will be Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, from 4 to 7 p.m. at
the VAN GILDER FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Madison St. Plymouth, IN, 46563.
Funeral services for Lois will be held Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the VAN GILDER
FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Matt Elliott officiating. Burial will be in New Oak Hill cemetery,
Plymouth.
